Obama: You Know Who Deserves A Raise? Civilian Federal Workers
— DrewM

"Civilian federal workers" is a euphemism for "Obama's base in Northern Virginia".

Here's the proposal.

The White House will propose a 0.5 percent pay increase for civilian federal employees as part of its 2013 budget proposal, according to two senior administration officials familiar with the plans.

The modest cost of living increase in federal compensation would be the first pay jump for federal workers since before President Obama ordered a two-year freeze in late 2010.

The proposal, which requires congressional approval, differs from Republican plans supported by lawmakers and presidential candidates that would freeze federal compensation for at least one more year. In recent weeks, GOP lawmakers have called for extending the pay freeze as a way to pay for a payroll tax extension.

This needs congressional approval you say? I hope the GOP offers the following counter-proposal: 15% of you are fired.

Quality snark from "Political Math" on Twitter.

Pro tip: Don't announce raises for bureaucrats the day after you announce you're firing 10,000 soldiers.

Of course we can afford all of this now because unemployment is plummeted to 8.5% and happy days are here again according to the Associated Press.

(Sorry for the blatant link whoring to my little site but I thought someone else would have done a post on it here and I don't want to bother redoing the whole thing)

1 Obama: You Know Who Deserves A Rise? Civilian Federal Workers

Perhaps you mean a raise? Or is Obama really "working" for votes now?

1) Pray daily for his defeat and the cleansing of this administration from DC
2) Write letters to Senator Rubio to join as VP, or heck, he has until Feb to run
3) Vote in November 2012, for every GOP on the ballot, local, state, federal

Oh, and if it's not been said... federal employees aren't working with no pay raises for 2 years.  Feds use a grade/step system.  So if your job is whatever GS level you are, within that GS level there are steps.  Basically, every year you go up one step, regardless of anything else.  You can certainly max out your step, but chances are if you know how to game the system, you find a way to move up to the next GS level by that point.  So everybody gets raises!

Oh, and then there's locality pay.....

As they said during the California budget crisis -What do you call 200,000 layed-off state workers?  A good start.

Trim the civilian federal work force by at least twenty percent overall and delete several entire departments (you know which ones) entirely.

Unfortunatly I believe it was Talleyrand who told another as they observed from a balcony overlooking  a mass of bureaucrats working in a huge office, "You and I shall pass, but das bureaus? Das bureaus are eternal."

The untold story of the Obama Administration’s widely reported, $335 million discrimination settlement with Countrywide Financial Corporation is that, under a secret Justice Department program, a chunk of the money won’t go to the “victims” but rather leftist groups not connected to the lawsuit.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) will determine which “qualified organizations” get leftover settlement cash and Democrat-tied groups like the scandal-plagued Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) and the open-borders National Council of La Raza (NCLR) stand to get large sums based on the hastily arranged deal which got court approval in just a few days.

78 The palace press story about your athletic, godlike sovereign dates from January 4, 2012, in your dating system. My spiritual brother shares many similarities with me. Louis had an enormous amount of attention paid to him at all times by the nobles. Whether he was eating, walking through his apartments, or even waking up in his bed, he was noticed. This also meant that Louis began to recognize every single noble that lived in his palace, no one went unnoticed. King Louis began to realize who did not appear in court and later confronted them asking for their reasoning. King Louis XIV had an excellent memory and he used it to his advantage. I do wish I had thought of dismissing my critics with "J'ai gagné."

Sorry, G-Man, I can't get too worked up about it.

Within-grade increases average about 3 percent of an employeeÂ’s pay. They are eligible for them after one, two or three years at their current step, depending on their level.

So you're still getting 1-3% every year even with a "salary freeze."

I took a real salary freeze, got all future pension bennies eliminated, and my 401k chopped.

The private sector still lags far behind the public sector in pay and bennies.

Posted by: Warden at January 06, 2012 01:30 PM (HzhBE)

151 A .5% raise would cost about $500 million, but would only equate to about $325 per employee, like an extra $6 a week before taxes.  $500 million isn't even a rounding error considering the Feds spend about $3.6 trillion, but in the real world $500 million is a tremendous amount of money.  Bad idea all around; bad appearance, doesn't do anything for employees and costs the taxpayers $500 million.

The amateur in chief strikes again.

Have an Evil day
