The Walter Mitty Life of Joe Biden

He likes to play fantasy football:

During a campaign stop in Athens, Ohio, on Saturday September 8, Vice President Joe Biden said the last time he was in the town, playing against the Ohio University football team on October 19, 1963, he almost got arrested for walking into a girls' dormitory.
In his September 8 speech, Biden, to set up a story about how he was almost arrested on Ohio University's campus in 1963, said he came to Ohio University then because "my football team, the University of Delaware, came to avenge a loss" from 1961.
"I came ... I was a football player ... I came here in 1963 ... and we beat you Bobcats, 29-12," Biden said.

But you'll be shocked, SHOCKED to learn that it wasn't true:

It's a good story. It's just not true. at all.

Shawn at Free Republic discovered that Joe Biden did not play football at the University of Delaware in 1961, 1962, 1963, or 1964, according to past yearbooks.

The 1984 University of Delaware yearbook included an interview with Joe Biden. It's Biden first ever interview were he talks about his "triple major" ... and playing "intramural football" (flag football). There is no mention about him playing college football.(Links in the original.)

The EU to Ban High-End Video Cards?

Well that actually does sound like the EU I know.

"An update to an energy law, which will apply in the European Union, has the power to limit sale of discrete components deemed 'energy inefficient.' GPU maker AMD is worried this will affect future technology as it becomes available, as well as some current offerings. From TFA: 'According to data NordicHardware has seen from a high level employee at AMD, current graphics cards are unable to meet with these requirements. This includes "GPUs like Cape Verde and Tahiti", that is used in the HD 7700 and HD 7900 series, and can't meet with the new guidelines, the same goes for the older "Caicos" that is used in the HD 6500/6600 and HD 7500/7600 series. Also "Oland" is mentioned, which is a future performance circuit from AMD, that according to rumors will be used in the future HD 8800 series. What worries AMD the most is how this will affect future graphics cards since the changes in Lot 3 will go into effect soon. The changes will of course affect Nvidia as much as it will AMD.' Is this the beginning of the end for high-end GPU sales in the EU?"

Of course the components aren't really 'inefficient' - you are getting a lot more speed and performance in return for a higher power draw.  Designers have been making this tradeoff since forever. But the EU bureaucrats' will to control knows no bounds.

Oh Goody: US Census To Start Asking About Sexual Orientation

The U.S. Census Bureau announced Friday that it is seeking advice on how to address lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender populations in implementing the once-a-decade census.

The census, which has never counted LGBT people directly, has indirectly referenced gay people through its count of same-sex married couples and "unmarried partner" households in the past.

Well this is going to be a lot of fun come 2020.

Need a Unique Costume This Year?

Well I'm guessing you'll be the only person in the tri-state area coming as a sexy rabbi.

Note beard, mustache, sexiness and hat not included.

68 Okay... What is this? A shadowy website with a blurred document claiming to be an October Surprise that will lead to a Reagan-like landslide???

My guess is it's crap, some sort of viral marketing campaign, possibly for the upcoming movie showing how Jugears killed Bin Laden. No doubt they have ripped off the screenplay from Commando with Will Smith cast as Obama. He ends up killing Bin Laden with a Rambo-sized knife while delivering the line, "Stick around." Best part is at the end when he's carrying two injured Seals on his back while also firing a machine gun at the encroaching guards and yelling to his support team, "Get to da choppa!"

Michelle Malkin the hardest working journalist in the cashmere. Just the facts ma'am. 5. Ace always insightful and the comic relief keeps things in perspective. 299 New Nevada poll just came out. It has Obama over Romney by 3%. Romney is crushing Obama amongst independents 63% to 34%. Romney leads men by 4% but is loosing women by 52% to 42% The most interesting thing is that Obama is barely leading Latinos: 52% to 44%. The problem is that the Dems have increased their registration lead by 250% since the June primary (from under 40K to 90K... including back to levels in Clark County, where 70% of voters live). The partisan split was 40/31/27 R/D/I. If the registration was what it was earlier this year, then Romney would be ahead. Obama getting Nevada is entirely due to the Ron Paul cultists taking over the Clark County and state GOP central committees... who were more busy ranting about UN plots to take over their refrigerators... http://tinyurl.com/dyjt8ye

301 in all fairness to the eu's LANGUAGE, high-end GPU's *are* inefficient. i don't know anything about computers, but i remember the guy in my office who plays d&d and wow complaining about how much more heat output it takes to get that next marginal gigabyte of processing power, and how he was going to have to run water pipes through his computer or something o.O when he upgraded the video card. since efficiency is defined in unit output per unit input, it's pretty clear that if higher-end GPUs produce more waste heat to get the highest marginal output, then they are exactly, *definitively* "inefficient" -- no matter how long "manufacturers have been making that trade-off". of course, it's absurd for the eu to be banning high-end GPU's because of inefficiency, when there is clearly a market of supergeeks who is willing to pay the extra energy costs...and even run water pipes or whatever through their computers o.O so the elven warlock chick's breasteses polygon count can be pushed to the limit! also, why, exactly, is it going to be "fun" that sexual orientation is on the census? how is that something that offends you? if anything, you ought to be happy about it, because it ought to expose the serious over-estimate of the gay population by liberals following kinsey as a total fraud...

I can't decide what I think about it, some days I think why not - not my job to 'protect' people from themselves.  The state needs the money etc.  May as well pass it.

Other days I think there will still be a black market for it.  If someone can make a buck and cut the state out of the taxes - they will.  And maybe it being illegal does keep some kids from experimenting (it did me) - maybe that's worth something.  So I still haven't decided how I'm voting on that one.   I'm open to being persuaded one way or the other.

There's a joke schtick that goes, "hey, I was born at night.....but not LAST night." Problem is, with all their "Year Zero" BS, most libs behave like they were born last night.

The whole healthcare thing is a shining example. Up until the late 1920s or so, there was no health insurance to speak of in the US. People would regularly go to the local doctor's office and barter off some chickens for some care. Doctors would make house calls. While there were occasional patent-medicine scandals, American healthcare was solid First World quality.

As part of FDR's New Deal, there were wage controls that completely bollixed up hiring -- so health insurance was thrown in as a sweetener to avoid strict compliance with the wage standards. Almost overnight, most workers had some sort of health insurance through their jobs.....but most medical care was still done privately.

As late as 1963, it cost only $120.55 -- or, adjusted for inflation, under a grand -- to give birth in a hospital with a four day stay ( http://market-ticker.org/akcs-www?singlepost=3012292 ). That's because health insurance was like car insurance or fire insurance -- it covered things that could not be reasonably foreseen that were catastrophic -- that is to say, low-probability, high-cost issues. Health care, on the other hand, is all the stuff that could reasonably be expected.....so you budgeted for it, negotiated fair value, found alternatives -- all that "free market" stuff.

Increasingly since then, healthcare has been increasingly the province of institutions -- and the name of the game is "collect a pittance all the time, promise the moon and the stars and the sky above, and don't pay anything you don't have to." The public has taken to all these promises by saying, "I don't care what it costs, you must provide it to me" and ceasing to have any interest in what the cost/benefit tradeoffs are for anything medical. This has lead to all sorts of horror stories and wild cost overruns and budget busting and noise about the way to go forward.

The way to go is not forward, it's back.

Start with the basics -- health insurance isn't healthcare. Access isn't payment (sorry, Sandra Fluke). Regulation isn't coercion (goodbye, "Liverpool Path"; hello, "medical marijuana"). We've got a couple of examples out there -- LASIK and veterinary medicine -- that have seen advances leaps-and-bounds beyond what everyone else gets.......BECAUSE THEY'RE OUTSIDE THE SYSTEM. The healthcare system is broken, wedged into a hapless wreck by the insertion of government. Wiggling the government part around won't fix it. Driving it further in will only make things worse.

The FDA is behaving to medicine like the EPA is behaving to coal. Obamacare, like Cap-and-Trade, is a job-killing monster. Medicare, itself, is a government-sanctioned Ponzi scheme. We need something based on "getting your money's worth" -- a free market solution.

I'd call it a "crystallizing moment".  I went to a movie at some theater in Norwalk and some bangers torched my motorcycle during the show.  I didn't know them, they didn't know me, completely random.

I got a lot of time to think that night as I dragged that burned bike home that night.  The front wheel still turned, but the rear was seized.  You know know hard hard it is to drag a bike weighing hundreds of pounds with a seized wheel?  There was a streak of burned rubber 2+ miles long on the road before I got back to the apartment.

Then of course someone stole the wheels off the VW beetle that replaced the cycle...

501 @498 i always struggle with those questions too...but ion't have to vote on them, so it's just ideological for me. i consider myself pretty freedom-minded...like a libertarian, but less douchey. but i saw what marijuana did to my foster brother...totally robbed him of all his motivation and i believe ended up sending him to prison on drug charges with stronger drugs. even if making it legal ceases to make it a gateway drug for many people, i just don't know if it's a good idea to give the current young generation, which already has problems with amotivation and effective nihilism, free access to a drug that will only exacerbate those problems...and maybe even contribute to the development of the sort of transgressive identity that CAN lead to other things. but then again, it's not as *dangerous* as alcohol in terms of violence and driving and death and stuff...and it's really not part of my political philosophy to want the government to make decisions protecting citizens from their own poor decisions...the nanny-state approach is a SERIOUSLY slippery slope. you may think i'm crazy or something, but just you wait...pretty soon we'll be outlawing sugary drinks of a certain size... ~.~ such a tough one to think through. glad i don't have to vote on it and neither my fiancé nor i have anything to do with the stuff.

I like Vegas and don't hate the city or the denizens.  My nephew lives there and loves it.  It just seems that the ordinary, everyday people who are there vote the way their bosses (yea, probably union bosses) say they should.  It's still a pretty corrupt city and the average person just wants to keep their job.  Why do you think Harry Reed keeps getting elected??  He's a loathsome human being and even the low info people has to know that.

And your comments about Taft are breaking my heart. I used to love the small towns up through the valley (and over on the other side the Sierras as well. Ever heard of Bishop?) Back then it was paradise. No idea what it is like now. Hell, even Fresno used to be a fun and safe town.

And ps, my Dad was born in Taft.

556 There are some towns in northern Nevada that are straight out of the old west. I went into one small town bar at 10am, the place was packed and everyone in there was strapped including the women. I waited for the bathroom and the guy who came out had an m4 on his back. Crazy place. Posted by: Dick Hertz at October 18, 2012 01:07 AM (gkfSV) Crazy? 557 Again not to harsh on NV. But most of the dudes I met there gave me the impression they had, at some point, seriously considered trying to become a UFC fighter but didn't want to give up their weed habit, video games, and sitting on the couch all day lifestyles. But they were really down with the tattoos and bloodshed it offered. They just wanted to do that but without the whole running and training aspect. I was there less than a week, so I shouldn't generalize too much. My buddy had been there less than six months and he and his girlfriend had already been robbed twice.

562 Cities have become nothing but centralized re-education centers and minority plantations. My parents realized this very early, in the sixties. They punched out to the burbs. Stanley Kurtz has written about this recently. The Left sees the cities as their ranches to raise little Leftist clients. It's easy to control people in confined spaces who don't control their own food supply. And I'm not some prepper with 5,000 pounds of dried rice in a bunker or anything. But I can see what they're trying to do.

565 I'm OK with legalizing all drugs, smack, meth, etc.

Only one condition -- you'll be provide NO medical treatment for any problems/injuries caused by those drugs unless you pay for it out of pocket.  Insurance companies would be allowed to deny treatment payments for drug use.

If you can't afford treatment, then you die in the street, or maybe some private charity will pick you up if you're lucky.  If not, you die in the street.

Drug users would be prohibited from collecting ANY sort of public assistance.  The taxpayers have no obligation to support the stoner lifestyle.  If that's what you want, find a way to support it yourself.

Drug users who commit violent burglary/robbery to support their lifestyle get automatic death sentences.  Find another way to make money like counterfeiting, mail fraud, ponzi schemes, etc...or *gasp* a real job or legit business.  There's plenty of smack and coke freaks who save it for the weekend and perform just fine in a business setting during the week.  Emulate them.

The only public service I'm willing to provide is free cremation of your remains when your dead body is scooped up off the street.

If you're driving a car high, get into a fight while high, and injure/kill someone, you go to prison for life.

Basically, get as high as you want, as long as its not an impact on me or society.

573 @575 it's not really fair to say city folks are liberal. i'd say that the MAIN reason that cities are a lot more "liberal" than rural counties in general is because most of america's minorities and entitlement classes are in the cities...and of course, we know where those votes are going Till The End Of Time. it's true that liberal folks like to live in cities because it makes them feel more sophisticated, and of course a lot of universities are in cities, but at the same time, there are MANY folks in cities who are very conservative -- folks who would never consider living in rural counties, but would never consider voting D, either. i know a guy like that >.>

596 @583 i'm not talking about anyone in particular here. i'm talking about the general idea that, say, gay marriage is a more important fight than ending abortion. i know most people here are just having poor-taste fun with the outrageous gay-baiting. still, there are a lot of hardcore socons who would couch their reflexive dislike of gays in the go-to rationale of their "self-destructive lust-based lifestyles". you know well enough it would be ridiculous to say that "nobody" holds to the false claim that basically all gays are all about sex all the time. ~.~ i'll be the first to admit that many gays -- especially the most visible ones -- really ARE like that. but those gays are also so nasty that they would call gays like me and my fiancé "house n!@#$% gays" for having the audacity to vote republican. it's important for socons to keep in mind that there are LOT of gays like gabe malor who posts at this very site whose friendship and alliance conservatives should WELCOME and not reject. not everyone is down with the purposefully xgressive thing. not all guys who like guys want to make straights feel uncomfortable. as homosexuality becomes more prevalent and open across all social sectors, it's going to become increasingly important for republicans to keep in mind that they have allies, or at least potential allies, that should be welcomed...and maybe it's time to start retiring the playground taunts, kind of like was done with race so many years ago (NOT that i am comparing the struggles!!!!).

I don't doubt that for a second ( I did say that LV is a corrupt city).  Vegas was born corrupt and like it or not, it will always be so.  I do remember hearing about 'voting irregularities' during the last election cycle.  I also knew it wouldn't go anywhere..wouldn't even be investigated.  Until the actual citizens say 'enough' nothing will change there.  Not gonna happen with their jobs in the balance.  SEIU is strong there.

Obama's gonna win NV this year.  For the same reason.  Am I happy about that??  Hell no.  But life goes on.  I try to change the things I can..........and try not to let the things I can't change ruin my day.  Life's too short, especially at my point in life.

606 @578 dang...things like meth and especially smack i think will inevitably impact society. opioids are strongly physically addicting, and there is the characteristic "dope sickness" that lasts for like a week after coming down off of them...apparently it is impossible to sleep, to stay fecally continent, and to feel even remotely ok. when someone is going through a withdrawal like that, they will do anything just to get a little relief...and that usually means, for the type of people that go for needles, breaking into homes and ripping something off to get a quick score. otherwise, they end up in the emergency room begging the doctors for the new buprenorphine drug that staves off withdrawal for a few days...but who is paying those reimbursements and subsidies? junkies sure aren't paying for their medical care!

613 it's not really fair to say city folks are liberal. Well, I didn't really say that. I said cities are target-rich environments for creating helpless dependency. Of course there are still conservatives and libertarians, but their influence is limited compared to the dependents, whose very lives depend on government. Those people would literally starve to death without government, and their support is ironclad.

Posted by: rfichoke at October 17, 2012 09:38 PM (SPxVS)

614 Jimi Ray, I doubt that anyone here actually hates gays. I for one think gays  should be free to live their lives as they please, but others shouldn't be forced to celebrate their life choices. And I think gay marriage is intended to force people to do just that.

Implement doper colonies.  You can do all the drugs you want, and they'll even be provided for free.

The only condition is there's only two ways to leave once you're in.  Feet first, or CLEAN.

We got a lot of mothballed military bases that could be turned into these sort of colonies.  Completely safe risk free environment, food/shelter provided, get as high as you want.  Free medical care from the stoner doctors/nurses.

It would be cheaper socially to pay all their expenses and provide free dope than to have them out on the street doing crimes and fucking up other people.

I'm flexible.  Whatever will work.  They could have local industry within the colony if they wanted to generate income to buy outside stuff.

I'm not really hard set on anything, just tossing ideas around.

633 @629 lol, that's totally fair and i 100% agree with your statement that no-one should be forced to celebrate others' life choices. see what i said in 640 about the marriage issue! if the statement didn't characterise your views, then it wasn't meant to offend you. i have seen, over the past 4 years or so, conservatives come a LONG way in opening the tent...i think the trouncing in 2008 did a lot to help that...and especially at this site, i think gabe has done a lot to show the perhaps otherwise sceptical that gays can certainly be bona fide conservatives who are not looking to throw their lifestyles in anyone's faces. i think it's had a great result, and as i've said before, i've had no problem with the *vast majority* of the folks here. then again, we tend to be a lot more knowledgeable, wittier, and just downright smarter xP than the typical conservative communities... that being said, there are certainly several posters here so seem to irrationally dislike gays, and there are posters who have been extremely abusive toward me -- not that i've ever responded, lol -- upon finding out that i'm not a girl. nobody in mind is present at the time, but not everyone here at the hq has come as far as they probably could...and the idea that i HAVE seen here (but more among less-educated conservative communities) that gays are a sort of one-track, sex-obsessed mob-mind is the only thing i was speaking out against @.@ anyway i would really like to move on from this subject :p i'm sorry if i ruffled any feathers; i was just trying to point out that with the right upbringing and manners, EVEN GAYS can be super mega gentlemen! ♥

634 Your doper colony proposals are fine, as long as they no be making babies. Sterilize them. I think that's still too complicated. Here's my rules: put whatever you want into your body. If you kill anybody or rape anybody, you get two in the back of the head after a single appeal. If you steal anything, you pay it back four-fold. Commit mayhem: eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth. Anything else: private citizens take care of it themselves. You'll see drug use go down dramatically. We have too many damn laws and too many damn law enforcers. Laws aren't tools to reshape society. Laws are the application of force and should be strictly limited.

Posted by: buzzion at October 18, 2012 01:40 AM (GULKT)

A many years ago,
When I was young and charming,
As some of you may know,
I practised baby-farming -- I was "Junior Math Champ" at my Elementary school!

.....and the big innovation that allowed me to dominate this competition was that I'd repeat the question while thinking of an "anchor", then derive the answer. One of my "anchors" was "6 x 7 is 42". So if the question was, "what is 7 times 7", I'd say "seven times seven....." while thinking "six times seven is forty-two plus seven is...." and say "forty-nine."

Similarly, if asked, "what is six times nine", I'd say "six times nine is....." while thinking "six times seven is forty-two, plus six is forty-eight, plus six is....." and say "fifty-four."

So it was pretty funny (for me) when the answer to the great question of life, the universe, and everything........was 42. I could have told them that.

Posted by: jimi ray at October 17, 2012 09:56 PM (79EF9)

638 Jimi Ray, I see several problems with gay marriage. I'll just focus on one for the moment, the conjunction of gay marriage with anti-discrimination and hate crime laws.

What do you think the odds are of a gay couple wanting to have a big, fancy church wedding? I'd say the odds are pretty high. The marryin' types like those big, fancy church weddings, right?

So, what happens when your local Catholic basilica is approached by a gay couple who wants to get married there? In a state with strict anti-discrimination laws where sexual orientation is concerned? Must the church put aside its objections to homosexuality to avoid civil penalties?

I drink and smoke, and don't wear underwear; I don't expect the Mormon church to accept me. I love bacon and lobster; I don't expect Jews to accept me in their synagogues.

Posted by: Prothonotary Warbler at October 17, 2012 09:56 PM (RLZvP)

639 648 not that this is the sole cause but part of the problem is prominent people like Dan Savage arguing that monogamy doesn't apply/is not feasible for homosexual men, and people treating this as an acceptable opinion.

Posted by: JParker at October 17, 2012 09:57 PM (8HhF2)

640 . Laws are the application of force and should be strictly limited.

THIS is a very important point.  People who want new law for whatever don't realize that force is how government's implement law.  At gunpoint, asset seizure, prison, whatever...it all comes down to brutal raw force.

That kind of power isn't something you want to be handing out like crackerjack prizes.

657 @653 well, i personally think "hate crime" laws are a totally misguided punishment of one's thoughts that should never have been considered even remotely constitutional in the first place. that a man should be punished more for killing another man because of how he felt about that other man's race makes no sense to me, but the left is often trying to force changes in behaviour or thought processes through the law, often to the precise OPPOSITE effect! i am sensitive, like i said, to the resistance to having things forced in one's face. that's not my style, and i realise how utterly counterproductive it is for the acceptance of gay marriage at large for certain sectors of the gay population to want to legislate or sue gay marriage into national acceptance. so i would say that the problem doesn't lie with gay marriage, but with hate crime laws in the first place. i think any religious institution should be protected from having to implement any unions that are against its theology, and i would have thought in an earlier america that they would be safe, but with the contraception thing this year, it's clear i had been overly optimistic. still, i really don't think gays should be prevented from marrying because of the unfortunate possibility that some militantly activist gays will try to bring their ceremony to a cathlolic church whose institutions and statutes they DON'T EVEN RESPECT. i don't know what the answer is, but again, the problem lies more with hate crime laws and sue-happy activists who want to force their lifestyle on everyone who rejects it. there is a clear psychological pathology associated with that sort of behaviour, and i really don't know what to do about it, but i just have trouble seeing why i can't marry the only person who ever showed any interest in me -- a guy who almost lost his life in iraq on the front lines AT HIS OWN REQUEST -- because there are some terrible people who want to abuse a bad system. :/

Posted by: cthulhu at October 17, 2012 10:09 PM (kaalw)

660 @671 no doubt about that. i tried to make that clear in my 672 with reference to the types who like to force their lifestyles in folks' faces and inexplicably seek "approval" or "acceptance" from institutions and communities for which they have absolutely no respect whatsoever. but there are no dan savages here to tell...and unlike the folks here, they aren't reasonable or intelligent enough to understand WHY, anyway.

Posted by: jimi ray at October 17, 2012 10:10 PM (79EF9)

661 unfortunate possibility that some militantly activist gays will try to bring their ceremony to a cathlolic church whose institutions and statutes they DON'T EVEN RESPECT

Its unrealistic to walk into McDonald's and demand a Whopper, or walk into a mosque and expect the imam to do baptisms.

Posted by: @PurpAv at October 17, 2012 10:12 PM (5tKuy)

662 @542 No, they won't pull the same thing in Ohio on Nov 6, because this morning's court order means they will be doing it on Nov 3,4, and 5 instead. I trained last week to be a poll worker -- unexplainably huge class, according to those who'd done it before, and we put it down to expectations of v.large turnout. Now the point is "mute." The fix is in.

A note on "binders of women." The International Scout, made in Fort Wayne Indiana, was nicknamed "baler" or "binder" because of IH's other products. In the circles I moved in, a binder of women would have been an item of venery, like an exaltation of larks or a murder of crows.

666 @676 absolutely. as i was saying, i really was foolishly optimistic enough to believe that religious institutions would be protected from having to controvert their theologies...but as obama proved with his contraception mandate, if a democrat is in charge, that will clearly not be the case. i do NOT agree with the catholic church's prohibition on contraception, and i think it's actually very counterproductive to a healthy modern society. that being said, it disgusts me that the government would force the church to use its money to pay for something totally against its religious doctrine. :/

668 Well, Jimi, shop around! You guys can probably find a church that'll accommodate you. Episcopalians, maybe, or Unitarians. Even if you can't be officially married in your state, a civil union might be a possibility. Barring that, moving to a state that's more open to your sort of relationship shouldn't be too heavy a burden. If I lived in Utah, and wanted to drink every night, I'd accept that the local culture wasn't exactly accommodating to that lifestyle choice.

The Tenth Amendment enshrines the idea of states as laboratories of democracy in the Constitution. A major cultural change like gay marriage should be experimented with at that level, and not federally, which would force it on communities that aren't able to accept it (at least, not yet).

This makes so much sense (so we'll never do it).  As others have said, some churches will perform gay marriages and some won't.  Everyone gets to find a church that fits with their beliefs.

688 I don't think it's an issue that really has a stable solution on the state level. It's a status, not an action. It'll go one way or another federally, either through the Court or Congress. My own thoughts on the matter are a mix of intuition (which liberals think is just inherited prejudice on this, but given that i never was taught to dislike homosexuals growing up i'm inclined to disagree) and skepticism about the 100% born-this-way theory (while i'm sure it's not a massive number, there do seem to exist people, more women than men, who are more fluid and aren't religiously-motivated ex-gay people) + the idea of gender not being a big deal in parenting. With that last one, I think there should be a preference in adoption, not one that effectively bans gay adoption obviously, but something. I'm not sure how something like that would work exactly though.

Posted by: JParker at October 17, 2012 10:48 PM (8HhF2)

Bloomberg ran a story on how barky and his junta are pursuing WWI era espionage charges against whistle-blowers in the administration, trying to act like they're all about "national security" when the biggest fucking enemy spies in our government are Barky and Holder. This is why I keep saying that Barky and his junta MUST be brought to trial for their many, many acts of treason. And Bloomberg, the "conservative" site, didn't even bother to mention that the most outrageous leaks of actual intelligence have come from Barky and Holder, themselves, from our secret plans and actions to our allies' plans and actions to Great Britain's nuclear arsenal to trying to give the rights of US citizens to foreign terrorists to ....

I tried to make that argument to Andrew Sullivan before they changed tactics and went, what is it?, 0-32 at the state level?  Like many young-ish, well early middle aged people I don't really care what others do.  But it makes me very uneasy when people redefine long, eternally even, held beliefs or terminology and attempt to use the courts to enforce the new dogma on society.

Posted by: Typhoid Mary at October 17, 2012 10:56 PM (/OhbZ)

701 #700: One problem there is that it is in the government's best interests to encourage the classic one man, one woman definition of marriage, because growing up in a mother-and-father household is best for children of both sexes in the overall scheme of things.

Now, I'm not saying a gay couple can't raise a child well. It's just that, as an overall pattern, children grow up better adjusted if they have good examples of both sexes to learn from.

A boy is better off, for example, if he has a father to teach him how to be a man and a mother to teach him how his actions can impact women.

I used to watch Bloomberg for the late night finance from Europe and Asia but I just couldn't take it anymore. Leftist drivel all over the place. The only attraction is that they have chicks with big breasts, short skirts and they make them sit on the tables for their reports ... but that gets old after not too long. Sadly, there aren't any other stations that are broadcasting anything live at night, which just ticks me off to no end. Fox Business is total shit (and they have friggin Imus in the morning - WTF is that about?) and the rest of the channels have reruns all night about crap. Now, I catch CNBC (ugh) in the early morning but just have to put up with big tits and pea brains at Bloomberg for times like now. It really sucks. And this is finance. It's always open. Why the hell isn't Fox Business doing, at least, shitty live feeds all night just reading ticker tapes from the foreign markets?

712 @703 well, i can confirm that the 100%-born-this-way theory is bs. my whole life i was attracted to girls and never interested in guys. i'm super cute ~.~ but i can't talk, and i'm kind of small for the "GTL" era. sometimes, girls have come up to me i guess because i'm attractive, but none have stuck around for a date when they realise i can't anyway, i started considering maybe that if a guy would ever show interest (since i am shorter and quite slender i thought maybe that would possibly attract a guy), i'd prolly take what i could get...yet still when it happened, it was a tough decision at first! anyway, over time, i totally fell in love with super hunky, square-jawed, selfless, military white knight♥ who saved me from my life of abject loneliness xD and iono if i'm "gay" overall, but i'm definitely "gay" for my fiancé! so while there are probably some folks for whom there is a predisposition, the "genetic switch" theory is a crock of stuff, and some people who never had any inclinations a certain way can, yes, CHOOSE to go that way if they actually desire to make the switch!

717 @716 oh, it's even more sensitive than you probably think. there are studies at least in primates showing essentially irreversible epigenetic changes that permanently change, e.g., the sensitivity of the stress axis to cortisol signalling simply in the absence of the female parent. i think you have to have both ORIGINAL PARENTS -- the child's biochemistry actually knows and responds accordingly -- to give the baby the best chance possible. that being said, it's not always possible, and sometimes you do the best with what you have. i don't think two men are ideal for raising a child...not that it can't be done well, but it's certainly not ideal. two woman are a bit better in many ways.

721 When one of the gays in a gay marriage stands up in divorce court and says  "I"m the man, please make ME move out of the house, and here have all my belongings, and please make ME pay alimony ", then they can have marriage, until then fuck off. You want equal protection under the law, then you get to share the pain the normals do in  fucking marriage.

Yeah, its a sore spot with me. I watched too many friends get their fucking asses handed to them in divorces, and their ass is all they had left. I had one friend who had it all, was very smart, was making 300K a year. He ended up homeless and talking to trees in the woods because he had the dick. What happens when the gays divorce, take what each brought with them and go their separate ways? Sounds like divorce will them have to be handled differently. Oh really? If thats the case maybe it should start different, like not be called marriage.

Sometimes I see them interviewing guys and I don't know what these guys are doing to keep their eyes above breast level. And the chicks wear very tight dresses and little skirts at Bloomberg. 738 NASA did some research a while back on controlling a plane with only engines and tied it into the fly-by-wire system.  It was possible to fly a plane pretty normally without all the wild gyrations the DHL crew had to experiment with when a FBW system was made aware it only had engines to work with.

It didn't take too long for the experimental NASA FBW system to "learn" what kind of outputs it had to generate to produce smooth controlled flight.

While the NASA thrust control experiment was a complete success, the scheme has not been adopted by any major airliner manufacturer.

745 I think that's still too complicated. The current drug laws and the "war on drugs" has it's origin in the beginning of the progressive movement of the 1920's. The same Fascists that gave these free States prohibition also gave us the prohibition of drugs. Like the prohibition of alcohol, the current prohibition continues to ruin more lives and kill more innocents in the name of the law than the originating problem. When you unleash a stupid force upon the land, it does terrible stupid things.

That list is suspicious, to say the least, if only because of the criteria its creators use to define "conservative." USA Toady? Bloomberg? Military.com? Gimme a break!

Sure, sensible conservative ideas occasionally drift through those sites, even as they sometimes accidentally do at Tepid Air when Poppin' Fresh takes the day off.

We're in deep, deep shit when NRO, Clownhall.com and Michelle Malkin are rated as beacons of conservatism. People who love to babble about and stamp their little feet in outrageous outrage over trivial events should stick to gazing lovingly into a mirror. People who actually THINK (VDH, for example) are conservatives; Poppin' Fresh and many of the overwrought couch potatoes who contribute to many sites on this list are not.

777 Oh OK.  Yeah, they gave me a clean bill of health and I have a year's break now.  At least from that doctor. But I haven't seen my heart guy in over a year and I am sure he is gonna quit renewing my meds if I don't go in soon.

789 @798- WTH? Don't you have to pass a citizenship test in English to become a citizen and be able to vote?

790 I'm sure others have pointed out how many on that list are not conservative websites.

791 >>>804 @798- WTH? Don't you have to pass a citizenship test in English to become a citizen and be able to vote? In the past 20 years, they have dumbed down the language requirement as to make it mostly non existent.

Posted by: Redd at October 18, 2012 05:22 AM (RoEtU)

792 Wow, complete breakdown editorially over at Doug Ross. Completely misspelled "neo-conservative."

793 Taki's is the only remotely conservative website on that list.

794 A little OT:  This morning two regional conservative radio hosts, Walton & Johnson, read an email from a listener who insisted that Obozo doesn't really want to win this time around.  According to her, his body language and energy level suggest clearly that he's lost interest in the whole shebang -- probably because he's got a guaranteed pension and health care, and a mansion in Hawaii (and will be able to dump the Lady Klingon).

She might be right.  Though to me BHO has always seemed lazy and uninvolved about the entire Preezy thing.
