— JohnE. Call me a cynic, but I'm beginning to think this Obama chap has a little trouble telling the truth.
Obama in an interview with AP today:
Obama's view of a different second-term dynamic in Washington, even if both and House Republicans retain power, seems a stretch given the gridlocked politics of a divided government. He said two changes — the facts that "the American people will have voted," and that Republicans will no longer need to be focused on beating him — could lead to better conditions for deal-making.If Republicans are willing, Obama said, "I'm prepared to make a whole range of compromises" that could even rankle his own party. But he did not get specific.
Who does President "I won, you lost" expect to believe this?
Meanwhile, Team Obama has cut another ad. This one features Republican women showing their support for Obama. Not only does it bizarrely claim that "if you're a woman that favors small government, you should vote for Obama", but naturally it turns out they lied and the ad features a registered Democrat posing as a Republican.
As Treacher said, "Just throw it on the pile with all the rest."

Blast from the past:
That's exactly the argument the Dog-Eating Retard made in favor of supporting the coup attempt by his leftist buddy, tin-foil afficionado Zelaya.
I still don't understand why this guy hasn't been impeached and tossed out, yet. Even if he finally gets thrown out in the election, the fact that all this shit went on in America and no one did anything speaks volumes and will not go away. The clear vulnerability and easy susceptibility of this nation to going down the darkest of paths will be with us, even as people try to repress the knowledge and pretend that none of this ever really happened. Pathetic and scary.

Or what the Dems did to the 1st Pres Bush c 1990: we need to cut spending and raise taxes. Bush agreed and gave them the tax hike, and my gosh but the Dems suddenly realized there was nothing to cut!
You want to compromise? Let Romney be President half the time. How's that? (Barky will agree to that after he's lost the election... hey you know what, he'll not only be the first Black to be elected President, he'll also be the first Black President to be defeated for re-election. He'll get into the history books twice. Three times if you want to include the credit downgrade,)

I really think they need to push this "Obama's a big, fat liar" theme, but they need to do so cautiously.
My all-time favorite ad COMPLETELY stars Obama, and the clips are long enough that there's no doubt that any intenet has been manipulated with editing. It where they show the Obama "it was out of context" ad, followed by the full context (in audio, with insensed business owners shown in the video".
That wasn't just a lie - it was a lie he purposefully taped, and spent millions to make sure everybody saw. The lie was the entire subject of the ad, and the subject was simple enough that
Of course, besides the "liar" theme, it also shows his thoroughly anti-American attitude.practucally anybody could do their OWN fact-checking on it.
The main point is, that all politicians accuse each other of lying. The best ads star Obama, saying stuff that everybody can now see was a load of BS.

No. IOW, the system that the Founding Fathers laid down is happily ignored by America at any given time, no matter the destruction and consequeences. IOW, there is no Rule of Law and there are classes of people who are given free reign to do anything they want and no one will even think to hold them accountable or stop them.
This is NOT what the Founders had in mind. Quite the opposite.

There are all kinds of dishonesty in campaigns, but it's usually convenient interpretation of carefully selected facts, or carefully chosen phrases that are actually true (literally), but which nonetheless give a misleading impression. I don't think I've ever seen a sitting US President take out an ad to tell an obvious and blatant lie before. Not even Clinton!

I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I didn't pick up on this until fairly recently. In my defense, I really didn't have a long enough history of Obama statements to go on. I mean, it was obvious to me that he was "full of it", that most of his promises where either nieve or just pandering, but I didn't realize that a lot of them were things that he had NO INTENTION of EVER even TRYING to do.

This is ridiculous on its face.
1. If the American people "will have spoken" he will take that as a mandate for him to pursue HIS policies, not the Republicans' policies. Why then would he make a move to compromise?
2. He is signalling his base to vote for him, why? So he can compromise with Republicans?
3. He is telling Republicans that if they want their ideas implemented, the best way to do that is vote for HIM?
4. This is coming out of the mouth of the "I Won" man.
This is the stupidest political pitch I have ever heard.

[post continued]
The time I picked up on Obama's pathological lying was after he gave a speech on energy. It was such a lengthy, non-stop string of misleading presentations, spin, and outright lies, that I was really taken aback - I'm not sure I've seen anything quite like that, even in my own private life. This on an important subject, that I was well studied up on, and Obama's stance is - to put it bluntly - self-destructive towards America, to say the least.
I'm old enough to remember Clinton - who was ALWAYS using weasel-wording - and it was nothing like this guy.
It's funny about how they called Bush43 a "liar". He seemed to me to be among the most honest presidents in recent history. I didn't always like what he was saying, but as I asked my self "does he believe that stuff , himself?" the answer was virtually always, "Yes".
Maybe Nixon lied a lot, too - I'm not old enough to remember. He certainly had his "I'm am not a crook" moment (I suppose you could call that an "opinion", if you want to be kind), but my impression was that he was mostly evasive, asserting executive priviledge to cover things up.
By way of comparison, Obama's fable about him talking about "plugging the hole" with his young daughter reminded me a LOT of a tactic Nixon employed once. Look up about his "Checkers" speech.

He is also saying that he is unwilling to make any compromises with Congress before the election.
If he really cared about the future of America and it's citizens, he would implement that whole "range of compromises" now, instead of only doing so, if it benefits him.
Isn't that like a kid telling their mother, they will only take out the garbage after they get candy?

The really great thing about Neil Armstrong - as a great American hero - is that he wasn't some "Senator's son" (as the song goes - no disrespect intended towards Mitt). He was chosen because he was simply the best of the best - some guy from a little town in OH.
His selection was a result of how he performed in some crazy training gadget, that malfunctioned, and just went crazy. He managed to not panic, handle the situation perfectly, and come out in one piece.
His ability to function when things went wrong came in handy, too. They almost ran out of fuel during the lunar landing.
He was also great after the fact. He didn't go around seeking crowds to admire him - I've heard he was actually a pretty boring speaker, and didn't give too many. He was what he was, and was content with that. In contrast, you have his side-kick, Buzz Aldrin, who always seeks the public eye, and gives you that "We both landed on the Moon at the same time" line. I applaud him, as well, but he's a bit of an ass.

"142 I honestly don't think this is meant to convince anyone. This sort of stuff is for liberals to have something to claim at cocktail parties and internet comments. ..."
It's not unlike the religious - when you have no actual eveidence to support your beliefs, all you have is to congregate in groups and tell each other what you want to hear. The fact that other people are saying the same thing acts as a sort of surrogate, in lieu of actual evidence. That's why both groups gat so hostile towards dissent - it represents a serious threat to the only thing they have to keep their cherished idea alive.
So yea, this is something for the liberals to tell each other, even though the overwhelming wealth of evidence suggests that exactly the opposite is true. They will even go out on talk shows, and unreservedly say this stuff, and get really angry when anybody disputes it. It will be the classic "Because ... shut up! Racist!" situation.

# 150, When Aldrin decked the heckler who claimed we never landed on the moon, he became my hero all over again. Buzz Aldrin can be forgiven many 'sins' with his one punch knockdown of a 'we didn't land on the moon' conspiracy bullshit artist.
And remember, the whole Owebama Presidency is a conspiracy fact.

"I voted for Reagan 8 times, 4 in the primaries, and 4 in major elections."
twice for governor of Cal and twice for President?
Posted by: mallfly
The 4 primaries might include the 1968, 1976, 1980 and 1984 Republican Presidential primaries.
The majors would be President 1980 and 1984, Governor 1966 and 1970.
And if she was voting for Dutch back in '66 when the voting age was still 21, she old.

But ya'know, if the prez wants to raise taxes to 75%, but compromises and only raises them to 65%, he's saving us money, right?
Well, in his mind he is...

They did wherever I lived growing up.
I read that poem at my fathers funeral. That was a little tough to get through. My dad was a fighter pilot in Korea and Viet Nam.

@157
Yeah, his episode with the conspiracy nuts offers a certain amount of gratification, but - when it comes down to it - it wasn't exactly classy.
On a positive note, my sister got me a signed copy of Buzz's book, and I have made sure my daughter knows its significance. His autograph isn't exactly rare, but it should be a big deal, nonetheless, in the decades and centuries to come.

"162 Nobody remembers me."
Actually, I'm enough of a space geek that I certainly remember the mane of the guy who flew solo for a while in that mission, while his buddies stepped out to play golf, and had to do the docking at his end all by himself.
[Yeah, I know. The golfing came later.]

I know it was something many people (probably the young ones with no real knowledge of national pride) laughed at, but Newt's point in re-introducing manned space exploration was a good one.
Many of the things of technological importance that we take for granted today was a direct result of our race to the moon. I'm just afraid that it'll be a long long time before we have a grand American event like the moon landing.
