— Ace This is cool beans. The Sand Flea is designed for scouting the enemy.
How to ascend heights? I guess simply jumping turned out to be more effective than other methods.
Supposedly...
In the hands of a capable operator, it is reportedly accurate enough to jump through a second-story window.
Gotta watch the video. Very neat stuff.

That thing looks like it can survive a drop from altitude, including terminal velocity. Which means with a little more design work, the next Mars Rover could be dropped from orbit, and even with it's small size, could still traverse a lot more terrain than the last Rover did.

Any capable Taliban skeet shooter could take the sand flea out.
Maybe, but usually it's only the Japanese who want to date robots, the Talibs prefer goats.

We already have that capability. Since jumping a monster truck on the roof puts you on the first floor just like a tank going through the wall.

Pretty neat, but mostly a toy. It takes a likkin' and keeps on tickin', but I noticed it was in an urban environment with hard surfaces to launch from and hard smooth surfaces to land on. What about long flights of stairs, dense vegitation, rocky terrain? What if it doesn't have a solid surface to launch from? Still just a toy I think.

Yup. And SpecOps has a mini-claymore in the inventory that weighs less than a pound and fits in a BDU pants cargo pocket. Perfect for this application.

Then again, too 1980s--they give away the footage for 29.95 a month.

It really does need sound effects, like buzzing sounds when crawling, and of course a boing boing sound when jumping. Maybe even a crash sound when it lands.
What these designer dudes seem to lack is imagination.
