— Ace Ann Romney is a serious natural in front of a camera. This could be... not a game-changer, but at least a needle-twitcher.
They're also in talks to get Michelle Obama. But she's a known quantity-- she already has her fans and she already is providing that Humanizing thing for her husband. Ann Romney has not had that kind of exposure.
This will be on October 10th.
Romney will co-host the morning program alongside RobertÂ’s co-anchor George Stephanopoulos....

Fox just replayed the entrance of both candidates onto the debate stage. Romney looked like a confident businessman preparing to present a complicated plan for growth, and Obama walked and acted like a Chicago pimp. The only thing missing was the ostrich plume hat.

There's a friend of my wife's who is one of those loca-vores and into the whole organic bullshit. Every summer, my son gets invited to her son's birthday party where she serves nothing but carrot sticks, cucumber slices, and grapes as party snacks. Her birthday "cake" for her son is made out of something called carob, which apparently is a chocolate substitute. I did not realize this until I took a bite and almost retched into my lap. How this woman thinks children will like this is beyond me.

This is probably a good move. Unless she says something just completely stupid it won't hurt anything, and even GMA can't afford to be too antagonistic to her; they'll look like big meanies picking on a woman, and she'll look yet more sympathetic.
Importantly, the social shows (the morning shows, the late-night shows, etc) have gotten so used to Obama showing up whenever they want, that they're getting belligerent (or at least bellicose) over the fact that Romney hasn't.
This is a good way to throw them a bone while still having Mitt avoid them.

At whatever point it needs to occur, the media has to change over to their nice act, since we're going to have a new Administration in Washington. They have to play the game according to their script, which means they're non-partisan, especially with wives, and especially during the self-imposed "honeymoon" period.
Sometime around March or April of 2013 though, the script flips again, and it'll be the darker tone in Washington, the missed opportunities for the Romney Administration to reach across the aisle, etc...
You all know what it is like, you've seen it before. I thought Laura Bush was about as gracious and wise as it is possible for a First Lady to be, but it will be interesting to see how Ann handles it. She is, as you say, a natural. I bet she's able to adopt some of the Laura Bush graciousness, and at the same time, have the ability to kick the snot out of these people the way Laura's Mother-in-Law could.

Jackie Kennedy wasn't some kind of wonderful person. She's the one who came up with the 'Camelot' nonsense. Like many First Ladies, she was in it to aggrandize herself through her husband (who she knew was screwing everything in a dress.)

You certainly express a lot of faith in Ann's skills on live camera debating Georgy Stepho who will smile throughout his effortless persistent antagonisms.
Ann couldn't even contain her disdain for Christy on live broadcast at the Convention, feeling "threatened" after her love speech was followed by his respect speech, as if it was all about her somehow getting disrespected.
Ann might win debates with Mitt at home. But George is not Mitt. And George monopolizes GMA on a daily basis. If Ann plays demure, George will ridicule her for not having any independent opinions. If Ann says what she thinks, George will twist everything to her disadvantage.
But sure, Ann might end up being the match for Margaret Thatcher to the degree that Mitt resembled Reagan's confidence last night. Good for her if she holds her own, even if she determines to contain whatever "her own" will include for the public on air. After all, Ann might well win debates with Mitt. And Mitt certainly performed with flying colors.
