I ain't got no time to bleed prepare a decent ONT for the non-AoSHQ Prime morons so y'all are gonna have to provide your own pantless self-entertainment tonight.
There are three ways that men get what they want; by planning, by working, and by praying.
Any great military operation takes careful planning, or thinking. Then you must have well-trained troops to carry it out: that's working. But between the plan and the operation there is always an unknown. That unknown spells defeat or victory, success or failure. It is the reaction of the actors to the ordeal when it actually comes. Some people call that getting the breaks; I call it God. God has His part, or margin in everything, That's where prayer comes in.
--Gen. George S. Patton in "The True Story of The Patton Prayer"
A good solution applied with vigor now is better than a perfect solution applied ten minutes later.

Jonah Goldberg: It's Always Gotterdammerung on the Right
If I had a nickel for every time the right was pronounced dead after an election, I could get me an iPhone 5 with accessories and still buy basic dental insurance for DiT. Not that I'd actually do this since it'd be wasted anyway but I could afford it.
It's always Gotterdammerung somewhere on the right. That's not to say that the conservative movement and the Republican Party are doing great. But whether fueled by left-wing glee or right-wing dread, rumors of the right's death are always exaggerated. It's true that conservatives are more despondent than I've seen them in my lifetime. But that's in part because they've had things so good. There have been bumps, but the story of the conservative movement has been one of fairly steady growth and success.
In 1938, the American Enterprise Institute was founded to combat the ever-rising tide of statism. In 1955, National Review was launched to "stand athwart history, yelling Stop." In 1973, the Heritage Foundation was established to push back against the liberal GOP policies of the Nixon White House. In 1982, the Federalist Society was created to dissent from the doctrine of the "living constitution." In 1996, Fox News was launched to appeal to that boutique market niche - i.e., roughly half the country - that felt the media had drifted too far left. In 2009, the tea parties were ridiculed as a racist hissy fit.
At each of these junctures, conservatives were ridiculed for their fool's errands and fretted over their lost causes.
I wish they had extended this chart back through the 19th century. I remember a financial guru pointing out that 100 years ago an ounce of gold would buy you a very nice man's suit whereas today it would buy you...a very nice man's suit. Now this was 20 years ago but I suspect that eventually gold will return to this value range.
Given all the incentives to give out higher grades it's a wonder the average GPA is still under 3.5.
Only 2 shots but it is .45ACP and only 5/8 inch wide.
Obligatory Prurient Material: Go google 'helen hunt full frontal nekkid sessions' and follow the first link.
Yeah it would have been even better 20 years ago but hey better late than never.

I think we'll have a real tough battle against Hillary Clinton in 2016. It'll be another history making candidate.
It will all depend on the economy. If there is a major turn around by 2015 then I think the Dems will probably control the White House for 16 years(2 Obama terms and 2 Hillary terms).
It is safe to say no second term scandal will sink Obama. The media won't let it happen

Now, an ounce of gold will not only get you a really nice suit, but a pair of nice shoes, socks, a shirt, and a belt, and perhaps a nice felt fedora, if you skimp a little on the suit.

It is safe to say the US media does not reach at least 40% of the electorate at all except as rage fuel.
It is safe to say losing 15+ stars would be a scandal they can't hide but to be fair and perhaps more reasonably 15 states invoking the 10th and saying "do your worst" would do just as well.
Screw him I am not moving to the left.

Bullshit.
In my lifetime we have *never* shrunk leviathan.
Gingrinch got the closest...but since he left Congress we now have double the government we had then.
Government now consumes almost half of the GDP, and will exceed that in the next 4 years.
So yes, conservatives have created more infrastructure to fight the left. Great. But we've failed politically and we've failed culturally.
Times are bad. Very bad.

No way. Hillary is running. 2016 will be the last election she can run.
Remember, Hillary actually beat Obama in 2008 in the popular vote. She just lost in primary delegates. Obama also got whipped on in a few state primaries in 2012. He isn't like by a lot of the Dem party. They just couldn't bring themselves to vote Romney.
Hillary will run in 2016 and she will win the primary. The RNC should be planning how to run against her now.

I'm no leader I'm a basketcase. I just know history and economics a bit. I aim to find someone who makes some sense on the matter I guess and try to protect as many as I can from these Ivy Legaue know it alls wrecking our national economy over and over and over. I will probably try to calm down enough not to sound insane in person and volunteer as well as donate.
This is the first race I couldn't help since I was 16. I'm humbled you think I'm a leader but in all honesty I once thought I was great shakes but in my brief time in the army compared to some I met many finer men. My heart is breaking my love of country and wanting to serve her got me out of poverty I am not racist and I am not heartless and I am subjected in a nondirect calumny by the media that aimed in another direction would honestly be called blood libel.
I had hoped so hard to beat the current occupant, and I lost hell maybe we all lost.
I'm already Galt to a degree I've earned more, and it seems to me it will burn I just advocate expending what effort we can preparing and protecting the red.
Best case scenario is we are in a cold civil war that stays cold and I'm really tired of posting on the worst case tonight.
I'd run for office but unlike the many fine folk who do not run because they have nothing to find but know the media will try I have plenty to find and am crazy enough to get in their face about it.

The left is hot for amnesty and if it hits Texas goes blue and we lose freedom period.
That IS the battle hell we can barely win with Texas we will never win without her and we will be at best the EU with retards in charge and at worst a special ed Communist nation in 20 years.
No if you stumble run red and run to texas if you need quick gain because that is the boom area of the three.
My play anyway, I have people in Louisiana, but if I were starting cold Id run to texas and work with the local model to teach the mexicans we're the better deal.

I don't think that if some states democratically voted for secession and enacted it peacefully that there would be a war.
American...and Transnational Progressive policy have been strongly pro-"self determination" for some time. Plus the latter like the idea of a weaker America anyway.
That presumes that those separating could keep their wits together and not pull a Fort Sumter.
The Obama brigade follow their messiah not because they want to die for him but because they want more free stuff...and what do they lose when the poor, inbred, racist hicks leave the party? Same amount of loot fewer people to fight over it...right?

Usually rendered in English as "behind every great fortune lies a great crime."
I can do one better, because I can identify the nature of the crime in nearly every instance -- the co-option of the state.
Small and medium fortunes are won one sale at a time -- which must have some perceived value by the purchaser or the sale would not occur....but if the state is involved then you must transact whether or not it pleases you to do so.

Yes, isn't it quite odd that Walmart management has been sliding farther and farther left, with lots of donations to Democrats, and yet somehow they are still all that is evil, right wing fat cats who steal from the little people and are horrible awful stains on humanity.
My mom's neighborhood in Denver was up in arms about a proposed Walmart as part of a redevelopment of CU's medical center complex, which has sat vacant for a decade now. They protested and protested and had community meetings and bitched to the city council and in general made it so unpleasant that Walmart pulled out. Everyone cheered and patted themselves on the back. And, in the meantime there are dozens of vacant buildings spanning a several block area that remain a blight on the neighborhood. And will for a long time because the developer flat out said that no other major big box chain wanted to go in the space. But, that's OK, vacant buildings which attract the homeless and drug users and partying kids are waaaaaay better then a Walmart according to the smug liberals in the neighborhood (and yes, sadly, my family feels that way to)

take something like health care and the left. what the left really wants is single-payer, and Obama didn't even propose or promise it, yet we all saw the cult-like following he obtained anyway. and if you really ask a lib what they think about ObamaCare, they will say "well, it's not single-payer, but it's a step in the right direction". They will stand up for ObamaCare even though it's not really what they want. I think we have to have a similar frame of mind with our candidates but I just don't see it happening. There always seems to be a substantial enough bloc of right-leaning voters who will throw a hissy fit about any of the positions of any of our candidates.

but take, for instance, Marco Rubio - what if he won? Would he enjoy the same type of intense following from the right that Obama enjoys from the left? I don't think so and I think it's because of one single issue, not because of his broad principles and conservatism generally
there are too many people on the right who will say "He's in favor of amnesty therefore he's not a real conservative and I refuse to support him", when people on the left don't generally do that sort of thing for their candidate

Oh I've ice skated tons too. I was hell on wheels on roller skates when I was younger and did a pretty good impression of someone who knows what she's doing on ice skates as well.
Yeah, and yikes, I do worry about what we put on our feet at the roller rink, the skates seemed far sketchier than I remembered. Plus, everything felt sticky and dirty and I joked I wanted to go home and take a decontamination shower. But, we had an awesome time, so the ick and stick was worth it.

Because left wing candidates don't move right. If Obama promises tax cuts they know he doesn't mean it.
On the other hand, if a Republican talks up say amnesty they will focus on it and ram it through if at all possible if elected.
And I don't think as a general rule conservatives will ever idolize a politician like the Dems do with Barry. Reagan, for example, is a man I respect - but I wouldn't run around claiming he was the second coming...

I lived in Norway from 1978 to 1981. Here are some facts about the country most people don't know.
1. Norway banned kosher slaughter over a century ago.
2. More Norwegians fought for the Nazis than the Allies in World War II. The last of the Nazis killed by the Russians in the Reich Chancellery in Berlin were Norwegians.
3. The entire Norwegian social safety net depends on income from the petroleum industry. While they lecture the rest of us on renewable energy, they make all their money on oil.
4. Norway's carbon output doubled after it signed the Kyoto Treaty.
5. The children murdered on the island by Anders Brevik were being trained to break the Israeli naval blockade of Gaza and disrupt Israeli border patrols. Many of the kids thought Brevik was pretending to be an Israeli soldier, so they approached him and tried to yell at him to put down his gun. He shot them dead.
6. Norway violates international whaling bans with impunity.
I really hated life in Norway. The countryside is beautiful and the food is great, but the people were insufferable, intolerant, racist, and smug. They import tons of immigrants but don't let them assimilate.
Like almost all leftists, they only pay lip service to their ideals but don't actually live them.

And here in lies the rub. We are conservatives because we are not hive minded collectivists. Yet the benefits of the collective in partisan political warfare are clear.
I don't think we can win that way. There is *much* we could borrow from the left in political tactics - but I don't think uniting behind a philosopher king is something we could do even if I think we could stomach it.

Yep, that was the main reason. Gray also played the race card against him, even though both are black. Gray claimed that Fenty was more concerned with the needs of the richer (aka. whiter) wards while he would be a mayor for everyone ("One City"). Fenty wasn't perfect but he got quite a few write-in votes during the general.

Not going to disagree, but GOP candidates need a little voice in their head to tell them to shut the fuck up before you say something stupid. Some of them don't understand that just because the questioner isn't asking another question, you don't need to keep talking, and that is where they make their mistakes.
Bush II was good about just answering the question and then stopping. He didn't feel he needed to go on and on. He had a straightforward answer, then he shut up. He made them ask more questions, and he didn't volunteer too much info.

Think about it, who are the vast majority of individuals getting abortions? Rich, single white women and poor, single brown and black women. We know how single women and minorities vote so we can safely assume how their progeny would vote.
I shudder to think about how badly we would be losing today if Roe hadn't legalized abortion in the '70s. The Democrat base would be literally millions stronger. The Democrats don't realize it because they're too busy pandering and being demagogic on abortion but their committing demographic suicide. They're cratering their own future base. I say let them have at it. Cruel, but effective.

Nice summary.
Norwegian girls were pretty and extremely easy to get in bed; the shag tobacco for rolling your own cigarettes tasted great; and the boiled sausages called pølser were delicious on steamed buns with sweet mustard.
Still, I hated living there. So did every single Norwegian I met. At least that's what they said when they were drunk, which was most of the time.
My third night in Stavanger, I met a bunch of kids in front of a hotel, and a giant, drunk old man asked us to help him up the stairs. We did, and when we let go of his arms, he toppled forward face first into the corner formed by the two sheets of thick glass serving as the walls of the lobby. Imagine a big glass "V"; he fell into the open end of it, his nose right in the apex.
As he slid down into a horizontal position, his cheeks dragged on the two sheets of glass. His face made a squeaking sound on the glass, like when you clean a window. It lasted about eight seconds until he was completely supine on his belly.
That was my introduction to life in Norway.

Your comment reminded me of this:
Mitch: You ever been in love?
Curly: Once. I was driving a herd across the panhandle. Texas. Passed near this little dirt farm right about sundown. Out in the field was this young woman, working down in the dirt. Just about then she stood up to stretch her back. She was wearing a little cotton dress, and the settin' sun was right behind her, showing the shape that God had give her.
Mitch: What happened?
Curly: I just turned around and rode away.
Mitch: Why?
Curly: I figured it wasn't gonna get any better than that.
Mitch: But you could have been, you know...with her.
Curly: Been with lots of women.
Mitch: Yeah, but you know, she could have been the love of your life.
Curly: She is.

None of that has anything to do with what I said. I quoted facts.
And I still hated living in Norway.
The government was so intrusive that it censored foreign films, cutting out most scenes of violence. The censorship was so insane that sometimes the movie would end up making no sense whatsoever.
In Halloween, for example, they cut out the choking scene of the girl in the car, so she was suddenly dead for no reason. When Dr. Loomis shot Michael Myers at the end, the Norwegian censors cut out all the shots except for one, so Loomis appeared to have loaded his pistol with only one bullet. He fired once and then the gun clicked on empty chambers.
Pious, absurd stupidity and a total lack of respect for art and human intelligence.
And don't get me started on the horrific, Third World standard of health care in Norway and the two-tiered system of bent doctors and black-market medical treatments available on a cash-only basis. Everybody broke the law, so why have the law? Why have a nationalized health-care system that everyone knows doesn't work?
To prove to the world how advanced they are, of course. Window dressing. Lip service. Play acting. Pretending.

I'd argue there is no such thing.
There are just people who you mesh with better. If you get lucky you find a partner you mesh with very closely.
A little less lucky and you find someone you are happier with then without.

The fundamental thrust of social conservatism is to protect the rituals and traditions that make up society. They've been accumulated over hundreds or thousands of years of trial and error about what works best for a society as a whole. Social pressure to conform and to follow the rules is about convincing people to take actions that benefit themselves and society in the long run, even if they don't realize it at the time.
You can't have a free society that populated by the Sandra Flukes of the world: filthy whores who'll fuck anything with a pulse and whose highest goal is their own pleasure. Any society based around that will collapse at the arrival of the first man who promises to take care of them. Once pleasure becomes the highest good in life, it's all that matters.

pronouncement: "gotta run a ....." // bullshit, gotta run a person. the failure is not the message, the failure is the message is so badly packaged that not enough people will actually listen to the message.
pronouncement: "the message ....." // bullshit, there is no perfect message. it is about the personality, not the message. different personalities could sell lots of different messages, if they could sell any message at all. the message has to match the personality, and the personality has to match the message.
pronouncement: "the way you win is .... blah, blah, what worked before in the year 19___." // bullshit, what worked for that person, worked for that person -- because it seemed genuine to enough people. Reagan was an optimist, but that will never help someone else if their optimism seems contrived or phony to too many voters. Besides being optimistic at the wrong time makes people look like they are insane.
pronouncement: "people want ..." // bullshit, most people don't have the slightest damn clue what they want. They have to be told what they want, and then told it was all their idea in the first place.
pronouncement: "we're screwed ...." // Actually, that is true, but not in the way people are claiming. The other side is just as screwed, they just have not caught on yet. Ask yourself, would you really change places with that batch of fuckheads? Really? They have power, but they have no chance, and they have no soul. Fuck them. Unless they destroy the planet first we will eventually kick their sorry asses.
pronouncement: "we're screwed, we will never .... " // -- hard to say, but probably bullshit. the other side sucks so bad that we just need to get our shit together and they will have nothing.
pronouncement: "the only way ....." // bullshit. self explanatory.

The first rule of the ampersand club is that you don't talk about the ampersand club.

Aaaaand at each juncture cited, the governance of the nation had already ratcheted further left. Only in a few cases, mostly at the state level, has governance moved rightward and stayed there since March 1933 (if not October 1929).

Stymied by the ampersand. Give me time. I am "of the kind" dears.
I dig this club. But I am also fairly certain that we are "non-beloved" by the current. And I told my baby sis - don't sign-up for any of the .gov's or .orgs. They are not our friends. We have also started a campaign at my small office to only support teh "locals". Likeminded and whatnot.

Never been, but that was the gist of it.
Most Minnesotans will swear by walleye. And sneer at the FIBs (Flippin' Illinois Bastids) who will make a 600+ mile round trip to fish for yellow perch. The whitefish, now, is something else entirely. I am an abject piscivore. I eat fish candy for breakfast. And I have never had whitefish that was at all "boardy" or stiff, or anything but moist and succulent. It is really yummy!

I as a Chorlottean am (heartbrokedly - butt-hert-edly) a Panther fan.
We do a "theme" tailgate. Pig for the Redskins; T-bones for the hated Cowboys; blackened chix for ATL; shrimps and gumbo for NO; etc.
-
We hosted the AFC Chargers and talapia fish tacos were "in order".
-
But my fave was SF in 2007 (when we were all going to be rich "house-flippers") and we did filets and dungenees crabs. Good times.
-
I remember doing NY strips with "compound" butter (and Gorgonzola), on any given Tuesday. Regrettably, those days are gone. Oh well. It was extravagant. But fun while it lasted. I'm not sure if I'll see those days again...

Sucker, oops, sorry. I mean, great!!
the gop message is lost because it is too sterile, lifeless, and skew to too many people's point of view. There are some very simple ways to overcome these problems. (Generally stolen from Hans Bleiker). They are:
Sell the problem, not the solution (hard for gop cuz they like to think about how smart they are and are real proud of their solutions. unfortunately, a sure loser every time. Sell the problem, then sell the problem, then sell the problem.)
Can all the damn nerdy stats. Anecdotes have power -- Romney should have come up with about 50 U.S. citizens that have a specific problem and told the story of those people over and over and over. Only after telling the story do you add, "and there are another 27 million Americans who have exactly the same problem as Mrs. Jones."
Never, ever, ever, allow the other side to give off the aura of expertise. Constantly sell the problem, and constantly take them down a peg.
There's more. Ever heard of Hans Bleiker?

tell stories that make the small government,
constitutionally limited government point. --- gotta do this part really slowly ---
Here's how I would have started: (Romney speaking)
"Agnes Jones and her husband Ron lived and worked in ____, __ for the past 45 years. They worked hard and saved their money so they would not have to deplete the earnings of their children, neighbors, or you. They had a plan to avoid drawing social security even if they earned it and paid into it for a lifetime. Trouble is, the preznit has screwed the economy up so bad that the fed will have to hold interest rates near zero for a long time. In the meantime, the Jones' are being bled out. Their savings should be paying $2200 /month. Instead they pay $101 /mo. They simply can't live on $101 /mo so they are spending their savings way too fast. Meanwhile the fed is printing money so fast that inflation is a guarantee, so when interest rates do go up, and they will, the Jones will not have the savings needed to keep up with inflation. It is literally the worst of both worlds. There are _____,000 Americans with a story very, very similar to the Jones. Maybe that is you. If you want to help the Jones' or yourself, you have to vote against this incompetent gov't."
Sell the problem, use only anecdotes. Make it very personal and very real. Always attack and never let up.
50 stories like this one. The student who will never be able to carry the debt and all the rest that has been handed to them. The 48 yo woman supporting kids and parents. etc. etc. etc.

I am lucky that we have the redoubt. I hope and pray that it does not get that ugly. But, being a reluctant pragmatist, I am preparing for my idea of WorstCaseScenario -SHtF. Converting to hand pump on the well, and a wood-burning vehicle (it's really not that difficult on a "naturally aspirated" carbuerated engine - think pre-fuel-injected '78 pick-um-up truck), and a still. Year 'round garden, and rabbits in their hutch, and bees in their box-hive, and goats in teh yard. -
Friends and family. Birds on the wing. Deer in the woods. Fish in the stream and pond. We'll barter. A country boy will survive. Life goes on. God willing.

But it appears that the shooting war may have already started in the ME between Israel and Hamas. Gird your loins. I fear we may be in for a ride.

CG-
I am a "sad clown". I never thought I would feel this way. I am a stranger in a strange land. I am disgusted at a "majority" of my shared citizenry. Is there any current responsibility? I weep for the ideal of the Republic. Dark days currently. But, if there is any rectitude possible, ours is the right "ideal".
But, you know, the FF's (Founding Fathers) had a much tougher "row to how". Don't lose your optimism. Cling to what is real and immediate. Friends, family, and all that is good in "the everyday". We have an uphill climb, but it is not unsurmountable. Be patient. Truth and justice will prevail. Ours is the good fight.
-
We may not see the fruit in our lifetimes, but humanity certainly will. Our argument for "God-given" inalienable, self-evident, is incontrivertable. Is it not? Keep the faith. Be princepled. Be loving and gracious. We still live in the best era. Be pugnacious and rebellious when you need to.
-
I even cried a little after the election. But, crying time is over. Now we have to prepare for what's next. Remember to pray and be thankfull.
It will be OK.

Not this time. The majority has finally figured out how to vote themselves wealth from the treasury.

Nah not really...I had trouble with it at first too but there's really only two possible answers I'll let you pick I am not into "follow me to my stupidity" games.
1) the American electorate that can be bothered to vote are fucking retards
2) people are pissed that barry was not enacting more retarded communitay organizing bullshit.
Good luck

For some reason, I thought the creation of Panem would happen later. Oh well.
Good thing I'm already in Texas. The rest of you morons need to get here ASAP before the remaining country burns.
