Everyone else in the entire place was well over 300 pounds, every single one. And the people next to us kept smacking their lips loudly as they ate piles of fried chicken.
We ate one plate and left. My husband went on a diet the next day. And the place went out of business about 6 months later. I think those overweight people have some sort of radar where they find restaurants like that.

Back when I was poor in Sacramento we would dig up $3 each and go the the all you can eat place until we became regulars. One day, as we were sitting trying to let some food digest before going back up one of us complained about that days gambling at the track. His voice was slightly elevated but nothing which would disturb anyone and lasted for one sentence.
The manager came over and informed us that there are no outbursts allowed in the restaurant and banned us. We knew we were banned for breaking the unspoken rules, and not the manufactured rule. Didn't think of picketing though.

We used to have a monthly "pig-out" at work. It had to be an all-you-can-eat buffet. Souplantation was pretty popular. You could stuff yourself and still believe that it was healthy for you because of the lack of fat. We became rather discriminating of Chinese buffets.

It does seem that it's ever harder to keep an all-you-can-eat buffet in business. Some seem to survive (Chinese buffets, for example. Also Cici's and Golden Corral for some reason), but most don't.
Ironically, that's probably a sign people are sharing drinks, not that they're eating too much.
The problem of the guy who just eats and eats and eats is that you have to shut down your buffet for a while every day. You have to clean the surfaces and perform other maintenance.

When our son and his fellow U. S. Marines were doing pre-deployment training with the Brits, the Brits would save their beers until the end of the week and drink them all at once (while our guys glared at them).
Then they'd open glow sticks and swallow the contents.
Their pee glowed in the dark, much to the awe of our guys.

When our son and his fellow U. S. Marines were doing pre-deployment training with the Brits, the Brits would save their beers until the end of the week and drink them all at once (while our guys glared at them).
The Brit sailors used to do this with their rum ration back in the day.
The officers' way of preventing it was to water it down a bit, forcing them to drink it before it goes bad, thus inventing grog.

"The problem of the guy who just eats and eats and eats is that you have to shut down your buffet for a while every day. You have to clean the surfaces and perform other maintenance."
There's a great Chinese buffet near us that we'll go to from time to time. Kinda spendy, so not too often. They enforce this by having an hour in the middle of the afternoon that they formally "close." Hours are (whatever) to 3:00 and 4:00 - (whatever). Good thinking.
In college, the cafeteria was all-day service. There were a couple of Saturdays where a group of us would go in for lunch, eat / talk / study / snack all afternoon clear into dinner service.

All polls are meaningless right now, but even later down the road those "nationwide" polls will still be meaningless.
We do not elect Presidents on a nationwide vote. The ones that matter are the State by State ones like what CAC is doing.

Agreed. The nationwide polls, at best, indicate "momentum." What's important is the state-by-state breakdown. If Obama is getting 88% of the vote in CA and NY, that really skews the "nationwide" results, but doesn't indicate anything, really.

Disgusting isn't only for bufetts. My first job at 14yrs old was a pizza restaurant washing dishes. The two sons were the cooks but were lazy so they were "teaching" me to cook so they could lounge in the back room.
A bully who had bothered me from junior high came in with his family for some pizza so I told the sons I'd make this one, they vacated to the back room. I took the pizza dough into their filthy bathroom, kicked it around the floor until it was black speckled. Made the pizza and watched them eat it.

My favorite Donna Summer song was the theme from Mahagony, but that's just because we got to sing it for a school concert in elementary school so it has stuck with me ever since.
And all this talk of roller rinks makes me nostalgic. The feeling in them these days isn't like it was when I was a kid.

D*mn it, Mitt! The Presidency is about character. The election may be about the Economy- but Character matters, too. If people believe he's of good character (which you basically just said he is, idiot), then they'll be at least a little more willing to give him a pass on his miserable failures.
Also, highlighting the truth which was hidden in 2008 is not "character assassination" it's "vetting."

That was brutal...the guidos were unbearable assholes. Got into alotta brawls. And the miserable eeyores of the 90's grunge fad were just as insufferable. Loved alot of the grunge music though esp. Alice in Chains.

The double-album of their greatest hit which was released about 10 or 12 years ago is fantastic.
My daughter used to watch their PBS concert over and over.

I completely understand. I don't think for a SECOND he wouldn't blame the SEALs if the OBL raid had gone to hell. I also think - and this is the cynic in me - that he's asked his staff/the JCs to find people for him to decorate.
I can't imagine ever being decorated by Obama. Ever. It could be for single-handedly taking out seventeen machine gun nests with a twinkie and a thimble, but I wouldn't want his fingers on it. I'd feel tainted.

With the Obama campaign and economy imploding ahead of schedule, I think Ace is taking a "strategic pause". When the unexpected happens, you need to reevaluate.

Every Veteran's Day they opened their doors for free to veteran's, and the line would be out the door.
Outside of a military base is probably the only place where you will see people in excellent physical condition, in BDUs (or whatever they call them these days) and disgustingly filthy from coming out of the field.
They never said a word about it, and at the time, it never occurred to me that there was anything wrong with it.
Ah, to be young and badass again.

I confess, there never were many jello dishes at the Episcopal potlucks I went to growing up. But, the church I went to was the country club set and I don't think any of them allowed jello in their houses.
