Nancy Pelosi: Your Darned Tootin' I'm Gonna Be Minority Leader Again!
— Ace

How wonderful for us all.

Nancy Pelosi announced Wednesday that she plans to seek another term as House Democratic leader, though Democrats were unable to win back control of the chamber.

...

"We don't have the gavel," she said. "We have something more important, we have unity."

She later said: "I wouldn't think of walking away."

There was a minor controversy earlier when someone dared to ask Pelosi, 143, if she was too old to connect with people who are younger than 100.

A lot of whining about "Age discrimination!" and some boos follow.

I don't really have a point besides my "143" joke.

64 This is great.

Under Pelosi's leadership, the liberals first lost the House and then on their second round, were unable to take it back. We should be rejoicing that they are tripling down on stupidity, and reinforcing failure.

Meanwhile, the GOP needs to take the opposite tack, and needs to start TO BRUTALLY PURGE PROVEN LOSERS.

The entire NRSC should be sacked for a start, after their recent debacle.

Replace them with people who actually won Senatorial elections for the GOP last cycle. I'm thinking of Dean Heller's campaign manager, for one.

97 Kill me now.  From Newsbusters, Barry has a fawning fan girl from the Chicago Tribune after the presser:

Barack Obama on Wednesday submitted to his first press conference since March. Some of the White House journalists didn't seem to hold the long wait against him, however. One reporter, Christie Parsons of the Chicago Tribune, turned into a gushing fan, congratulating the President on his reelection. Parsons cooed to Obama that she had "never" seen him "lose."  Other questioners, including CNN's Jessica Yellin, exhorted the President to not "cave" when dealing with Republicans.

After calling on Parsons, Obama added, "Christi was there when I was running for state senate." With a big grin on her face, the Tribune reporter extolled, "That's right. I was!...I have never seen you lose." Yellin pushed the President from the left, demanding, "...Two years ago you said that you wouldn't extend the Bush era tax cuts, but at the end of the day, you did. So, respectfully sir, why should the American people and the Republicans believe that you won't cave again this time?"

Mitt's people are still running the show here in MA to a great degree. They have been pushing candidates that are left of center. All pro-choice. The state committee is going to vote on whether to take abortion out of the MA GOP platform. Dumb shits, all of them. Took a look at some industrial property for my nonprofit project. Everybody has their hand out. I'm going to keep looking. Another plan to make money off the system and get some soldiers out into the field when it counts: start a bunch of PACs (since one PAC can't do shit to find candidates) and get a phone room going, lobby superpacs, and so forth. Seek national money. Find a stable of candidates to run who you can fund to the tune of 80-100k with your PACs. Win some fucking races, and pay yourself to do it. This was the plan I had a few months ago when I started looking into a long term solution to 1) elect good candidates and 2) make money. There are still issues here: where the hell do you find candidates and money? The good part about this plan is that I know, logistically, all the steps necessary to do it, and it's free to set up. The bad part is, WHERE THE HELL ARE THE CANDIDATES?

It may be worth debating, but it's hardly surprising or newsworthy.

The Republicans kept the House; it would have been newsworthy if there had been any significant challenge to him.

The reason Pelosi remaining as Minority Leader is newsworthy is that, normally she would have been out of the House entirely after losing the House in 2010, that she not only wasn't out then, but then didn't manage to lead her caucus back into the majority- and still kept her position- is unusual.

"Or do we go after the Reagan Democrats?'

________________________________________

"Reagan Democrats" were largely blue collar factory workers who belonged to unions and their wives, who often had part-time jobs or hourly wage jobs.  "Reagan Democrats" were also people in the service sector.

Witness Ohio's union vote this election. Witness the service sector union vote in Nevada.  The Dems machine has been working hard for years on the remnants of the Reagan Democrats.  They now have them.

Reagan also appealed to a religious segment of America that has experienced a preciptious fall the last 3 decades.  (This is one reason, just one, that the GOP's dreams of getting the Hispanic vote--unless they nominate an Hispanic--is a pipe dream.  Hispanics under 40 are not religious as many pundits would have you believe.  They are culturally Catholic, and not much else.)

I think we need to understand that Reagan's demographic base is long, long gone.  Using the term is kind of like saying  a "JFK Democrat"--JFK Dems don't exist any more.

Immigration law enforcement, a responsible budget, raising taxes, and you could already argue he signed on to gutting the military with the sequestration bullshit. 200 195 Hollopoint,

I agree HP you see me being able to pull it off?

To be honest?  Probably not.

The organizational structure of the Dems is very hierarchical and cliquey; it takes a long time to get anywhere in their ranks.  Grassroots they ain't.  They're not like the GOP where you need do little more than show up on a regular basis.

The Paultards wouldn't have been able to pull their shenanigans with the Dems like they did with the GOP in Nevada (for example).

201 best case we could primary the commie bastards out of power and if we had selfless people excpose their bribery attempts by trumka...

I don't know what the answer is but I know there needs to be a seismic shift in America as rendered.

The repubs have been the repository of the conservative movement for years without any move to a more conservative way of governing.  They  are, since the  late 1980's the moderate to center left party.  The leadership keeps being elected by the same states that  give us hard-left dems also.

In other words, the dems infiltrated the repub party.  Let's start returning the favor.

202 This is a repost of mine from another thread just wanted to make sure it didn't get lost in the mix for selfish reason I will admit I have been lurking on this site for quite a while and just recently began posting to share my views with other like minded individuals. As a result I do not have the relationships which others enjoy here but still feel a connection based on the postings I have witnessed. I post this in response to the "Let It Burn" postings (of which I have contributed). I will be the first to admit that I did not serve my country, and am ashamed of that. I do however hold the utmost respect for those who have and are serving and Thank You to All the Men and Women Who Defend Our Freedoms and GOD Bless Those Who Died Trying. My opinion of L.I.B. is not irrational and is not based on a lack of love for this great country, rather quite the opposite. I dearly love America, but look around and see those who would destroy it. I look at the petition for secession on the Government website and think "There is no way I am submitting my name" is this a stance where I am fearful of our government? I would say yes. We are now openly putting people in jail for expressing their opinions, sacrificing our citizens and patriots in order to appease those who hate us, aggressively pushing infanticide via abortions, religious persecution and attacking the very founding principles upon which (I assume) most of us grew up cherishing. I view the "L.I.B." stance as a opportunity to save these principles. As a nation we have spilled too much treasure to protect those principles we now look to save. It will be painful either way we choose to go but rather than acquiesce to the aberration we are faced with I would prefer to stand for something, protect my family and friends and a way of life which has given so much to so many.

I'm extremely saddened and disappointed to see no mention of Min. Leader Pelosi's REAL name: -  Granny Rictus McBotox-Implants.

This is why we lose elections, because we are disconnected from our glorious past.

204 So voting for a Republican majority in the House helps me how? Please explain that to me....really I want to know how without hearing how much I should hate Democrats, because frankly as much as you hate them I hate them worse.

Just so I have this straight- you find it necessary to ask why it's beneficial to have a Republican majority in the House instead of giving Obama a blank check?

Soona @ 200:

"....plan B is to infiltrate and wreck the democrats"

We can cleverly, and slyly convince them to abandon our ally's, embrace our enemies, double...no, TRIPLE our national debt, while printing money non-stop, lean further left than Stalin, destroy our military, gut our domestic energy production, ignite the flames of classist warfare in this country, and divide our nation along racial lines. Yeah!

When does all this start actually....you know....wrecking the democrats?

206 Wonderful, unify your minority and you still have nothing but a unified minority. . . . good luck with that Nancy.

207 Hell Pelosi looked at her broom---it had 758,000 miles on it, but she figures shucks--it's good for at least another 150,000 miles or so.  Why not saddle up and keep on riding?

210 218 SW,

I do not think all democrats are insane.

We face three democrat parties.

1) the pro academic zealot wing-the most left and craziest.

2) the union wing-greedy as hell and willing to engage in economic warfare but oddly worried about personal liberty in the 1st and 2d amendment

3) the race hustlers.

There are schisms there to be exploited but we'll never do it from outside.

Posted by: Hollowpoint at November 14, 2012 04:54 PM (SY2Kh) Uh if they legalize 20 million illegals and they or their children can vote, my vote will never matter again in my lifetime. So yeah I'd like a positive reason other than "well the republicans care about you more than the other guy." I'm just one guy btw and I'm not going to continuously shit on threads about it either.

#87 - NRSC yes.  Several easily winnable senate seats were lost this time.  I'd give Rince another shot - he seems to have made good strides fixing up the RNC.  Mitt's loss may have been due more to O's uniqueness and some errors by Mitt

#115 - MA GOP didn't vote for Mitt or Brown?  That is ridiculous and even if thought a vote for Mitt didn't matter in MA a vote for Brown did

216 "....someone dared ask Pelosi, 143, if she could connect with voters younger than, say, 100...."

OMG, I am as liberal as they come, but I read your blog because I like it that you usually play it straight, no spin.  But seriously, this comment made me LAUGH OUT LOUD for a good couple of moments.  :-D

217 Yikes! That is some fearsome concentration of plastic. I thought when I saw this on Hannity that it was from some photoshopped Real Housewives bit on The Tonight Show.
