On second thought...Facebook may not be worth $38/share [Journolist]
— Open Blogger

It seems the bloom is off the FaceBook rose...perhaps good ol' FB was never a rose to begin with. I mean a company that launches an IPO in mid-May (with the flash and dash of a busby berkeley show on roids) at $38 bucks a share with over a $100B plus in market cap And then 60 days later drops to $23.70 / share losing over $50 Billion in shareholder value bears a striking resemblance to the Hope and Change bill of goods that went IPO back in 08.

I ain't got any links. Last time I linked something, blog went bust and the whole thing went right justified...heh, right justified, I like the ring to that.

Oh, and I recently read in one of my ADD trade mags that misspelling is now cool, so save your breath on any foot-fault typos.

Now go watch the 5.5 hours of Olympics...watch for the dip or at least have some...its brutal.

3 Facebook is worth about $8-$10/share - and that's if they don't fuck up even more than they've been doing.  But, the joke's on their "investors" as the company collected more money in its IPO than the whole company was legitimately worth.  It's all gravy, now.

I've wondered the same thing too.

Is that how they make money?

That's what they have access to.

Insiders made some loot.

The thing is is that FB while adding users is not adding ad revenue in step and Zuckerberg in his conf. call while trying to upsell the potential for mobile smart phones, did not adequately address how FB would harnass the new jump from PC's to smartphones in terms of hwo FB will be able to grow ad rev on smart phone devices where the utility is great but where advertisers can't see a solid plan.

I see a lot of parallels to Obama and FB.  Recall, it was Obama who lauded FB as a great company despite its lack of a business plan beyond hype.

Facebook has become so popular that it is no longer popular with the young demo who drive revenue dollars.

FB should change its name to Facebox.

He never had the skills to be running anything.  He shouldn't be CEO of Facebook, but he owns all the voting shares so he'll be running the company even if he slls all of his common shares.

That was another thing about Facebook, it's worth $8-$10/share, but only if you are buying control in it, which is not for sale.  I always tell people that they are total idiots if they buy stock in any company with separate voting shares and have no voting rights, to speak of.  They might as well buy debt, instead, since that's all they really get with non-voting shares.  Debt, without the company owing them anything and without any claims in bankruptcy proceedings - not that any leftist company is forced to actually experience real bankruptcy anymore.

I've always taken a dim view of those share repurchases.  The companies don't retire the stock, they just keep it in the treasury, so it can come back into circulation at any moment.  The float is reduced, but that's it.  The value of the company per share really doesn't change.  I bet the Poison Pill boys love that move

I don't fault Wall Street or the companies for pulling these tricks.  It's not like they're hiding the truth from anyone.  People just refuse to see what is there.

88 Yeah that's obvious, but is this all ad revenue?

Posted by: Samuel Adams at July 27, 2012 08:17 PM (ZOf1l)

I don't know the specifics.  I think they got 70% from ads and the rest from collecting protection for Zynga and such.  I don't know what they make just selling database info on their suckers - don't know if they even do, but I would assume so.

Posted by: ThePrimordialOrderedPair at July 27, 2012 04:19 PM (X3lox)

89 Facebook is also selling data mining.  When you sign on to a site with your facebook account, you agree to let that site access your account and your FRIENDS.  This builds a data base for them to send shit to you and your friends.  Facebook is also mining what you look at and is trying, like Google, to customize advertisements to you.

Never use your facebook account to sign in to anything, unless you want all your shit to become public knowledge.

92 Facebook's ads were always pretty worthless.  I mean hell why even bother with an ad if you're a company?  Make a page, stick the link in your REAL ads and watch the facebook users connect to you on their own voluntarily.  Stick up the deals and information you want them to have and you have now gained free advertising to your customer base.  And facebook can't go and charge people for their service.  You know what facebook with a subscription fee is called?  Classmates.com.

The Krebs cycle is a series of enzymatic reactions that catalyzes the aerobic metabolism of fuel molecules to carbon dioxide and water, thereby generating energy for the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) molecules. The Krebs cycle is so named because many of its steps were elucidated by the work of the British biochemist Sir Hans Adolf Krebs, one of the 1953 Nobel Prize winners for Physiology or Medicine.

The Carnot cycle is a reversible cycle in the state space of a thermodynamic system. The prototype system going through Carnot cycles is a Carnot engine, a hypothetical engine that converts heat (thermal energy) into work (mechanical energy). The Carnot cycle is named for the French physicist Sadi Carnot, who studied and wrote about the efficiency of steam engines in the 1820s and conceived his virtual, idealized, version of one.

I studied them both in college while pursuing my degrees in chemistry. And now you know... the rest of the story!

My wife's still on FB and a friend of hers made a disparaging comment about the cost of one of Moocheles wardrobe. I told her that her comment was about as tame as you could get. I also told her to add another comment comparing Moochele to Harrison Ford's co-pilot in Star Wars but she shot me down.

Back when Apple was only making computers, it could keep new design announcements secret until the last moment.
Now, with billions of dollars on the line and a whole host of service providers like AT&T, Sprint, T-mobile and Verizon pounding on your door to synchronize product announcements, it's almost impossible to keep them secret any more.
iPhone sales were down 23% for the quarter because of rumours that the iPhone 5 product announcement is only months away.
