MORE Things Helping Walker in Wisconsin

Well, looks like I posted a list a bit too soon. There have been some interesting developments in just the 24 hours since we last visited the race, and these are making Walker's survival even more likely:

1- Major Endorsements
Yesterday, the largest newspaper in the state, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, came out and endorsed Governor Walker in the recall fight, bringing the focus back to square one on recall/not recall. The newspaper did endorse him in 2010, but has grown increasingly critical of his policy positions, and was not expected to even endorse this time. Their argument in backing Walker in the recall will probably evolve into the biggest excuse by liberals and Democrats when (as it looks likely) Walker survives the recall itself. It is a fair point though: you don't recall someone because you hate their policies. We have elections for that. Recalls should be held when a gross violation of the responsibilities of an elected office have occurred. The fight to successfully recall an official is always an uphill battle, regardless what polling might say at its onset. Eventually, people have to decide if the process is being used wisely, regardless the personal popularity of the recall-ee. The MJS endorsement is a rare instance of actual impartiality, asking its readers to look at the recall itself, it's intents and reasoning, as opposed to personal opinion on the Governor. When the straight facts are looked at, the recall looks like an expensive temper tantrum by those out of power.

Also, the Milwaukee Police Association endorsed Governor Walker as well, rebuking Mayor Tom Barrett in the process and setting up an example of the second thing in today's list:

2- Tom Barrett Being Himself

As you may have heard, a ceremony honoring fallen heroes was held Tuesday.
Governor Walker attended. The mayor did not. Why? He was busy sucking up to unions for a last minute cash flush. What makes this worse was his on-the-record explanation for where he had been, obviously in conflict with the truth:

Newsradio 620 WTMJ's John Mercure caught up with the Mayor Thursday and asked where he had been during the events. The Mayor and his staff couldn't remember where they were at the time. "I was working. I wasÂ… I'll have to get back to you about the specifics," the mayor told John.
The Mayor's campaign never got back with specifics. But we've now learned about his appearance in Oshkosh.

Beyond the terrible optics this generates, it destroys a tired lefty meme about Walker. "He's never in the state, always campaigning for himself elsewhere." Well, Mayor Barrett one-upped the Governor here by passing an expected showing at an honorable ceremony in a desperate bid for cash.

Walker's defenders can kick off this news week with another credible attack on the mayor, putting Barrett yet again on the defensive when he desperately needs the Governor to be on the hot seat.

Don't let the growing sense of Walker surviving make you complacent. He still needs help, he still needs your financial support, and he still needs your vote. The media is starting to spin the shift and the presumed result already to minimize any further electoral implications of a Walker victory. The larger his win, the harder it will be for most to believe the Blue Wall isn't cracking.

7 There never should have been a recall. The petition was mostly forged signatures of fictitious people, most of them obvious. The crooks who were responsible for certifying it just passed it off w/o checking.

And I still say the legislature needs to fix this shit. Think of the money wasted on this.

9 I'm still looking for any input on whether freedomworks is a good PAC. I would prefer to go through a PAC vs supporting Cruz, Walker, various other conservatives directly, I cringe when I get mailings from out of state politicians that I donated to in 2010.

That the recall effort by the unions, the progs, etc., appears to be a massive fail is all just too damn delicious.

13 I actually see Walker winning by 10 points, but at the same time, I think it's mainly because Wisconsin voters think the recall process was an absurd waste of time and money from sore losers. I don't think it's because Wisconsin is suddenly a really conservative state.

I do believe though, that the Unions temper tantrum since 2010 has pushed the state into a "redder shade of purple". If Romney makes the investment, he definitely can win in Wisconsin, especially seeing how Bush in both 2000 and 2004 came within the margin of fraud.

My father drove us through the outskirts of Chicago during the worst of the 68 convention. The radio was unnerving. There were bans on filling anything but car gas tanks with gas. Everyone was saying scared and saying WTF?

The Chicago police definitely let go and raised some hell one night. They looked like Cossacks on a tear from the news footage I watched.

It was a shrewd move for Gov Walker to specifically exempt law enforcement from the organized labor reforms he instituted.

By doing so, he divided commies on the left, and made it much harder for union apologists to pull what they did in Ohio, namely scaring the heck out of mom/pop voters by telling them the cops wouldn't be there to protect them.

Walker wisely decided this is a problem that took years to create, and would not be undone in one year or one election. Remember, Wisconsin was the first state to allow government workers to unionize, so Walker is reforming that bad decision in stages.

Go Walker!!

O/T. I am finding it interesting how little MSM news coverage there is of what is happening in Chicago so far. I guess the strategy to help Rahm and Obama is to just ignore the huge numbers of protesters creating chaos in the city? Thank goodness Mark Zuckerberg changed his status to "married" so the MSM has something else to talk about.

I mean, I guess if the protesters are ignored that kind of takes the teeth out of what they are doing, since I assume they are doing it for attention. But, it seems like, after reading the Second City Cop website from willow's comment, that there has been a bunch of stuff happening that would ordinarily prompt wall to wall MSM media coverage.

Disagree. The MJS sees the writing on the wall that Walker et al. will survive the recall and are trying to buy some credibility for the next round. The MJS still has issues with Walker's policies and implementation, right? So when the "right" time comes, they'll un-endorse him because, well, they're Liberals. On this they offer tepid support for procedural reasons, not intellectual or policy ones. They still dislike Walker's policies, and that's the real meat of an election.

The MJS is just maneuvering into a political space to set themselves up to bash Walker in a year or two and hoping to buy some favor with independents by saying to them, "Well, we didn't always hate Walker as others have charged. Remember when we supported him during the recall? So, you can trust our voice now when we say 'Walker sucks!'" The paper is trying to turn a devastating loss into just a terrible one where they still have the opportunity to retrieve some of the arms and ammo from the battlefield for the next battle.

63 It Romney wants to win in November he should just run against Kalifronia and show up Wisconsin as the alternative. Kalifornia is being run into oblivion by the democrats, as was Wisconsin until Walker showed up. He balanced the budget without raising taxes by reining in obscene public union power. It has been a win win situation at every level my Walker. What courage he showed. Romney should hold him up as a banner and compare him with gov. Moonbeam.
