— DrewM Looks like the only heat Solyndra is now producing is on our feckless President.
We are doing the all of the above strategy right. Obviously, we wish Solyndra hadn’t gone bankrupt. Part of the reason they did was because the Chinese were subsidizing their solar industry and flooding the market in ways that Solyndra couldn’t compete. But understand, this was not our program per se.Congress–Democrats and Republicans–put together a loan guarantee program because they understood historically that when you get new industries–it’s easy to raise money for start-ups, but if you want to take them to scale sometimes there’s a lot of risk involved, and what the loan guarantee program was designed to do was to help start-up companies get to scale. And the understanding is that some companies are not going to succeed, some companies are going to do very well, but the portfolio as a whole ends up supporting the kind of innovation that helps make America successful in this innovative 21st century economy. Do I wish that Solyndra had gone bankrupt? Absolutely not. And obviously it’s heartbreaking it happened for the workers who were there.
There was an earlier loan program but as you might recall, the Bush administration refused to give Solyndra a loan under that. They only got the money after a new program was created under the so-called "stimulus" bill.
That Obama feels the need to lie about this shows they know the issue is cutting against them. Time to double down on it GOP.

Let me see. Obama gives Solyndra a half a trillion in loan guarantees and the only reason they failed was because the Chinese subsidize their solar industry?

Standard Oil.
American Telephone and Telegraph.
Ford Motor Company.
Excuse me? Young industries/businesses that are better than their competition scale up -historically- quite nicely just with private investment. Congress created the program to help subsidize industries that are not competitive on their own.
Even if that lie were true- everyone who could add 1 and 1 and not get 17 knew that Solyndra was doomed from the outset, and the BOOOOOSH administration had even already rejected their request.

I really, really hope he decides to stick with this line. Okay, for the sake of argument, let's accept your premise, Mr. Obama. Who would the American people rather have running a startup fund, you, who has never managed so much as a TV remote, or the guy who, you know, ran a startup fund very successfully for 25 years? It's a puzzler, that's what it is.

They need to show the things he's done that have fallen flat on their faces, then play his lies (I don't believe he's stupid enough to actually believe what he's saying), and then have a voice over say "Either Barack Obama believes X, or he purposely misled the nation. Which is worse?"

If only there were some proven way of accurately forecasting if a company might succeed or fail. Or some mechanism by which these myriad potential innovations could be vetted, evaluated, and prioritized so as to avoid squandering resources, or even criminal fraud.
But such a thing would require millions - even billions! - of individual evaluators to constantly signal their preferences in real-time, reacting rapidly to an ever-changing flow of information encompassing thousands of different areas of expertise. How could we possibly afford such a thing?
Oh well. Sounds like a job for a Czar.

That "per se" isn't even used correctly. This is very much like Barky's incorrect usage of "don't call my bluff" (WTF) or his weird non-American usage of "all we wee'd up" ... But, at least those other instances are unofficial sorts of things or just baby-talk (by a Precedent who isn't quite familiar with American baby-talk). The "per se", though, is something that one would think a Hah-vahd Lawn School grad would understand.

It's like the Feckless Administration went through all of the things that the Bush Administration turned thumbs down on....and resurrected them....in hopes of having a 'get-out-of-blame' card if it ended up backfiring on them.

The point he was trying to make, that it was Bush and Bernanke who paid all that money to refloat the economy for a little bit, not Barky (though Barky had a cool trillion and half of his own policies' "free money" sloshing around in the economy). That is true and worth noting, but that outrageous expense didn't "save the economy" and wasn't Constitutional.

@108: might have missed the /sarc here, so...
But such a thing would require millions - even billions! - of individual evaluators to constantly signal their preferences in real-time, reacting rapidly to an ever-changing flow of information encompassing thousands of different areas of expertise. How could we possibly afford such a thing?
I believe that's what we call a "Capital Market".

All CT70's were street legal. The later models even have turn signals.

I have been looking for one but people want an arm and a leg for them. I picked up the CT 110 for $1100 and its in good shape. Has the dual range tranny, the swivel to flip the bars 90 degrees, the canteen extra gas tank, cargo rack... reminds me of my youth !

The sales tax on gas is supposed to go to the highway fund, and by highway they mean tuition and health care for illegals.

The Dax Chinese clones are about a grand new. And they're 125cc.

My first bike was a 1971 CT 70. Oddly when I traded it in on a dirt bike, my soon to be good buddy bought it. He recently just found a vintage 1972 red one that had been stored in a crate for almost 40 years. The tires and seat were crap, but the paint and decals perfect.
New seat and tires and he's got a cool little putt-putt!
It doesn't go quite the same as it did when we were 14 for some reason.

I think the '72s were metal flake, yes?

166 These sound like the excuses a child uses. 'If only the cookie jar had been locked in Fort Knox, I couldn't have raided it. It's your fault'.

"Time to double down on it GOP"
If only the GOP had some really creative, cut-throat ad people and/or the will to take SCOAMF head-on, but I doubt it.

Axelrod may have a hard-on but reality has a way of limpining dicks.
Is anyone else tired of this micro-vetting of every single word spoken by a candidate...and projecting it onto a general public that overwhelmingly is not paying attention?

This is going to take down Obama just like Whitewater and Travelgate took down Clinton.
What would happen if the GOP pushed a scandal and nobody cared? Well, it's happened before...

Obama: I didn't invent that program so don't blame me for Solyndra.
OJ Simpson: I didn't invent that knife so don't blame me for those two dead people with slit throats.

Probably not gonna happen.
When the opportune time comes around, the Republicans are more likely to back down, instead of double down.
