— Open Blogger While looking for material for the Sunday book thread, I came across one of Aesop's fables from a collection in a free Kindle book. Unlike some of his others, there's no explicitly stated "moral" to it, so the reader ls left to ponder its meaning himself. I think I know what it means, but I'm not sure. Either way, it just seems strangely appropriate for our day and age.
The Kingdom of the Lion
The Beasts of the field and forest had a Lion as their king. He was neither wrathful, cruel, nor tyrannical, but just and gentle as a king could be. During his reign he made a royal proclamation for a general assembly of all the birds and beasts, and drew up conditions for a universal league, in which the Wolf and the Lamb, the Panther and the Kid, the Tiger and the Stag, the Dog and the Hare, should live together in perfect peace and amity. The Hare said, “Oh, how I have longed to see this day, in which the weak shall take their place with impunity by the side of the strong.” And after the Hare said this, he ran for his life.
So I guess some things never change. Also, this graphic representation of all of the on-screen zombie slayings in The Walking Dead since the very first episode by someone with way too much time on his hands was provided by a moron in an earlier thread, but I forget who, so thank you, whoever you are.
[Update]: It was moron commenter RWC who first posted a link to the WD statistics graphs.

That you can't expect someone to change their true nature?

15 Plus, at the seven that one ME examined, were shot 3-11 times. With a rifle, wouldn't that take a long time?

I thought he had a couple of hand guns, too.
The ME also said that a lot of the wounds were 'at close range'.

Doesn't mean he put three in each before moving to the next. He could have gone back and simply executed the wounded. I don't think someone who could shoot his own mom in the face would flinch from any horror.

Liberal progressives like to preach Darwin's Theory of Evolution.
They fully embrace the concept.
Except...when it comes to the 'survival of the fittest' part, for their own species.

4Chan tends to draft up fakes after each tragedy. They did so after Auroa and the the Giffords shooting IIRC. Some photoshops and such to change timestamps.
It usually takes a day or two to verify the fakeness. But that place really is the cestpool of the internet believing that "no press is bad press".

Nah the phrase itself goes back to the 1920s and 30s IIRC. It was an actual attempt to apply Darwin's work to society.
(Wikipedia says 1887, but it really became popular during the eugenics movements of the 20s and 30s if memory serves.)

FWIW, the original argument (under Eugenics of course) was how great the idea all the free market was (because they thought it would get rid of the unworthy.)
Vonnegut may have turned that on it's head and used it as a capitalism attack.
But both were fundamentally flawed of course, the former doesn't take into account any individual charity, the value of life etc. The latter is a horrible straw man against capitalism (but a strawman at least some what rooted in what people were actually saying.)
They're really two sides of the same coin.

For a while, he always had to pick famous people for his monicker when he posted even if he knew nothing about them. There are two things you can be sure of when it comes to erg, stupidity and insecurity a plenty.

Yes. WBC is a useful idiot organization for the left, in that they are the enemy of the enemy. They attack nonpartisans (who are likely right-leaning) for supporting the leftist agenda by doing things completely unrelated to that agenda, the "church" members are completely crazypants and thus easily deniable, and...well, actually that's all I had. It seems like you should always have 3 points, but sometimes you don't.

Currently, network cameras and announcers ignore fans that run onto the field at baseball and football games. This is done to discourage those attention-seekers who might otherwise choose that route to some achieve some media time.
Perhaps we adopt a similar tactic within the news media and simply not release the names of these mass murders until much later, like in court?
That might negate the actions of some copy-cat type monster.
Would witholding the name violate the public's right to know, and would the media ever agree to restrain themselves?

School Prayer leads to a strong moral fabric for society. Before 1962 there was less crime, more functional families and a healthy society. America's moral decline can be raced directly to the banning of school prayer.

As a devout Christian I'm actually not in favor of returning prayer to the classroom at this point. It's been long enough that too many students don't know what prayer looks like any more and I'm pretty sure that any "prayer" will be chosen for ecumenicalness not just among denominations (which I wouldn't mind) but among religions. Or else it'll be "Monday is Hindu prayer day, etc."

The allure of the Hi-Point is it's price.
I have a Hi-Point 9mm and .40 S&W. total for both guns $400.00.
A Sig Sauer 226 9mm will run you $1,000.00
Their rifle line starts at $350.00 dollars a comparable Bushmaster will run you about $1,600.00
The Hi-Points are big, heavy and ugly but they work and are dirt cheap.

He is said to have had two handguns a Sig Sauer p226 which has a 10-15 round magazine, a Glock 9mm which has a 15 round magazine and the Bushmaster which has a 30 round magazine so without reloading he

That's the way it starts in every dictatorship and banana republic. It will only be a matter of time before the benevolent government decides you are some kind of threat or undesireable. When that happens and you plead for your freedom or even your life you'll wish you could defend yourself, or that someone could defend you (likely the latter cause you sound like a typical liberal pussy).

The MP Sport is not only the cheapest, it sneaks in with some very high-quality features that you pay extra for, e.g. the R5 rifling and melonite instead of chrome. I wish the Sport was around back when I bought my AR - I'd have saved some money. Got a great deal on a RRA middy, but still...
Bushy is now part of the Freedom Group, which owns Remington and other brands. QA is the same, but mfg. has been moved. The original Bushmaster employees have banded together and created Windham Weaponry as a response.

Yes. Heard a supposed "forensics expert" on Fox & Friends this morning refer to hollowpoints as "the worst kind of bullets around, cop killers, can penetrate body armor no problem" etc. No wonder the general public hasn't the slightest bit of basic firearms knowledge.

But the misinformation in the media is flying fast and furious, so to speak.

Yes, it's generally called OTM (open-tipped match). It's purpose is not at all the same as hollowpoint pistol ammo, which is intended to expand quickly. .223 OTM vs. standard FMJ moves the center of gravity back more to the rear of the bullet, which allows for greater stability at longer ranges. It does nothing for lethality; it's for precision at longer ranges.

Bought a 709 when they first came out and hated hated hated it. Rotten trigger, bad recoil. Replaced with a Kahr PM9 and much happier with it as my summer gun.

"Libs prefer to strip the rights of millions of gun owners rather than impose on the freedom of their kindred spirits (the insane)."
Best I could come up with at exactly 130 characters (minus quotes).

The frog is afraid of being stung during the trip, but the scorpion argues that if it stung the frog, the frog would sink and the scorpion would drown.
The frog agrees and begins carrying the scorpion, but midway across the river the scorpion does indeed sting the frog, dooming them both.
When asked why, the scorpion explains that this is simply its nature.
The fable is used to illustrate the view that the behaviour of some creatures, or of some people, is irrepressible, no matter how they are treated and no matter what the consequences.
