— Slublog In the red, or hitting the panic button?
President Barack Obama's campaign spent more than it took in over the month of May despite his frenetic fundraising schedule, leaving the massive operation with just shy of $110 million dollars cash on hand against $115 million one month earlier. As JammieWF notes, the campaign that wildly outspent the GOP in 2008 is using this as an opportunity to play the victim card and whine about conservative Super PACs again:The embattled incumbent scooped up a hair over $39 million dollars but spent nearly $44.6 million, according to a formal filing with the Federal Election Commission. A more detailed breakdown can be found here.

This is bad because conservative Super PAC money is a threat to democracy! Negative ads should never be paid for by third-party donors with legal donations. Democracy can only survive when negative ads are purchased with unverified credit card donations, some of which may have illegally come from non-citizens.
Aside from enjoying the schadenbonery goodness of this, there are two things we can take away from the story: 1) Obama is now having to build and maintain a large paid network this year, meaning he's spending money for people to do work that was done willingly by enthusiastic volunteers four years ago and 2) The Obama campaign is much more worried about fundraising than they're letting on and feel the need to instill some panic into their donor base this early. Either way, this news and the Obama campaign response is another sign that this isn't 2008 and Mitt Romney is no John McCain.

Ahhhhhhhh...that was nice. Remember when June was already a terrible month for teh Won last week? Now he's on the hook for FnF, and Drudge is hinting screaming that a big decision from the Supremes is coming tomorrow. June got real bad for team O today, and tomorrow looks like it has a chance to get worse, depending on if the rumor is true and the SC goes against the Precedent.

The last two weeks on the NBC Washington affilate, Obumble has been running a "truth about Romneyeconomics" ad three or four times each evening in the 600-700 pm local news hour. It alternates with a Planned parenthood Romney- will- bring - back- coat- hangars ad. I swear I'm gonna throw a brick through the TV.

I'd sooner send $$ to a Nigerian prince than this campaign. I'd at least get a better return on it, 'cause the Nigerian prince wouldn't give it to a bunch of groups that would waste it and screw my country in the process. At least he'd keep it for himself.

He might have done this, you know. I am always optimistic.
Because, what are the Obama people going to do? File a complaint that those verification numbers were now being required? Complain that their foreign donors couldn't access the site?
Of course, this could all be my imagination.

I quoted those two paragraphs like three hours ago as a HA HA moment, so all hail to me.
But it's also funny that the guy who does $40,000 a guest fundraisers with Sarah Jessica Flicker has his flacks talking about how "our average donation is $55." A whole bunch of idiots donate three bucks for a chance at dinner with King Bogey and the rich... aw, who cares. After decades of this crap coming from the Brilliantees in Wah DC, we're probably totally boned. Sure hope cat tastes good.

kind of off topic but interesting (quoted by Althouse):
“I treat assertions of executive privilege very seriously, and I believe they should be used only sparingly,” said Representative Elijah E. Cummings of Maryland, the panel's ranking Democrat. “In this case, it seems clear that the administration was forced into this position by the committee’s unreasonable insistence on pressing forward with contempt despite the attorney general’s good faith offer.”
Imagine the NY Times and WaPo reacting to a Repub on the 1973 Watergate committee saying anything like this.
and yes, in 86 I meant to say "toilet paper"... long day. I was first at 7 am this morning, so there.

I predict that Ol Big Ears money raising is going to continue to go down. Next month will be worse and the month after that will be even worse still.
They have already held a bunch of Big Money fund raisers. And they have hit up all the Holleywood Types once or twice already. There are only so many $40K donors out there, and they have all already given once or twice. The well is rapidly running dry on them. Expect to see a lot more $3 raffle BS.
