Obama Spokestool Jay Carney Has Another Bad Day At The Office
— DrewM

First, Jake Tapper asks Carney, how is not taking more money from people in taxes "a give away".

TAPPER: You used the word “giveaway,” and President Obama, in his statement yesterday, used the word “giveaway,” referring to the extension of the Bush — lower — the lower Bush tax cut rates for the — I guess, the top 1 or 2 percent of the country, people making over $200,000 a year or couples making 250. What do you say to a small-business owner who says, that’s not a giveaway; that’s my money, and by the way, I’m going to need some of that money in order to help pay for health care of individuals that I’m now mandated to do; it’s not giving anything away; it’s allowing me to keep my money?

CARNEY: Well, the phrasing of the question leaves out a few things, which is, one, this tax cut that the Senate passed and that the president supports would go to 97 percent of small businesses in America, 97 percent. Further, this president has cut the taxes of small businesses in America 18 times, independent of this. So he’s — his focus on assisting small businesses, which he considers the engine of economic growth in this country, the engine of job creation in this country, has been intense and will continue to be.

TAPPER: Yes, I left out people I wasnÂ’t talking about.

...

TAPPER: I’m not — the question is this: Why is it a “giveaway”? Why are you guys using — you and President Obama — using the term “giveaway” when even if you support the Senate Democrats’ bill, it’s not technically a giveaway; it is allowing people to keep the tax cut that they got in 2001 and 2002?

CARNEY: Right, but these are tax cuts that we cannot afford, that do not, by — as — by the estimates of credible, independent economists do not measurably help the economy and do not — in the way that tax cuts to working and middle-class Americans help the economy.

And you know, we have to make choices. And it is a — it is a tax cut for the wealthiest Americans that we simply can’t afford.

There's more at the link but that's pretty awesome.

Carney also got tripped up on a very difficult question, "Is Jerusalem the capital of Israel". If you watch the video you can see "reporters" laughing at the question since it was meant to make Carney look stupid. Fortunately he was obliging.

If as Carney says everyone knows the administration's position and it's not changed, why didn't he just reiterate it?

For the record, according to the CIA World Factbook, the capital of Israel is wait for it....Jerusalem.

The level of incompetence in this White House is amazing.

52 Way back in the early 90s, I bought a mostly junk VW for $250. Obviously, when I went to get it tagged, the state wanted their cut, which was around $20 for the sales & property tax (not counting the tags & title transfer & registration fees). In other words, the state government had a $230 giveaway when I bought that car! They gave me $230, guys! I mean, they could have just confiscated the car and put me in jail, but instead they let me drive the car. Seriously, why do you not get that they gave me $230 and a car!

91 I'm also tired of hearing about income inequality. Income inequality is one of the best motivators ever.

Barky and the Dems want us all to be equally miserable.

They can't say that though.

"Misery inequality" just doesn't have the same ring to it.

And while I am in no way defending obama and his obviously anti-Israel stance, all administrations past and present are quilty of the same offense. No Republican Administration has had the guts or integrity to state the Obvious and the Proper Stance that Jerusalem is the undivided and eternal Capital of the Sovereign State of Israel.

Yep, they are getting desperate. The pet leftards that I keep around on Facebook for sparring practice have now been trying the "Romney is stoopid" angle. He supposedly insulted the British Prime Minister by noting the security problems the Brits have been having with the upcoming Olympics.

I was wondering if Mitt had asked for the return of the Churchill bust.

I asked them if Romney should have bowed, or given an Ipod full of his speeches to the PM. They didn't find that amusing.

124 I kind of feel bad for any White House spokesman, particularly one for this administration. If its a Republican, you have to deal with a rabidly hostile press. If its Obama, you have to try to turn reasty dog feces into strawberry shortcake.
The insistence on not calling Jerusalem the capital of Israel is fascinating though. I've long scoffed at the claim that Obama is Muslim, largely because he's so arrogant I doubt he worships anyone but himself.
But this and an event in Portland Oregon recently makes me wonder if he's not one of those prison Muslims who adheres to parts of the faith as far as he believes anything.
He ordered split pea soup with ham and ate all the soup but none of the ham. You have to really work to not eat ham in that kind of soup. It has to be deliberate. There's something there...

130 What is this nonsense? The USA does not recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital. This country's legal position under every POTUS is that Jerusalem is not Israel's capital. The only President that recently cited it as such was Obama and he was wrong and each president, including Obama, has blocked it's recognition and prevented our embassy from being relocated there. Do you guys seriously just make things up as you go along?

134 Look, guys, you seem to be having trouble with this concept of "affording" tax cuts, so let me clear it up for you: - Discretionary spending is mandatory. There is never any question as to whether we can afford it. - Defense spending is a luxury - We'll let you keep more of your money than we would prefer, if we can afford it. But if you want your tax cuts, we'll have to take them out of defense (see above), the one area in which the government spends too much and ever wastes anything. I trust I have cleared this up.

135 the level of ignorance in the blog posts signed "drew m." is amaz...wait, no. it reallly isn't, anymore. the united states' embassy accorded to the government of the state of israel is located in tel aviv, not israel. the official government position on israel is ACTUALLY that the city has not been under any legitimate governing authority since the dissolution of the british mandate. the cia factbook probably lists jerusalem as the capital because the state of israel has so designated it. but the united states does not even consider jerusalem to be necessarily IN israel, to the point that naturalised jerusalem-born us citizens cannot list "israel" as their nation of birth on any government documentation, instead having to repeat their city of birth as though it were a country unto itself. for example, here is a picture of a certificate of naturalisation showing that the citizen was born in "jerusalem, jerusalem": http://viciousbabushka.typepad.com/.a/6a010536b72a74970b0162fc111bcb970d-450wi can't you at least do a LITTLE research before you write some snarky post accusing someone else of ignorance or stupidity? i'm sure i'm not the only one getting tired of being associated by proxy with such wilfully ignorant hyperpoliticism.

138 "the united states' embassy accorded to the government of the state of israel is located in tel aviv, not Jerusalem."
Yeah that was dealt with earlier in the thread: Tel Aviv is a much safer, less terrorist-haunted area, all the embassies are there. The US Government has unofficially called Jerusalem the capitol of the nation for decades, and the CIA worldbook specifically and directly says that. So does every Atlas on earth except ones put out by Muslims. This administration is different than the last ones. This one is deliberately avoiding saying that Jersualem is the capitol.
That stands out. But by all means, be condescending and abusive without understanding the facts. Everyone on earth is stupid except you.
