There was a discussion of redoing Swamp Thing. As a PG-13 movie. It was the one thing that everyone I knew, right or left, military supporter or pacifist, agreed upon. We all agreed that was an abomination.

DaveA,

Sorry I thought is was you. Anyways I have a full disk and I found where all the space has gones (sorta) 250 gb is taken up by the "user folder" with my name on it. That file contains folders titled documents, pictures, desktop etc.

The thing is when you check the size of each folder in the main folder and add them up they don't even come close to the amount of disk space used by the main folder.

If you add all the folders up that are in the main user folder you only get about 4 gb but the size of the main folder is 250 gb.

anyone have a clue why that is?

Then they show Chris Evert in the broadcast booth. About 5 of her arms wouldn't be as big around.

Yeah....that was before the scourge of the Reality Show began.

Now there are several reality shows about 'swamp people'.

22 There was also Son of the Blob, which was directed by Larry Hagman.

They sold a re-release with the caption: "See the Movie that J.R. shot!"

23 I get the theme song...then the video locks up. It has a campy "Batman meets Willy Wonka's Oompa-loompa's" vibe to it.

Question though...Does Steve McQueen ever make an appearance?

30 Nothing beats Halloween for scary.

That's one of those movies that isn't nearly as bloody as you remember it being. It is utterly terrifying though.

If you're after more psychological horror, you won't go wrong with Session 9 or Frailty.  The Minus Man is also very creepy but can be more than a bit slow in parts.  The ending to that is chilling in its implications.

Saw this flick when it first came out.  Had to sneak away to see it because the folks didn't want a 9 year old to watch something like that.

For the time, it was wonderfully scary.  Gave me nightmares for a month, but it hooked me on genre.  Another early movie that had me shivering in the dark for weeks was "Mr. Sardonicus".

36 I can't tell, but it seems that WZ is trying to make me start drinking.  The first of three stories is that more people went on SSDI last month than got jobs.  IOW, this is the newest way for O to buy off his constituents with our money.  Next up is how a guy in Iraq killed himself and 6 members OF HIS OWN FAMILY because his cousin supported the government.  He blew them up.
Finally, there is a picture of a Taliban preparing to blow off a woman's head because he claimed she committed adultery.

The world is just a derecho of suck right now.

@33

As far as creepy endings go.....the ending in the movie, 'The Mist', is just horrible.

It spoiled that movie for me.

Steven King didn't write it. The ending in his book was very different.

When the screen writers came up with that horrible ending....King read it and loved it, so that's what they ran with.

There are gulls in Utah.

I've wondered how they happened to get there.

There's an ancient North American Flyway that runs up through OK, KS, and up.

I had always figured that is how the gulls and egrets got here to OK.

There are also the remnants of hurricanes and tropical storms that end up here....maybe some of them got blown up here that way.

Disk space math is an arcane practice of numerology guaranteed to drive you straight to buying a bigger disk!.

2 + 2 = 47!

rounding, cluster size, etc., links,

Start -> Computer, right click the drive, click Properties, in tab Tools there is Error Checking, Defrag and backup.

do both Defrag and DskChk sp?  including a bad sector scan.  Since it's your boot drive you'll probably have to tic a schedule pre-next boot and restart the PC to get DskChk.

Heh.

Maybe that's why the ones around here are so skitish and well-behaved.

The times I have been to the coast....where there are great numbers of them....the gulls are very brazen and cocky.

Ok I will try that. I am doing defrag and WinDirStrit now so I don't think I can do anything else until they are finished and looks like that might be sometime next week.

The thing is that if users is my stuff there is no way I have 250 gb of my stuff on it. Plus when i check the properties of the individual folders in my user folder there are no folders that even come close to containing 250gb.

That is why I think there is a hidden folder or file that contains malware or something.

The WinDirStrit program has been searching the user file only for about an hour how and it is the only folder it is still searching. It has so far only found 1.5 gb so I imagine it is working it's way through some giant malware file now.

109 Gulls in the midwest are a funny sight, but even with Florida being sub-tropical, it's pretty funny to see parrots and parakeets living with the pigeons in Ft. Myers. They were once pets who got away and instead of forming their own colonies, live with other birds.

Yeah, there's at least one of those ring-neckers that keeps shitting on my car.

I first saw a pair of them about 7 years ago, Soona.

They showed up at my backyard feeders.

Had never seen ones like that, so I looked them up online.

Being a softie....I was even worried about how they might survive the cold.

But now....

There are hundreds of them.

They come in and empty my feeders within a few hours....and are driving the other backyard birds away.

But the big hawks must find them tasty....because they swoop in and grab one or two almost every day now.

"Earlier, in response to questions about the Alaska Bear H intrusion, Marine Corps Col. Frank H. Simonds, Jr., deputy chief of staff for NORAD-U.S. Northcom, also defended the Russian bomber intrusion as nonthreatening.

“NORAD does not consider these flights a threat,” Simonds said, noting “Russia and NORAD routinely exercise their capability to operate in the North.”

Simonds identified the Alaska defense zone intruders as Tu-95MS bombers that were met by U.S. F-15s and Canadian CF-18s."

130 Robtr,

Make sure you have hidden files turned off. You can have a huge amount of stuff the computer won't report and not know it. Apps that that rely on calls to Windows would also return false info.

Go to Control Panel, Folder Options, View tab for the place to change it. You'll possibly start seeing a couple of phantom files on your desktop but just ignore them. These are normally hidden files Microsoft stores info in. It's a change that started with Vista that failed to consider just how many people turn off hidden files.

Do you get a lot of e-mail attachments? A lot of the popular e-mail apps default to storing their data as hidden and that can get big fast with lots of attachments.

Just because it looks like a training exercise, doesn't mean it is. So everything needs to be met with a response. Or they are lying.

145 The Hawks Thing and the Carpenter Thing are such different stories as to make any comparison meaningless. The Hawks movie was faced with an insurmountable SFX challenge for the era and had to take a very different approach tot he story that made it a more conventional monster movie. It should be judged on that basis.

Carpenter set out to do the original equipped with both technology and a freedom unavailable to a film maker in the 50s.

Nowadays, there aren't many limitations on what can be done visually. It all comes down to storytelling ability. But it is assumed because someone is adept with the tech they know how to tell a story well. As a result we have some very talented Second Unit Directors given control of the whole production and keeping the Peter Principle alive.

Very well said. Like I stated, I'm ambilivant as to which is better. The original was a 'US vs It', whereas the Carpenter film was full of paranoid persons, which certainly is what the original story "Who Goes There?" was all about.

Another film  and re-make that comes to mind..."Invasion of the Body Snatchers".

Not only is the first version great (and creepy). but I also really liked the re-make, changing it  from small town to S.F.

Both versions work, in my opinion. Although the large city undergoing the transformation is actually far more unsettling to me.

When I grew up there was a local guy called Morgus the Magnificent.  He looked like a mad doctor crossed with a werewolf, and together with his mute assistant, Chopsley, he was a BIG local hit -- there was even a movie made in 1962 featuring him!  He even hosted "Star Trek" reruns on Saturday afternoons for a while.

The actor is still alive, and very now and then a local show will have him on in costume.
