NFC Title Game, 49ers and Giants
— Dave in Texas

giantschick.jpg

Editorial Correction [ace]: Dave posted a Niners cheerleaders pic. I had to step in and swap it out. I'm a rationalist but I believe in jinxes. The Giants girl is workin' for me.

I think this is the same girl from last week.

It appears there is no hideous birthmark on her abdomen, Flaw-Spotters. False alarm on that one.

It is not only the joking / ridicule that they subject white men to on television but the serious ridicule and criticism they subject them to in more serious fields. All that being said, I notice it but do not especially care. I do find it amusing how thin skinned those who like to write the jokes are when the joke is on them.

ACAPULCO, Mexico (AP) - Police say eight men were killed in an attack on a funeral in a rural area of Guerrero, part of a death toll of 13 over the weekend in the southern state plagued by drug violence.

An Atoyac de Alvarez municipal police statement says officers found seven dead and two injured early Sunday morning at the scene of a vigil. One of the injured later died.

The statement said the funeral-goers were attacked by masked men firing large caliber rifles favored by drug cartels as they mourned the victim of shooting several days earlier.

387 Gonna stop watching. Got a bad feeling about this game.

They had a better season than I thought they were going to have based
on all of the players that left or were injured at one time or another.

Plus they don't make the playoffs if the Eagles and Cowboys don't implode.

Posted by: Tammy al' Thor at January 22, 2012 04:54 PM (SsG4J)

389 Hmmm, well I've changed my mind. Well, mostly because I'm trying to rationalize rooting for the 49ers, instead of the Giants, since I wanted them to win at the start of the day for the Har-Bowl matchup. But then I figured that a Pats-Giants rematch would be a good storyline. But now I think a Pats-49ers matchup would be a better storyline, since it would mostly focus on a great D going up against a great O. And a rookie coach going up against one of the greatest coaches of all time. Plus I can imagine this is a replay of 1985, with the D of the Bears going up against the Patriots. Plus gotta root for former Bear Jim Harbaugh. Not to mention all that Alex Smith has gone through in his career, both professionally and personally (losing his best friend to suicide a few years back). Okay, back on the bandwagon... Go Niners!

That must be why Matt Forte is probably going to hold out and not play for $14-$15mil/year, or whatever he was offered by the Bears last offseason, because "he plays for the fans". Uh huh. And why during the opening game of the season last year, players from the Saints and Colts went the field with one finger in the air, apparently to symbolize unity of the NFLPA regarding their standoff with the NFL owners... because they "play for the fans". Uh huh. Nice try, NFL.

Sweet redemption for an almost goat...

"The play also gave Moore a chance to atone for an earlier mistake, when he thought he would be the reason the Patriots wouldn't be headed to Indianapolis. It was his missed tackle that sprung a Torrey Smith 29-yard touchdown in the third quarter.

"Everybody was telling me, 'We know what you can do, just put that behind you,'" Moore said. "You gotta have a short memory. Â… I thought this loss was going to be on me. That was the first thing I could think of. I'm glad it worked out."

ItÂ’s been quite the journey for Moore in just one year in the league. The 21-year-old signed as an undrafted free agent with the Raiders in July, only to be cut after training camp. From there, Moore signed with New England and was placed on the practice squad in October. He played in one game before being cut by the Patriots, only to be brought back in later in the season.

When it was all said and done, Moore found himself making arguably the biggest play in the biggest game of the season, sending the Patriots to Indianapolis.

I can see one thing with the new rules in OT, you wouldn't want to try a long field goal on first possession.  It really wouldn't help.

629 And that's why most teams elect to kick on the opening kickoff, so it becomes a field position game from the opening kickoff.

They don't choose to kick, teams that win the opening coin toss defer their choice to the second half, so they can take the ball then.  Choice then goes to the loser of the coin toss, who generally chooses to take the ball because you score points with your offense.

Same reason teams that win the OT coin toss take the ball.

I'm suspicious. You know how to spell two multisyllabic words.

They were fair weather fans in the 80s and 90s when I lived there. I can't imagine that they got better.

A bunch of effete, Chardonnay swilling assholes who arrive late and leave early. Or drunken idiots who fight in the stands and the parking lots.

739 Thank also the dearth of good wide receivers on the Niners this year. Crabtree's pretty good, but he only had once reception for three yards. It seemed like they went away from short, quick downfield passes with some RAC, and kept trying to go long. There were also few planned rollout plays. Sometimes Smith was forced out of the pocket, and then underthrew his receiver. The coaching effort just seemed off to me today.

740 724 We're going to hear how great Eli and Brady were even though Eli got there courtesy of two mishandled punts and Brady got there over a pooched FG

Posted by: kbdabear at January 22, 2012 10:40 PM (Y+DPZ)

Who cares. That's part of the game. Both Eli and Brady are obviously significant reasons for why both the Giants and Patriots are in the Super Bowl this year (and in previous years). Both, especially Brady, carried their teams at times during the season and neither would have been in any position to advance to the Super Bowl without them. Plus, it's not like both haven't lead their teams to the Super Bowl before.

742 >>>Yes, but we're going to hear how great the Giants are even though they lucked into the game.

Luck?

Okay.  Guess the Giants defense had nothing to do with repeatedly stopping the 49ers from getting within field goal range when it could have won the game for them.

Unlike the Pats who allowed the Ravens to get into a position to send the game into overtime and, lucky for them, the Ravens missed.

743 A bunch of effete, Chardonnay swilling assholes who arrive late and leave early. Some yes, some no. My mom's male cousins, who have been Niner fans since the early 70's, and had season tickets through the 80's and 90's, were SF firemen. They all retired in the late 90's and moved far enough North of SF that it became impractical to attend.

745 712 Pats win the SB 45 to 42 in OT.

They both better up their games, then.  All 4 teams seemed to play tentatively today.

It'll be even worse after a two-week layoff.

750 49ers failed to convert on 3d down all day today. They were lucky the score was that close. Both teams played superb defense today.

Posted by: real joe at January 22, 2012 07:39 PM (w7Lv+)

751 Lucky the score was that close? Screw you 'fake joe.' Niners defense dominated and tossed Elisha (his real name) around like a rag doll. Giants would've lost if it wasn't for a scrub special teamer or a loser ref that made up for the horrible call in the Green Bay game that took away a Bradshaw fumble. Go away.

Posted by: NJRob at January 22, 2012 07:41 PM (FVp26)

752 Sorry you're so butthurt by the game jersey rob, but the fact remains the 9ers didn't convert a 3d down today. hard to win that way hahaha now go cry some more.
