As a major new commentator on CNN, of course we have convered the selection of Paul Ryan as Mitt Romney's running mate. The all important immigrant Muslim vote, which I know all about, will be lost to the Republicans in this election, It think.
Meanwhile, over on the Fox cable network, a bunch of sour faced political experts were chatting about Romney and Ryan.
Their take was that he is in bad trouble in the Southwest and in Nevada, states which will probably never even played really, but they had to say this, also saying that he's done nothing, that's Romney, to shore up any kind of image with women or minorities since his nomination.
And then they all nod their heads in agreement that Ryan's addition to the ticket has done nothing to help this

17 days later Obama comes to Roanoke. Friday night at 7pm. Overcast day in the low 80's. Announced a week earlier that he was coming to town, how to get tickets, and the biggest media coverage this town has seen since the VA Tech shootings. He drew 2500 people.
The polish is off the turd.

I absolutely adore Paul Ryan, he was my pick, but after driving in the car for 2 hours on a trip today and all I had to listen to on XM was people like Wasserman-Schultz overjoyed at the prospect of Ryan and his medicare budget being the thing everyone will be talking about, not that Obama is a SCOAMF.
Be honest, do we have a shot. I'm really nervous that Romney can put out a competent message and get through to the low info voters.
What does the horde think? I have to admit I actually felt hopeful today though, for the first time in 3 years.

Romney has been good to great so far. Smart. Give the momentum a little time to grow. I think it is there. Romney is not McCain and Ryan is not Palin. They are ready for the onslaught. OTaxCare is going to be a big part of the argument. I've been thinking about how to argue against it with friends and family.
I personally would benefit from OTaxCare. That cannot be your only criteria for whether you like a new law/bennie though, unless you are a full blown leech and thus unreachable.
Say a new law was passed that all people with a last name starting with 'M' will get a check from the government for $1 million. It was picked through a lottery. The other 95% or so of people with different first letter last names will have to pony up extra taxes to pay for this.
"Wait, that's not fair!" Sure it is. The government has picked winners and losers. Plus, this will help the economy because those million dollar recipients will go out and spend it, helping everyone. Or so their argument goes. Show them that 'fair' depends upon where you are standing.
Did I mention my last name starts with 'M'? Go figure on that. Yes, I would still be opposed to this law. OTaxCare does the exact same thing as this lottery idea. So does giving tax refunds to people that paid nothing in.
Redistribution sucks, even if you benefit from it.

Ryan is always polite in his demeanor, but he's not a shrinking violet about challenging the old seniority system, either. That's why the clip about health care is so good: he stands up to Obama without any of the kow-towing so many showed right after Obama was elected. He says to Biden that even though the Prez won the election, they all still speak for the American people. (Recall that this was when Obama kept sticking it to McCain, remarking things like, "We're no longer campaigning, John. The election is over.")

Here is Slate in 2008 taking Biden to the woodshed over his bad habit of stealing other peoples' writings.

no I am pretty sure plugz was right not that that is any great trick though....
look Plugsz may be an idiot but he has been protected from the deepest dangers of extinction level crises and health concerns known to man, has been paid millions and is one of a select group of individuals known as politicians who are allowed to gain from the combination of inside knowledge and the power to control outcomes.
The newsies eat Biden's bullshit for a living.....any questions?

Of course she does.
What kind of question is that?
She sees them on the monitor from the camera feed in their cell.

I'll feel better if they leave the mainland (sorry Hawaii). Better yet maybe he'll want to travel the world.
It'll be interesting to see if the MFM drops this Zero like a hot potato once they don't have to cover for him anymore. They've got to be at least a teensy bit resentful about throwing away their credibility for such a loser.

I love Kiawah and feel the need to go back and rent the place for a week.
All the courses there are great, but the Ocean Course is a beautiful bitch.
The Legend of Bagger Vance was filmed on Kiawah Island.

Romney HAD to pick Ryan because they were going to use Ryan to attack ALL our ticketsÂ’ candidates.
Romney has two very nice powerful arrows in his quiver and even empowers himself to use Romneycare in a positive way if needed.
1) You stole 700 billion dollars of paid in by Medicare withholding funds.
2) Let Paul Ryan explain that “I am not the President and Mitt will have his own methods, but MY PLAN is not going to impact ANYONE over 54 years old and will phase out over a long time period the theft of your wages for a syatem that is not sustainable and allow your grandkids and kids the freedom to use the market and choice to bring costs down.”
3) if need be you have “wow gee Barack yes Romneycare is just like your plan except I couldn’t hijack almost a trillion dollars from the money the American worker has paid in their entire working life to fund it.”

That thought went through my mind too when I saw it. That is not the image she'd be putting out there if she's planning on switching to VP in the next few weeks.
OTOH, it makes me a little nervous that Billy Jeff has such a prominent position at the D convention - what's in it for him, plus O's obvious growing desperation, make me wonder if they're planning a switcheroo. Hopefully the lefty thrill over Ryan is genuine and Barky doesn't think he needs a new VP.

With proper camera angles they made a high school gym look full when it was about a third full during the 2008 campaign; never showed the bulk of the gym being empty.
