No Big Deal, But Obama's Friend Tried to Pay Off Reverend Wright
— Ace

Pardon me if this is already old.

A new book by Edward Klein called The Amateur alleges that a friend/supporter of Obama tried to pay Reverend Wright $150,000 to just go away and be quiet.

Now, the saving fact here for Obama is that this came from a friend so Obama can pretend this wasn't done at his behest.

The trouble is, immediately after Wright refused the bribe, Obama then met with him and tried to sugar-talk him into doing the same thing.

“After the media went ballistic on me, I received an e-mail offering me money not to preach at all until the November presidential election,” Wright told Klein, according to the New York Post, which obtained the excerpts.

ThatÂ’s when Obama himself got involved, Wright said, and made a personal plea to keep Wright out of the spotlight.

“Barack said he wanted to meet me in secret, in a secure place. And I said, ‘You’re used to coming to my home, you’ve been here countless times, so what’s wrong with coming to my home?’ So we met in the living room of the parsonage of Trinity United Church of Christ, at South Pleasant Avenue right off 95th Street, just Barack and me. I don’t know if he had a wire on him. His security was outside somewhere.”

Wright added that Obama seemed more concern about his political circumstances than WrightÂ’s personal well-being.

“And one of the first things Barack said was, ‘I really wish you wouldn’t do any more public speaking until after the November election.’ He knew I had some speaking engagements lined up, and he said, ‘I wish you wouldn’t speak. It’s gonna hurt the campaign if you do that.’ … I said, ‘I don’t see it that way. And anyway, how am I supposed to support my family?’ And he said, ‘Well, I wish you wouldn’t speak in public. The press is gonna eat you alive.’”

Klein then revealed the name of the guy who offered Wright $150,000.

“Well, what happened is that after ABC’s Brian Ross broadcast the video tapes of the Rev. Wright ‘God damning America’ and slamming whites and slamming Jews and America, he was contacted by one of Obama’s closest personal friends — a guy who travels on Obama’s plane, who plays basketball with him, who goes on vacation with him,” Klein said. “His name is Dr. Eric Whitaker. Dr. Whitaker is the vice president of the University of Chicago Medical Center and he’s a member of Obama’s very tight inner circle. And he sent an email to a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ.”

Does that hospital sound familiar? Oh, it sure does.

Klein reminded listeners that WhitakerÂ’s hospital is the same one that paid first lady Michelle Obama $316,962 a year to handle community affairs for the University of Chicago Medical Center while her husband served in the U.S. Senate.

obamawhitaker.jpg

As a commenter here is always doggedly pointing out, the hospital did not fill that job after Michelle Obama left it -- leaving one scratching one's head imagining what sort of job is so critical that you have to pay someone such a large salary to perform, and yet is simultaneously so unnecessary you can terminate the position entirely when the apple of your eye packs up for DC.

And of course there's still more, and I don't even mean the allegation that Obama appreciated that Wright helped him "convert" to Christianity without having to repudiate his "Islamic background."

I mean this good friend Whitaker is being nicely treated by the taxpaying public.

That’s the same guy who... got a “glowing” reference from Obama for Tony Rezko, which led to Rod Blagojevich hiring Whitaker to be the state’s public health director; and the same guy whose UHI program just got nearly $6 million from HHS as one of 26 grantees in an applicant pool of 3,000.

The six dollar million man? Indeed he is.

The Department of Health and Human Services last week announced it had awarded a $5.9 million grant to a University of Chicago Medical Center program tied to Michelle Obama and run by Eric Whitaker, one of President ObamaÂ’s closest friends.

The Urban Health Initiative, which received the award, was originally based on a smaller program launched during the last decade by Michelle Obama, who was an executive at the University of Chicago Medical Center before she departed to become first lady. The UHI is headed up by Obama basketball and golf buddy Whitaker, who has known the president since ObamaÂ’s days in law school and who also vacations with the first family.

Obama senior adviser Valerie Jarrett also has ties to the UHI.

I'm wondering why this isn't the Number One story in America.

But the answer is obvious. This story kills Obama -- ends the election now, over, done -- so it cannot be a story.

That's why it's up to us.

The media will not report this so there isn't any point whining about it.

It's up to us to report it, to publish it far and wide, to make sure every citizen in this country is aware of this bribe and the Chicago Way.

Respectfully differ.

It doesn't kill him with his base.  They're all in favor of him camouflaging those aspects of his background that would have hurt his electability.

It doesn't kill him with us on the right.  We were already against him.

That leaves the independents, whose attitude is "Will you boys stop that fighting?"  They'd hear this, and think, Yet more exaggerated charges being slung by partisans - like the right saying Clinton ran coke out of Mena, Arkansas; like the left saying Bush was Hitler; like the right says Obama wasn't born a U.S. citizen.

53 "like the right saying Clinton ran coke out of Mena, Arkansas" I saw a reporter ask him about it, some chick, she was all like I know this is really bogus and made up by your enemies blah blah blah. Clinton turned white and stone faced, he said to her "whatever happened at Mena Airport was the Federal Government and I had nothing to do with it." I thought he was going to take the reporterette's head off. I saw it on CSPAN or something, and I was like Holy Crap, because I thought Liddy was off his rocker talking about that stuff, but from Clinton's reaction, something happened. Maybe not what all was alleged, but something, and Clinton knew about it. I was looking for some verification of that once and there was an audio clip on WRH and Rense is a loon but I saw the video when it happened, and it really happened.

I have to wonder how well Dr. Whitaker knew who he was dealing with - a black pastor who feeds off the controversy he generates.  Can you imagine trying to buy off Jesse Jackson - wait never mind that one.  Still, this kind of aggressive minister, they don't feel pity, or fear, or remorse.  And they will not stop, ever.  Furthermore, Whitaker left an email trail.  People should know better in this day and age.

As to getting the grant, as if by magic.  If America has evinced no interest in how the current administration spends China's money by now, it never will.  The majority of the public has to know by now that Obama rewards his friends and punishes his enemies by every means the state has available.  This isn't a story, per se - it's SOP.

186 Yes, if there were a schism, Hill and Bill would be the logical titular heads. Where else would the disgruntled Dems go? Not exactly a deep bench in lib land.

187 In case Ace stumbles into this thread, Whitaker has strong links to Blago and Rezko too. http://tinyurl.com/6mmaetf If you feel like it Ace, and dig and hammer, you could make Obama respond to things like Weiner did. Just saying. There is smoke there dude.

The way this story is being treated is chillingly surreal. How is it that not even Fox News is covering this story as a major news item?

It's beyond bizarre.

One of Obama's inner circle, indeed one of his close friends, is accused of offering a $150,000.00 bribe to shut-up the outrageous mouth of Obama's personal spiritual mentor. Then when the alleged bribe is turned down, Obama pays his embarrassing associate a personal visit to ask him to clam up out of fear that it could cost him the 08' election.

And the press (even Fox) yawns?

What the hell is going on?

If it were revealed that Romney had as a personal spiritual mentor a Mormon priest who remained an out-spoken hold-out for polygamy, the press would hound Romney endlessly even though Romney himself (and the Mormon church) clearly reject polygamy.
Now imagine that it were later alleged that one of Romney's close friends had offered a $150,000.00 bribe to shut the polygamy pedaling priest up.
If there was any truth to the allegation, it would have utterly torpedoed Romney's bid for president.

I can understand why the story would be down-played. But why is it getting no play?
Again, what the hell is going on?

189 In a sane world there's no freakin' way that such an arrogant,, corrupt, inept poltroon like Bambi would ever even stand a glimmer of a chance of being the first gay president, let alone the first one to win a second term. How seriously mentally I'll does one have to be to vote for this jerk?

190 Eventualy, some enterprising reporter WILL see that Pulitzer Prize story out there though... like that one reporter who is actualy reporting on Gun Walker stuff.... and then the preference cascade.... Posted by: Romeo13 at May 15, 2012 11:53 AM (lZBBB) Your faith that the surface appearance of humanity in the journalistic profession is representative of some underlying decency is endearing, if not realistic. The Pulitzer committee is as corrupt as the rest of them.

191 Rahm wants to be America's Mayor. I would not rule out anything re NATO summit. I have heard that the Taliban have been invited.

195 What burns my ass is that Wright didn't shut up but he didn't hurt Obama at all.The MFM buried it.

196 Ace, I luves ya man, but this headline/story doesn't remotely kill Obama. 'Politician indirectly helps give sweet deal to friend from back home,' is business as usual in DC, Chicago, NYC, et al.

I don't think anyone cares about allegations from Rev. Wright. They didn't in 08 and they will even less so now.

[except for us, obvs]

Only one thing kills Obama. 13.1% unemployment.

197 And didn't Axelrod's firm do the PR for some Whitaker initiative?

198 All of these comments are nice, but understand you're most likely preaching to the choir. You all need to get off your duffs and convince anyone you can to vote against Obama. Hold your nose and vote for Romney if that's what it takes. Obama is ruining this nation and cannot be given a second term. At that point he's unfettered and god knows what he'll try to do.
