Some have theorized that this could help Obama by taking the issue of Obamacare off the table. That seems unlikely. Rather, such a ruling would confirm in votersÂ’ minds that Obama took his eye off the ball by focusing on health care rather than the economy during the first year of his administration.

No no no.
The reason foreclosures were down is that the banks were stuck in the robo-signing scandal and DOJ litigation. Now that that is settled, 2012 will be a big year for foreclosures.

Responsible homeowners can't move for work opportunities because it will turn their paper losses into actual dollar losses.
When Reagan inherited a badly dysfunctional economy, he bit the bullet, getting Volcker's cooperation in raising interest rates to squeeze out inflation. It cost him in the 1982 elections and in Bob Dole's TEFRA, which gave back some of the Kemp-Roth tax benefits, but by mid-1983 the recovery was underway and would deliver him a landslide in November 1984.

Inventory in the Philly burbs is piling up by the minute. Driving around, there are houses that are bank owned not even listed for sale yet...the infamous shadow inventory. I'm on a list to get sale properties sent to me, there are bank-owned houses that started at $189k now down to $125k. Buyers forego them because there are so many houses in that range they can buy that don't need work. And this is in a decent area - the lower income areas are experiencing a bloodbath.
IMO the most painful stat in regards to Average Joe/Jane voter: most who bought homes two years ago, thinking they were purchasing at the bottom...are already underwater.

You've got to admit that those that bought with that First Time Home buyer $10k stimulus bait back in 2009 have it far worse. They bought into the government propaganda even earlier than those 2011 saps and are now kicking themselves for reaching for that 10k cheese in the trap.

What Obama now faces is a much tougher road because the economy isn't getting the kind of take off his team hoped for, or expected, earlier this year. The dilemma is underscored by the ABC News poll just released that shows a majority of voters don't favor the president's economic plan. The numbers are especially bad among independent swing voters.
Oh dear, the MFM is fretting for its boyfriend.

On the why do banks let houses rot after foreclosure thing, there are a few problems. First, if the banks let all the inventory onto the market at once, housing prices will crater even more. Second, for awhile banks were using a scheme whereby the foreclosure would be finalized, the sale held, the former owners evicted but the bank would never file the foreclosure deed with the register of deeds. This meant that the owner of record for tax purposes and for fines by the city for lack of maintenance was still the foreclosed property owner. I know there was some movement to do away with that but I haven't kept up with those attempts. Third, people can't qualify to buy homes so why try to market something you know you can't sell.
There's a major issue with liability for what are effectively abandonded bank owned properties. When the house is turned into a meth lab/crack den and when the house burns to the ground and takes the neighborhood with it, is the bank liable? That's still an open question in many areas.

Remember Amber Lee Ettinger, a.k.a "Obama Girl," who confessed she had a "crush on Obama" in the smash viral video hitof the 2008 campaign?
Well, get ready for "Obama Boy."
"Hey Barry, it's me," Justin Brown, a.k.a "Obama Boy," says at the beginning of the new video, released last week. "If you're there, pick-up already. I was just watching you on LOGO."
The new music video, written and directed by New York-based filmmaker John Duarte, is both a response to "Obama Girl"--which was viewed more than 24 million times on YouTube--and a tribute to the president's historic support of same-sex marriage.
The lyrics to "Obama Boy" include plenty of double entendre ("I can't wait to see you get hard on Romney in debate") and LGBT talking points:
Just what Barry needs a gay black singing about his love for Barry

Yes, I forgot about that sorry group. I finally submitted an offer after looking at about 70 houses. The offer was on a short sale. The seller's agent told my agent I should forget about it since the competing bid was "considerably higher". Mine was a cash offer so I figured I had a fighting chance. Something didn't sit right with me, so I would go back to the property from time to time, and find notices pasted on the door regarding winterizing. The only time I've seen that happen is when the bank takes the house back.
Bottom line, my bid expired, no one got the house, it's technically still for sale. I feel bad for the seller because I think they're being played by the bank, which is one of those that just settled with DOJ.
It is a freakin jungle out there.

Prices of homes actually ticked up during the $10K stimulus for First Time Home buyers. Especially as it was about to expire for the last time and it was obvious there would be no more extensions. So those poor saps are worse off than if they had stayed out of the market. I believe the $10K has to be paid back at some point. Every stimulus tax funded "gift" Obama has processed NEVER reached the "intended" target named by Congress. Rather, tax funded stimulus packages have consistently represented rewards, squandered on corrupt political pirates with sticky fingers and deep pockets representing the very parties who cheated in the first place. And in reality, that was the intent all along, and remains so. Whether Mortgages, Student Loans, "Green Clean" Energy, none of those allocated tax funds implement what politicians promised taxpayers and voters.
Our government has become organized crime.
Romney won't take a stand against that, exposing the very people funding his campaign, let alone prosecuting corruption. If he would, he would have. And his most ardent Republican Leadership supporters won't, either. They profit, regardless of which party wins. The only question is by how much. No doubt who pays, either.
Schade, Obama. Völlig, Romney.

I don't have a link to this; it was in a weekly email from the International Risk Management Institute, but a little googling/binging would doubtless turn it up. My editorial comment is this: "Uh-oh."
"After 5 consecutive months of modest growth in demand for design services, as measured by the American Institute of Architects Architecture Billings Index (ABI), design firms reported a slight decline in billings for April. Although industry observers were hoping to see an ongoing pattern of growth, however modest, the April index is consistent with a number of other measurements of economic conditions, including construction employment, which has moderated expectations regarding the pace of recovery.
"The Midwest (ABI of 50.1) and Northeast (51.0) reported modest growth in billings, albeit less than in recent preceding months. The South region continued to slide, falling from an ABI high of 54.4 in November to 49.0 in April. The West (48.0) region remains the weak link, despite a slight drop in the rate of decline over the past few months.
"Although the commercial/industrial sector continues to lead the industry, the April ABI of 53.8 represents a drop in the rate of growth. The institutional sector remains weak, as ABI fell to 46.6 in April.
"As a leading economic indicator of construction activity, the ABI reflects the approximate 9-12-month lag time between architecture billings and construction spending."

My suggestion would have been that this stuff is like porn to us, but nothing about that commercial yanks disinterested people out of their happy place. You know, that place where commercials are annoying bullshit that they pay as little attention to as possible. Meaningless stock imagery accompanied by facts kind of buries it that you're leading up to Obama revealing what an idiot he is. It's just kind of perfunctory and paint by numbers the way they did it.

Poland's Solidarity Movement was UNION. Hardly an unnecessary evil.
The corruption of leadership has ruined more than the original purpose of union organization, and of our own government as well, including political parties.
What, people are evil, or "an unnecessary evil"?
The best take on that is "Adam's Apples" (Denmark, 2005):
A neo-nazi sentenced to community service at a church clashes with the blindly devotional priest.

If the banks forclose they have to book the loss so they let people stay in the houses for years to avoid that and the banks were paying the coupon to the bondholders to avoid booking their losses. Now the cost is straining the banks so they're being forced to forclose. Second line mortgages on underwater first mortgages are all worth zero and not forclosing has allowed the banks cough* citibank* cough to value those assets at 100 cents on the dollar. If the TBTF banks were forced to mark to market they'd all be insolvent today.
If you have an account in any of these banks when this house of cards collapses you're going to take it right in the squeekhole without lube.

You're dumb at any amount because the FDIC couldn't cover all the insured losses from just one TBTF bank and they have no time limit on repaying your lost deposit. Losses from the 1980s S and L crisis were just finally paid in the last few years. They can take a hundred years to pay you back and you would have no recourse.

At DreamWorks Studios, Steven Spielberg spent three hours explaining how to capture an audience’s attention and offered a number of ideas that will be rolled out before Election Day. An early example of Spielberg’s influence is RomneyEconomics.com, a website designed by the Obama team to tell the story—a horror story, by their reckoning—of Mitt Romney’s career at Bain Capital. Afterward, Spielberg insisted that Messina sit down with the DreamWorks marketing team. Hollywood movie studios are expert, as presidential campaigns also must be, at spending huge sums over a few weeks to reach and motivate millions of Americans.

What they bring with them from the cold, according to one source, is "the keys to the kingdom as far as Holder is concerned," adding "if this comes out before the (contempt) vote (on 20 June), then Holder is toast." Said another, "not even Boehner will be able to stop it. Hell, he'll really jump on board and act like it was his idea."

I've yet to hear of a failure to pay off. Rest assured - the federal government can produce as many dollars as it needs, and preventing bank runs is as good a use of the printing press as there is.
No they can't unless you want to starve. QE1 and 2 are the prime cause of the increase in commoditiy prices. But you have no worry because you already told me you plan on killing yourself rather than trying to live through the collapse.

And you base this assertion on what? Are you saying we're the only ones paying more for food and energy? LOL.
I guess the increased cost of oil extraction and global increases in food demand have nothing to do with it... Not all price increases are synonymous with inflation.
QE has been more than offset by the collapse in the velocity of money. It's not out there driving up demand. The bulk of QE is still sitting around in banks doing nothing. Without lending, there is no demand driven inflation.
When the economy picks up (if ever) we will need to worry about the money stock. Until then, there are bigger policy problems. Specifically, those holding back the recovery.

You have a problem with Goldwater Republicans, with Eisenhower Republicans, and with Taft Republicans, then admit how avidly "perfect" your own views are, and how UNNECESSARY TO ELECTORAL VICTORY my concerns are, being irrelevant so far as you deem. That you go so far as to call the truth a lie tells all.
When you find yourself in a fundamentalist Muslim operated hospital intent on your physical demise in the most painful fashion, remind yourself that the defibrillator is never misused. It's a good thing. Just like an alliance with al-Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood when you pay and train them to do whatever. What ever could go wrong? Gaddafi's gone, Libya has "Democracy" /and you make fun of others in D'Nile/.
Back in the day, my dad taught in Libya in a university exchange program for three years. Despite his evils, Gaddafi actually invested Libyan oil revenues to modernize Libya, providing infrastructure and free education hiring the best foreign experts to educate Libyan students, hence a literate population if nothing else boasting women's professional opportunities. Not America. But at least Gaddafi provided food, housing and education and jobs for his various populations and maintained the peace between the tribes -- a thorn in the side of those who denounce the evils of Socialism. And socialism, in America, is not the constitutional ideal, and never will be. There are rules understood by everyone in the Middle East. Unless you are indigenous, you don't belong there. (Even being indigenous no longer determines security as to "belonging" as "infidels" are terminated. Sound familiar?)
Produce reliable reports from Libya and Egypt of improved living standards for the mass population, and for the minority indigenous Christian population, not to mention whichever Muslim sects are not the majority per local fundamentalist "government". NATO forces bombed the civilians' infrastructures, not simply "government" strongholds. It wasn't just Gadaffi annihilated, or the forced removal of Mubarak from public life, but the well being of the previously stable social structure in Libya and Egypt that NATO bombed. Waterlines, roads, hospitals, schools, homes: BOMBED. Even were the US taxpayers to be forced via POTUS foreign aid allocations to rebuild what we've destroyed abroad, without the stability that we forcibly removed, don't hold your breath in hopeful expectation. Even Jean Kirkpatrick admonished American neoconservative foreign policy to realize that strongman nations don't really change, just names change.

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney declared that "it is far past time for the United States to begin to lead and put an end to the Assad regime." Naturally, he offered no credible means of doing so.

Real key? to Syria? RUSSIA!
There are only two viable supply routes to our troops in Afganistan, Russian and Pakistan.
Pakistan has blocked our supply routes, and are playing humble the SuperPower to reopen them....
So that leaves Russian supply routes... which they will close if we try to intervene in Syria.
Obama and Clinton are stupid to have put us in this position... and the Pentagon Generals have to be either blind, or stupid, to have allowed this.

I base it on the prices of commodities. What do you think caused the outbreak of Arab spring in North Africa? Their food costs doubled in a month; lots of countries don't have any slack and the Bernake's QE-1 hit the countries living on the margin hard.
One other thing, that excess liquidity isn't sitting in the bank's vaults, liquidity always chases yield and since the Bernake was ass-raping savers with his ZIRP that liquidity ran into commodities in search of yield and energy prices spiked not because of increased demand, demand has fallen off the cliff, they spiked because oil is traded in dollars. We're seeing currency inflation which is causing margin compression and demand destruction. If we keep emitting unbacked dollars even the Bernake knows it will cause a currency collapse and the asset deflation he's been trying so hard to avoid.

Last I checked, North Africa doesn't buy its food with dollars. That problem was the result of rising food prices driven by demand increases corresponding with dramatic reductions in supply - specifically the wheat harvest failures in Russia and Australia. I'll even conceed that ethanol production didn't help matters (though I think it was trivial in its impact). Lest we forget, Russia actually banned wheat exports after the big crop fire - I don't know whether those were lifted yet. QE did not starve the Arabs (though that would also be a big plus in my book and a reason for more QE if that were true). Nature and a more affluent Asian population starved the arabs.
Re liquidity, most of the QE existed only for the purpose of recapitalizing the banks. The banks weren't the ones running out to invest in commodity speculation - they instead dumped the money largely into treasuries, as per the design of the plan. Plenty of other yield seekers were indeed speculating in commodities, but that's to be expected when other investments aren't able to generate a reasonable profit, as tends to happen in a bad economy.
Re energy demand, yes - it's down HERE - but the supply is also greatly constrained. Minimal gulf production. Libyan crisis. Older fields dying off. Newer fields have slow flow rates, even if the reserves are huge. Further, demand continued to increase in Asia - India and China both increased consumption during this time. Supply uncertainty due to various unhappy global events also added a fear premium.
So, let's say I'm all wet on this. What was the alternative to QE? Leave the banks undercapitalized to the lending system would freeze up even worse? I suppose the easy answer is to say we should have let it all fall down and then rebuild, but I think that's about the riskiest proposition you can go with. Once productive capacity is destroyed it's damn hard to rebuild. And if you want to talk about "ass raping" the savers - let them enjoy some nice systemic bank failures and see how much they like that. I suspect that suddenly their 1/2% return, along with capital preservation, will look damn good.
You can't just look at prices increasing in certain specific sectors and say we have inflation. Supply and demand are critical considerations, and we conservatives should know better than anyone about that. I hate Obie and his cronies at least as much as anyone alive, but I'm not going to distort reality to fit my hates. Obviously we can't sustain trillion dollar deficits ongoing without eventually getting high inflation, but given the huge unemployment and open productive capacity in the US, inflation isn't our most immediate problem. That will come later. Our most immediate problem is figuring out how to get people working again and feeling like there is hope for an economic future.

That Romney ad attacking Oblahblah is fucking awesome.
You want to know what's so awesome about it?
The average voter is not going to know (or even care much) that Romney's ad is mockingly trading on Obama's ad from back in 2008.
So, there is no chance that its mimicking feature is going to influence vote share in the slightest.
Rather, Romney's ad is a crystal clear sign to the Obama campaign (and to us Romney supporters) that Romney is not going to be playing nice. Not in the slightest.
To the average voter, that ad effectively and accurately highlights that Obama is out of touch with a failing economy that his policies (by implication) have worsened. Good.
To the Obama campaign, that ad is a glaring, red neon sign that says: "We are coming for you, fuckers. And we want you to know it."
Ever since the GOP Florida primary, I have had no doubt that Romney would not hesitate to come after his political opponents with a meat cleaver.
Romney is No Holds Barred. - And he won't let you tap out.
Say your prayers, Team Obama.
