Mitt Romney and Disrespectin' the Garbage Man
Well based on the ad made by the AFSCME we're supposed to believe that Romney doesn't understand the lives of garbage collectors (and probably despises them too) because he never hugged or fist bumped the guy who used to pick up his trash in CA.
So the new narrative is that he's just a sheltered patrician who wouldn't know a 65-gallon PDE bin from a Boss Corinthian leather tissue box.
But clearly the AFSCME never read Romney's own autobiography (p. 251) where he talks about WORKING AS A GARBAGE MAN as NRO's Charles Cooke pointed out:
During my campaign for governor, I decided to spend a day every few weeks doing the jobs of other people in Massachusetts. Among other jobs, I cooked sausages at Fenway Park, worked on asphalt paving crew, stacked bales of hay on a farm, volunteered in an emergency room, served food at a nursing home, and worked as a child-care assistant. I'm often asked which was the hardest job - it's child care, by a mile.
One day I gathered trash as a garbage collector. I stood on that little platform at the back of the truck, holding on as the driver navigated his way through the narrow streets of Boston. As we pulled up to traffic lights, I noticed that the shoppers and businesspeople who were standing only a few feet from me didn't even see me. It was as if I was invisible. Perhaps it was because a lot of us don't think garbage men are worthy of notice; I disagree - anyone who works that hard deserves our respect. - I wasn't a particularly good garbage collector: at one point, after filling the trough at the back of the truck, I pulled the wrong hydraulic lever. Instead of pushing the load into the truck, I dumped it onto the street. Maybe the suits didn't notice me, but the guys at the construction site sure did: "Nice job, Mitt," they called. "Why don't you find an easier job?" And then they good-naturedly came down and helped me pick up my mess.
And now you know....the rest of the story.
And what a filthy sack of scumbag liars the AFSCME are.
The Tea Party Was Caused by Bad Toilet Training?
Well that's the thesis of a paper published on the NIH web site. Apparently believing in more liberty and smaller government is just a sign of anal stage trauma.
The Psychohistorical Roots of the American "Tea Party" MovementAbstract
Extreme resistance to governmental taxation and authority is derived, according to Freud's theory of anal characterology, from premature and harshly coercive toilet training, in which a child is forced unfairly and against its will to surrender the products of his eliminations (which represent money, among other things, in the unconscious) to parental authority. Among these individuals anal eroticism plays a significant role in the psychogenesis of paranoia and conspiracy theorizing, which may represent a defense mechanism erected against repressed fears of passive submission.
This could be some satire that snuck through the 'layers of fact-checkers' or maybe it's for real. It's so hard to tell these days.
PJ O'Rourke: A Cool and Logical Analysis of the Bicycle Menace
I believe he wrote this essay in the 70's but his analysis still holds up today.
3. Bicycles are unsafeBicycles are top-heavy, have poor brakes, and provide no protection to their riders. Bicycles are also made up of many hard and sharp components which, in collision, can do grave damage to people and the paint finish on automobiles. Bicycles are dangerous things.
Of course, there's nothing wrong, per se, with dangerous things. Speedboats, racecars, fine shotguns, whiskey, and love are all very dangerous. Bicycles, however, are dangerous without being any fun. You can't shoot pheasants with a bicycle or water-ski behind it or go 150 miles an hour or even mix it with soda and ice. And the idea of getting romantic on top of a bicycle is alarming. All you can do with one of these ten-speed sink traps is grow tired and sore and fall off it.
Being dangerous without being fun puts bicycles in a category with open-heart surgery, the war in Vietnam, the South Bronx, and divorce. Sensible people do all that they can to avoid such things as these.
As the Guest of Honor at the 1962 World Science Fiction Convention Theodore Sturgeon told this story of how Robert Heinlein once helped him overcome severe writer's block:
"I went into a horrible dry spell one time. It was a desperate dry spell and an awful lot depended on me getting writing again. Finally, I wrote to Bob Heinlein. I told him my troubles; that I couldn't write-perhaps it was that I had no ideas in my head that would strike a story. By return airmail-I don't know how he did it-I got back 26 story ideas. Some of them ran for a page and a half; one or two of them were a line or two. I mean, there were story ideas that some writers would give their left ear for. Some of them were merely suggestions; just little hints, things that will spark a writer like, 'Ghost of a little cat patting around eternity looking for a familiar lap to sit in.'This mechanical, chrome-plated Heinlein has a great deal of heart. I had told him my writing troubles, but I hadn't told him of any other troubles; however, clipped to the stack of story ideas was a check for a hundred dollars with a little scribbled note, 'I have a suspicion your credit is bent.'
It is very difficult for words like 'thank you' to handle a man that can do a thing like that."
$100 in the 1950's would be worth around $800 today.
But more right than he knew.

I was in a world of hurt last night with comments broken because my damn brother informed me that not only had my family lied to me in 2008 and they all voted for Obama, but that they are planning on voting for him again because Romney is an evil billionaire bastard.
Now, I am confident that he is half wrong, that my mom and dad did not cast their ballot for Obama. But, my siblings all told me they didn't vote McCain, but they didn't vote Obama either. Apparently, they lied.
And, what burns most of all is that my damn family is in Colorado. They fucking need to not vote for Obama this time. I talked until I was blue in the face and thought my head would explode but I could not convince him.

That's why the Leftist hates him. George Bush Jr was also a truly decent guy, and the Leftist hated him. The Leftist understands his cause to be the cause of righteousness, and cannot understand how a decent man can possibly be for the Right.
(I am leaving aside here whether Bush Jr was a good President, or whether Romney will be a good President. The point here is to understand the relationship between the Leftist and a decent guy who is on the Right.)

Peaches, I am terrified about the upcoming debate. I mean they've set the stage that Obama is just an "OK" debater, I'm sure they have hand fed him the questions, they've got every possible liberal media shill lined up to praise him after the debate.
Jesus Christ himself could appear and take the podium next to Romney and yet I fear that we'd still only hear all about Romney's mistakes and how "wooden" he is etc.

Heh.
My old roommate was a big hunter and had a beat up old truck he used to drive to the lodge. He came home one weekend and parked the truck, in the garage, and drove his car to work. A few days later he was heading back to the camp when I heard him yelling for me to come to the garage. When I got there he was cracking up. A banana spider had spun a massive web inside of the cab. I was a little freaked out, out he thought it was hilarious.

Yep, it was Alan Sokal in Social Text.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sokal_affair
In 1996, Sokal submitted an article to Social Text, an academic journal of postmodern cultural studies. The submission was an experiment to test the journal's intellectual rigor and, specifically, to investigate whether such a journal would "publish an article liberally salted with nonsense if it (a) sounded good and (b) flattered the editors' ideological preconceptions."[2]

Yesterday I was driving in stop-and-go traffic on the highway while a spider was crawling around in the front of the car. At one point he dropped from the roof and was dangling a foot from my face. Mercifully, I was eventually able to fling him out the window. I can't imagine the web I would have had to fight through later that day if he had stayed in the car
Earlier this summer, I was driving home from work when I looked up and saw a huge, hairy spider sitting on my rear view mirror. I was only about 2 miles from home so I kept my eye on the thing all the way and as soon as I got home, I ran into the house, got a tissue, grabbed it and flushed the little sucker. Kept my windows up the rest of the summer. Stupid spiders.

But seriously, if their theology wasn't crap, don't you respect them for living their faith?
Don't forget that Usama bin Laden lived his faith.
I learned many years ago, that just because a man believes his faith, doesn't make him not a heretic.

According to American Airlines, there was no sabotage, but I just find it strange that rows of seats are coming loose, three times within the last couple weeks, plus flap problems, gas tanks not being filled, etc, that it was a AA union issue.

OK, I'll switch to wasps if we are telling insects in car stories. Three weeks ago I picked my son up at school, began driving home, felt something on my head, reached up to brush it off, got stung, flung the wasp off me, swerved to the side of the road, we jumped out of the car and I eventually managed to get the bastard wasp to exit the car.
It was only the prelude. The next weekend I went to give my neighbors some bread I'd made, stopped to talk to another neighbor who was gardening and had apparently disturbed a wasp's nest. Unbeknownst to me the wasps landed on me, got to my neighbors, felt something on my head, it went downhill from there, straight to the ER with multiple wasp stings all over my head, throat, and chest. Thankfully, I got to the ER quick enough and started benadryl on my way there, so my airways didn't close. Felt like crap for 5 days after though.

Looked down and a fair sized funnelweb was on the kidster's collar about to crawl into the shirt. Couldn't say anything, as the kid would move, no time to do anything else, had to grab it and throw it. Drowned it in hot water, but it bit through a few layers of the coat I wrapped it up in.

Yeah, but multiple wasp stings can cause airways to swell shut which tends to be fatal if you can't get treated promptly.
I kind of have post traumatic wasp sting syndrome now. At least a few times a day I feel like there are wasps crawling through my hair even though there aren't.
The worst one was the one that had gotten tangled in the hair at my neck. I couldn't get it out, I had to stand in my neighbor's shower until I could get my hair wet enough to stun it and pull it out.

Among these individuals anal eroticism plays a significant role in the psychogenesis of paranoia and conspiracy theorizing, which may represent a defense mechanism erected against repressed fears of passive submission."

Hmm, I think Owl could be a possibility. He wouldn't be scared of a possum, we've had those before and he just barks at them in his "I am going to eat you up" tone. He doesn't seem to fear raccoons either, though I fear them for him, so I am careful to keep an eye out.

Urban legend has it that women in close quarters synchronize their flow. It seems that this would make a run on tampons a sure thing at the local women's prison once a month.
Plus, if I was a guard I would call in sick that week. Picture a prison full of wimmens, hormonal and ragey, with a less than stellar appreciation of societal norms.

Mine comes at 9AM on Wednesdays. I'm usually at this place called "work." I would imagine that Mitt Romney, having earned something like a half a billion dollars over the course of his career, also frequented this "work" place. Furthermore, my trash guy, also pursuing the noble concept of "work" probably doesn't give a shit that he's never met me, but rests well knowing that I am at work so I can pay my fucking trash bill and he in turn gets paid for his labor. He doesn't want a hug. He doesn't want a fist bump. He wants a paycheck, just like the rest of us.

I have called before about it, and he stops for a while and then is back at it again. Asshat. He's also the one who has hit our mailboxes, the hedges, the trees on the other side of the road. It makes me so happy that he is making 70,000 plus a year plus benefits and retirement.

Basically, American tax dollars are going to prop up vile thugs who kidnap, press gang, and otherwise shanghia kids as defacto slave soldier cannon fodder in their revolutionary struggles (or whatever the fuck).
If the USA is to have a core set of values, even if they're only the size of a spec of dust, opposing this kind of shit needs to be one of them. Its a line we should not cross. Ever.

Keep pounding that point. It's important.
Just like the fact that TFG has issued 983 executive orders in less than 4 years, compared to GWB's 63 EOs in 8 years. In fact, one of those EOs was probably to authorize the end run around Congress on the child slavery law.
Another thing that has continually gotten my goat is all these agencies spending $s on whatever they fancy. Two cases in point -- Sebellius 'authorizing' the spending of over $8 billion on a coverup of the fact that OCare slashes Medicare Advantage, and the latest crapfest of Holder 'buying' the Thompson prison facility in IL out DOJ petty cash for a couple hundred million. The Thompson buy was blocked by Congress just 2 years ago.
This shit has me beyond mad and HAS to stop.

In my opinion, the Benghazi criminal debacle eclipses anything this man
has done in the past and all the deviousness of the media before this
time.
Obama's support for child slavery in Congo and Sudan is/was pretty vile too. He had to ignore a law passed by the Democrat controlled Pelosi/Reid congress in 08' and signed by Bush to pull that off.

Sad to say, Obama and most democrats do not think of any one but themselves and their self-righteous positions. But they will abandon those moralistic positions at a drop of a hat, if those position inconveniences them. They do not care about the Africans. They do not care about the Mexicans either. If they did, they would enforce the child soldier laws and would never have done Fast and Furious.

(Reuters) - Iran would enrich uranium up to 60 percent purity if negotiations with major powers over its nuclear program fail, an Iranian lawmaker said on Tuesday, in comments that may add to Western alarm about Iranian intentions.
Mansour Haqiqatpour, deputy head of parliament's Foreign Policy and National Security Committee, said 60 percent enrichment would be to yield fuel for nuclear submarines, which often require uranium refined to high levels.

"465The Video is FUCKING HILARIOUS
http://tinyurl.com/9bynns6"
The deceptiveness of this Obama Campaign spin is quite striking. Notice that he starts off by saying that when Clinton left office we were on track to have no national debt by now. He never mentions what the national debt even was then, and my recollection was that the Clinton surpluses were pretty incosequential - the national debt was essentially stalled, not dropping. He completely ignores the demographics of the Baby Boomers starting to retire, while proceeding with this Obama-friendly folklore based on creative accounting.
And yet, it's practically a breath of fresh air, compares to the outright lying we've seen straight from the President!! In the "You didn't build that" affair he literally took out an ad to make sure we all saw his flat-out lie that it was "out of context" (I'm not sure I've ever seen a sitting President lie so blatantly and publically before). And that was about something I fact-checked myself - on the White House web site! - in just a few minutes. The Benghazi thing was a complete fabrication, too, that inexplicably went on for a week or two, and it appears that many of his empty promises were complete lies as well.

I appreciate the problem with the polling, but it seems like we questioned the polling leading up to the election in 2008, and the result was actually worse than the polls were saying. Maybe it was a matter of the high D turnout not having been predicted.
As to bumper stickers, I notice VERY few, here in a reddish-purple enclave of the People's Repulic of Western New York. I remember seeing ONE lawn sign - in the countryside - for Mitt. I remember seeing 1 Mitt bumper sticker, one Obama '12, and I heard of one that said "Defend freedom; defeat Obama".

This time the pollsters are only getting 9% response. That tells me people are pissed off. I think Nixon's "silent majority" is hiding in that 91% who don't want to talk to pollsters.
9% response. Only 40% trusting the media.

The thing that really makes me wonder if Romney will win is that in my somewhat lengthy lifetime, a charismatic candidate always wins.
1980 and 1984, we had Reagan, who was quite the charmer. In 1988, there was no charismatic candidate, and so the one associated with a previous one won. In 1992, charasmatic slick Willie came along, and won against an uncharismatic incumbant, and won against a DECIDELY uncharismatic Dole in 1996.
In 2000, neither candidate was charismatic, and Bush (associated with his father, who was associated with charismatic Reagan) was essentially tied with Gore (associated with charismatic Clinton). In 2004, uncharismatic Bush had a hard time vs. a Herman Munster look-alike who was known for contradicting himself in the same sentence, and ran as both a war hero and an anti-war hero (for the same war!).
in 2008, you have an unknown charasmatic leftist radical running as a moderate besting a well-known, but uncharismatic war hero who was a moderate running as a conservative.
In a fairer world, people would see that the most remarkable thing about Obama is how far he's gotten despite a near complete lack of accomplishments. In contrast, Romney is extraordinarily accomplished, both professionally and as a person. This shouldn't even be a contest, but that's not the way it works.
They quote stats on unemployment, but that's like the Super Bowl predictors you see every year - with a relative handful of sample points, you can always find something that has matched the data, going back.
We need Romney to pull a Reagan, but Romney is no Reagan.
Still, we can look back to 2010, where people rose up a put a restraining order on Obama by showing up to vote and taking back the House by a wide margin. Maybe - just MAYBE - that will happen again.
And don't underestimate Romney. He may not be Reagan, but he's a pretty competent guy - he may just be able to figure this out, and make it happen. His reputation is as a "miracle worker", after all. He's not Reagan, but he IS Romney, and we may see a whole new kind of winning being defined here.

pretty much all our remaining nuclear weapons are thermonuclear bombs...which are called "h-bombs" in the media, because their secondary stages use hydrogen fusion.
Actually, you're pretty much full of shit. Name one single active inventory nuclear weapon type in the US nuclear arsenal that is a fusion weapon, JUST ONE. Everything we got left in active service is a Uranium or Plutonium fission design with Kt rather than Mt range yields.
Fin just one fusion design in active service, and I'll suck your dick for free.

Don't know if PGIS is still around, but FWIW...
A couple of years ago there was a link to an article (maybe here) written by someone who lived in France I believe during WW2. Years afterward, the author realized she could recognize amongst her acquaintances the profile of people who would have been nazi collaborators during WW2.
The article was terrific and she described the signals and characteristics that she recognized as being the same personality types as the collaborators. There were different types. One was those with a go-along-to-get-along attitude, the kind of person who doesn't stand up for their beliefs or for other people, but will easily and willingly do whatever they think will help themselves gain favor at the time. Essentially selfish people without a strong set of principles.
As I read the article I realized my sister would have been a collaborator. It was a sickening feeling and has bothered me ever since. PGIS's comments reminded me of that. It's an awful feeling when you realize something awful about a family member.

"555 ... Polling response rates were better in 08' too.
This time the pollsters are only getting 9% response. That tells me people are pissed off. ..."
I don't know if we can conclude that they're pissed off, althought hey might be. Mostly, isn't it just the changes in telecommunications, that make it harder to poll people? An increasing number of people have cell phones. Can they even get those numbers? And if they can, how many would answer a number they don't recognize? Even with land lines (that aren't unlisted), people have caller ID, and can't be bothered talking to pollsters.
So I really suspect that there are serious biases in the polls - even when they're not fudging the results, but how can you tell how things are really going?

No, I don't. There were things about him that various people found likeable, but you have to admit - the guy literally couldn't spit out a sentence without stopping once or twice along the way. And that was to try to avoid screwing up, including his legendary made-up words (there must be a better name for what he did).
I do remember, however, that he was great at "Ground Zero" after 9/11, but that was the exception, not the rule, and not really what I'd call "charismatic" anyway. The charismatic speaker has some sort of fast track to people's emotions - their rational mind just sort of shuts down. Bush at ground zero was more like a general giving a pep talk than some motivational speaker.

"579The thing that really makes me wonder if Romney will win is that in my somewhat lengthy lifetime, a charismatic candidate always wins.
Obama is not charismatic. He is impressed with himself, and that sells, to a point. He is repellant, an arrogant jerk. He is the figurehead for a movement, not the leader of the movement.
A lot of people mistake him for a good speaker; he is not. He has a good voice, period. I won a Stradivarius; that doesn't make me a virtuoso."
I agree with most of this, but there are apparently signals in how certain people speak that cause a large percentage of people to adhere to them. This happens a lot with people, like Obama, with narcissistic personality disorder.
Don't get me wrong - it's not a compliment. It's a sign of mental sickness that Obama is the way he is, and that people follow him as they do. Even my Obamaphile brother noticed that it's sick that people chanted "Obama! Obama!" at the DNC, vs. "USA! USA!" at the RNC. It's a classic cult of personality.
I'm talking about the kind of guy who can get a lot of people to drink the Kool-Aid, not about a great speaker, or a great leader who has something to say. Obama is a joke, compared to the likes of Winston Churchill, for example. His style is taken from that of the black preacher (esp Rev Wright), and the likes of Jim Jones are his role models.
Romeny is stiff and awkward in comparison, even if his ideas are like night vs. day compared to Obama.

Yeah, that kind of evil is everywhere. Maybe there was once less of it here, because it took a certain kind of person to pack up and head across the Ocean, but I'm not so sure these days.
But that's nothing! I got numerous nieces and nephews who regularly spew anti-conservative, anti-American, and anti-Constitution hate speech, as though it's normal (and maybe it is now). I even have a nephew who is literally working for the Obama campaign in VA!! I wouldn't consider it such a disgrace if it were simply a Democrat, but considering Obama's anti-American agenda, and socialism, I think of it as practically treason.
He got all starry-eyed after meeting the President and First lady at some point on the job. Partly, I suppose it has to do with his being biracial.
Really, though, the kid strikes me as having picked up on his father's (my brother's) narcissism. Those guys and Obama are birds of a feather, convinced that they know what's best for you and I and that we should STFU and do what we're told - or else.

Tylenol has the lowest gap between clinical dose and LD50 (dose at which 50% of patients die) of any non-prescription medication. That it is legal at all is a serious indictment of what is wrong with our medical system. Secondary (i.e. the one that makes the big bang) on the W-88 is fission designs. Any "fusion" going on in primary is incidental and used only as neutron donor to improve initiation(i.e. not the big bang) performance.
The W-88 is not and was never an "H-BOMB" design. This an optimized two-stage FISSION weapon design. Its bang comes from optimized FISSION, not fusion.
The United State simply doesn't have any more "H-Bombs", no matter how much sophist spinning you try to do.

"619 ...actually, i think you're right. "charisma" is not what bush had...likeability, sure, but not the sort of charisma that projects empathy and tunes in to others' emotional state. sorry, i was using the word wrong!"
At the risk of seeming argumentative, one point to remember about prople with narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) - and Obama is the ultimate case - is that they LACK empathy.
That being said, you may be right anyway. It could be that they "project empathy" without actually HAVING empathy.
Another symptom is that they are notorious for being pathological liars. They believe their own lies, although deep down they probably realize the truth.
I'm convinced that the Benghazi business is more about Obama's NPD than about any clever political calculation. The way the WH acted really just made no sense. I think Obama was simply in denial, and he found some hapless sycophantic flunkies to spread the nonsense, even while other parts of the government were unwittingly spreading the truth. Hillary is obviously trying to cover up what she can, because a lot of it was her responsibility, but I presume that he's the one behind the absurd lies.

My little thing about Benghazi as a failed PR maneuver gains plausibility from this factor....and he's got to be casting about for a "bold, new, effective messaging strategy" in that the failures keep piling up.

NPD is not curable, but one of the "treatments" is to try and train them to intellectually recognize those situations where faking empathy is the right thing to do.
I don't think Obama ever had such professional help. His NPD is so extreme he wouldn't even accept that he had a problem and take measures to mitigate it

those things are not up to very tough jobs. light problems, but not much else. closer to a polisher than a reclaimer.
the blastrac gizmos will give you a new surface, and you can control how deep it goes by the speed you travel. (we are talking mils, deepest would be something like maybe up to 1/8") I used them to prep for epoxy coated floors. one big advantage is it took off actual concrete so the previous shitty coating had to come up with it. another big advantage is the shot falls so clean up is easy and there is very good dust control. It does leave a rough surface, which is good if you want to stick something to it and have it really work.

Home Depot has a red underlayment with little white beanbag-chair filler attached to it that I used when I did my hallway (side note -- nearly freakin' killed me.....laminate is super-easy in rooms, a hassle on edges, a big bitch in doorways -- guess what hallways have a lot of). I did Bruce and it looks and feels really nice. Pergo's generally thinner, and the IKEA stuff thinner, still -- but probably better than granite-painted concrete for that application.

Posted by: a cynical but rarely angry Adriane at October 03, 2012 03:36 AM (/OhbZ)
IKEA's stuff is dirt cheap -- $0.12/ft for underlayment ("NIVÅ") and SLÄTTEN flooring at $0.65/ft (or step-up to TUNDRA at $1.15). At 11x13, you're talking less than $200 of materials for the main floor. You'll want to change the baseboard all 'round, so figure that in, and -- here's where you'll flinch -- transitions at every doorway. I got so pissed that I fabricated custom moldings out of oak on a router table and cut 'em to size with a scrollsaw. At $32/gal for Behr concrete paint, laminate doesn't look half bad.

The physical packaging, weight and (relatively) diminutive size of a mirv warheads suggests otherwise. It suggests that any fusion is simply producing free neutrons to optimize the fission reaction that's making the bulk of the bang.
You can't jam enough fusion material into a secondary's core in this diminutive form factor, no matter where its located, to have that be the main destructive power. You can't stuff 10lb of shit into a 5lb bag.
The most accurate way to describe these devices is hybrids. A tiny fusion reaction pumps neutrons to optimize a fission reaction that makes the bulk of the bang.
The fact that the majority of them have selectable yield should be a clue as to the nature of the secondary as well. You get selectable yields by using shuttering mechanisms to adjust neutron reflector efficiencies on fission cores...you can shape a blast this way too...

Yea, they always want crazy money for that final finish trim shit. Router is the best way to go.
Best way to do new trims for a whole room too. I've turned cheap 1X dimensional lumber into pricy millwork looking stuff. To router all raw trim, shellac knots, and paint trim for an office only took about 3 hours.
A Roman Ogee bit makes a nice classy looking trim edge.

anyway i think it's obvious that, regardless of whether people care all that much about the theology or not, Mormonism is a heretical form of Christianity. however i am a little (just a liiiittle) more sympathetic toward a heretical form of Christianity that largely retains a certain sense of morality and decency for its communities that the broader culture has lost, than a religion that inspires people to subjugate infidels and gives people excuses to act like lunatics.
of course, as we all know from our moral betters at Newsweek, people like Romney only help out other Mormons so nothing counts really. true compassion is passing out birth control and freeing the oppressed womyn spirit.

i give you libs credit for being consistent at least: not only must every aspect of society be radically egalitarian, but everything Officially Bad must suck equally, whether it's a religion that inspires suicide bombers or the religion that founded the civilization without which your dumbass ideas wouldn't exist

So, the hallway had stains in the wall-to-wall, looked like crap, wanted laminate with runners.....there were nine freakin' transitions in that little 3'x25' space -- and more than half had metal doorframes that were impossible to cut under.....and then the differences in flooring height! Go to carpet, go to tile, go to hardwood, go to vinyl over plywood....
It's done now, but I could have done a full basketball court with six doors easier than that little bitch. I really liked the product I was using, but if I had to do it all over again, I'd do it somewhere else.

The dial-a-yield stuff we have is field configurable prior to use, not factory produced variations on a theme.
the website maintains that it uses an LiD fusion core for its main detonation.
As I said, you can't stuff 10lb of shit in a 5lb bag. Obviously, the tiny inner fusion secondary bump is being used to optimize fissile material usage by allowing the fissile shell to be compressed from inside and outside. Its a clever design.
Much more efficient than compressing solid uranium/plutonium baseball size spheres where the innermost region of the sphere wouldn't be a major player in the compression. The shell design has ALL the fissile material participating at optimum levels straight away.
But, the necessity of maintaining secondary's implosion integrity also kind of dictates that the secondary's fusion "mini-core" material (inside the fissile shell) has to be pretty isolated from the primary and won't be getting any fuel boost from anywhere anytime soon -- i.e. its yield has to be fixed and small for the most part.
Clearly the little fusion mini-core in the secondary blows after the outer fissile shell starts it implosion/compression. The x-ray pre-heat would get it ready to go, and the temperature rise and from the HE/HEI compression charges squeezing it and setting off the fissile material shell pushes it over the edge.
I suspect this fusion material mini-core subsystem is compelled to be very small physically just to maintain the physical integrity of the fissile shell during its first stages of compression. If the fissile shell krinkled up like a ball of aluminum foil due to poor physical integrity, the whole thing would go squib. There'd be a bang of some sort, but not what you expected.
If they were in fact using fusion as principal blast force, there's no need for all the complexity involved in the secondary with neutron reflectors, spherical shell fissile material, shuttering devices (which I infer must be present for field selectable yield), etc. You'd just use the primary to torch up fusion material (more or less) directly as Teller's scheme did.

It should also be noted that having fissile material in a shell format rather than solid configuration (as in the A-bomb "classic" Iran/Nork type version) would allow the reflector shuttering have a finer and more predictable granularity of yield adjustment since more of the fissile material mass is near the reflector.

Never looked at Wiki at all writing any of that. Its all stuff that pretty much has to work that way (or pretty close) once you know the basics of how a bomb works, and what kind of physical form factor was crammed into.
Did you get that? THE PHYSICAL PACKAGE told me a lot about how the innards had to work.
Think like an engineer. You have this/that/the other constraints, you can't alter the laws of physics, now how may ways can something possibly work within those constraints?
We already know the internal primary/secondary general configuration from the non-classified stuff that came out in the PRC incident and the design defect review that showed the W-88 vulnerability to accidental detonations due to HE rather than HEI use, inadequate base heat shielding, and a couple of other issues.
Its a tech puzzle. Just fit the pieces together.

I'm technically wrong? Do you believe its easier to tune yield on a solid fissile mass with a reflector shutter device rather than a shell configuration?

When did this become a requirement for democrat politicians? (Obama, Biden, and Hillary have all done it.)
Do Hispanics expect Obama to sound like Jose Jiminez? I don't think so. Do New Yorkers think he should sound like he grew up on the Lower East Side? No.
So is this expected now of speakers before black audiences? Is this something that became required over the last 10 years or so? I frankly don't understand why it is necessary. If Romney had appeared in front of the NAACP feigning a black accent I am sure they would have felt insulted.
Just throwing outsome questions because I am truly puzzled as to why Obama does this.

Any reasonably competent science/engineering undergrad can design a bomb (on paper) that will go bang. In fact, one did years ago. Go Google the name John Aristotle Phillips. He was student in one of Dyson's undergrad physics classes and designed a bomb as a class project as a Hail Mary attempt to save a failing semester. When Dyson saw the Phillips design he called the FBI because it was his opinion it would work After the Phillips story leaked out to the press, Saddam had a couple of his goons looking to steal the Phillips design.
The Phillips design wasn't even a crude Trinity/FatMan bargain basement design either. It was compact, had neutron reflectors, and a lot of the refinements you might see in some of Ted Taylor's fission designs we deployed in the field.
The smallest self contained fission weapon we ever made was a Taylor design. He never said exactly how small it was only that it was smaller than a grapefruit, and larger than an orange ;->

The weird thing about the trip was that they went all around the world, nearly all by land or by sea, and never missed a connection until they got back to Denver and missed their plane to Colorado Springs. And the only place they hated was New Zealand. They said the food was awful, the people were rude -- to the extent that Ginny, who hated to fly, actually asked Robert if they could book a flight back to Hawaii. She wanted to get home, and fast.
I hope New Zealand has changed in 60 years.
