Evening y'all. Um, Friday the 13th is it? Be careful out there, if you believe in superstition. Evidently, a lot of you DO have a fear of Friday the 13th. The official names for fear of Friday the 13th are friggatriskaidekaphobia and paraskevidekatriaphobia according to this article: Friday The 13th: The Superstitions And Skeptics.
An article on the National Geographic website reports that between 17 million and 21 million people in the U.S. suffer from some degree of fear related to the day.
So how many of you morons fear Friday the 13th?
Some interesting Friday the 13th facts:
Fidel Castro was born on Friday, Aug. 13, 1926, in Biran, Cuba.Celebrity twins Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen were born on Friday, June 13, 1986.
Rapper Tupac Shakur died on Friday, Sept. 13, 1996, six days after being shot in Las Vegas.
Daredevil Sam Patch died on Friday, Nov. 13, 1829. Nicknamed "the Yankee Leaper," Patch died after jumping from the top of the falls of the Genesee River in Rochester, N.Y.
Heavy metal music pioneers Black Sabbath released their self-titled debut album on Friday, Feb. 13, 1970.
US vs IRAN
Well, the Iranians have been in the news a lot lately with their threats of shutting down the Strait of Hormuz. It wasn't too long ago that we were engaged in combat against the Iranians. Here's a recap of our previous engagements with the Iranians.

The Iranian frigate IS Sahand (F 74) burns after being attacked by the Joseph Strauss and A-6s. Sahand was hit by three Harpoon missiles, Skipper rocket-propelled bombs, a Walleye laser-guided bomb, and several 1,000-pound bombs. U.S. Navy photo

Bizarre Sex Deaths

I think this list was written before David Carradine's unfortunate foray into deviant sexual behavior in Thailand but here are 5 Most Bizarre Deaths During Sexual Intercourse.
ThereÂ’s something horribly ironic about dying in a funeral hearse. But it happens; just look at the case of Jose Agustino Noha. He worked in a funeral home and romantically had a favourite hearse he used to invite his girlfriend to spend some quality time in with him. After one occasion of doing the dirty the couple fell asleep and never woke up again. TheyÂ’d suffocated in their sleep after leaving the car running and carbon monoxide was leaked from the engine.

Unicorn Poop

Well, I'm still waiting on my damn Skittle Poopin' Unicorn but you can at least Make Your Own Unicorn Poop.
This unicorn poop, in reality, has a funny story. I told my mom that I was making some "Unicorn Sneezes" and she said "when are you going to make your unicorn sh*t?" And then it hit me...Great idea, Mom! It will take a dirty spin and become unicorn poop, instead! She doesn't want the credit for encouraging me, but I still thank her. Haha. BTW: These things are sparkly to the max. Even more-so than ANY art project. I wish that the video would have captured the magic. *cry*The real deal - it's made of sugar cookies, rainbow dragees, rainbow star sprinkles, white sparkle gel, and rainbow disco dust.

Yes, but in Nightmare 3, Freddy was consecrated and laid to rest. I suspect that Nightmare 3 was supposed to be the last Nightmare on Elm Street movie, but because Hollywood sucks, they decided to bring him back. How it happened...I still don't know. The one kid from Nightmare 3 (Kincaid) is dreaming about the junkyard and then he sees Freddy's body spontaneously reassemble. No explanation of how this happened is ever given.
The reassembly scene was okay, but if you want a cooler (if incomplete) body reassembly scene, check out Frank's transformation in the first Hellraiser.

There was a Perry-class frigate that was hit by two Exocets launched by an Iraqi plane back in...1987?
The Perry class also has an aluminum superstructure, was hit in the middle of the night, killed a bunch of sleeping sailors instantly, but the ship was still saved by vigorous and well trained damage control teams. I don't know what happened to the Sheffield, but I think part of it was a lack of energetic seamanship.

That was the USS Stark that was hit in the Persian Gulf back in 1987.
I actually visited the Stark in Cleveland a few years earlier as it was making a public relations tour of the port cities of the Great Lakes.
Some lady who was also touring the Stark asked a deck officer if this was an "exhibition" ship because they had put a plastic hatch on the Mk13 missile launcher so the visiting civvies could see the missile magazine below deck.
He eyed her coldly and said "Ma'am, this is a fully operational warship of the US Navy".

Kratos, my "what were they thinking" means, did they think they could win an armed confrontation with the Brits? At the time, Britain would have been among the 4 or 5 most powerful nations in the world and had a formidable navy.
A lecturer at an in-service academy I attended in '83 put it this way: Which would you most believe, British navy sails to south Atlantic to quell regional conflict with Argentina, or Argentine navy steams up the Thames to shell parliament?

I'm not convinced yet. A 38% increase of pancreatic cancer per 100 grams of processed meat consumed daily ( there are 453.5 g per pound)? I don't like these meta-analyses (which assume the 11 clinical trials are all done in a similar manner), and I'd like a proposed mechanism of tumorgenic action before swearing off all meat consumption.

Sometimes Dan comes out damn. Also navigating around on the page is a little cumbersome. I can't figure out how to hit the return or enter my command. If I try to scroll down with my voice to post that doesn't work. So let's try tab. Note it didn't work. I guess I will have to go to the effort of scrolling down and doing it manually. Life is tough.

Steevy, this was back circa 1985 - 1987. Don't know what the Navy is up to these days.
The Mk 13 magazine could hold Standard SM1 missiles, Harpoons or ASROC, and fire control officer could select what they wanter to launch.
But as an AA weapon it's pretty weak compared to an AEGIS cruiser or an Arleigh Burke class destroyer.
They might still be keeping some of them around for Anti submarine warfare duty, but the Perry's were pretty weak sauce, after all. Not knocking the sailors that served on them, just not much of a warship. A "Zumwalt" creation, I think.

The Argentine thought they probably could win, if they perceived Britain as a dessicated has-been Empire that wouldn't waste its depleting resources securing an island thousands of miles away.
And there is debate that without the professionalism of the British military and their long experience in warfare, the Brits may have been forced to concede the Falklands. Here's one point of view:

It was an Iranian airliner. The US Government paid reparations to as many families as they could without going through the Iranian government.
By their own declaration, we have been "at war" with Iran since 1979.

The official story is that an inexperienced radar operator misread the transponder code and the radar track and thought the jet was in a descent towards the ship, and a jumpy crew launched the missile. IIRC, the Sammy B had just recently hit a mine, so the smallboy crews were a bit...tetchy (BTW, the burning frigate above was a direct result of the Sammy B's mine strike).
Unofficially, the crews are highly trained and there are many layers of command to go through to OK a missile launch, and we have all seen what kind of damage a fully loaded commercial jet can do...

Didn't the CO of theVincennes get cashiered and spend some time in a Federal Penitentiary making small rocks out of big rocks?
I remember seeing a film clip on the Nightly News (back when I watched TV News) of the bridge of the Vincennes right after the shootdown, and they were pretty stoked, until they found out what they had shot down. Or I may have been misremembering that, too.

I love Drifters. It is my very favorite pale ale. Sierra Nevada is a close second, but if the two of them are side by side on the shelf...it's the Drifters every time. They're kind of hard to find around here, the Food Lion in town stopped carrying it so I have to go to the Harris Teeter in Wake Forest. Only reason I'll go in there cause they have the Defenseless Victim Zone sign on the door. Normally I won't do business with a place like that, but for Drifters I'll take off the hardware long enough to go in and come back out.

I expected Boulder to be Boulder. I wasn't quite prepared for all the Polis and Bennet signs out in Louisville back in '10. Louisville is, mostly, for Boulderites who can't quite afford to live there, and don't want to deal with the toilet-hoboes... but still like to be seen as among those who care.
I like the place, and the people in my immediate area aren't so bad, but then I steer clear of the SWPLs.

My dad was a medic in the Air Force. There was a plane wreck, the plane broke up and didn't catch fire, but a lot of guys died in awful ways. He was out wading in jet fuel picking up mostly frozen body parts for hours.
One of the most sobering moments in my life was just a few days before I first went on flying status. The medics took footprints and a lock of my hair to put in the medical records since helmets and boots tend to be relatively intact after the crash, making ID of the body parts easier. Second thoughts? Maybe, but hell, I was only 21 years old and immortal!

It has almost nothing to do with field yells, work songs, and hollers. And blues? Strictly a 20th-century invention (and W.C. Handy said so). Sure enough, black musicians did play an early version of hot ragtime -- the availability of cheap Union Army surplus brass instruments in New Orleans is often given as the genesis -- but as a developed form, you look first to Louis Moreau Gottschalk, then to Gershwin. A New Yorker cartoon once attributed it to Steve Allen. Scott Joplin wrote rags, not jazz.
It's every bit as French Impressionist as it is Black American, and heavily klezmer, too. When it was being denounced as the devil's music, its detractors were just as impressed with its Jewishness as with its blackness. It's a cultural fusion music, and black nationalists have gotten away with way too much credit for it. Also, driven many potential listeners away, for two generations now.
There aren't that many contemporary black Americans who even like it.

Absolutely. That is why I profess the Mossy 500 to be the best possible home defense option for the poor. Cheaper than an Xbox, nearly (but not completely, as humanity continues to defy "nearly") idiot-proof, and simple to run. If you can only have one, that's the way to go. If the OP can afford walkabout options as well, then we can discuss pistols.

MSN's home page has an article on how the the quote on the MLK memorial was screwed up. I was in DC in Nov. and that's not all that is screwed they screwed up. Here's a pic and the article. The statue has MLK scowling down with his arms folded across his chest. The austerity of the lines in his clothes seam more like a Chairman Mao or Stalin type statue and I'm not sure white granite or sandstone is the best material for a statue of a black civil rights leader.
All in all I think the statue falls short as a national monument.

Is this your first pistol? If so, I recommend a .357, federal agency surplus if available, and load that with .38 special. The little bit of extra heft absorbs recoil, and the old joke was if you couldn't hit the guy with six tries, at least you can still throw the gun at him, and don't try that with a Glock. It will shoot .38 just fine, and if you get edgy about it later you can gradually transition to the more powerful round. S&W makes a 7-shooter.
You should have at least 4 inches of barrel. Six is better.
Also, do not mention PITA son-in-law in same thread with gun bleg.

If you're in a life-or-death situation where you're trying to encourage behavior by the sound of a slide, I'd suggest you just shoot. Normal crooks will run like the wind when they see the gun..make sure you win the fight against those who might feel like pushing forward. That whole racking the forearm thing is ridiculous. If you're at the point where you're ready to point a loaded shotgun at someone and then put your finger on the trigger, pull it. If you're willing to point it at someone (rule 2) and then put a finger on the trigger (rule 3), pull. Things have progressed to a point where inaction results in harm to you, or those you love.

I also have to wonder if NASA has a working LENR device of some sort. If it does that could be a real game changer. We would also have to wonder why NASA hasnÂ’t revealed the device to the public or the press. Perhaps theyÂ’re waiting for tests or a patent.
Another possibility is that President Obama is keeping the device under wraps and planning to publicly unveil it during the Presidential campaign this fall. That would certainly get him a few votes. This is highly probably because it would justify his green energy technology agenda which has received a lot of criticism in recent months.Either way it looks like the LENR deniers are going to have to change their tunes and eat their words. It also looks like this revolutionary energy source has high level support in Washington.

I'll chime in with a "no" as well, unless you really have a grudge against yourself. The no-stock shotties are hard to handle and slow to come back on target. I like the Maverick 88 because it's short and therefore quick to point and less likely to get tangled in door frames and such (unlike the Franchi that would probably hit on every door frame I tried to go through). Mossberg (who makes the Maverick) also makes a similar version of their venerable 500, one of the most excellent shotguns on the planet (the Maverick is virtually identical with the exception of the safety placement). Remington and Winchester also make very fine shotguns.

Stevens and Stoeger. Basically the "sub-brands" of Savage and Beretta. A plain-Jane Mossberg 500 with an 18" barrel will do what you want. If I were in your shoes, that's where I'd head. Wally, Academy, and Dick's usually have them on sale a few times a year.

271 Is .38 special sufficient for home defense purposes?
If you also have a switchblade and Charles-Bronson-grade bad-assery, then yes.
Otherwise, a 4 C-cell Maglite, 10 cans of pepper spray, a stun gun with 3 new extra batteries, a wooden bat, a cell phone (fully charged), a large BDU shirt (for the pockets to carry everything), your choice of pants and boots (a cup will help), and earplugs and a 12 guage pump shotgun with a box or two of shells should do it.

Mossberg may make the best shotgun in the world for carrying on your boat (that's not a joke). But unless you have some shotgun experience, you are likely to find them kind of fierce.
One positive of shotgunning is that it's much longer-accepted than combat pistol, and it's easy to find a gun club that puts on weekly trapshoots for fairly cheap practice. In many cities, it's a project to find a pistol range.

For all the concern about overpenetration, I've never once heard of a real world instance of someone getting hit as a result of it.
Posted by: Hollowpoint at January 13, 2012 11:49 PM (X3vSL)
Certainly not with JHP / other bullet configurations used in "Oh Shit!" situations. Overpenetration, except in apartments and townhomes, isn't generally an issue until you start shooting a rifle. Overpenetration is much like overkill (except it exists, unlike "overkill", dead being an absolute) - it's a secondary worry, if you are confronted with a situation wherein you are required to shoot the person in front of you in order to remain living. Find what you can shoot, get good at it, and let it go, hoping you never need it, with occasional practice as you deem necessary.

elizabethe, you mean the nitrites? I have always been skeptical of those. They would seem to be excellent pro-oxidants. Didn't think it would be all that healthy to be eating them. But they came with teh baconz, so what's a moron to do? Glad to know there's nitrite-free bacon now.
Posted by: chemjeff at January 13, 2012 10:36 PM (7FadD)
Nitrates were one of the earliest canned meat preservatives. It was in Spam for years. My father used to travel to the nearest Army Depot to buy food for six (1970's) and always bought at least one GI can of "processed meat" (GI Spam). It was an olive drab can about 4"x4" by about a foot long.
Right on the label it said it contained nitrates. So did almost every other type of canned meat (I was into chemistry at that age so I remember it well).
The government has been trying for decades to ban it but they haven't been able to do it because they haven't been able to prove it as a health risk.
Our family ate a ton of nitrite preserved meat over the years and we should all be dead by now. One year (I think when he was in Korea) my father had a Christmas "turkey" made out of sculpted GI spam.
If you look at the latest "scientific claims", eating nitrate processed foods raises your likelihood of contracting pancreatic cancer by about 0.4%. And that's after decades of scientific studies aimed at trying to get it banned.
Eat your bacon -- you're more likely to die by getting run over by a milk truck.

Gotcha there, but if they're also armed and ready, why announce anything? Once you reach a point where you're willing to aim a gun at someone and place your finger on the trigger, the next step is inevitable, because your life is (or should be) in danger. 95% of the time, a warning might work, when the neighbors' stupid kids steal shit to buy drugs or something, but 5% of the time (completely made up stats for illustration), you've given a warning to someone intent on killing you. Fair fights are a bad idea.

If a shotgun, should it be one of those with no stock, just a pistol grip?
I see 2 problems with a pistol grip:
1. Essentially no ability to fire slugs, or any ammo with lots of recoil. A wooden stock is an advantage here.
2. The lack of a stock gives the DA an advantage. A wooden stock is an advantage here too.

Negative, no, no, no. .45LC is useful, but only in its defense loadings, which most people won't purchase and shoot. .410, even in the premium offerings available today, does not offer the penetration necessary to stop a fight. The Judge is a solution in search of a problem. It's certainly fun, and makes a great snake gun, but there are so many better personal defense options out there that it shouldn't even be considered.

- .410 is a lousy self defense round. .45LC is quite good, but a .410 through a pistol I wouldn't trust for anything other than snakes and vermin.
All very true. .410 in a short pistol would be pretty terrific in discouraging an attempted carjacking, though, and that's precisely what the Judge was designed for. Besides actual Judges carrying them in the courtroom, that is.

... and, once again, PEPPER spray or MACE.
Re-read the "Marines May Face Prosecution" thread.
Who is ready to deal with someone in the dark, extremely likely to be, but not quite yet, a threat, by using a firearm? It could be #1 of 3 intruders, intent on murder, theft and arson ...or the butt-hole neighbor kid, looking to score your barbecue to swap for weed ... or it could be your drunk, unemployed, idiot brother-in-law ...
OTOH, emptying a can of pepper spray, in any situation ... not much hesitation ... and a lesson well deserved.

One more idea on home defense: possibly the best of both worlds is the Taurus Judge revolver. It carries 5 rounds, and will fire either .45 caliber bullets or .410 gauge shotgun shells. You can even combine the two (as in alternating bullet and shotgun shell) in the same load.
It is an extremely effective weapon, and especially helpful in close quarters.
CDNNinvestments.com has them for $399
Posted by: Wodeshed at January 14, 2012 12:00 AM (SgLsM)
It's so popular that major ammo manufacturers have developed .410 ammo specifically for "The Judge". Ball, buck and ball and 000 buckshot rounds. I was just able to skim the American Rifleman article about it in the barber shop, but major ammunition manufacturers are devoting production just for that pistol.I saw several of them at some gun shows and wasn't much impressed by them, but they apparently have a significant following. I wish a buddy of mine would buy one so I could try it out on the range.

I believe it, especially if he was a classical player, most are arrogant pricks. I don't hold the guitar "classical style" either, although it is actually easier to play some stuff holding it the right way. On the other hand, when I sit with an electric guitar I do hold it classical style on the left leg because thats about where it is when standing with a strap. The smaller body just sits different there compared to a classical guitar.

Honestly, I think a handgun is what I'd steer you towards for home defense anyway. They just seem less unwieldy at a time when you really want to be quick. Of course, you don't have to be quite as accurate with a shotgun. But I have trouble visualizing myself quickly grabbing a shotgun for some reason, not least because I can't really imagine where I'd keep it handy. Under the bed seems to slow, beside the bed seems like an accident waiting to happen for this clutz.
But I'm going to explore all the options as soon as I get over my vertigo issues.

OK, so here's the dealio -- 80's is pretty vintage, and it's possible that it has a flawed MIDI implementation. Yamaha DX7's, for instance, always transmit out on MIDI channel 1, for instance (IIRC). In addition, such ancient beasts often have problems playing more than one sound at a time (e.g. from the keys and from the wire).
However, the real question is what the capabilities are for the OTHER synth. If it's relatively modern -- and, especially, if it's designed to be run off of sequencers -- it may well be able to voice 16 different sounds off of 16 MIDI channels and still be played in a 17th voice from the keys.
So, what's the other board?

We have to go out and go through my late MIL's things this weekend; Thor's brother has informed him that there are several things his son wants. Some of those things Thor also wants.
Am I wrong in thinking Thor should have priority? (These are things of sentimental value, not monetary value... a Nativity set that dates back to Thor's childhood, etc) He's willing to compromise to a certain extent; we'r enot going to be asses about it. And my feeling is that it'll all go back to the nephew eventually anyway.
I just want to know if my natural bias is getting in the way.

remember the time before the wars. The masters know it, and why
they don't just do away with me I don't understand. Maybe they
think one old man telling tales isn't a threat.
You see,
before the wars we had no masters. Almost everyone lived in houses like the masters do now, not in
barracks like this.
What started the wars? Hell if I
know. They started out somewhere far away. Some God
forsaken hellhole of a country that doesn't exist anymore. They
went on for many years, and some people even thought that we were winning. That is, until our old leaders started sounding retreat
after every victory.
The wars raged on. Countries
died in a day, and still the killing went on. We thought we
were safe, until the hungry people came up from the south.
That's when the masters intervened. They said they would help
us to take back our beloved land.
They lied.

perpetuating the myth that a shotgun blast will yield a two foot spread at ten feet.
All I mean is, I saw someone get accidentally shot with a shotgun from 6 feet, although I admittedly don't know what gauge it was, and my very vivid memory of that leads me to believe that a shotgun blast would successfully stop an intruder, at least long enough to get another shot off.
Still and all, I'd rather have a larger caliber handgun, provided I can handle the weight, etc.

And he sounds like a loser. Unless you have an illness or injury that prevents you from living on your own, you don't live at home with your parents when you're 32. Alex, he kind of is a loser in many ways, but he's a very nice young man overall. I just can't fathom not wanting to get out on your own. I borrowed 20 dollars off my parents one time and that was it. They did pay my first month's car insurance, and my college tuition for the first two years.
I'd have died of shame to be beholden/dependent to anyone at his age. It's a very different world now.
Point is, at close range one needs to aim the same way they would with a rifle.

Just the aging process after maturity (think drugs and organ replacements thanks to stem-cells).
I got to thinking about this based on some discussions here and elsewhere about the effects of women delaying children into their late thirties or forties. It struck me that any sort of drastic increase in longevity would likely lead to an increased infantilization of young adults. What happens when society is telling women to waiting until her 50s or 60 at the earliest to settle down, but her biological clock is telling her to find a partner before she's 30? What does she do when the men her age are still living at home and playing video games? What happens to marriage when "til death do you part" means 100-120 years of being with the same person?

I'm going through that with granny's wedding ring. My mom had to fight my 2 aunts to get it when her mother died, even though my grandmother said on numerous occasions in front of the family she gets it, and then mom left it to me when she died this past summer. My mother wasn't even cold and the speculation about that fucking ring started. The wife could wear it, it was mostly for her from my mom, but it has to stay with me and get passed on in the family. Well of course the same 2 aunts are starting their shit again

Well one of the problems that needs to be overcome is that once women get over a certain age childbearing becomes riskier in terms of the fetus developing various genetic abnormalities like down's syndrome and the like. Science alone isn't going to be able to solve that, I think and natural selection takes a long ass time.
The way you describe it I can't help but think the human life cycle would be similar to a hobbit's. Shit! We're all gonna shrink and get hairy feet!

Hence my frequent references to punching people in the throat. I stick by my violence hypothesis.
I had an idea for a sci-fi story set in a world where this all got turned up to 11 thanks to life extensions. The growth rate plummeted as a whole generation of women were told that they could delay, and then discovered too late that they were past their fertile years. A lot of them can't handle it, and maternity wards become armed camps after a wave of baby-snatching occurs.
Once things settle down, society becomes more matriarchal, as women forgo the search for a mate and simply form extended families to support children. Most men end up on the outside, as women are all attracted to the top few men to father their children. This does not go well.

Yep. And I am totally on board with your violence!
I think that you really can love someone for that long.
And that doesn't even matter, really; your marriage vows say as long as you both shall live, not love. (I am not opposed to divorce for the right reasons, by any means, just that people seem to think love will always be shiny and new and it won't, though I absolutely believe it could last 100 years or more!)
The wife could wear it, it was mostly for her from my mom, but it has to stay with me and get passed on in the family. Well of course the same 2 aunts are starting their shit again
When David's aunts were all out for the funeral, same exact thing happened. Over fucking dishes. They all had fought over the dishes when their mom died, and damned if it didn't start in immediately again.

I am on a one-man crusade to try to do something about teh narrative about women's age cuz I think it is just BS.
A nice garden is a beautiful thing in the spring, summer, fall, and winter. The colors and textures change, and gardens in fall and winter become beautiful in new and different ways. So do women. In my opinion, people who don't see that suffer from one of the saddest forms of blindness that can happen to anyone.

Posted by: Robert at January 14, 2012 03:41 AM (F79HU)The thing that's amusing about Rush is that -- in comparison with bands like Montrose (Ronnie Montrose on lead guitar and.......who, exactly, else?) or Steve Miller (Steve Miller on lead guitar and........who, exactly, else?) or Robin Trower (Robin Trower on lead guitar and.......who, exactly, else?) -- you have Neil Peart on drums (drum God, level X); Geddy Lee on bass (bass God, level X); and Alex Lifeson (guitar demigod, level VIII). The weakest member of the band is in the position that normally carries the band along, and is nonetheless better than 95% of the other guitarists out there.

Any other band, it'd have his name on it and he'd be in first place. Alex is a seriously great guitar player. It's just that he's in a 3-piece band with one of the best drummers and one of the best bassists out there.
But the flip side is, imagine how he'd feel if he were playing with another group. Any other drummer and bassist would be slumming it.

All y'all do. It's a total Dude thing.
Posted by: Tammy al' Thor at January 14, 2012 04:09 AM (SsG4J)
Oh I've known (at least on the INTARWEBZ) many people not fond of Rush in the slightest. One dude, at least. Although he was gay. And he had a thing for me. That doesn't really have to do with anything, though.
*Cough*
Where was I? Right...usually it seems to have to do with Geddy Lee's voice. And certainly, his voice is an acquired taste. For years, when I was a kid, I thought he was a she and got him confused with that chick from Heart.
Posted by: Robert at January 14, 2012 12:13 AM (F79HU)
Yea, that was my cousin Brett. Only man I've ever known who didn't quiver at the mere mention of Rush, although to his credit, Thor is not a huge major drooling fan.
With me, I think it gets back to the synthesized thing.

Rush isn't something that you'll be whistling afterwards. It's complicated, polyrhythmic, and densely-layered. And perhaps these are largely "guy things".
You start talking about "lack of talent", though, and things could get ugly fast.

Oh no, no...read what I wrote. Undeniable talent. I do not dispute that. At all.
It's like Hendrix. I don't really like his music, but the mofo could play.
Ditto John Coltrane and all those other bizarre, non-melodic musicians all y'all delightfully testosterone laden creatures seem to love so much.
I myself am complicated, polyrhythmic, and densely-layered, damn it, why do you complain about it in women so much?

Noted once gain Amazon is gouging the MP3s. MP3 album cost $18.06 to download. But the actual double CD is only $16.14. There is no excuse for this none. I am scared to do LEDs here for normal lighting because we get too much lightning. One good zap will eat up some expense bulbs.

Bullshit DC Judge upholds ATF gun reporting requirements
U.S. District Judge Rosemary M. Collyer said the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives properly limited its requirement to purchasers of two or more semi-automatic rifles greater than .22 caliber within five days in the states of California, Arizona, New Mexico or Texas.
She is a former counsel for the NRLB and was appointed by George W. Bush. She further says:
"Congress has effected a delicate balance between ATF's regulation of firearms and the right to privacy held by lawful firearms owners," Collyer wrote. The ATF's reporting requirement "did not disturb that balance."
This is absolute bullshit. Too bad gun owners drew an anti-gun liberal scrunt for a judge. This is not congressional regulation you idiot. This is Holder and company inventing regulation using a damn crime they performed as a damn excuse.
This is unconstitutional on another score, it is limited to a few States making it void under the equal protection clause.

Yet another call for Kagan to recuse herself
An internal memorandum from the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) reveals that Justice Elena Kagan “substantially participated” in a health care case in San Francisco in which the Justice Department argued over the effect of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). This raises grave new doubts about the appropriateness of Kagan’s participation as a justice in the Obamacare lawsuit scheduled to be heard by the Supreme Court in March.
Get over it. She is not going to recuse herself, just not going to happen. This is the most lawless administration in US History and that includes Supreme Court nominees.

In order to meet CAFE standards car makers have been making their products increasingly streamlined. It seems like a good idea. When I was a kid I thought a lot of car and (especially) truck designs were stupid because they were seriously un-aerodynamic.
But with the good comes the bad. Now it only takes a bit of freezing rain and your car doors get frozen shut. Its happened to the last three vehicles we've owned. And not only did the doors freeze shut on my old Lumina -- the windshield wipers were tucked under the rear of the hood where they would become entombed in ice.
A couple of bottles of 91% alcohol are on today's shopping list. One is going straight into a spray bottle set to spray a stream.
I'm also gonna silicone the hell out of the rubber seals on the vehicle doors, but that only helps for a week or two.
