— Ace Oh?
He did nine fundraisers in the four days prior to the election, in total Obama hit 13 fundraisers in the 14 days leading up to BarrettÂ’s drubbing by Scott Walker.
I think it's a little worse than that. Obama actually flew over Wisconsin to go from an a Minnesota fundraiser to attend a Chicago fundraiser.
According to ABC NewsÂ’ Political Punch, the presidentÂ’s other Minnesota fundraisers did not allow press; one had 20 people paying $40,000 each for a roundtable discussion with the president, and the other had 10 people paying $50,000 each for a similar discussion. The president then flew over Wisconsin on Air Force One for three fundraisers in Chicago. Estimates are that the president raised $1.8 million in Minnesota and $5 million in Chicago.
He actually flew over Wisconsin twice, avoiding it both times, in the crucial last days of the recall. At one point, when on the ground, he was 15 miles away from the border of Wisconsin -- no quickie rally?
I guess Wisconsin's airports and helipads and highways were also too busy.
I never know how much to make of a lie like this, because it's an obligatory lie. Most people would mumble something like this rather than tell the strict truth.
And yet, it's still a lie. Or maybe just call it "bullshit." Maybe that's the right term.
He does bullshit an awful lot.
Didn't we used to call him "Captain Bullshit"?
Ah yes, we did.

I forget who did that, but it was probably @slublog.

This was a no win situation of Obama's own making. IF he showed up and Barret lost it would reflect poorly on Obama's ability to sway voters. If Barret had been looking like a winner, Obama could have dropped in for a cameo and taken credit for the victory. But he knew the polls were indicating Barrat wouldn't win and if he did show up before Barret lost he would have to take part of the blame. Now he has to explain why he didn't have time to weigh in on the recall and his only excuse is that he was busy when in fact he was attending his own fundraisers?
Hoy vey!

Jeffrey, who has a 4.25 cumulative grade-point average, applied for 27 scholarships and won three others in addition to the award from the Martin Luther King Senior Citizens Club, which only specified that African Americans were “encouraged to apply,” the newspaper reported. School counselors were informed that the scholarship was for black students.
The club intends to change the language on next yearÂ’s application to clarify who is eligible, according to the Press-Enterprise.
The returned scholarship was later awarded to an African-American girl at King High School.

Friday night Obama talked about how happy he was to be sleeping in his own home in his own bed. Then he talked about how he was looking forward to making breakfast in his kitchen Saturday morning. Then on Saturday a reporter asked him about what he had made for breakfast and Obama said that he had slept in late, and hadn't cooked breakfast after all.
So he slept in on the Saturday before the biggest union election in American history. Too busy.

Full quote from the WBAY Action 2 News:
Smith: I'd like to ask you about Wisconsin's recall election. There are a lot of Democrats that are upset you didn't campaign for Tom Barrett.
President Obama: The truth of the matter is that as POTUS, I've got a lot of responsibilities. I was supportive of Tom and have been supportive of Tom. Obviously, I would have loved to see a different result.
But the broader principle is that we want an economy that is not focused on a few at the top but is a broad-based economy that invests in our future, that makes sure we've got a strong education system that is thinking about workers and their ability to pay their bills, is something in everything I do. Shows those are values I care about deeply.
And we're going to be fighting very hard in Wisconsin, just like we have in the past, to make sure that's the kind of government people get.

But HE can't understand that when he creates the perception that he's too cowardly to risk his political capital on behalf of his allies, he devalues that political capital to the point of worthlessness. Capital only has value when it's invested, and that implies risk: avoiding all risk neutralizes the power of capital.

6/2/2012
After your pool held in vans in the PresidentÂ’s Chicago neighborhood for about 90 minutes Saturday morning, Mr. Obama went out for a stroll of about four blocks to the home of his friend, Martin Nesbitt, in the Hyde Park/Kenwood section of the city.
The president walked into your poolersÂ’ view at 11:47 a.m. Central time at 49th Street and South Woodlawn Ave., strolling with senior adviser Valerie Jarrett. He was wearing tan slacks and a white, open-collared shirt with sleeves rolled up. Ms. Jarrett wore a knee-length, navy dress. They were trailed closely by an agent.

Seriously, liberal leaders, especially, must be perfect human beings.
What should Obama have done? Shut up, that's what. Only the delusional moonbats thought they had a chance with this recall. I wouldn't be surprised if Barrett told Obama to stay out of the state.
But he can't. He can't just say nothing and let it be forgotten, he has to have an excuse, he has to be perfect.
I am reminded of Billy Dale. When the Clintons took office, they wanted to fire the head of the White House Travel Office, a long-time civil servant named Billy Dale. Billy's position was nominally a political patronage position, but he was appointed by Kennedy and no president had any cronies who wanted that job. The Travel Office arranged travel for those accompanying the president, though not the president himself.
The Clintons, though, had long-time donors who wanted that job. Now, even though they could have just fired him, and would give Republicans a minor scandal about the mean Clintons firing a sweet old man beloved by the White House Press Corps, they decided not to.
Instead they trumped up corruption charges against Dale. It finally took the Republican Congress, elected in 1994, to pay him his legal expenses for the long ordeal. In the meantime, the Clintons never admitted wrongdoing.
In the long run, even though they never admitted guilt, it was a major scandal for the Clintons and an embarrassment to the Democrats. And all because they must be without sin. This is a major weakness inherent to the Left and one we need to exploit.

He even botched THAT feeble victory. The only seat of the four that they won is being redistricted in the next election and will be a solid R district. The legislature is in recess till after November and won't even meet till January of 2013. Meanwhile, come November the Republicans are probably going to gain 2-3 seats in the Senate, making a strong majority once again by the time they come back to Madison.
So basically the unions spent 80 million dollars to rent a seat in an empty chamber for 5 months till the R's take control again

Obama doesn't believe in risk/reward ratios. He has never risked anything of his own. He thinks that taxpayers should shoulder all of the risk. Even of his own political capital.

Here is the scary thing, using data pulled from the actual results of the election instead of the flaky exit polls:
Had Barrett won Dane and Milwaukee by Obama's margins...
He still would have lost by over 72,000 votes.
The rest of the state has turned rabidly against Barrett, the unions and their ilk. The western "blue wall" in the state stretching from Eau Claire Co down to the Illinois border disintegrated almost entirely in the recall with Barrett carrying just 6 counties out of the region, one which had given Gore, Kerry, Obama, and Clinton solid victories.
Looking at the actual hard numbers from the election, if Republicans keep up their enthusiasm in the rest of the state, no amount of busing or stuffing in the two biggest counties would be enough to keep the state blue for Obama.
If the unions couldn't do it with the national spotlight on them, with the largest turnout for a non-Prez election in Dane/Milwaukee... how the hell does Obama expect to?
Do the math yourself and tell me where the votes "show up". Their voters already did, and there weren't enough of them.

The TravelGate thing was even worse than AmishDude elaborated.
It wasn't just about firing Billy Dale...
The Clintons wanted all WH travel to be funneled through a travel company in Little Rock....as political payback, and to get some of the 'take' backdoored back into their own coffers.
All of the 'travel expenses' were inflated....and we the taxpayers were hosed in that deal.

Sandy, they did show up.
That is why Wisconsin is being swept under the rug.
The Democrats showed up like hell in Dane and Milwaukee. Even if they had presidential-level turnout in their core counties against Walker...it would not have been close to enough to steal it. There really are only so many voters. Even dead ones. The real story out of Tuesday night is that the Blue/Red split of the state has lurched towards the GOP. Look at Brown County. Fon Du Lac. Waukesha. Door. Marathon. St Croix. Eau Claire for Christ's sakes.

This is true. Wisconsin only has three main population centers. Everything else is very much small town/rural. Republicans now lead in number of voters in two of those population centers. And they pretty much own the rural areas except for the Indian reservations and border counties.

Posted by: sandy burger at June 11, 2012 07:41 PM (k0pNf)
WE shouldn't be worried.
Wisconsin is Obama's state to lose.
We are on the offensive here to flip states away from the President. None of these states that went to him are 'ours' in any sense other than when we have flipped them.
It is Obama who needs to worry about Wisconsin. And Ohio. And Florida. And North Carolina, Indiana, NE2, Michigan, Iowa, Nevada, Colorado, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, ME2...
The downside to winning big, is when the tide turns against you you face death by a thousand cuts. Keep those cracks in his "wall" open and he won't have much left to save him in November.

I'm not so knowledgeable about the rest of the details (I didn't think taxpayers would be on the hook so much as the media outlets), but the Billy Dale thing was an example to me of this larger tendency Dems have to want to be perfect.
There are other examples of corruption and back-scratching.

One exception is that Wisconsin lets students who have lived here for the 28 days prior to the election vote. So out of state students who enroll in September can theoretically vote in Wisconsin as well as by absentee in their home state. It's hard to control that kind of fraud.

At this point, it appears that even if we do absolutely nothing, his campaign will implode.
I'd guess that some of the bizarre incompetence we're seeing is due to an internal culture of blame and fear, where every setback results in finger-pointing and recrimination. Organizations which get stuck in those dynamics have a hard time adapting to change. Based on what we're seeing, I bet there is some real personal nastiness going on behind closed doors. The tell-alls later should be funny.

What you will start to see is a fractured "message" as every little person in the campaign and in the MSM, convinced that Axelrod, et al. are doing it wrong. They'll try to "help" and it'll be a complete disaster. Honestly, I can't wait.

Here is a letter that has been making the rounds in Wisconsin after Scott Walkers victory:
Letter from a WI Taxpayer (I did not write this but I like it Letter to the Left. To all leftists, occupiers, union thugs and
malcontents,
Thank you! What an election! We couldn't have done it without you.Without your tantrums, outbursts and boorish behavior we might have stayed home for this election. Without your filthy, pot smoking hemp -headed minions occupying, dirtying and damaging our Capitol we mighthave been complacent. Without your obnoxious protests, boycotts and other actions from your union playbook, we might have sat this one out.But you couldn't hold back. You couldn't restrain yourselves and behave like adults. You couldn't accept the 2010 election results.
We sat and watched as you erupted in a juvenile hissy fit that embarrassed Wisconsin. The spectacle you created is what motivated us. And thanks to yourpathetic behavior, we won. We turned out. Big time! And now we are organized and energized. Committed. "All in". And we aren't going away.We now have our own organizations (no dues required), an army of volunteers and the means to communicate. And countless new sources of funding, including a donor base from all 50 states. And we have "iverifytherecall" to ferret out your infiltrators in our future local elections. So thank you little boy Tate, Graeme Zielinski, Fred "Loonie" Levenhagen,Ismael Ozanne, Maryanne Sumi, Noble Ray, Charles Tubbs, JoanneKloppenberg, Segway Boy, John Chisolm, public employee union members,UW TA's, WEAC, SEIU, MTI, AFSCME Council 24 in Union Grove and WIprison guards,. Thanks for the death threats, the intimidation, the bullying, belligerence, thuggery and goonish behavior. The lack of ethics and thefailure to enforce rules and laws. Thank you for putting your selfish, greedy motives on display for all taxpayers to see.
Your antics might have made you feel good but they didn't make you look good. They sickened the rest of us.Thank you Shirley Abrahamson and Ann Walsh Bradley. Your petty politicswoke us up. Thanks you Miles Kristan for dumping the beer on Robin Vos's head. Thank you University doctors for writing the phony excuses; Madisonteachers for calling in sick or dragging your students to the protestswithout permission. Thank you Katherine Windels for making death threatsagainst the Governor. The noontime capitol singers who tauntedSheboygan high school students.
Thank you WEA Trust for rapingWisconsin taxpayers. Thank you Gwen Moore for your embarrassingminstrel show. And thanks all of you for harassing the Walker family attheir private home. You have all been exposed. Your tactics have been rejected. Your badbehavior has been forever captured on You Tube.Thank you Peter Barca and fellow Assembly members for donning yourfoolish orange T-shirts and screaming "shame" at legislators just doingtheir jobs.Thank you Mark Miller and all 14 senators for fleeing the state and makingfools of yourselves in the process. Your combination of childishness and ignorance fits in very well in Illinois. IÂ’m sure you felt right at home.
Thanks for showing us what democracy doesn't look like. And Mayor Barrett. How grateful we are that you chose one low road after another in your issue-less campaign against the Governor. This was yourstrike three. You are out. Take a seat on the bench and stay there. I havea hunch this was your final at-bat. All of you helped turn Wisconsin permanently red. Your Governor, ScottWalker, will not just complete his first term, he is all but assured as manyfuture terms as he seeks. He will be your governor for a long, long time.Get used to it. And his national "rock star" status just might lead him to beyour President some day. Just think, it couldn't have happened withoutyou! So to all of you blue fisters, thank you from the bottom of my happy, red heart.
Sincerely, A Wisconsin taxpayer
