Obama's Secretary Of Health And Human Services Broke Federal Law
— DrewM

Clearly, the timing of Mitt Romney's statement on the Mideast is to blame.

The Office of the Special Counsel on Wednesday announced it was citing Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius for illegally making political comments at an official event, which is a violation of the federal Hatch Act.

The counsel found that she made the comments when delivering the keynote speech at the Human Rights Campaign Gala in February.

After the apparent Hatch Act violation emerged, her office reclassified the trip from official to political and she reimbursed the government for associated expenses.

Wait. She retroactively reclassified the event and that makes it ok?

Man, I'm so old I remember when breaking federal law was enough to get you sent to jail. It's almost as if the same rules don't apply if you're a Democrat.

Even if there were no criminal charges brought you'd think a sense of decency would lead an official to resign for this kind of misconduct. Of course first you'd have to find a Democrat with a sense of decency. Good luck with that.

Update: Here's how the process works from this point forward.

The matter now has been referred to President Obama, who has the statutory responsibility to take “appropriate action” in light of the OSC’s finding that Secretary Sebelius violated the Hatch Act. The presumptive penalty for a Hatch Act violation is termination from government employment, which, if challenged, can be reduced to a suspension of no less than 30 days without pay. Notably, a former U.S. attorney was suspended last year for 100 days for a violation that was considerably more nuanced than the violation by Secretary Sebelius.

Oh, I'm sure Obama will be really tough on her.

Personally I think she should return her Salary for that day as well (and any travel days.  Assume she makes a paltry $160,000/year (lowball to make the math easy.) That's $640/8 hour work day we're paying her to shill for Obama.  Every day she campagins she should return that.

In her letter, Sebelius took issue with the special counsel pursuing the "minor" issue to this point, rather than considering it rectified when the trip was reclassified and expense repaid.

"I believe that you should have concluded that any violation was corrected when the event was reclassified as political," she wrote. "I believe that you should have concluded that the consequence of my going 'off script' at an official event was to change the nature of my appearance for cost reimbursement purposes only."

I watched the movie.  It doesn't really depict he's gay.  Two guys are talking and one says "is he gay?" and the other says something like "I think so" and he asks again "Is the master gay?"......

The movie is really non eventful, but not far off in accuracy.

The fact that they're using it as an excuse for this is quite pathetic.

65Oh, and by the way: how many federal laws has Osama Obama broken? Even leaving aside his earlier drug abuse -- statute of limitations, and all that -- I suspect his list of federal crimes would be longer than the total of presidents 1-43.

If he passed a joint on to someone else (big if--intercept!!) wouldn't he be guilty of trafficing in narcotics, not just abusing drugs.  I don't know what the difference would be to statutory limits but distributing is different from possession.

Al Wa-Po OpEd Obama Skipped Intel Brief YESTERDAY

The president was scheduled to hold the intelligence meeting at 10:50 a.m. Wednesday, the day after the attacks, but it was canceled so that he could comfort grieving employees at the State Department — as well he should. But instead of rescheduling the intelligence briefing for later in the day, Obama apparently chose to skip it altogether and attend a Las Vegas fundraiser for his re-election campaign. One day after a terrorist attack.

127 One shortcoming of the Hatch Act was that removal from office was the only penalty. In the case of department heads, who may have disproportionate influence, this hardly seems to make up for the harm.

The majority of those restricted by the Hatch Act were freed from its strictures, with a great deal of ballyhoo about rural letter carriers now being able to run for school board, and such-like.

It was in 1996, I guess, when I was working for a federal department, and our "house organ" came out with a cover picture of Hillary saying "no employees will be laid off if my husband is elected." I bitched a blue streak, wrote a letter and got a head-pat response, forwarded the contents  to the GOP house leadership, etc. Three years later, the moved-on editor of that newsletter was on the committee choosing the site of the next DNC.

This list is never ending but you get the point, laws/rules do not apply to Democrats and won't until the whole deal crashes with the people erecting guillotine's, by then it is way to late for any of it to matter.

190 Just read some new details.Apparently the Ambassador and another were lost in the first attack on the consulate, the rest were moved and a QRF was dispatched from Tripoli to help the Libyan troops(8 Marines).Apparently one of these Marines was the 4th victim. This was from Reuters Africa. Captain Fathi al-Obeidi, whose special operations unit was ordered by Libya’s authorities to meet an eight-man force at Benghazi airport, said that after his men and the U.S. squad had found the American survivors who had evacuated the blazing consulate, the ostensibly secret location in an isolated villa came under an intense and highly accurate mortar barrage. “I really believe that this attack was planned,” he said, adding to suggestions by other Libyan officials that at least some of the hostility towards the Americans was the work of experienced combatants. “The accuracy with which the mortars hit us was too good for any regular revolutionaries.” [ ... ] Of the eight American troops who had come from Tripoli, one was killed and two were wounded, Obeidi said. A Libyan deputy interior minister said a second American was also killed in the attack on the safe house. It was not clear if this was a diplomat or one of the consulate’s original security detail.

191 Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, who proposed the measure, celebrated its passage on Twitter.

“NYC’s new sugary drink policy is the single biggest step any gov’t has taken to curb #obesity,” he wrote. “It will help save lives.”

The measure, unless blocked by a judge, will take effect in six months. The health board vote was the only regulatory approval needed to become binding in the city, but the American soft-drink industry has strongly opposed the plan and vowed this week to try to fight the measure by other means, possibly in the courts.

Well, Armageddon is in Israel. Spelled "Megiddo" there. Site of the first recorded cavalry battle in history, 15th cent BC, and the last, 1918 AD. Also where the composite bow was first used. A long bow.

So, there have been at least three Armageddons already, and the Palis lost every time. And yet they want another.

I'm not a great intellect, researcher, or writer so I'm tossing this idea out to the readers of this blog in the hopes that someone more capable will run with it.

Is the mainstream media itself responsible for the destruction of the modern Democratic Party? Are they like the dysfunctional parents that protect their child from every boo-boo and make sure that their child doesn't have to face the consequences of their mistakes? Now the spoiled kid has grown up to be an irresponsible adult that feels free to lie, cheat, and steal while knowing that Mom and Dad will cover for them.
