Obama: No Presidential Intelligence Breifings The Week Before The Attacks
— Ace

Sure, why would anyone think there might be some violence on 9/11?

By the way: In Bengazi, a staffer wrote (in an online gaming forum; he was an EVE player)...

"(12:54:09 PM) vile_rat: assuming we don't die tonight. We saw one of our 'police' that guard the compound taking pictures."

It seems the embassy staff knew something was coming -- why was Obama not doing something about this? Such as... evacuating the staff? Sending in Marines?

Intelligence ignored? Straight from the mouth of an embassy staffer looking right at the guy casing the compound?

On 9/11?

Additionally, the US was warned that extremists might attempt to burn down the embassy. On Monday.

According to El Fagr, they are calling for the immediate release of the Islamic jihadis who are imprisonment and in detention centers in the U.S. including Guantanamo Bay: “The group, which consists of many members from al-Qaeda, called [especially] for the quick release of the jihadi [mujahid] sheikh, Omar Abdul Rahman [the "Blind Sheikh"], whom they described as a scholar and jihadi who sacrificed his life for the Egyptian Umma, who was ignored by the Mubarak regime, and [President] Morsi is refusing to intervene on his behalf and release him, despite promising that he would. The Islamic Group has threatened to burn the U.S. Embassy in Cairo with those in it, and taking hostage those who remain [alive], unless the Blind Sheikh is immediately released.”

This explains why they had, in this case, evacuated most of the staff. What it doesn't explain is why the administration was otherwise so flat-footed -- including in Benghazi.

Libya Attack Pre-Planned, Coordinated With Muslim Brotherhood: So claims one report.

It sure does look that way.

But the important story here isn't what Obama failed to do to forestall the attacks, but what Romney said in response to his failure.

Right?

Muslim Brotherhood Calls For Worldwide Attacks: They say "protests." They mean attacks.

Tick Tock: So, some precautions were taken -- the embassy was moved to a safehouse.

Problem is, that was also compromised. Likely by our allies, the Freedom Fighters of Libya.

CNN Report On Coordinated Muslim Brotherhood Attack: Here.

13 So...when a presidential candidate (Mitt Romney) acts presidential, in The Won's eyes and the liberal media echo, it is "unprecedented?"

Not per Rush: President Reagan did the same thing during the Iran hostage situation with Carter.

Too bad, libs, that you enjoy being perceived by the world as weak. Tough patootie.

18 Glad you posted this ace was just about to mention this. BreitbartÂ’s Wynton Hall took at look at President ObamaÂ’s public schedule for the week leading up to the attacks on the US in Egypt and Libya. During that entire week, Obama made numerous campaign appearances and attended his partyÂ’s convention in Charlotte, NC. But according to his schedule, he never attended a single Presidential Daily Briefing during that week.

A senior U.S. official tells CNN that U.S. unmanned surveillance drones are expected to begin flying over Benghazai and other locations in eastern Libya to look for jihadi encampments and targets that may be tied to the attack on U.S. State Department personnel.

The proposal for use of drones is expected to be approved shortly by the Pentagon and the White House, CNN's Pentagon Correspondent Barbara Starr reported. The official said the plan is for U.S. surveillance drones to gather the intelligence and then hand it off to the Libyans to strike the targets.

Romney needs to highlight this.  Even before this came out there was a story that Obama hadn't attended half of the intelligence briefings during his presidency.

There was nothing wrong with Romney's response to the situation in Egypt.  Nor was there anything wrong with the press asking him about it - except for the fact that this same press will never ask the same questions of SCOAMF.

All people really want sometimes is just to know that you're paying attention.

The more of this that comes out the worse it is for O. This cannot be spun. They were trying the national securty angle to win parts of Colorado, NC, and VA. Not anymore. On a national level this is a disgrace, and it is only going to get worse. If O does not claim personal responsibility for the intelligence and process failures by the weekend, he's going to get savaged. For the vast majority of us not following this, he's going to have a lot to answer for in the foreign policy debate that a lot of us are going to see. This could be almost as bad as the failed hostage rescue. At least none of the hostages died in that one.

California-born ambassador Christopher Stevens was killed in the assault, but it was not clear how or where he died. U.S. consular staff were rushed to a safe house after the initial attack, Libya's Deputy Interior Minister Wanis Al-Sharif said.

An evacuation plane with U.S. commandos units then arrived from Tripoli to evacuate them from the house.

"It was supposed to be a secret place and we were surprised the armed groups knew about it. There was shooting," Sharif said. Two U.S. personnel were killed there, he said. Two other people were killed at the main consular building and between 12 and 17 wounded.

Minnesota U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison the first Muslim elected to Congress, said he was "deeply disturbed" by the riots in Libya and Egypt and called the deaths of U.S. Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens and three others a "tragic loss.

As for the film that sparked the protests, he called it "amateurish and stupid" and not indicative of American sentiments toward Islam.

"Hateful provocateurs will always try to stir the pot, but itÂ’s up to us to remain calm and not let it boil over," Ellison said. "Now innocent public servants who dedicated their lives to building bridges between people are dead. What we need is more understanding and tolerance, not conflict and bloodshed."

Having said that: The President has created an atmosphere where people overseas are emboldened to attack our embassies. The State Department's reaction is to apologize; the White House's, to distance themselves and say, 'They weren't speaking for us' about people who are paid to speak for them. It's a mess. It's a mess that, mishandled, makes the world a more dangerous place. And the idea that his opponent should not make good-faith criticisms, because we speak with one voice when it comes to foreign policy, is absurd. The administration itself speaks with more than one voice!

Re "the water's edge" Romney handled it properly - he clarified his support (unnecessarily but for the hostile press, of course) and told us how he'd do things differently.  Most importantly, his policy was the right one.  There's a huge difference between advocating a strong American response (Romney vs. Obama, Reagan v. Carter) and kowtowing to dictators against your own country's interests (Bonoir-Ortega, Dellums-Castro, Pelosi-Assad).

158 From CNN: The attack on the U.S. Consulate in Libya that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens was planned by attackers who used the protest outside the consulate as a diversion, U.S. sources say. The sources could not say whether the attackers instigated the protest or merely took advantage of it, and they say they don't believe Stevens was specifically targeted. Stevens and three other Americans suffocated trying to escape a fire after a grenade was thrown into the building, a senior U.S. official said. London terror analysts speculated that Stevens was the victim of a targeted al Qaeda revenge attack. The assault "came to avenge the death of Abu Yaya al-Libi, al Qaeda's second in command killed a few months ago," the analysts said.

181 Mr. Pink, #152: "This is what you want your politicians talking about. Not holding fucking hearings on steroids in baseball." I was unclear. I didn't mean that Romney is playing gotcha games by doing what he is. What I meant is that I could imagine ways of criticizing the President that would make even me say, Hey, that's a cheap shot. Romney has not engaged in these; I think his criticisms are spot-on and appropriate. I meant to criticize the left for arguing that the fact itself of Romney's criticism is inappropriate.

"It was "the work of roughly 20 militants, prepared for a military assault," the think tank said, noting that rocket-propelled grenade launchers do not normally appear at peaceful protests, and that there were no other protests against the film elsewhere in Libya."

Grenade launchers don't normally appear at peaceful protests? Huh? I did not know that.

"A grenade attack created a fire in the U.S. consulate building in Benghazi, which created a very complicated and complex situation for those inside, according to a senior U.S. official familiar with the details of what happened."

"What happened at the U.S. embassy in Cairo is regrettable and rejected by all Egyptian people and cannot be justified, especially if we consider that the people who produced this low film have no relation to the (U.S.) government," Prime Minister Hisham Kandil said, reading out a statement.

He said the intervention came as the demonstrators, estimated to number 300, started to try to break through the gates of the embassy compound after having demonstrated peacefully for several hours outside.

I read a book about Blackwater that one of my family members had given me which by and large was trying to make a case about how awful they are. One chapter was trying to make a point about an incident where Blackwater broke the chain of command by issuing orders to marines at a diplomatic site.

Almost certainly bullshit that.

What the author missed in trying to make that point was the story he told of two Blackwater guys and a half dozen marines holding the fort against a mob of thousands. Apparently the Sadr guys just kept coming in waves.

That may well be bullshit, too, but it was pretty clear the author wasn't trying to talk up the martial prowess of anyone involved.

No, Obama is not expected to follow the EVE forums. Is it your honest contention that the employees facing that situation limited their communications to online gaming forums? The fact that it was posted on an EVE forum gives us the public a sense of what information government did have. Obama's failure to receive intelligence briefings was negligent. Whether that negligence led to what happened, we don't yet know. We do know they didn't do anything to stop what happened.

422 395 What did Truman do?
...
Not all that glitters is gold.

During his own administration (beyond what he inherited from FDR's death), Truman dragged the under dressed US Military troops into Korea to play the UN/NATO domino theory game, and fired MacArthur for promoting an aggressive war plan that included an exit strategy. The CinC would not permit arguing against his fallacy before tragedy played out at our horrible experience.

Truman lost re-election because Ike promised Americans the exit strategy, removing US support from the UN directed war, to "end" the Korean War and  to direct our tax dollars towards modernizing the US infrastructure of highways, utilities and energy resources that included "clean nuclear energy" alongside drilling US oil reserves.

Who else remembers the Ike administration's newsreels shown in public school classrooms, of a smiling illustration of a nuclear power plant while the all-knowing voice assured safety?

I'd rather take Ike's lead than what Truman's party has ironically advanced, Marxists ruling the USA, destabilizing the world through global revolutions. Don't designate the Taft and Goldwater Republican contingency of grass roots as unpatriotic idiots today "deserving no vote" within the Republican Party that usurped party convention rules, converted into Pelosi-Reid "Shared Values" of lawlessness to permeate the GOP from above.

Ike kept his campaign pledge. Ike stopped the US involvement supporting the UN Korean War with a cease fire that empowers South Korea as a sovereign nation. That was then, this is now. And Mitt is no Ike. But the 2012 ballot? May Obama's unprecedented mold be electorally removed from power and never return.

429 Obama's probably had umpteen campaign meetings in the last week, some with donors, some with consultants, some with unions, some with greens, some with whoever...  Go figure, he's not had time for any meetings about jobs, the economy, foreign issues, balancing a budget or much of anything else.   Meanwhile, he's doing all he can do to buy other people's votes with billions, if not trillions, of future generation's money.

Romney, on the other hand, isn't in office.   Nor does het have the press licking his boot steps, he can buy votes for  November's election with future generations money, ...

Kind of sort of makes the case that you shouldn't be able to run for office while holding an office.  Neither Obama or McCain would likely be running for President in 08 with such a rule.   Nor would the Senate be lead by some clown who can't put forth a budget, etc, etc.

Historically, Jefferson made a similar argument, way back when...
