— Jack M. A little insight into the creative process here: think of the following as liner notes from me to you. (I'm actually not old enough to remember liner notes, but Dave in Texas tells me they used to appear on the inside of sleeves containing black vinyl discs called "records." I'm thinking he's bull-shitting me tho.)
I originally wrote: "Music to Trick or Treat By." But that damn preposition bugged me. Knowing that y'all expect full value for your money on posts here at the HQ, I then switched it to "Music By Which To Trick or Treat."
Then I realized I could substitute "WITCH". It's that kind of value that I bring to this blog, and it's why Ace still hasn't eliminated my privileges despite my not having contributed a meaningful post in 7 and a half years. Or ever.
Anyway, now that we've dispensed with the studio chatter, let's check out some Halloween-appropriate tunes that y'all should listen to as you ensure that the neighborhood children get their fair share of candy, and that they remain safely outside of 500 feet from Greg's house.
Your "Trick or Tracks"/"Tracks or Treats" (see...more of that cleverly phrased added value thing) await you beneath the jump.
1. I Put A Spell on You (Creedence Clearwater Revival).- This cover of a Screaming Jay song kicks all kinds of ass. And Clearwater is a city in Florida. So it's Halloweenish and Topical.
2. Rhiannon (Fleetwood Mac)- "This is a song about an old, Welsh witch." Or, as you know her, LauraW.
3. Season of the Witch (Donovan)- This 1966 tune goes out to all y'all who like your Halloween with a little proto-psychedlia. And who doesn't? Besides, Dave told me if I didn't put a track down from his 40's, he'd be pretty pissed.
4. Witch's Promise. (Jethro Tull)- Now, you might wonder why I'm putting this here. Then again you might not. This is, really, my long distance dedication to Greg/Gerg/Greggums. And not because of the "Lend me Your Ear while I call you a fool" opening line. But because I hear he's big on one-legged flute solos. Whatever that means.
Added bonus/horror: I think the Tops of The Pops molester guy makes an appearance in this vid. Gee..whoda thunk it?
5. Any song by the London boys.
No, I wouldn't do that to you. I promise.
How about this instead:
6: Psycho Killer (Talking Heads)- When I get around to writing/shooting my "Jason Vs. Muppets: Grand Prize Manhattan" slasher flick, this will be in the soundtrack.
7. Werewolves of London (Warren Zevon)- Why not? I would put Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band in here too, but I'm afraid if I did it would kill off the thread faster than I do already.
Have fun. Enjoy Trick or Treating. And if you show up at Ace's place and he asks you to grab your candy from a bowl mysteriously elevated around his waist. Run. Run like the wind.
Because Ace has notoriously bad treats. It's like UNICEF pennies and dried apple snacks and toothbrushes and stuff. That's all I meant. If you have your own favorite Halloween kinda songs, dump them in the comments.

I almost put Witchy Woman on the list. But then I thought about that Seinfeld episode.
And that blew the deal.

Come on, it's only been a couple of years since the last of your epic poetry. Although, one might balk at describing some of those poems as "value" or "meaningful" as opposed to "Exhibit 5B on the restraining order application".

To be fair, I did do an epic poem on my twitter feed about 3 months ago. See, what you missed out on by not following me?
Why did I just lose 75 followers???

Ain't Superstitious, Black Cat Crossed My Trail - Jeff Beck
Solid, #50. I always kick myself on these things, because I always forget about Jeff Beck. I don't know why, b/c I like him, but I do.

I can list everything jwb7605...I have to worry about load times for all the videos (maybe I should call Joe Biden?) and ensuring that it doesnt become a movie review.
Good song choice, tho.
