NYT Reviews Obama Foreign Policy; Doesn't Find Many Successes
— Ace

Jim Geraghty digests the article so that you don't have to read it. Overall:

It never quite comes out and explicitly says the presidentÂ’s approach has failed, but the overall picture is withering and bleak.

Among his failings is his inability to even pretend some kind of personal relationship with foreign leaders, which apparently is a Big Thing in the Arab world. And:

Perhaps most significantly, “Months later, administration officials said, Mr. Obama expressed regret about his muted stance on Iran.”

Let’s set the wayback machine to June 16, 2009: “President Obama said Tuesday that it would be counterproductive for the United States “to be seen as meddling” in the disputed Iranian presidential election, dismissing criticism from several leading Republicans that he has failed to speak out forcefully enough on behalf of the Iranian opposition.”

So the Republican critics were right, and President Obama was wrong. Now he sees it.

Obama 2012: Because he now realizes where he botched his Iran policy early on!

If Romney doesn't hit Obama on this admission in the foreign policy debate, I'll hang myself.

Current RCP Ohio Average: Obama +2.63%

Reweighted to 2008 turnout: Obama +2.12%

80 Secretary of State Hillary Clinton reassured Egypt’s new Islamist president on Monday that the United States would forge ahead with plans to expand economic assistance despite anti-American protests that cast new shadows over US engagement with the region. Clinton met Egyptian President Mohamed Morsy in New York, where both are attending this week’s UN General Assembly meeting, and reinforced the Obama administration’s continued commitment to provide both military and economic aid for Cairo, a senior State Department official said. “What he heard from the secretary is that she is committed to following through on what she has said we will do,” the official said following the 45-minute meeting. US officials said earlier this month they were close to a deal with Egypt’s new government for US$1 billion in debt relief to help Cairo shore up its ailing economy in the aftermath of its pro-democracy revolution, which ousted autocratic President Hosni Mubarak. What could possibly go wrong?

90 I'm not sure what Romney can really do in the debates. The moderators are all screaming ass liberals with an agenda.

Assuming we actually get these debates...I think Obama would kill for a chance to get out of all of them.

The moderator can't interrupt the candidates.  After the question, they get a fixed amount of time for their responses.  The way the moderators can effect these is to ask Romney, "When did you stop beating your wife?" and Obama, "Do you think you're too awesome?"

The problem Obama has is that Romney's going to tell people a lot of things they haven't heard before. He's pretty good with facts and figures.  And, he can talk about things that have actually happened.  Obama can only tell lies and half-truths about what Romney will do.  If Romney's quick and knows what's coming, he can shoot it down by attacking the source.

Who will really win these debates is who sounds the most knowledgeable and that means details, details, details.  Romney has a head for numbers and will sound like he personally wrote section 78 of the farm bill or some such thing.

The Obama ad I've seen the most is one that paints Romney as wanting tax increases, based on some dumb "study" by the Tax Policy Center (Brookings).  Every 4 years, the Democrat party comes out against tax increases after just having advocated them.

Anyway, the first debate is domestic policy.  I.e., the economy.

It's true that Muslim "extremists" kill more fellow Muslims than anyone else.  They've been killing each other for centuries over which version of Islam should dictate every aspect of their lives.

But to portray them as victims is a bit like saying that drug dealing gang members have suffered the most from gang violence.  True, but missing the point.

161 I wonder if Obama has figured out yet that everything he thought was true about international relations is wrong?   If you remember his first moves were to support a Marxist coup in South America and to ignore the people protesting in Iran.  He did the latter because he had put all of his credibility on the line in telling everyone he could negotiate with the mullahs and talk them out of their nukes.  Damn the people in the streets who wanted to be free and were likely to be much friendlier to our interests.

So having fucked that up he thought he would learn from it and support the Muslim Brotherhood in its efforts to overthrow governments in several countries.  Missing from all of his calculations seems to be an appreciation of which governments were friendly to us and which were hostile.  And yet no one in the media asks him why he only supports popular rebellions when they are against our interests...

I do not exaggerate when I say that Obama's belated education in both economics and foreign relations has been the costliest in human history.

...The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam. Let us condemn incitement against Sufi Muslims, and Shiite pilgrims. It is time to heed the words of Gandhi: “Intolerance is itself a form of violence and an obstacle to the growth of a true democratic spirit.” Together, we must work towards a world where we are strengthened by our differences, and not defined by them. That is what America embodies, and that is the vision we will support...

191 Let us remember that Muslims have suffered the most at the hands of extremism.” ______________ *Ugh* actually that factoid is very true. More Muslims have been killed by Muslims. More Iraqis have been killed by Muslim terrorists, more pakis, more Afghanis... You get the idea. Posted by: tasker at September 25, 2012 12:47 PM (r2PLg) No, it's not true. More muzzies are killed by muzzies but that does not equate with teh Western notion of "suffered". You cannot analyze muslim situations with a Western mind. Muzzies support this "suffering" of themselves. That might seem insane to a Westerner but, then, most of islam is insane to a Westerner. You could say that being forced to kiss the ground 5 times a day is suffering and humiliating (many would) and that islam causes more of this "suffering and humiliation" to muslims than any Westerner ... but that is just not how they think or feel. They submit to a political ideology called "submission" and they like it. No. Muslims don't suffer at the hands of islam more than anyone else since islam doesn't hurt muzzies and what they would do nearly the same way it hurts civilized society. Muzzies aren't the ones whose complex societies have been brought to standstill by the acts of savages since muzzies are the friggin savages. Lions tear other lions apart but that is just their nature and there is no "suffering" in there as there is when a lion tears a human apart. Muzzies enjoy and support what they do to each other. That isn't "suffering". That's what they want. What they do to the rest of us (and try to force the rest of us to submit to) is not by our choice and they have no business in our societies with this shit. They have 57 nations to pull this crap on each other in. We suffer from islam. muslims don't. They like the savage life. It's what they prefer and that is not "suffering".

...The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam. Yet to be credible, those who condemn that slander must also condemn the hate we see when the image of Jesus Christ is desecrated, churches are destroyed, or the Holocaust is denied. Let us condemn incitement against Sufi Muslims, and Shiite pilgrims. It is time to heed the words of Gandhi: “Intolerance is itself a form of violence and an obstacle to the growth of a true democratic spirit.”

I'm glad for   the rest of the quote;   thank you,    spypeach.   But even then, the equivocation he makes is incorrect.     In all the examples he gives, Muslims are the primary actors.

A   likely-atheist    European draws a cartoon of Mohammed  --   the Muslim world goes up in flames.    Embassies are burned, people murdered, flags torched, riots from dusk to dawn.

An atheist artist puts a crucifix in a jar of his own urine.    The Christian world    responds with stern condemnations and some charity pot lucks.

The Muslim world sees the burning of churches and synagogues, the murder of      "infidels"    and "apostates,"      the denial of past genocides and the encouragement of future ones,    and    the destruction of    monuments of immense historical significance    as justified      and viable responses to    a pen and ink drawing.

There's no equivalency there.

253 I wonder if Obama has figured out yet that everything he thought was true about international relations is wrong? Why do you think Barky ever intended anything other than what he's been doing since he slimed into office? He was never looking to serve American interests but to harm us. He's been totally consistent in this, from his fucking over of Poland and the Czechs when he first slimed into office, through his World Traitor Tour and on to today. barky has never wanted to do anything but fuck America over and that's exactly what he's been doing. There was nothing for him to "figure out". barky never had any good intentions for America. Quite the opposite. Why would anyone even ask a question presupposing that barky is looking to serve American interests, at all, when every single bit of evidence is diametrically opposed to that?

255 Did y'all see this piece about Obama's Saudi patronage? http://bit.ly/Q1OmgL Most of us had already heard about al-Mansour and his role in Obama's Harvard degree -- but click on the last link in the article, and you will see something that will blow your mind: http://bit.ly/SrVV5C The article is from 1979, it's by Vernon Jarrett, father-in-law of Valerie Jarrett. He shows (approvingly) how al-Mansour is the link between the Black Muslims and the Saudis. You read this article, and bear in mind that Valerie Jarrett is reported by many insiders to be "the most powerful person in the White House" ---- and it all begins to make sense. If we somehow defeat these b@stards, there's a whole bunch of 'em that need to be put on trial for treason -- on the level of the Nuremberg trials. Hang these traitors!

259 http://tinyurl.com/9y2ldnw Bringing up the failures of Evil Overlord's foreign policy is a good idea, and mainly because of the Pew polls showing he has managed to make America sink below the dreaded George W. Bush era. Hard to fathom considering the Libtards pounding us daily for 8 years that America was viewed so badly under Bush. So, not only have we arrived at 18 on the scale of economic freedom, under Qatar, but we are more hated globally than under Bush. However, the linky deal above is an interesting read regarding swing states and Catholic voters. If you do not have the time to read the historical parts, do skip down to the comparison contrast regarding 2008 and 2010, and trends. The guy put in some hard work compiling all this data, and I found it interesting considering what we are told daily by the MFM, and even the weaklings like Noonan, and Kristol. The only thing I would add to the Catholic data, or how we will win these swing states is the defecting Jewish voters, and the Reagan Democrats. If you add these two voting blocks plus, angry Black voters, females going Romney, and the military support for Romney, it does not point to a Romney loss. Not in the slightest.

The only way to fight it would be to have someone in your ear or an ipad onstage with you where you could be fed instant research from your team.  The press would be fine with it if Obama did such a thing --- but Romney would be accused of cheating.

300 Gentlemen and ladies: did Romney look bad or 'tarded in any debates with his fellow Republicans? He was just patient and waiting for them all to speak, then he went for the jugular in a quiet and deadly manner. He is a very smart man, He knows his facts. He knows his stats. He has, for heaven's sake, Paul Ryan, teaching him more stats. He is practicing while the jug-eared jackass is smoking stuff, basking in the glow in thinking he is "eye candy" and, now, his UN Trip which has him all glowy and happy with himself. If you are playing defense you win. He will be caught in his usual spastic, pigeon-toed, light-footed stance. He will have help with the refs (moderators). Do you not think Romney knows this?

If the stupid press would show him at campaign stops, you would see Romney is not McCain. He is not going down easily. He may be a nice man, but he is a winner. He is not afraid of the BS thrown in 2008.

And, Ace, nothing is worth hanging yourself over, especially politics. Yes, I know you are kidding, but have to think of all of those depressed Palm Beach Kerry fans who ended up running to therapy after 2004. It is politics. While I do believe this IS the election of our lifetimes, and I believe we will win....I also believe if we don't we continue to fight. We mourn for a day and then the fight begins again. Always remember Pelosi saying they would keep the House in 2010. Remember Reagan. Remember D-Day. Remember Flutie (ok, just threw that in for the heck of it). Stay positive. Stay strong. Do not let the MSM's message and the polls give you a feeling of defeat, as that is exactly what they want. When I see a poll I roll my eyes and do not read (unless it is the one here showing how skewed they are).

Join me in my foxhole. I will never, ever give up, no matter how many Occupy turds float on the top of sewers in San Francisco. I don't care. We will win.

302 Romney walks out on stage wearing a suit of armor, smacks Obama over the head with a rubber chicken, and then walks off. ABSOLUTE WIN FOR THE ROMNEY! Junior high school, I think I'll run for some council position. My dad was a Republican Nat'l Committeeman. I've got pictures of him with Nixon, of Dad and Mom with Ike and Mamie, of me with Goldwater. Later, Dad would get a whole chapter of praise and gratitude in the autobiography of the state's first Republican governor. So I think he knows his stuff, so I ask dad what I should do for my speech. He just says something like, be sincere, be yourself. It was really always Mom who helped me with my homework. Come the speeches, I nervously stammer out some bland forgettable blather, to a response of less-than-crickets. After I sit down with face as burning as it had ever been, along comes Popular Kid, and he tells jokes and says thing like he'll run a "clean campaign" and throws little hotel bars of soap at the audience, who roar with laughter. Very enlightening, politically. (Don't recall that I ever really got to talk to Dad about that experience. He's gone, forty-five years come January.) And that was the end of my political career. I went into the "business" of making posters for others, which I carried on doing through high school. And today (click nic). But the point is: 1. Romney would make a suit of armor look good. 2. The rubber chicken should be wet. 3. The walk off should be slow and deliberate. 4. WIN!
