NBC Attacks Romney As Racist, In Prime Time
— Ace

This is their Saturday Night Live on Thursday night show. Which has always been a cost-saving move, putting on a cheap segment from a show they're already producing instead of buying another show (which would probably fail, like most of their shows fail).

At Newsbusters.

Boycotts never work but I really, really want to get a national boycott of NBC going. Just take them out. They're barely hanging in as a network anyway. They are ready to fall, ready to become some kind of half-network like the CW.

Just to show how obnoxious they are, last night a segment on "Rock Center" (Brian Williams' bonus-round bias show) took on "the partisan press," by which they mean FoxNews. They did throw in one CYA clip, very short, of Ed Schultz, to pretend they were offering a nonpartisan view of "the partisan press," but the overwhelming emphasis was on FoxNews. And definitely not their little demented liberal sister channel MSNBC, where "real journalists" from NBC routinely appear in order to suggest that MSNBC is a real news channel.

They are so close to bankruptcy. And they're so obnoxious. It's not that the rest of these channels aren't biased. It's just at some point we need to make an example of one of them -- I think the old expression goes pour encourager les autres (You have to hang an admiral once in a while to encourage the others).

And I don't mean boycott their news. I mean boycott everything here. The whole thing. All of it. Put it under. Bankrupt it.

More than any other channel, NBC has cast itself as the Urban Liberal Network. And they are in the ratings cellar, and have been for years.

Conservatives who like The Office are helping keep this outfit afloat. Time to pull the plug and let it all go down the drain.

40 NBC is an LLC owned by Comcast, 51% and GE 49%. There is a provision that Comcast can buy out GE or GE can force Comcast to buy them out within 7 years.

56 If you're in a city, at least -try- the "Over the Air" version. If you watch via the cable box, Comcast (or whomever) gets feedback on which channels are watched. If you're using an antenna, they do not.

And when I cancelled Comcast (and the three times they've called to see if I'd like to hook it back up), I had a simple request that would get me back as a customer. "Yes, I want BBC America and the Sci Fi channel and -nothing-else- for $10/month. Can you do it? Oh? $79/month with how many useless channels?"

There are actually a couple more channels I'd take, but lumping in the 'wall of crap' needs to stop before I'll care.

Sun Tzu replied “Sir, you may.”

The King of Wu asked “Can the test be applied to women?”

Sun Tzu replied that it could, so arrangements were made to bring 180 beautiful women from the palace. Sun Tzu divided them into two troops with one of the KingÂ’s favourite concubines at the head of each

[snip]

He then repeated the explanations several times. This time he ordered the drums to signal ‘left turn,’ and again the women burst into laughter.

[snip]

He immediately had the two concubines beheaded as an example and appointed the two next in line as the new leaders.

Now the drums were sounded and the drill began. The women performed all the maneuvers exactly as commanded. They drilled perfectly in precision and did not utter a single sound."

58 wheatie, 12:46 - "What NBC/MSNBC is doing....is campaigning for Barky." Which reminds me: I was listening to NPR this morning, just to piss myself off, and they were covering the story of relative fundraising: how the Obama campaign seems to have outraised the Romney campaign. They cut to one of their analysts, who opens by saying that fundraising only tells part of the story, because the press puts out a lot of their message for them for free. And I'm thinking, Aha! We admit this. It's just a short step from there to, "but we do our best to rebut Romney's statements and defend Obama's."

Tell them you are not going to watch NBC as long as they are pushing such left-wing political stuff or however you want to phrase it.

Tell them if they are short of programming, they can air local high school games or I Love Lucy reruns to fill in.

And ask them if they are prepared for a lawsuit for illegal donations in kind to the Obama campaign.

Heh.

On some things, no credible competitors, and some things are simply transparent to you. You really think GE makes all of its money in consumer goods? Are you going to stop buying electricity generated by GE Reactors and Turbines and instrumented with GE switchgear and metering? Stop using hospitals that have GE medical devices? Stop buying consumer products that use GE programmable controls hardware in the manufacturing process? Stop buying goods shipped with GE train engines? Stop flying on planes powered by GE turbines? Yes, our great Media industry, all American Jobs, are in Jeopardy... and may very well go bankrupt, so today I am announcing we will be using TARP funds to bailout NBC, and other failing Media outlets.

This will save 10's of thousands of jobs, as well as create a fair counterbalance to Republican owned corporations, such as Fox, who create such dissension in our country.

Tim Geithner will use TARP funds to buy stock in NBC, and we will help guide this great corporation back to fiscal stability, just like we saved GM...

Thank you... I'll be taking no question today...

129 Boycotts rarely work because if a company is successful enough the injury has to be more obvious than the utility of their products/service.

141 The SNL segment is obvious, over the top, satire of the type they've been doing for 35 years and is hardly worth getting your panties all bunched up. Calling for a boycott usually makes the person doing it look like a humorless turd and has the added bonus of being totally ineffective. However, if one were looking to make the election season influx of Hot Air retards feel right at home, this could be a good move.

143 The weird thing about NBC is that the more they have hemmorraghed viewers, the more extreme they have become, as if the answer to Fox was not to become more balanced, but to become even more shrill in their bias. Corporate heads have a duty to try to maximize profit. One would think it would have occurred to someone that drilling into the Fox honeypot by moving slightly to their left would increase profits.

The proper response to Fox should have been to take their viewers, not play into the reasons why Fox is successful.

It's like Proctor and Gamble. Their fingers are in so many farking pies you can't even keep track. The detergent/soap/whitener/bleach/whatever aisle at the store would be 99% accurate with a sign "Proctor and Gamble Aisle."

And that's just the products where P&G shows up on there. They sell raw chemicals to -all- the boutiques for their house-brand shampoos, etc.

Just to highlight GE:
I don't think you could reliably manage to actually -fly- if you were on a 100% boycott of GE. There's Rolls Royce engines, Pratt and Whitney, and GE. And you won't know which are in your plane without asking enough questions to get your name Red Flagged. Probably with Stars.

151 turnabout is fair play. CrossingBroad.com reported on 15 Aug that Ed Rendell (D-PA) was implicated, in a child sex ring. It appears one of his big donors named Savitz, who died of AIDS years ago, ran pedo ring that Jerry Sandusky was part of. The FBI is currently investigating it. One of the rent boys grew up and became a cop and has been talking to whoever will listen. His name is Bucceroni. The story reads, in part Bucceroni thinks that Lynne Abraham - yes, the same Philadelphia DA who wrote that commentary about Savitz - prematurely and quietly concluded her independent investigation of Second Mile because it might, yep, turn up information about Savitz and the people he was connected to... including Ed Rendell, who is the main target of BucceroniÂ’s anger. Bucceroni claims that Savitz was buddies with Rendell and donated a lot of money to his 1977 District Attorney campaign. He also makes the huge leap to call Rendell an enabler, who knew full-well what Savitz was up to, citing the fact that his victims were often around Rendell and helped out with his campaign, but did nothing because Savitz was a political backer. ThatÂ’s a massive leap, as itÂ’s assumed (and noted by Bucceroni) that Savitz had contact with many powerful men, who may only be guilty by association. But, Bucceroni points out that, to this day, Rendell is still friends with members of the Savitz family, including SavitzÂ’s brother, Samuel, and his wife, Selma. Indeed, in 2009, Rendell, as Governor, honored Selma for her volunteer work. If Romney can be called a racist based on nothing, than Ed Rendell supported a pedophile ring by inference.

169 It also seems like NBC's unethical, unprofessional dive to the left started about the same time they were bought by General Electric. They started reflecting the close-minded politics of asshole Jeff Immelt. So their out-and-proud politics may not have been solely in reaction to Fox. It could have been part of the corporate culture created by Immelt.

I don't feel as if I'm watching High School Girls' Clique; and even if they are liberal, I don't feel as if they are insulting my intelligence nearly as much as Today or GMA. Also, not nearly as hyper as Fox and Friends. Their morning "eye opener in 90 seconds" is what got me, if for no other reason than to show me the media's focus for the day.

It's your house. Tell Gabby McBungalowBlaster's boss you need quiet to work and therefore Moutho should shut the f up and paint, like he's being paid for. If you put up with it you're just going to get more of it. If you're worried you won't get a good job, painting is pretty easy to inspect; if it doesn't look good, it isn't a good job. If it looks good, it usually is a good job. Just don't pay the contractor until you're satisfied; if you want to crack hard, let him know his mouthy employee is why you're being picky.

232 It stunk at every level. SNL is a franchise that's had strong years and lean, but this reeks of total lack of talent in the writing. That's not the performers' faults, that's a production problem. This didn't even seem like the sort of performance that was about risk-taking and fell down; it just plain flat stunk. The only lasting impression beyond that was the cartoonishly overt bloviating racism. It's possible there was some idea behind this, to effect that F&F typically is the most obvious program on FNC for using barely-concealed dog whistle racism, and just SAYING it, sort of like what Key & Peele do with their Obama-and-Luther routine with Luther the Anger Translator going way OTT, constitutes parody; but if so, it sure didn't come across like that was the idea, especially in that some of the most blatantly racist language was put in Romney's mouth, even though there's not an atom of evidence in at least two decades of public office to support that Romney has EVER been racist or said anything at all racist. I doubt SNL has the least historical understanding or feel for it's identity any more. It should be sent up state to frolic in splendorius grasses and meet with a sudden and entirely unforeseen fatal hunting accident.

They're here to stir up shit and then beat off to the angry responses. It's attention-seeking behavior that most of us grow out of at 5 years old.

Synopsis, so you don't actually have to watch this drivel:

The first “Saturday Night Live Weekend Update Thursday” aired last night on NBC, continuing an election year tradition that began in 2008. The first show kicked off last night with a sketch about – what else? – Mitt RomneyÂ’s “47%” videotape and the determined efforts by the perky hosts at “Fox & Friends” to downplay the nomineeÂ’s comments.

Naturally, in the “SNL” version of the undercover videotape, Jason Sudeikis’ Romney puts things in even starker terms than his real-life counterpart. As for “these people” who won’t vote for him, the candidate wasn’t referring to senior citizens, members of the armed services, and especially not Southern whites.

After pausing to make sure his remarks werenÂ’t being recorded, fake-Romney put it blunty. “When I say ‘these people,Â’ I mean black people.”

The personalities on “Fox & Friends” weren’t bothered. “Call me crazy but I like seeing an honest moment from a politician,” said Gretchen Carlson, played by Vanessa Bayer.

From there, the secret Romney tapes grew gradually more offensive. In one, Romney spit out hamburgers at McDonald’s; in another, he takes a ride in the “Cash Cab” and expresses distrust for employees at hotels in California – "a.k.a. North Mexico."

But it wasn’t until a fourth videotape of Romney singing a song about poor people in the shower (lyrics: “The only thing the poor hate more than condoms, is waking up and going to a job”) that the “Fox & Friends” gang was finally at a loss.

“That one’s tougher to spin,” said Steve Doocy, played by Taran Killam.

Not to worry, though: Doocy came to the rescue by teasing an ominous-sounding video of a “4-year-old Obama asking for something called pasketti.”

241) Agreed. I think it's hopeful that the Rasmussen swing state polls in only Obama +1 and it includes Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin.

Romney is ahead in Colorado +2, North Carolina +6, New Hampshire +3, Iowa +3

Obama is ahead Nevada +2, Pennsylvania +12, Wisconsin +3.

We haven't had updates on Michigan, Virginia, Ohio, and Florida lately. They were all Obama by a few last week. With Obama up so much in PA and also ahead in Nevada and Wisconsin, but only up 1 overall, I'm thinking that VA, OH, and FL are all either very close or barely Romney. I'm not sure how the states are all weighted but I would assume it's based on Electoral Votes, so it would take more than CO and NH to balance out PA, and a 12 point lead in PA is huge.

Long story short, hopefully this means Romney is up in VA, OH, and FL.

Also, ratings:

The SNL special managed just a 1.6 rating in the 18-49 age group that determines much of prime-time ad sales. That audience was vastly down from the first prime-time edition four years ago, which scored what now looks like an astronomical 5.1 rating. The 2008 show was fueled by intense interest in Tina FeyÂ’s portrayal of Sarah Palin. This year, there is no comparable character driving interest.

But with that less-than-stellar number at the beginning of the night, the rest of NBC’s comedy lineup performed limply. “Up All Night” could only manage a 1.3 rating, which was down from its 2.4 premiere a year ago. In a truly ominous sign for its last season, “The Office” tied its worst performance ever, with just a 2.1 rating. And the promising “Parks and Recreation,” with a special Washington-based episode, could only manage a 1.7 rating, down from a 2.1 premiere last year.

The “SNL” special (with a total audience of 5.1 million) and “The Office” (4.3 million) were the only NBC shows to draw over four million viewers.

Just think about that. The single best thing Carter did in office, de-regulate brewing so it could be done legally on the home scale.

Suddenly (Over a period of years) markets arose to supply the home brewers, successful home brewers went on to start micro-breweries that expanded in to craft breweries. Opportunities for American 2 row, and 6 row and American grown specialty malts expanded for farmers, not to mention commercial opportunities for hops varietal growers in the US. Those craft brewers start exporting their beers. Industries supporting home, small, and medium scope brewing operation, yeast labs...

All because Carter managed to get the government out of the US citizens way on one little thing.

I switched to AT&T Uverse but Verizon FiOS is also available in some areas. If you have an alternative cable provider, use it.

So tell me if this sounds plausible as a theory for some of the polling we've seen lately.

Gallup told us a couple weeks back that the self-identifcation of Democrats was the lowest they'd recorded since 1992 or so. Therefore, a lot of the fairweather Democrats (not hardened socialists, but probably the middle income public school teachers and so on) are gone to either I, and a few to R.

My guess it that those still self-identifying as D on a polling call are (a) more pro-Obama than the set of all people that are actually registered D, and (b) more excited about the election than the set of people that are actually registered as D, and (c) probably vote more often than the set of all people registered as D, since they are strong partisans, rather than casual, 'swingable' voters. That would explain why Obama's enthusiasm numbers higher now than about three months ago, if the self-identifcation dropped in the meantime.

What I'm wondering is if the non-Rasmussen polling firms are either encouraging or turning a blind eye to this selection bias that comes as an artefact of the self-identifcation in the poll. While only (something like) 32 percent of people self-ID'd as D to Gallup, we still see the very optimistic turnout predictions (D+8 or D+9, etc.) Not only are the predictions way too high, but they are also extrapolating the characteristics of the most partisan and excited Democrat base (that 32 percent of the electorate) and extending them to the 'fairweather' layer of people that would be necessary to achieve anything above a D+4 national turnout.

And in the meantime, the daily drum beat of 'it's over for Romney' from the MSM depresses casual R voter turnout, turning a 1% Romney win to a narrow loss, in their game plan.

Is this plausible or just non-sense?

Rendell is a notorious jock-sniffer, loves to hobnob with athletes and sports media. As Governor, he enjoyed dinner at the Paternos (a highly desired invite in PA) more than once. He was Governor and on the Penn State Board of Trustees when the Sandusky reign of perversion was underway at PSU athletic facilities. He also was chief executive of the state when AG Tom Corbett opened the Sandusky probe in 2009.

There is no way that Rendell didn't at least hear rumors of the charges against Sandusky. In PA, all roads lead to Rendell. It wouldn't be in the least surprising to learn he had covered for Eddie Savitz early in his political career.

Savitz was a pedophile who was beyond perverted, if you want, look him up but be prepared to get grossed out.

NBC sports has been in the toilet for decades. They made kollidge basketball real popular with Al McGuire and then let that get away. The NHL is about to go in the shitter forever with another dumbass strike. The Olympics is a total fucking sham run by bureaucratic turds that wreck the economy of the host country unless it has somebody smart like Romney overseeing the shit show. They snagged Notre Dame football just when it got terrible. I think they have the lezzo date night known as the WNBA although they might have jettisoned that ratings nightmare.

369 My family has been quietly boycotting all NBC at our house for well over four years now. We missed the Office at the beginning, but got over that pretty quick.

I really don't mind being exposed to other political views. Hell, as a conservative, it's nigh-on-impossible to exists in a bubble here in California. But there's a difference between a media group that is openly liberal, and one that is actively hateful and hostile to me, my family, and the values we hold dear.

I will not be called names by you all night and still consume your shitty product, NBC/Universal. That should go without saying.

But boycotting NBC cannot end at NBC and MSNBC. They own several cable channels and they all need to be removed permanently from your program guides. Just use the Parental Blocks on your cable/satellite box to wipe out all of the following NBC-owned channels:

A&E ("Law & Order" reruns 4ever)
Bravo (mostly gay)
CNBC
E! (culture wars crap)
SyFy
Oxygen
USA network
Style (more culture wars crap)
The Weather Channel (AGW central)
G4
NBC network (natch)
MSNBC (everything liberals claim Fox News is)
The Golf Channel (this one hurts a little)

And our spanish-speaking morons should also boycott Telemundo. Univision, TV Azteca and Galavision are all better anyway.

Finally, those of you who collect movies on home video should cancel all Universal Home Video purchases until they are sold again.

371 Cancel all of your Comcast products and when the customer support person asks why, tell them you are "finished financing a corporation that broadcast's leftwing propaganda...buh-bye!" Make them hurt.

Posted by: Harrison J. Bounel at September 21, 2012 12:45 PM (WMeMr)

372 @386 it is called the market. If someone produces a product you don't like, you avoid buying it. Your argument is silly and implies a "correct" right-wing person should buy things they don't like. That is the left wing solution where the only option is what the government provides and there are no alternatives.

I would not go after advertisers. They advertise on all networks. But by reducing ratings for NBC, what happens is the rate they can charge for that advertising falls. Advertising rates are based on eyeballs seeing the ads. Those eyeballs are measured by ratings. The higher the rating, the more you can charge for ads in that slot. So if people don't use the product (watch NBC), then their revenue falls regardless of any actions against the advertisers.

But, if you get rid of Comcast cable and choose a competitor AND don't watch NBC, it gets them at both ends.

Don't boycott the advertisers, just kick NBC and Comcast to the curb.

Michael Savage, who's got just a tad more exposure than Ace-hole, suggested a boycott of HBO because of the Larry David episode where he splattered pee on the picture of christ in the bathroom and the "water" was interpreted as tears of christ and, therefore, a miracle. That went well - HBO is all washed up now. Lighten up or go suck on an exhaust pipe, already. I thought Republicunts were supposed to be stronger and tougher and smarter than the Lib-tards. Bitches, right down the fukn line you are, and whiney pussy ones at that.
