18 I don't necessarily expect every television personality to be a genius. What stands out for me is that the left endlessly plays up the notion that they are intellectually superior and anyone who differs with them is ignorant and probably mentally deficient. 30 Didn't see the show, but from that sample it's not clear that Friedman bombed. He went into Final Jeopardy with $8,400, which is respectable in a normal game, assuming they didn't dumb it down for the journalists.

I could have gotten the final answer --although George Washington Carver was also a decent guess. The clue isn't a good one because it relies on an obscure, opinion-based quote that could apply to either Whitney or Carver, rather than a fact, so to differentiate you're left with knowing which of the two went out of business in five years.

Cooper at least knew about the cotton gin. Friedman, in contrast to his two opponents, drew a complete blank, and that's embarrassing. Nevertheless, the South is not in his wheelhouse.

Wolf Bitzer set a pretty low bar, and unless I see someone else stink it up close to as much as he did, I won't be impressed.

Undoubtedly late to this... but imagine if Obama had to answer basic questions about history and literature and philosophy and science and math and engineering and technology, questions that require knowledge of facts, not just an ability to bullshit.

Believe me, a guy like Obama with an exotic (read: fake Third World) background and a facile verbosity could go to Columbia or any other Ivy League school in the early 1980s and take soft subjects like literary theory and political science and sociology and black studies and get A's without trying at all and without ever learning any actual facts.

He's always been graded on his biography, not his achievements.   And he's going to try to get away with it one more time.

Jeopardy is as much about manual dexterity as knowledge.  You can know all the answers but if you aren't the first contestant to hit their button after it is activated as the question is disclosed you can't win.  When I did watch the show years ago I could see how some contestants became frustrated at always getting beat to the buzzer.

Coworker of mine is a software admin that long ago decided that people forgetting their passwords was something that needed "consequence," with the hopes that if he started giving people a hard time about it, they would be motivated to start remembering their passwords.

So when someone would call to get a reset, he would reset their password to, literally, "changed."

Then he could let the hilarity ensue over the phone call.

I looked over the article. I confess, I wouldn't not have gotten the "modern lingo" questions either. Something about being within spitting distance of geezerhood, I guess.

However, it appals me that anyone who comments on American politics should be so ignorant as to not know the answer to the question about Eli Whitney. That's American History 101. At least now we have documentary proof: Tom Friedman doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about.

198 A few of the days were all lefties but on Wednesday Chris Wallace was on. He started real slow but then swamped some TV doctor and Katty Kay or Chatty Katty or something. Chris ended up with almost 20,000 points and Katty was under 10,000. From what I saw, these were 'short bus' questions, not the usual Jeopardy level questions. The best part of the Friedman episode was the Eli Whitney final. 0 for 3 on a pretty basic history question. For the week I just watched most of the last 3 episodes but the hi-lites were: Chris Wallace kicking ass on Katty Kay, Friedman bombing on easy, easy questions, and, of course, Chris Matthews, who from clips is a stone cold idiot, and the overall easier than usual questions - it's almost like the show acknowledged that the DC insiders that influence our governance couldn't compete with their normal contestant pool. Thank goodness there's nothing difficult going on now.
