Obama: Raise Tax On The Rich....For the (Murdered) Children
— DrewM

The pathetic little man the American people have seen fit to elect President twice just wrapped up a press conference. The purpose of the event was to announce Joe Biden will head up a task force on what steps should be taken in the wake of the Newtown massacre. Most of the questions however focused on the "fiscal cliff".

Obama then when went where no decent human being would. He tied his tax proposals to the deaths of 20 innocent children.

It is a deal that can get done, but it is not going to be -- it cannot be done if every side wants 100 percent. And part of what voters were looking for is some compromise up here. ThatÂ’s what -- thatÂ’s what folks want.

They understand that theyÂ’re not going to get 100 percent of what they want. And for some reason, that message has not yet taken up on Capitol Hill. And when you think about what weÂ’ve gone through over the last couple of months -- a devastating hurricane, and now one of the worst tragedies in our memory, the country deserves folks to be willing to compromise on behalf of the greater good and not tangle themselves up in a whole bunch of ideological positions that donÂ’t make much sense.

Obama is forever pretending to be Mr. Middle of the Road, the one person willing to put his ideology aside. It's always the evil Republicans who bitterly cling to their positions. Why Republicans are so mean that not even 20 dead children will change their mind about tax rates, entitlement reform and deficit reduction.

Disgusting.

In more traditional news, Obama says Boehner's Plan B is a non-starter because raising taxes on millionaires is really a tax cut for them and a tax hike on the middle class.

The speaker is now proposing what he calls Plan B. So he says, “Well, this would raise taxes only on folks making $1 million or more.” What that means is, an average of a $50,000 tax break for every millionaire out there. At the same time as we’re not providing unemployment insurance for 2 million people who are still out there looking for work. It actually means a tax increase for millions of working families across the country, at the same time as folks like me would be getting a tax break.

Why negotiate with someone who is living in an alternate universe? Just pass Plan B and go home for the holidays. The GOP is going to get slammed no matter what so do what you think is best and let Obama do what he wants.

Speaking of Plan B....Grover Norquist is cool with it. So there's that. Or something.

It's going to be a very long 4 years.

8 Yeah, enough posturing already.
The longer this goes on, the more likely a BAD deal will be struck.
Time to strap on the parachutes and dive over the cliff.
Let the House pass something, and then let the Senate respond.
That's how it works.

26 "Why negotiate with someone who is living in an alternate universe? Just pass Plan B and go home for the holidays."

Don't pass a damned thing. Nothing.

Every single GOP officeholder has to have their spiel down pat. Which will be:

"We are simply allowing President Obama's previous plan to take full effect. The tax increases and spending cutbacks which take effect in January were signed into law by President Obama. Again, the tax increases and spending cutbacks are ones which were signed into law by President Obama. If Americans are troubled by this, they should direct their complaints to President Obama, The White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, D.C., 20500."

Plan B has already been passed by the Senate. If the house passes it "as is" this session, it gets shoveled to the President for Veto or Signature. At this point though they would have to keep the house and senate in session for 10 days to avoid pocket veto.

30 Still in Bizarro world, I see. All Republicans have to do to achieve a trillion dollar spending cut is... nothing. Even the president's plan contains hundreds of billions in cuts. Meanwhile Tweedle dum and Tweedle dummer are trying to rally votes in both chambers to raise taxes without cutting spending. I'm beginning to think the sooner these knuckleheads head home for the holidays, the better.

I was wondering about sort of the same thing. Suppose this massacre had happened in Iowa or in Idaho. The MFM would have covered it for a day or two. But would they still be talking about it 24/7. It's one thing to send a reporter to CT. But Idaho? In winter? Meh. And besides the dead kids were just future right wing Tea Party zealots anyway.

Look at weather events. A little rain falls within 50 miles of NYC or DC it's doomsday. 4 ft of snow fall in Colorado or Utah it barely makes it as a story on The Weather Channel.

Well Jiminy Christmas, Obammy-man!   If raising taxes on those who make more than $1 million would hike up taxes on working families, then what would taxing everyone who makes more than $250,000/year do to them!?!      Aren't you all for raising THEIR taxes because they should pay their fair share?  But if millionaires are PART of the "more than $250K/year" set, then how can taxing JUST them for more money be a BAD thing?

51 Couple of timely reminders, that I bring up now and again.

All NCAA national championship teams get invited to the White House.
When TFG was introduced to the all-woman TCU Rifle team, first he was unaware naturally that rifle was an NCAA sport (even though Punahou has a range), and then he told them that he practices regularly with a military rifle with the Secret Service at Quantico. He said that. To a smallbore team.

His "beneath the radar point man on gun policy" is Univ of Mich law professor Steven Croley, whose name vanished from, well, the radar, immediately after a positively drooling WaPo fanboi intro that mentioned the jut of his jaw, his sttely crewcut, and the color of his eyes. No one nears a word from him, or about him.  So, watch for his name. Sooner or later, we'll have to have a talk.

56 So we're back to playing the $250K a year = millionaire and billionaire game huh?

Why is it so hard for a Republican to go on TV on Meet the Press, CNN, whatever and say we are OK with raising taxes on millionaires and billionaires. But someone making $250K a year IS NOT A FUCKING MILLIONAIRE OR BILLIONAIRE. And then repeat this every day 10 times a day.

This is a slam dunk and even the most illiterate low info voter would understand and agree with. Republicans have learned nothing from the past 4 years. Obama gets his way because he frames debates in simple terms. Republicans lose debates because they get drawn into the weeds and most people glaze over the arguments. This is yet another example.

62 Or, if something MUST be passed, do this:

-- Hold a press conference on the sidewalk outside the White House

-- Say that the GOP is done with privately negotiating with the Democrats because the Democrats have proven themselves not to be trustworthy counterparties

-- Say that all further negotiations will take place in full daylight, in public, with maximum transparency

-- Begin negotiations by telling Obama/Reid/Pelosi to put on the table a hard dollar figure in how much additional tax they want from "millionaires"

-- Make it clear nothing will happen until this hard figure is provided in public

-- Once the figure is in hand, sit down and figure out a way to not only reach but exceed that figure

-- Skew the required taxation hugely towards screwing blue millionaires, via means such as repealing state income tax deductions and closing the tax loopholes used by the likes of Google

-- Tell the public, again in a public press conference, that "we asked the President for an acceptable number on taxes for the rich, and we not only gave him his number but we exceeded it, the ball is in his court now"

-- Dare him to sign the bill

This would make it awfully hard for the Dems to claim that the GOP are supposedly "protecting the 1%".

The People who work in Media and Academia are the enemies of this nation, and they need to be made unemployed.  Alternate Media is slowly choking the life out of mainstream media (All Liberal Democrats Hired in New York City (Obama 79% in 200 and who then join a Union.) and efforts to lower college tuition costs (such as Texas' effort to make a $10,000.00 degree program) will eventually choke the life out of Liberal Asshats in Academia.  That's the good news.

The bad news is that before these efforts will bear their ultimate fruit, the United States will have already suffered a devastating and deadly financial collapse.

112 "Suppose this massacre had happened in Iowa or in Idaho. The MFM would have covered it for a day or two."

Yep. Lily-white high-income small towns in Connecticut are stuffed full of New York City media mavens (who may work amidst the city's "diversity" but seem to dislike living amidst it). They went completely off the rails on this because it's on their own home turf which they had thought to be safe.

There is ample previous precedent for this kind of skewed coverage.

When the USS _Cole_ was blown up by al-Quaeda, the media yawned.

Media talking heads referred to the ship as a "boat". They minimized the damage and the deaths. Because, after all, the sorts of people who join the Navy are illiterate gape-mouthed yokels from flyover country. If those people had been smart and could read and write, they would have moved to New York City to work in the media, because that's what the best people do. So some hillbillies in a boat went boom. No biggie.

Then a few months later when the same group of terrorists struck in New York City, the media said OMFG IT'S THE END OF THE FUCKING WORLD!!!1!!!11!!eleventy!

Because suddenly it was _their_ home turf that was under attack and people _they_ knew were getting killed, instead of distant simpletons in the services on a ship, or boat, or whatever.

"Today, a federal appeals court in Washington, D.C. handed Wheaton College and Belmont Abbey College a major victory in their challenges to the HHS mandate. Last summer, two lower courts had dismissed the Colleges’ cases as premature. Today, the appellate court reinstated those cases, and ordered the Obama Administration to report back every 60 days—starting in mid-February—until the Administration makes good on its promise to issue a new rule that protects the Colleges’ religious freedom. The new rule must be issued by March 31, 2013."

I'm going to guess that this group ($1 million+ income/year) would be the group that provides most of the taxes that the $250K+ income/year group would provide in total anyway.

What the insistence on the $250K threshold tells me is that Obama and the Dems are telling the lower income segment their SWPL blue city constituency to go pound sand and that he's going to take their money and redistribute it even if it lowers their living standards. I suppose since he'll never need their votes again, it makes sense to use their money to create more dependents. Useful idiots.

It actually means a tax increase for millions of working families across the country, at the same time as folks like me would be getting a tax break. How is this supposed to make sense? You don't even need that.  Just put an armed, trained, contract security guard in every school.  All you need is someone who can shoot back.  They don't need arrest authority, they can call the police when that's needed.

241 @178

That is not true at all, GOP representatives get interviewed and get plenty of air time to put forth a Conservative agenda, they refuse to do it.

They get sucked into the narrative that the MSM/Donks put forth, they argue on their terms and on their battlefield.

They never challenge the premise of the argument, they never change the topic to grounds that are favorable to them. They never call out the lies of the President.

The only way to win is to fight, but we elect quislings like Boehner, McCain, Graham, etc.

We even elect really smart politicians like Ryan but he is not really a fighter.

Great ideas but no fight will get you nowhere

246 I am about to head out to a Christmas get together at the house of one of my co-workers. If the convo turns to how awesome Obama is, I need a way to get out and fast, before I scream blue bloody murder. Is it uncouth to fake an anaphylactic reaction to cheese and crackers?

---

I wouldn't even go, but that's just me...and that's assuming the coworkers are Obots.  I refuse to suffer these kinds of fools in my social circle anymore.  You're either with my country or against it.  Anything Choom does is against.  Choom bots = against my country = I'm ejecting you from my life.

But again, that's just me.

he keeps getting re-elected from a purple district, he can't really afford to be a firebrand. The only GOP reps who can really speak out are from solid red districts. Like Senator DeMint,  wait...never mind.

You mean the Media referee lets them have an occasional few moments to say something, while the bulk of the American population is watching "Idol" or some such?

You aren't getting the scope of what is occurring.  For example, this ongoing and constant coverage of this Newtown Massacre demonstrates how the media can keep hammering away at something they regard as politically damaging to conservatives, and completely ignore all those people shot with fast and furious weapons.

Were WE in charge of the media, we could be doing a 24-7 onslaught about Fast and Furious, dead border agents, Dead Ambassadors, Gun running in Benghazi, abandonment of US Soldiers, incompetence, deceit,  Michelle's opulence, and so on.

The Media do as much damage to us by what they don't cover (Hello Bill Ayers, and Reverend Wright) as by what they do cover.   The Media people decide what the American people will talk about.  They also time these conversations for what they regard as opportunities to push a liberal New York/ Los Angeles dominated opinion.

256 "Were WE in charge of the media, we could be doing a 24-7 onslaught about Fast and Furious, dead border agents, Dead Ambassadors, Gun running in Benghazi, abandonment of US Soldiers, incompetence, deceit, Michelle's opulence, and so on." Conservatives have some big dogs in the media market, including the nation's largest newspaper, the most-watched cable news channel and the most popular radio programs. They're certainly outnumbered but not outgunned. Those major outlets have covered the stories you mention.

258 They don't have the popular culture, though, not even close. Your run-of-the-mill RV and movie sitcoms and dramas are overwhelmingly leftist. Low-information voters by inference do not follow news, but they probably watch Family Guy and think all Republicans are nazis.

"Coverage" does not mean "saturation."  Go outside and ask the first person who walks by what F&F is.  Or who Susan Rice is.  Or why the economy is going to the mattresses faster than Danny Bonaduce against Mike Tyson.  Then come back and talk about conservative 'big dogs.'

Visitng my granddaughter's school has become an almost  weekly thing with all her extra-curricular things. She told me about "Officer Friendly" at the beginning of the school year. I figured "OF" was a touchy-feely elderly woman who was on her way out to pasture, waiting for retirement. I got to meet "her" the other day, prior to the Newtown tragedy.

"Officer Friendly" turned out to Sgt. Moses _____, 18 year vet of the force. 6'-6" x 240 lbs of ball-headed, cauliflowered-earred black middle linebacker. Some interesting scars on the scalp and tattos on his forearms. Scary looking dude. Of course, he had a voice like Barry White. We talked for 5 minutes and came away with a more secure feeling about the kid's safety. Felt good to see him walking the halls, surrounded by all the little kids. Standard practice to have a police liason these days.

That's not good enough.

I expect my "Representatives" to argue from a place of principle just as I do.

Most of my friends and family are liberal I fight and argue with them all the time to the point of frustration and yelling.

I expect a GOP representative when confronted with the MSM/Donk narrative to not play ball.

When some idiot talking head says we should ban assault weapons, the first rejoinder should be what do you consider an assault weapon?

When some idiot says we should ban high capacity clips the rejoinder should be what number would you say is a high capacity clip? Is it 30 round, 20 rounds?

You tell the interviewer. "So you seem to be saying that there is a connection between the number of allowable rounds that someone can legally buy and homicidal murder, what would you say the maximum number of rounds a clip should have in order to prevent deranged people from committing massacres? Is it 15 rounds, 10 rounds, 5 rounds?

If the interviewer says "Well no one needs 30 round clips to go hunting or shooting!"

You tell them, "Well it's called the bill of rights and not the bill of needs and it's purpose was not to secure my right to hunt or target practice, it was to defend myself from harm and from a tyrannical  government bent of denying me my liberty!"

THIS IS REALLY FUCKING EASY GUYS!!!!
