My Brush With Greatness
— Russ from Winterset

Last Spring, I was in Pella, Iowa at the premiere of Sarah Palin's movie. I didn't get tickets to the movie because it was going to start promptly at 5pm, and I had enough job responsibilities that I wasn't going to be able to scoot out early. So I just went over for the after-movie festivities.

So I'm in the crowd, when all of a sudden I see "that haircut" along with the carefully cultivated five o'clock shadow that were hallmarks of the Late Great Andrew Breitbart. He was just circulating through the crowd who were waiting for Sarah & Todd to leave the theatre. I managed to work my way over to him and introduce myself. When I told him that I'm a minor-league coblogger at the AoSHQ, he replied with something like "Hey I love that site! I don't know if I've read your work or not: Do you COMMENT there too?"

Dude was in on the joke, and he said it with that Breitbart smile on his face.

I only met the man the one time, but I wanted to share the story today because I think he really liked the treacherous hive of scum & villiany that comments here at Ace's. He wasn't blowing smoke up your asses, I honestly think that he liked you. And that's a good way to remember the man.

Godspeed, Mr. Breitbart.

2 Great story, Russ! I never had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Breitbart, did not know him personally, but for some reason the news of his death has really affected me. Especially after reading all of the vitriol and hate spewed out by the left about him. I hope his family knows that for every hateful and spiteful thing said about him by the left, there were 100 good things and remembrances said about him by his friends and fans.

6 I commented last night that Ace should put that pic of Breitbart pointing at the comment field of AoSHQ up top as a permanent tribute to him.  I think a lot of would agree.

I read the story of his last hour: drinking at a bar, talking with strangers, having a good time.  He went out like a true Moron.

I'm speechless.  Couldn't even comment yesterday.

Michael Savage broached the subject last night of a government hit.  Not sure if that was rash or brave?  The thought has crossed my mind.

Every first comment should read, "Hi Andrew!".   And this pic should be anchored somewhere on the home page forever.

It's the one where some Occu-tards were talking about crashing an event and lighting into Breitbart saying that although Romney has Secret Service protection, he wouldn't.  It was a thinly veiled threat against Breitbart's safety and he apparently loved it.

We may be vulgarians, but we are high class, highly educated vulgarians.

If you get the Morning Jolt, Geraghty has a fantastic piece on Andrew's death and his response to the Left's reaction thereto.  Honestly, I think that some people need to be reminded viscerally as to why you at least pretend to have common courtesy.   The world would be a much better place if my one free beat down a month rule was implemented.

I was never lucky enough to meet Andrew Breitbart, but his death has hit me harder than anything outside a family loss or 9/11.  I spent yesterday intermittently excusing myself from my desk so I could go sob in the company restroom.

His death has me searching for a new, more effective path.  As it stands, I've made a life of either letting libtards spew and just walking away because they're just not worth the effort OR leaving them on the floor bleeding if they cross the line.  Engaging them in any way even remotely close to what AB would do just never seemed like something I could do.  I resolve to do better.  For Andrew.

Posted by: Jaws at March 02, 2012 05:28 AM (4I3Uo)

42 I'd like to make a t-shirt modelled after the stupid leftist Che t-shirts, but with a line drawing of AB instead of the      Argentinian    psychopath       .  And on the back it would say, "Ours was a REAL     freedom     fighter, and he didn't need a body count    to do it."

Posted by: Andy at March 02, 2012 05:29 AM (VqHC3)

44 Andrew Breitbart was pretty much living the AoSHQ lifestyle.  Smart, funny, caustic and with constant contempt for the media and leftist hustlers.  He reveled that he could make a leftist troll squeal in three words or less.

I'm probably most saddened that there isn't anyone else currently doing what he had been doing in a public and high profile way.  Because we need more of it.

RIP

Will respect the wishes of the family as far as the funeral goes, but my fantasy is the biggest conservative blowout you could imagine.  Kind of like a who's who of conservative bloggers, et al to give the final BIG FINGER to the left in Andrew's honor.  A national event, if you will.  Of course, the occupiers would have to be outside and everybody would take turns to yell at them with typical Breitbart gusto.

60 I listened to Levin last night, and along with his tribute to Andrew he played the last AB interview from last April.  At the end of the interview, Andrew mentioned that he intended to make the big catch-all website and said "that's for 2012."  If I recall correctly, that site was supposed to roll out yesterday, right?

Just freaking eerie.

Posted by: logprof at March 02, 2012 05:41 AM (ykSKg)

61 I'm watching the Redeye tribute. It's really helping me. Kaus's article and then Jonah's almost did me in, so I was kind of dreading watching it. But i've found it helpful.

I called my father when I heard about Andrew passing. He was vaguely familiar with Andrew, so I had to fill him in a bit. I was so close to sobbing.

My father had a close brush with death not once, but twice, and I kind of wrote it off until his brother died. Then I was sitting with my cousins playing cards as they were just fighting off tears and I realized that I was *THAT* close to it being me.

I call my father almost everyday, and at least once a week I tell him that I love him, and I also tell him why. Because you never fucking know what thier last day will be. It spooked me when he started doing it to me, but I realized that I had told him that you never fucking know if some random car crash happens and all of a sudden, you realize you haven't told someone you loved them in a while, or more importantly WHY. In an instant, that opportunity is gone, and there's just that big hole in your heart. Forever.

He's 20 years older than Andrew. God bless Andrew and his Family. I hope we can set up a Fund of some kind. I'd rather give to that, than buy a stack of books.

92 If I remember correctly the right folded like a cheap whore over the Shirley Sherrod thing.

We (they?) did.  It made me angry, because, once again, we (collectively) bought into their premise- that the tape was about Shirley Sherrod.  What the right should have been proclaiming- long and loud- was that Sherrod's firing was both uncalled-for and irrelevant to the issue, and the issue was the rampant racism at the NAACP.

The terrible thing about the Sherrod tape was not her story- it was the crowd's reaction to it.

That bugs me too- the "Sherrod Tape" was never about Sherrod- it was about the NAACP audience's RACIST REACTION to what Sherrod said.  The whole point was to contrast the demonstrable evidence of racism at the NAACP against the total lack of evidence of racism in the Tea Party.

O'Reilly got ahold of it, misunderstood it (shocker I know) and made it about Sherrod.

It was downhill from there.

101 One of the best ways to honor Breitbart would be for a Right leaning news service or blogger or both to do a complete expose' of just how the Sherrod Case was a window into how SCOAMF's unconstitutional regime has used an already wasteful government agency to act as a facilitator of slavery reparations to a bunch of fake farmers with taxpayer dollars.

A lot of the real import of the hijacking of government payments was lost in the wake of the tit for tat racism dance.

Just be mindful not to make a direct    carbon copy     from a copyrighted image.  The public figure might not have a claim to it, but the photographer who took it does.  That's where Fairey ran into trouble.    You could probably get by on a one-time thing    like a quilt,    but if you were planning to mass market the item in question     (like Fairey and his stupid HOPE poster)      , you'd need permissions and image releases.

Brietbart the Braveheart...I see him as William Wallace, who said:

"Every man dies. Not every man really lives."
From everything I read about Andrew, he lived at full throttle all of the time.

While I am sure Andrew would cackle at the comparison to William Wallace, I honestly see Brietbart as a leader of our cause to defeat Obama in November. His battle cry, from the last CPAC, was to unite in battle:

"We are in the fight of our lives." Never forget.

I took 4 years of French in high school and even though it wasn't boring I didn't devote a lot of effort to it.  Then a couple decades later I went to France and was surprised how much of it came back; not so much that I could keep up with rapidfire conversations in Paris but enough to get around pretty easily and have people compliment me for being reasonably proficient.

129 @Michael Savage broached the subject last night of a government hit. Not sure if that was rash or brave? The thought hascrossed my mind. ------ The timing bothered me at first, but you know the fact is that when something like this happens our minds look for connections. It's a natural phenomenon. But Breitbart was so active irritating them all the time, that any day that he would die under any circumstances would seem suspicious. It really seems that the simplest explanation right now is that it was natural causes. I'm sure that if the family is not satisfied with the autopsy they can have a second one performed and/or hire investigators. For now I think the best way to honor Breitbart is to pray for his family and honor his memory with stories like Russ' and by continuing his fight.

From a commentor at flopping aces:

*

A friend of Andrew called him and said that ACORN was protesting at a local bank. Andrew told his friend “Meet me there.” Andrew parked his car and went to the back of it, lifting the trunk lid. He took out a pair of roller blades, and put them on. When he friend asked what he was doing, Andrew said “Going into the crowd.” Andrew, on roller blades, video camera in hand, went among the ACORN protesters, filming them as he asked them why they were there. No one seemed to know. They just knew that ACORN HQs had called them and told them to protest the bank. They also did not seem to know who he was.

Andrew did not like that the ACORN protesters were preventing a bank from doing business so, in true Breitbart style, he started telling the protesters that the protest was over and they were all supposed to meet up at a local DennyÂ’s just a few blocks away. Andrew skated among the protesters, telling one by one, to meet up at DennyÂ’s.

Andrew was laughing as only he could do. He told me that within 20 minutes, the protesters had dispersed and had descended on the local DennyÂ’sÂ…Â…Â…Â…..so he went home. One man, on roller blades, ended a protest against a national bank.

159 Alright, I'm out for at least the rest of the morning (Yay Friday meetings!), and possibly for the day.

If so, let me take this chance to say having the HQ the last couple of days has been incredibly helpful to me.  For all you're imaginary midgets who live in my computer, I've come to view you as friends.

Also: Barack Obama is a stuttering clusterf*ck of a miserable tyrant.

And I'll be on Vacation in the Caribbean next week, so someone will need to take up my slack on posting that in every thread.  It needs to be said.

Jebus, Ted. What the fuck is wrong witcha? Cursing is so......so........liberating! I fucking curse a lot. Have you ever comtemplated the versitility of the standard boilerplate cuss words of "fuck" and "shit"? Amazing! I learn so much here at AoSHQ. I got my primary blackgart training in the oil patch, but here at AoSHQ I'm working on my Ph.D. My time spent here is so worthwhile as I am constantly striving to improve myself. The instructors here are awesome!

Seriously, I would have loved to have met Breitbart in person and as many events as he came to, I figured to have a pretty good chance. Regretably, he did not live long enough. The world is significantly darker with his passing.

Just wanted to pass along my latest blog post - I went extra heavy on the snark, just like Mr. Breitbart would have wanted it:

Pay to Play (or, No, I Don't Want to Subsidize Your Sex Life) http://wp.me/p1ipEz-1kp

You want to be able to have consequence-free sex, and you want ME to pay for it with higher insurance rates? OK, fine – I’ll make you a deal:

IÂ’ll pay for your drunken weekends with whichever guy straps on the beer goggles at last call, but in return I expect you to keep your piehole shut when you have to pay higher insurance rates for MY lifestyle choices.
And boy, howdy, am I going to stick it to you BUT GOOD.

You just THINK youÂ’ve been screwed by all of those Frat Boys, but it is nothing compared to the rogering you are going to get from me.

I am going to start living a life of indulgent luxury – I’m going to plop my fat ass on my couch and watch television all day long – no exercise for me. I’m going to eat the fattiest, greasiest foods that I can find – there isn’t going to be a vegetable in sight. I don’t drink, smoke, or use drugs, but I am thinking about taking them up – just so I can run up your insurance premiums.

You see Ms. Fluke, you have as much as admitted that no one has to take personal responsibility for their actions. No, you sat in front of a national audience and said that each of us has to pay for whatever other people in the rest of the country decide they want to do.

And if you donÂ’t want them telling you what you can or cannot do with YOUR body, then you sure as heck donÂ’t get to tell them what they can or cannot do with theirs.

There's more (with pictures!) - I hope you enjoy it!

188 WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama warned that he is not bluffing about attacking Iran if it builds a nuclear weapon, but in an interview published Friday, Obama also warned U.S. ally Israel that a premature attack on Iran would do more harm than good.

His comments appeared aimed more at Israel and its supporters in the United States than at Iran.

"I think that the Israeli government recognizes that, as president of the United States, I don't bluff," he said in the interview. "

Who needs enemies when this prick is in the White House. If I were Israel or Iran, I'd say (publicly) fuck you pussy, what are you going to do about it and watch Barry (wetting his pants) run to the UN and tell on them

Pete had an unnaturally small heart which went undiagnosed because he was afraid of doctors all his life; everybody around him was shocked by it.  Some outfit did a documentary on him that CBS showed a few times around final four weekend; although strangely enough on the local CBS outlet it was the first thing aired after 9/11 when they finally went back to regular programming.
