I've got some personal work I have to do today. Not really day off. Neither was the whole weekend.

But I'll be away from the computer.

Forget the birther nonsense, etc. Former Intelligence Committee staffer and author Angelo Codevilla establishes that Obama grew up in a world deeply influenced by the CIA, among other establishment institutions. The key here is his life in Indonesia. Did you know his mother's supervisor was one Peter Geithner? The lead-in to this:

Consistent with the Barack Obama we know, however, are his real family, his real upbringing, and his real choices of profession and associates. His mother's parents, who raised him, seem to have been cogs in the U.S. government's well-heeled, well-connected machine for influencing the world, whether openly ("gray influence") or covertly ("black operations"). His mother spent her life and marriages, and birthed her children, working in that machine. For paradigms of young Barack's demeanor, proclivities, opinions, language, and attitudes one need look no further than the persons who ran the institutions that his mother and grandparents served--e.g., the Ford Foundation, the United States Information Agency, and the Central Intelligence Agency--as well as his chosen mentors and colleagues. It is here, with these people and institutions, that one should begin to unravel the unknowns surrounding him.At the very least one can conclude that far from being on the outs, young Obama was always part of a segment of this country's ruling elite.

46 Wisconsin Dems furious with DNC for refusing to invest big money in Walker recall. WI Dems to DNC: "Scott Walker has the full support and backing of the Republican Party. We are not getting similar support.”

http://wapo.st/JOlkkR

According to the Wisconsin Dem, the party has asked the DNC for $500,000 to help with its massive field operation. While the DNC has made generally supportive noises, the money has not been forthcoming, the official says — with less than a month until the June 5th recall election. The DNC did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

ObamaÂ’s political operation is providing volunteers with info on how to get involved in the recall battle and how to register to vote, but isnÂ’t investing any money in the race.

50 Although it did not come to pass in Vallejo, unions representing police officers, firefighters and other local workers were worried that a federal bankruptcy judge might be willing to abrogate their contracts and perhaps even reduce retirement benefits.

By routing bankruptcies through the state agency, union leaders clearly hoped, officials of insolvent local governments could be barred from seeking payroll relief.

What makes this all the more galling to Wisconsin Dems is that a Walker win could be bad for the national partyÂ’s prospects in November.

The new ad drew immediate fire from a former economic adviser to the president, Steven Rattner, dubbed the "Car Czar" because he oversaw the Administration's automobile industry overhaul. Noting the video's focus on lost jobs, Rattner said "this is part of capitalism, this is part of life, and I don't think there's anything Bain Capital did that they need to be embarrassed about."

101 74 CommentsCampaign 2012 Obama ad calls Mitt Romney’s Bain Capital firm a ‘vampire’ Posted by Rachel Weiner at 08:51 AM ET, 05/14/2012 Text Size PrintE-mailReprints Share: More > President Obama’s campaign is out with a tough new ad, “Steel,” attacking former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney’s record on job creation. The two-minute ad focuses on GS Technologies, a steel mill in Kansas City, Mo., that was bought by Romney’s private equity firm Bain Capital and went bankrupt soon after. The ad paints Romney as out of touch with the needs of the local workers and concerned only with Bain’s own profits. “We view Mitt Romney as a job destroyer,” says one former mill worker in the ad. Another calls Bain “a vampire. They came in and sucked the life out of us.” The steel firm closed in 2001 and Romney left Bain Capitol on 1999 to run the Olympics. obama and his commie pals are in panic mode and it shows.

104 So, let me get this straight; our first Black President was a serial sexual harasser and was white, our actual first Black President is a muslim marxist and is the first Ghey President?

Why don't they just call a spa . . . no, I better not.

Why can't the Democrats come out of the closet? Isn't it interesting that the leftist liberals call conservatives GAY as a pejorative?

Very telling I think. Plus anyone not black enough gets the Uncle tom or house n****r label IF they're not Democrat.

Seems THEY'RE the ones who are fixated on race and are the sexual harassers and the homophobes.

The basic definition of a 'Hate Crime'....is that it is  "motivated by a hostility towards a group, based on race, creed, gender or sexual orientation".

Gays reject  the  heterosexual lifestyle....and display a hostility towards heterosexuals in many ways. ....So, one could say, that demanding that the definition of Marriage be changed, to force gay marriage upon the country as a whole....is by definition, a Hate Crime.

116 "

Some analysts say Bain should not be blamed for the company's failure, noting that a wave of cheap imports forced nearly half of the U.S. steel industry into bankruptcy during that period. Another company set up around the same time, in which Bain took a minority stake, Steel Dynamics in Fort Wayne, Indiana, thrived.

"GS and Steel Dynamics were about as different as it gets," industry analyst Michelle Applebaum said. GS's core products were vulnerable to competition while Steel Dynamics became "one of the country's lowest-cost manufacturers of steel sheet," a product with more staying power. Steel Dynamics was also a non-union shop."

But yes, Romney bought GS so he could make hello salad with the blood of union workers.

125 Realizing that Obama's reelection is in serious jeopardy, the President's campaign today released a two-minute ad slamming Mitt Romney for layoffs made at a company controlled by Bain Capital. The ad is built around interviews with former steelworkers at GST Steel, a mill in Kansas City, who were laid off as the company collapsed in the wake of a downturn in the steel market. The ad is certainly gripping and emotional. It is also, however, completely wrong. The company was shut down in 2001. Romney left Bain in 1999, long before the plant closing, to run Winter Olympics. Two years is an eternity in the business world. Blaming Romney for decisions made two years after the left the company is at best disingenuous. However, there was a political power-player serving as a director of Bain at the time of the company's bankruptcy and layoffs--Jonathan Lavine. Lavine joined Bain in 1993. He is currently Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer. He is also a major bundler for Barack Obama, raising between $100-200k for the his reelection. While we don't know the specific role Lavine had in decisions regarding the bankrupt company, he certainly had more influence than someone who had left Bain two years before. Perhaps Obama should use some of Lavine's donations to help the steelworkers featured in his ad.

154 Well this would be funny if it weren't so sad and didn't involve mass censorship. Iran has been getting a lot of attention lately for its plans to increase its internet filtering -- and potentially even set up its own "safe" (read: heavily monitored) local internet. For now, as the filters have been going up, apparently lots of sophisticated internet users in Iran have been figuring out how to get around them. No problem. Iran's "supreme leader" Ayatollah Ali Khamenei simply issued a "fatwa" against using anti-filtering tools -- and that was published to the web.... where it was promptly filtered. Yes, you read that right. His attack on anti-filtering technology was itself a victim of the filter -- such that you couldn't read it unless you were using anti-filtering technology (the same technology the fatwa was condemning).

Apparently this happened because (of course) Iran's internet filter is so ridiculously unsophisticated that it works based on keywords -- and the mere mentioning of anti-filtering software likely set off the filters. Of course, while you might hope this would lead to a realization that such filters are not a good idea, somehow I doubt there will be any such epiphany.

I've taken a liking to streaming Chris Plante in the morning.  He talked about this a lot today.  He also stated that Bain invested in two steel companies (this one being one of them) by helping them update their operations and turn their failing company around.  I don't know the status of the other steel company vs. the workers highlighted in this one...but Plante did say that this company's employees were union and the other was not.

But as Romeo13 said, the truth doesn't matter.  They just have to reach the low info voter who won't look into the actual facts.

188 That little story was supposed to be parable and may or may not be true just like his story about the "New York Girlfriend." It may be a composite meant to inform us about some formative thing in Obama's makeup. In this case, he was peer pressured into bullying someone - he admits that he was weak - and that because he felt guilty about it, he has since given money to panhandlers, etc. It is meant to tell us that having been forced into being an oppressor, he now cares about "people like you" - people who are downtrodden, victims, different, etc. But, hell, it is likely made up. And whether he cares about little girls like Coretta (excellent catch, grognard, because the name is for sure made up) I am pretty sure he doesn't care about people like *me*.

I don't think I've ever seen such a look of misery and dejection on the face of my daughter as I just did a moment ago. She just couldn't understand why Barack Obama would bully a fat black girl. "Even though Oprah endorsed him for President?" she asked pitifully.

I sat down with her on the sofa and (as calmly as I could) tried to explain to her how the book with the bullying scene was really written by a white man who is a true believer and warrior for the cause of social justice, who was trying to illustrate that Our Gay-Black Messiah was once a child oppressed by racism and heteronormativism, and how lucky we are that he grew into the brave Lightworker we elected in 2008...

I tried to keep my voice steady, but it became increasingly difficult - the rage and feelings of helplessness were just too much. I think my daughter could tell something was wrong. I found myself at such a loss for words - nothing made any sense; nothing makes sense anymore. I finally had to admit, "Honey, I just don't know - I don't know why our Savior is really a failed human putz."

When I finished her lower lip started to tremble and her eyes began to fill with tears, "Daddy" she said, "why is the media letting this be talked about? Don't they realize there is an existential war on? Don't they know there may be a Supreme Court opening to fill?" Well, that was it for me: I finally fell apart. She just fell into my arms and we both began sobbing for several minutes.

For once she had to comfort me and get me back on my feet. Sometimes I just think it's too much, but seeing the strength in my young daughter's voice as she reminded me of Bill Ayers' famous quote ''I don't regret setting bombs.  I feel we didn't do enough.'' helped me to get through.

These days, there's lots of countries with less hostile business environments than the USA.   The USA as the world understood it for the past 60 years is gasping its last dying breaths, and I don't see anyone in the political class who is treating this seriously.

The economic plenty of the post war era was due to a "last man standing" phenomenon that persisted for about 40 years.  We literally had no viable international competition, because they'd all been decimated during the war.

That "grace period" is over, gone, kaput, but nobody wants to recognize or accept that we're now in a painful period of "reversion to the norm" where we don't have that post-war advantage, and in fact we're cripplingly handicapped by idiotic policies that assumed that era of plenty was the new normal for the USA rather than a special one-time gift.

218 But why did Kodak have a hidden nuclear reactor loaded with weapons-grade uranium? And how did they get permission to own it, let alone install it in a basement in the middle of a densely populated city?

Nobody really knows. Kodak officials now admit that they never made any public announcement about it. In fact, nobody in the city—officials, police or firemen—or in the state of New York or anywhere else knew about it until it was recently leaked by an ex-employee. Its existence and whereabouts were purposely kept vague and only a few engineers and Federal employees really knew about the project.

It's extremely strange that Kodak managed to get something like this. According to Miles Pomper, from the Center for Nonproliferation Studies in Washington. it's "such an odd situation because private companies just don't have this material." While 3.5 pounds of weapons-grade uranium is not enough to create a nuclear bomb, illegal arm merchants are seeking small amounts like this to put them for sale in the black market—which is why the United States has such a tight control on this material. The government doesn't want Iran or al-Qaeda getting their hands all over the atomic candy for obvious reasons.

Kodak's purpose for the reactor wasn't sinister: they used it to check materials for impurities as well as neutron radiography testing. The reactor, a Californium Neutron Flux multiplier (CFX) was acquired in 1974 and loaded with three and a half pounds of enriched uranium plates placed around a californium-252 core.

Scientists say the 360,000 tonnes of milk wasted in the UK each year creates greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to 100,000 tonnes of CO2. The study by the University of Edinburgh says this is the same as is emitted by about 20,000 cars annually..."

The Brits are intent on marching single file into idiocy. .....There was something in the news last week, about a new rule for the public school teachers over there....

'Teachers are forbidden from marking more than 3 misspelled words as 'wrong' on a student's paper.' .....That will probably catch on soon over here, too.  *facepalm*

I'm sure this has been discussed here at the HQ, but I missed it.    Anyway, the unconscionable intelligence leak last week about the CIA foiling a new version of the "underwear bomb?"  Yeah, turns out it wasn't the CIA.

At the PJ Tatler:  http://tiny.cc/v37aew

BOMBSHELL: Al-Qaeda Infiltrator was Working for Brits not CIA, Cover Blown for Election Year Politics

Just a week ago the establishment media was aflutter with news that a CIA double-agent had thwarted a new type of underwear bomb attack targeting U.S. flights in a plot devised by al-Qaeda of the Arabian Peninsula.

But as the week progressed, a developing bombshell story got buried under President ObamaÂ’s gay marriage announcement. Not only is the supposed CIA asset not a CIA asset at all, but the entire operation was exposed prematurely and the double-agentÂ’s life was immediately threatened by an intelligence leak that very well may have come out of the White House for political gain...

They'll SUGGEST that individuals only purchase X-liters of milk per week.  If you choose to buy more than that you can, but you'll be charged an additional "carbon offset" tax     for every     extra liter.      Bank on it.

Yeah, I've seen the "carbon footprint of wasted food destroying the planet" crap out of Britain before, with the exhortations to buy less food.  You greedy bastards, how DARE you buy six bananas when you can only eat five before they go bad?!

And Britain has garbage police to sort through people's refuse and harass pensioners if they accidentally put a #2 plastic container in the recycle bin for #1 plastic (let alone actually into the *gasp* trash).

Meanwhile, Islamists on welfare agitate against the British government. Ho-hum.

“WeÂ’re not a party of ‘young guns,Â’ ” bemoans one senior party strategist, a reference to the 40-something clique of House GOP leaders—Reps. Eric Cantor of Virginia, Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, and Kevin McCarthy of California.

“Just look at the landscape. There’s a real dearth of talented, dynamic communicators right now in the caucus,” said the source, who requested anonymity in order to speak freely about the leadership. “People are either too liberal, or too conservative … or too old.”

That is debatable; that the triumvirate of House Democratic leaders assuredly is not composed of “young guns” is not.

Pelosi, of California, and Minority Whip Steny Hoyer of Maryland are both 72. Assistant Minority Leader James Clyburn of South Carolina, the highest-ranking African-American member of Congress, is 71. By comparison, Speaker John Boehner of Ohio is 62, Majority Leader Cantor is 48, and Majority Whip McCarthy is 47.
