Obama's Budget Rejected Unanimously By Senate, 99-0
— Ace

"A balanced approach."

President Obama's budget suffered a second embarrassing defeat Wednesday, when senators voted 99-0 to reject it.

Coupled with the House's rejection in March, 414-0, that means Mr. Obama's budget has failed to win a single vote in support this year.

Republicans forced the vote by offering the president's plan on the Senate floor.

Democrats disputed that it was actually the president's plan, arguing that the slim amendment didn't actually match Mr. Obama's budget document, which ran thousands of pages. But Republicans said they used all of the president's numbers in the proposal, so it faithfully represented his plan.

Sen. Jeff Sessions, Alabama Republican, even challenged Democrats to point out any errors in the numbers and he would correct them — a challenge no Democrats took up.

Democrats don't want to be on record supporting $6.4 trillion in fresh debt -- and yet they also demonize the Republican budgets (paring debt down to $3.1 trillion or under $2 trillion, spending on the plan) as "extremist."

They hate the Republican budgets -- and yet they cannot, will not produce their own.

1 Think about this.  A President presents a budget to Congress and it gets ZERO votes?  Yet, in many people's minds he is still odds-on favorite to win re-election when far-and-away the most important issue this year is the economy?

No, Obama is going to lose badly and take the Democrats with him.  The 2012 disaster will make 2010 look like pre-season football.

Okay, I always play nice and refrain from going OT before 100 posts and always get beaten to it, but not anymore.

Kucinich is OUT.

I would like to thank you for your support, and thank the tens of thousands of concerned Citizens for Kucinich who in the past few months have written, emailed and called to discuss my running for Congress in Washington State.

At the end of this term I will have served sixteen years in the House of Representatives, leading the way for peace, to bring an end to the wars, for workers' rights, for health care for all, for monetary policy reform and to end the corrupting influence which money has on our political decision-making process. My staff and I have worked to deliver a level of constituent service to the people of Cleveland, which most agree is unmatched for results. As testimony to our efforts in the Cleveland area I received about 75% of the vote from my present constituents who were included in the newly redistricted area in which I ran in March.

Because of my love of public service, I have given a great deal of time and much thought to the advice and encouragement I have received from so many people of good will in Washington State. I certainly want to continue to be of service to our country and to the working men and women who have built it.

After careful consideration and discussions with Elizabeth and my closest friends, I have decided that, at this time, I can best serve from outside the Congress. My commitments to peace, to workers' rights and to social and economic justice are constant and are not dependent upon holding an office. They are dependent upon my continuing to stand up, to speak out, to organize, to motivate and to inspire our nation as to its deeper potential. This I promise I will do with great energy and heart.

I will complete my service in the U.S. House on January 2, 2013, with the same passion and devotion to duty with which I began it on January 3, 1997. And when I do, I shall think of you and all those who have given me encouragement to continue to be of service, and I will smile, knowing that we shall meet again in our celebration of the potential of citizen activists to change the world.

Please continue to encourage your friends and family to sign up at www.Kucinich.us because we will need to continue to work together for change outside Congress, as we have worked for it from within. This is just the beginning!

89 The Democrats *have* a budget. They've automated huge deficits as far as the eye can see, it's the default now. The Republicans have to fight the Senate and the President to *stop* their budget just to slow down the debt growth. The MFM has been trying to hide their responsibility, the GOP needs to make it an issue - that the Democrats have *built in* automated debt growth, and they are *responsible* for it every time they vote against a cut (which is every time). The MFM and the IDIOT GOP are letting the Democrats get away with blaming Republicans for "gridlock" as if that was why spending was out of control - it's out of control because the voters gave the Dems control of both houses and they went apeshit on the budget and have been blocking reform ever since. Everybody wants to blame it on the President like that's the only election that matters - most of the damage has been done by Democrats in the House and Senate. Why is it so ******* difficult to get that message across? It's not the man, it's the ideology. The man can be replaced, but if the ideology isn't, we still go bankrupt.

Posted by: Merovign, Dark Lord of the Sith at May 16, 2012 01:07 PM (bxiXv)

90 Boehner needs to hold firm on an increase to the deficit ceiling. There should be no more agreement to even a discussion of increasing the deficit ceiling until the Senate passes a budget. as required by law.

It's not all on Boehner. This close to an election, the dems in the Senate will be "on notice" that they must do the right thing or face the consequences at the polls (those that are up for re-eelction anyway.

And a good part of everyone's electioneering should point out that with the dems in charge of the Senate, all we hear is a giant sucking sound. (And it's not the MSM getting cozy with Obama, it's our wallets being drained.)

If there were a way to make sure it worked correctly, I would have loved to see just enough Senate R's vote for Obama's budget to still keep it from passing by one vote.

202 Rs limit troop reductions in National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2013 (H.R. 4310):

"The House Armed Services Committee included language in the Defense authorization bill to limit troop reductions to 15,000 per year for the Army and 5,000 for the Marine Corps through 2017, a slower pace than the military had planned for.

The Army proposed cutting its forces by 72,000 and the Marines 20,000 in the 2013 budget, in part as a result of the drawdowns in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as budget constraints."

Defense doesn't need cutting.   The military, with it's job of defending our nation, is pretty much etched in stone in the constitution.  If there's anything that we should be putting more money into, it's our military.  We have many enemies right now that are drooling over our weakness in this area.

226 Hold on to your butts.  Newsbusters has a piece up on a book of Taliban poetry coming out soon.  Of course liberals are already raving over it.

"Poetry of the Taliban" – edited by a group of London researchers – has already been released in the U.K. and the liberal media are praising the collection as “important” and “original,” remarking how the Taliban’s verse “humanizes” murderers.

Dr. James Caron of the University of Pennsylvania gushed, “In providing such a picture, the ‘insurgentÂ’ is restored a sense of humanity and agency.”

Jon Lee Anderson, a staff writer for “The New Yorker” fawned over the terrorist composition in similar fashion. “ItÂ’s a remarkable and important book that reveals a hitherto concealed side to the harshly perceived Afghan Taliban,” he wrote.

Obviously, Americans have been too hung up on IEDs, suicide bombers and bloody riots over books to get to know the TalibanÂ’s sensitive side.

256 The Rs really need to grow a pair and seize the incredible opportunity offered by this situation.  But it would only work if they could really play big and stay united.

If our team went balls to the wall on this issue I have to believe it would work even on low information voters.  It is such a reasonable argument, although it would take paid advertising to see it made on a TV....

"This country has had a budget every year until Obama.  Sure we might get into a huge fight and pass a continuing resolution now and then for a few months, but it has been over two G*D D*MN years now.  No more.  Since taking over after the 2010 elections we in the House have passed a Budget each year while the Senate refuses to even allow one to be debated.  The Dems in the Senate don't like our budget, guess what; that happens every year.  They are supposed to pass their idea of a budget and we go to conference and argue it out.  Until they at least put their cards on the table and tell us all what their priorities are we are not going to consider another continuing resolution."

Making the argument that the Senate has to at least pass a budget resolution should be easy.  And oh so deadly for Dems, which is why they steadfastly refuse to do it and their media wing is so desperate to ensure nobody notices how unprecedented this situation is.  Anything they put on paper will ensure massive losses in their ranks.  So we have to push them hard enough they have to take those losses and the only way to do that is to shine enough light on it that doing nothing is an even worse situation to go into November in.

We have the whip hand in the end.  The Party of Government needs to keep the checks flowing more than we who want to rein it in.  As long as we can have a bumper sticker sized argument to rebut the "Evil rethuglicans are shutting down granny's social security to score cheap points." argument with "We have had a budget every year until Obama.  It isn't unreasonable to demand the Senate at least _TRY_ doing their duty before declaring defeat."

Remember, we don't have to actually get a budget to win this fight.  We win the second the Senate brings one out of committee.  If we can't force them to do that much we suck.

Based on current polling, I'm suspecting outlier.

This far out, there will be some noise.

300 While some of the defense budget needs cutting the problem is the part that needs cutting will never be cut by congress because it is pork.

I will go with defense cuts if they are limited to unneeded bases as determined by the pentagon, unneeded procurement progroms as determined by the pentagon, and finally the procurement process is cleaned up.

302 A cargo handler at Kennedy Airport was busted yesterday for stealing from packages meant for US troops and their families overseas, sources said. Terrance A. Ralph, 41, of Brooklyn, was arrested wearing a $100 watch, a $300 bracelet and a $150 cell phone heÂ’d stolen from the packages, said a source. Postal inspectors got suspicious after receiving reports that packages were already opened when they arrived at a sorting facility in Germany. They traced the opened packages back to a sorting facility at Kennedy Airport, said a spokeswoman for the Postal Inspection Service. Inspectors put Ralph under surveillance, and arrested him on Wednesday afternoon at the sorting facility at KennedyÂ’s Building 250. HeÂ’s charged in Queens Criminal Court with criminal possession of stolen property and petty larceny, both misdemeanors. This guy should be strung up by his balls

Sounds to me like he was in possession of enough property to rack up with grand larceny which is a felony.

Heh.

Under the guise of protecting us from $600 toilet seats, congress has already "cleaned up" the procurement process.

Meaning overburdened it with regulations and laden it with abilities for members of congress to steer needless projects to their own districts.

323 They don't want to go on record, but they also don't want the Republicans to have any say whatsoever in the budget. Zero. So they are just violating the US Constitution and just not passing a budget. And nobody is holding them accountable. Harry Reid refused to pass a budget last year and got reelected. There's simply no price for them to do this.

I used to have this same sort of argument in Israel about arabs with Eurotrash.  They loved the arabs and would go on and on about them and how their language was so beautiful and they made beautiful poetry ...

My response would just be, "You're impressed with the poetic prowess of a people whose language hasn't changed measurably in 2,000 years and who comprise one of the most illiterate populations on the planet?"

That would usually shut the eurotrash up pretty quickly.  The afghans are even worse than the arabs in both respects.  It's laughable.
