Edited for brevity, taken from 2.0 Blogmocracy.
Hat Tip 2.0 Blogmocracy
So, you might ask, just exactly how could it get any worse than a President ordering the American Military to stand down and simply watch in real time as American citizens are killed and tortured, all occurring as our embassies fall due to some mighty icy political calculus? As it turns out, it looks like not only was a stand down order issued, in three separate iterations, but when a Three Star General in the field took it upon himself to take the action possible to save our citizens, he was summarily relieved of his command.
General Ham immediately had a rapid response unit ready and communicated to the Pentagon that he had a unit ready.
...
General Ham then received the order to stand down. His response was to screw it, he was going to help anyhow. Within 30 seconds to a minute after making the move to respond, his second in command apprehended General Ham and told him that he was now relieved of his command.
So, just so we are all on the same page, not only did Barack Obama not do anything to help the victims of his foreign policy, he countermanded directives for increased security issued by Hillary Clinton. If that wasn’t bad enough, he told people who were volunteering to help, “to stand down.” If that wasn’t bad enough, he fired a Three Star General who did attempt to do something to help the situation, before that help could materialize.

"The Battle Hymn of the Republic" sung by those darn Mormons.
Sometimes when I'm feeling down, I dial that up on You Tube. It always picks me up, even though it sometimes makes my eyes go a little misty.
When they sang it at the end of the Memorial Service a few days after Sept 11, 2001, it was the first time I really felt the impact of what had happened. It sorta felt like my insides had collapsed, knowing that now we were going to be at war.
And regardless of what President Gutsy Call and his sidekick Plugs Biden think, this war with Al Qaeda and their sympathizers is a long way from over.
"...as He died to make men holy,
Let us live to make men free
Our God is marching on...."

Or lose the race to rats
Get caught in ticking traps
And start to dream of somewhere
To relax their restless flight
Somewhere out of a memory of lighted streets on quiet nights...
(Subdivisions)
In the high school halls
In the shopping malls
Conform or be cast out
(Subdivisions)
In the basement bars
In the backs of cars
Be cool or be cast out
Any escape might help disprove the unattractive truth

There was a school that catered to the severely mentally handicapped, and one way they motivated their students was by giving them treats. One day the music teacher decided to take the best singers in the school and form a choir, and in order to motivate the children to sign up, she offered them Coca Cola and cookies after each successful class. Well, this went on for about 2 months, and suddenly parents began to complain. Seems their children were putting on a fair amount of weight. Well, the choir teacher was making great progress and did not want to see the kids stop coming, so she decided to make the snacks a little healthier. She began to give them cans of Tab and slices of apples. This worked very well, the choir became very good, the students lost all the weight they put on, and everyone was happy. So successful was the choir program that they decided to put on a performance for the parents. Only problem was, they needed a name to put on the posters and ads for the program. Finally they selected the perfect name...
"The Moron Tab and Apple Choir".

I'm confident about Romney. I never believed the hysteria about "this is the WORST run campaign in the history of mankind" bullshit that a lot of conservatives were putting forward when Obama was burning through his cash during the summer and Romney was hoarding his. Sandy won't make a difference other than giving Democrats in Northern Virginia and the Philadelphia metro area an excuse to stay home.
However, I am quite worried about how Republicans seem to have cocked-up their Senate chances beginning in 2010. We're going to lose in Maine (barring a split in the leftist vote which is possible), the polls out of Massachusettes look bad. So we now need to take 5 seats to get to 50 + (Paul Ryan). Without the Senate Obamacare stands. With the Senate 85% of it can be removed with a simple majority. Various other pieces can be tossed out by courts like forcing Catholic hospitals to pay for murder pills.
Where do we get the 5 or 6 seats?
Anyone have any thoughts on the Senate?

This needs to come out now, Newt. Perhaps on Thursday, after his preznit lap in NJ to comfort. While presidents do this, you know dang well this is going to require some massive security. I am surprised Christie is allowing this, when Bloomberg said thanks but not now? Huh. And in Colorado last summer, during the wildfires, they basically told him they had no security to spare. I hope one of the bloated rats bites his bony ankle.

This is in reference to the rumors (which seem to be conceivable) about Gen. Ham attempting a rescue and being relieved of his command by his 2nd. (see drudge)
Whether this actually took place or not, it is an example of exactly the sort of circumstance that the military is prepared for.

The problem is that Democrats hate the AC-130. Bill Clinton refused to send them to Mogadishu, and then there's this, about the shooting down of the helicopter carrying members of DEVGRU after the bin Laden killing:
These were the conditions into which Extortion 17 flew. While they were flying under the escort of two AH-64D Apache helicopters and an AC-130 gunship, because of the rules of engagement and the possibility that there were friendlies in the area, the escorts were not allowed to lay down assault fire around the landing zone.
As Extortion 17 was on its final approach to the landing zone, a Taliban crew appeared on top of a two-story qalat (a mud brick house) and fired off at least two RPGs at the helicopter. The second RPG struck near the back rotor of the Chinook, causing the crash.
Amazingly, because of the rules of engagement and the inability to determine whether there were any friendlies in the area, the Taliban team that shot Extortion 17 down was allowed to escape. The only fire from the escort craft noted in the CENTCOM report occurred several minutes after the crash to suppress any enemy attempting to approach the crash area.
That the Taliban team who killed their son was allowed to leave the scene unmolested after causing the greatest loss of life in Afghanistan since 2001 infuriates the Vaughns...The CENTCOM report indicates that the Task Force Commander declined to strike the Taliban targets with the Apaches or the AC-130 gunship because they couldnÂ’t confirm whether the group of Taliban they were following were carrying weapons.

That's quite a leap you're making. You're saying that because an AC-130 was ordered to not fire and two special-operations units were not allowed to make a rescue, that means our troops will fire on American citizens.
Lots of things make you think that American troops will fire on American citizens, don't they?
Let's make little wager: I'll bet you $10,000 that in our lifetimes there will never be an occasion in which the U.S. military is deployed en masse to quell a revolt by American citizens; there will not be a revolt by American citizens; and the U.S. military will not fire on American citizens.

> Romney leads Oakland County by 8.9 percent and Macomb County by 16 percent. Obama is up by 15.7 percent in Wayne County. That number does not include the city of Detroit where Obama owns nearly all votes.
Hmm.
Does that mean they didn't survey Detroit?
(I like the verb "owns" there, by the way.)
But what I started thinking was, can you get an actual poll of Detroit anymore? And are they able to hold an election at all?
I mean, I know from past elections that Wayne County is absurd. It comes in late with a big enough Democratic margin to swamp the rest of the state. (I think the margin for Wayne County in 2000 may have been greater for Al Gore than his *nationwide* margin of victory. Been a long time, and it might have been Wayne County, Michigan margin + Broward County, Florida margin > Gore nationwide victory margin. Too lazy to look it up.)
That was all 12 years ago before Detroit started shutting off lights, police, fire, and other services to swathes of the city. So my question is, do they just make up the election results now? If you don't have any law and order, how can they possibly hold a real election? You know Democrats are going to count those Wayne County "votes" somehow.
In 2010, Wayne County had a population of 1.8 million. In 2008 about 825,000 votes were cast for President, or about 46 percent of the entire population voted. By comparison, 42 percent of the entire US population voted. Despite the social breakdown, therefore, Wayne County managed a better turnout than the US as a whole.

279 "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" is... less popular down south than it is elsewhere although I think its less disliked now than in the past.
That's a myth.
The South was not as 'evil' as it has been portrayed.
And Elvis was raised in the south.

My longest without power was for 5 days in 30 degree weather. I actually could layer clothes and blankets and stay warm enough, but I was so bored I couldn't stand it. I was very very cranky. I know others have gone much longer, and they have my sympathy and admiration.

There's nothing evil about not caring for the north's combat song of choice. They had their battle hymns, too, and on the whole the south was significantly more church-goin' and religious than the North in the late 18th century.
Another favorite hymn is Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing, for this stanza:
Prone to wander, Lord I feel it Prone to leave the God I love Take my heart, o take and seal it Seal it for thy courts above

Another favorite hymn "The Church's One Foundation" The last three stanzas on the state of the church on earth ring powerfully for me:
Though with a scornful wonder we see her sore oppressed, by schisms rent asunder, by heresies distressed, yet saints their watch are keeping; their cry goes up, "How long?" And soon the night of weeping shall be the morn of song.
Mid toil and tribulation, and tumult of her war, she waits the consummation of peace forevermore; till, with the vision glorious, her longing eyes are blest, and the great church victorious shall be the church at rest.
Yet she on earth hath union with God the Three in One, and mystic sweet communion with those whose rest is won. O happy ones and holy! Lord, give us grace that we like them, the meek and lowly, on high may dwell with thee.
Those old hymn writers weren't afraid to talk about the bad as well as the good, and their focus was always on God rather than how I feel about God.

For the past several weeks, the 60-year-old San Francisco resident has frequently bolted awake in the middle of the night, in “a panic attack,” she said. She darts for her computer and checks the latest polls. Some days she’s so distraught that she can’t exercise.
Every morning, she gets e-mails from friends who’ve been just as sleepless. Most are so tense, they can croak out only a few words. “Very anxious.” “Worried.”
“Nothing more needs to be said,” said Edelman, a retired educational administrator.
“After I read Nate Silver the other day, I felt better,” Blume said.

Well this is only the beginning of the Winter season.
We have no idea what sort of other storms could be hitting us.
So...my fellow morons, I highly recommend the 'Candle in a Tin Can' thing for warmth.
You can use a small can with a candle in it, to warm your hands.
You can position several larger cans with bigger candles in them, around in a room...and it will raise the temp, and take the chill off.
It's a cheap, easy prep for emergencies...that anyone can afford.
But you have to remember to do it, before the power goes out.
Candles sell out pretty quick.

Saw that.
They keep saying that...that Romney should be hounding Barky over Benghazi.
Other libs on Fox have said this too.
I dunno.
They're Dems...it could easily blow up in Romney's face.
Because then, there would of course be the response that "Romney is politicizing the Benghazi tragedy".
Which is messed up...because the whole Benghazi tragedy was caused by politics.
Barky's politics.

Does anyone find "Happy Halloween" inappropriate? I find it analogous to "Have a fun Good Friday." It's supposed to be, well, unsettling.
For sheer firepower in a hymn, it's hard to beat Old Hundredth, the Doxology. Known in our country as "Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow," although there's a filthy monarchist version Over There, "All creatures of our God and King." We don't much hold with that.
