Damn Dirty RINO: Ladies It's Time
. . . we had a little chat. But first, let me stipulate at the outset that I really love you people - most of you, anyway. There are a few scattered hither and yon that I wouldn't give the time of day. Still, on the whole, almost all of you are fine, decent, good-smelling human beings without whom the world would be a vastly less wonderful place.
It's just that over the past several decades you've assumed a prominence in the body politic that, for all your wonderful qualities, you do not deserve. That's not to say you should be ignored or repressed; I'd never advocate such a thing. But, the bare fact of the matter is that you have become so coddled and catered to by politicians looking to garner your support that you're in danger of becoming completely infantilized.
How Israel's Top Rocket-Hunting Ace Got His Start
By wasting his time:
While many of the boys in Idan Yahya's high school class were buffing up and preparing themselves for selection into elite combat units, this gawky teenager was spending "a lot of time" playing Warcraft - the real-time strategy computer game where opposing players command virtual armies in a battle to dominate the fictional world of Azeroth.Four years later, the high school jocks who sweated it out in pre-military academies so they could make the cut into the Israel Defense Force's Special Operations units are now crawling through the sand dunes on the outskirts of the Gaza Strip and watching while Idan knocks rockets out of the sky hundreds of meters above their heads. Idan Yahya, 22, an Iron Dome "gunner" in the Active Air Defense Wing 167, currently holds the record for the number of rockets intercepted: eight.
People in the army describe him variously as a geek and an ace. But the geek who grew up playing Warcraft is now a highly prized soldier on the cutting edge of real war craft. He's the Israeli army's top rocket interceptor.
If you've got $200K, you can get yourself a Spanish permanent residence (and complete EU freedom of travel).
Spain has between 700,000 and 1.1 million unsold new homes following the collapse of its real estate market in 2008 with an estimated third of them being designed as holiday homes in coastal tourist areas
Spain plans to offer foreigners residency permits if they buy houses worth more than 160,000 euros, in a desperate attempt to reduce the nation's glut of unsold property.
...The scheme would also allow foreign buyers to move around the 25-nation Schengen zone freely, as the agreement allows holders of a residency permit of one country in the area to travel to - though not work in - any other.
Want to Live Longer: Get A Puppy And A Spouse
Owning a dog, and having a happy marriage and plenty of good friends are key to longevity, according to a landmark study.
The Grant study found all these are more important than where you were born, whether you were born into a wealthy or poor family or what social class you are in.
...The report found that longevity has far more to do with happiness than social class.
It's not too late for either.
'Having a loving family is terribly important, but from 70 to 90 years old you'd be surprised at the people who, despite enormous deprivation, manage to find love later on.'
He added that he enjoyed following the lives of the men in the study. 'It gives me an awful lot of hope,' he said.
And I know a guy who get you a sweet package deal. You like Shar Pei's right?

Andy, I heard a rumor from the mass GOP that brown will be running for an office other than senator in 2014.
You hear anything like that?
Pardon my manners.
I read in (I think) the Herald that the Dems are very wary of appointing Lurch to SecState because they are concerned that Brown would be front runner in the special election.

I used to own a Sodastream. The short answer? No. Long answer? No.
There was definitely a cogent difference, not that it was bad tasting, but not the alternative I was looking for.
I did find the lemon/7-up type flavors tasted closely to those respective brands, but then I'm mostly a cola drinker.

Reminds me of when I used to do things like annual reports, and I'd sneak in crap from things like romantic novels in the greeking. Crap like "he parted her curly wet folds with his fingers sending her nearly to the brink...". Slowly working from a couple of words like "throbbing erection" to full on sentences in the financial sections.
Great fun to watch clients going through the comps wondering if I'd get caught. My idiot partners would have had a cow. Assholes.

He had fashioned hooves, essentially, satyr legs for the part, which he wore--and which were completely out of frame so it just looked like he was walking funny.
Based on what I heard, it was actually the guy who played the Master who fashioned the legs. John Reynolds - the actor who played Torgo - put the legs on backwards so it looked like he had giant knees. For some reason nobody told him to put the legs on properly and he wore them that way the whole time.
The setup hurt quite a bit and he took painkillers. This made him somewhat loopy and added to Torgo's wobbly performance. He would commit suicide shortly after Manos was made, although this was apparently due to personal demons and not the spectacular failure of Manos (The people at the El Paso premiere laughed so hard that the cast and crew departed early, and by the end the movie was met with a loud chorus of boos).

This might be weirdly effective. Libs teach that deference should be given to those who are 'above' you-- Government officials, teachers, professors, etc. They are part of the Elect and as such, should be listened to. They have their hangers on (celebrities, yogis, grievance mongers like Code Pink) who are deputized to Spread the Word, but the final authorities remain the same.
I believe it's easier for a right winger to fake being a lefty than vice versa, because you don't really have to *know* very much-- you just need the formula and the Enemies List, and the script writes itself. That's why trolls are easy to spot, here: They invariably screw something up because they don't actually do the reading.

-Been lurking the ONT the last few nights, but wanted to share. While looking at the high school rocker pics on that Visboo site, I found this- Israeli Army Girls. Mostly cute, fresh-faced, stompy-booted, Joowish Gurlz. With automatic weaponry. What's not to like?

i'm the best guitar player i know. in fact, i'm the best guitar player anyone who knows me knows. i make old men who have been playing guitar all their lives jealous with my guitar playing.
anyway, that's the impression that everyone else in the band had...that he was too much of an egoist who couldn't stand not being the centre of attention on stage.
Posted by: jimi ray at November 27, 2012 11:46 PM
You're the best guitar player you know and make other guitar players jealous? Perhaps I had you all wrong, you weren't kicked out because you sucked. You were kicked out because you sucked on guitar and thought you were fantastic. Jimi, don't take the my opinion to heart or anything. It's ok to suck. I sucked on guitar and bass. But, I worked hard at making the grade and making myself invaluable in other ways. If you were any good on guitar you wouldn't have been kicked out... unless you were a huge pain in the ass.
Oh, all singers are preening, egomaniacs who want all the attention. That's why they're lead singers.

Those mediums and so on prey on people with messed up lives and weak personalities.
They do, but that's not all they catch with their nets. Here in CA, plenty of people embrace such things, not out of desperation and weakness, but because they want to feel special, to transcend the ordinary reality that ordinary people live in. Real life just isn't good enough for them, you know. They're different.
Magical thinking. Like thinking you can run the White House by making a magic speech from time to time.

Is there a critical age to pull your kids out of the public school septic tank? Or age range that would best be served by homeschooling? I'd guess that kindergarten through fourth grade or so would not be permanently damaging. Eighth grade through senior seems like it would be a life sentence.

She was the least-worst feature of the half-time show. Kind of easy on the eyes, and her voice didn't sound like fingernails on a blackboard. Totally forgettable song, just elevator music. Zombie Gordon Lightfoot has lost his voice, and they didn't give him enough time to perform more than a third of Canadian Railroad Trilogy, which completely negates the whole point of the song. And the less said about the other two acts, the better.

Is there a critical age to pull your kids out of the public school septic tank?
Depends on the school, the kid and your own opinion. James Dobson, who early in his career was dead set against homeschooling, recommended at least homeschooling in middle school. Many successful homeschooling parents I know schooled their kids through elementary and middle school and put the kids back in for high school.

The ironic part is that at times I do have a freaky precognition ability. I have completed people's sentences after the first word to the point where a friend of mine (not a goth, but a signal corps LT) told me to change the subject, which I did, to what she was next thinking. This was on the way down to the Richmond, Va, equestrian festival in 1995. That weekend, on the last lap of the steeplechase, I had a premonition that the last horse was going to trip over the steeple thing and break its neck. A quarter lap later, yep. It wasn't like "wouldn't that be cool if..." but a certainty that it would happen. Gruesome sight, I tell you. It's not something I can actively harness, but it comes in handy at times at parties and such like a parlor trick.

I believe the herd in Canada is 100's of thousands strong. I think you can thin the herd up there? Caribou becoming extinct in North Idaho is like designating downtown LA as protected bear habitat. anyway, it doesn't really matter what i think about how i play guitar, nor what girls who find me rather attractive think; whenever i play for other musicians, including active professionals twice my age, they are instantly seriously impressed, and other guitar players typically seek to avoiding having to play in front of other people around me for the embarrassing obvious contrast. it's pretty clear nobody has kicked me out of a band for lack of ability.
Posted by: jimi ray at November 28, 2012 12:35 AM
Jimi, I hate to tell you this, but the reason these other musicians avoid playing with you, is not the reason you think it is.

i don't play in public anymore (still daily at home!), but i know for a fact i could instantly get thru any audition for guitarwork in just about any genre (ion't do hard-country)...supposing the frontman could deal with a super-precious, adorable guitar player xP

And yet, you're young, "super talented" on guitar, but you've been kicked out of bands, others avoid playing with you and you're currently doing.... nothing.

I know about the QB situation there since the backup QB transferred to Hampden-Sydney where I am an alum.
The next 5 years are going to be very interesting in college football, especially if UVa and UNC bolt to the Big10, VT and NCSU bolt for the SEC, and Clemson, FSU, Miami, Pitt, Syracuse, and GT bolt for the Big 12. I get the feeling that there will be 4 mega conferences that will then feed into the BCS championship making the conference championship games the national quarterfinals.

"drop the jealousy, chump"
Sigh. Yes, jimi. I'm jealous of you. How many records did you do? I'd rather have the vinyl I did, without talent, than the talent with nothing to show for it. All the talent doesn't count for shit, if you can't work with others and you don't apply yourself.
"nobody "avoids" playing with me. i could get in any band i wanted to get in. not only am i incredible at regular ol' flatpicking guitar, but i'm also incredible at finger-style guitar, slide guitar, and alternate tunings, all skills which are not terribly common in today's popular music."
Any band? Slide and alternate tuning? That's cool jimi. We have something else in common. Besides being ordinary on guitar.
"what do i care about playing in front of twenty or thirty people in some ill-lighted bar? "
Jimi. Man, aim higher.
"i'm 27 years old. i have things going on. anyone in the over-25 crowd who is still playing music without a major-label record deal is a loser -- and they all know it, too. not that i ever tried to "make it", but i'm certainly too old to get back up on stage. i'm post-graduate. it's not a thing you do when you're post-graduate. "
You don't need a major label, or an indie label, anymore. Not really. The industry has changed. If you got the goods, you can break in. Different hurdles to overcome, but it's not as exclusive anymore.
"doing nothing? laff. i've accomplished more in my academic career than three generations of your family will accomplish in their collective lifetimes."
I was talking about doing something with guitar.
"i'm relatively young -- compared to a bitter old goat like you -- super-talented on guitar, AND super-adorable. that's like the pro-music trifecta...and yet i could care less about some stupid puerile dream of a professional-music career."
Jimi, there's serious money in pro music. Especially if you're super talented on guitar. But, I guess you're above that sort of thing.
"and for the record, i have never actually been "kicked out" of any band"
I thought you said you went pushed out? A couple of times. Oh well. Whatever. Jimi, was just trying to forward some practical advice, though bluntly. I doubt that you're as good as you think you are.And if you are, you're too much of a pain for anyone to work with. If you really got the goods, at 27, and able to join any band, you should be doing it. But, you don't want to. That's ok. It's probably for the best. If you know what I mean.

You're talking big money. The $300 3-panel set from Harbor Freight that comes with VRM/charger is cheap Chinese polysilicon and heavy. More efficient/lighter cells are going to run into the $1,000 range, and high capacity LiPo's (aside from being a fire hazard) are pretty expensive (but offer the best commercial performance/weight option. Better than Li-Ion)
The 3-panel HF cheapie only puts out 45W under ideal circumstances. With typical FL exposure it will charge a flat car battery in about 7 days.

Those panels can be ganged up. There's a lot of talk about the latest high performance LiPo batteries among model airplane/heli enthusiasts here:
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/index.php
At lower charge/discharge rates, the high-cap ones should last longer than in an airplane/heli where they might be getting asked to dump 400+W continuous in 5-7 minutes. Some of the larger electric jets are using monster LiPo's in that crank out a couple thousand watts.
In high drain/fast charge situations, the inner cells get cooked and that kills'em. Your situation won't do that.
Also consider an ordinary car alternator. They put out in the 50-100W range and work when its raining, night time, cloudy, etc. If you're near running water, you can hook up a belt/pully system and water wheel to drive it and have continuous power.

The HF system is intended to use a battery for power buffering/conditioning. Panels charge the battery, battery runs the inverter.
Most affordable inverters produce pretty jaggy waves anyway as do most wall wart laptop chargers. Sometime there's not even a diode bridge in the wart charger, just a diode, so they're putting out a pulsed wave and wasting half the power.

That's how laptops conserve power with CPU speed throttling...less state changes, less power.

Most PC power supplies have a "power good" signal line coming out of them to the motherboard. When that status line shows bad, they'll simply cease functioning.

I would say that "let it burn" is based on forcing the welfare state to deal with its inherent fantasies; while Cloward-Piven is based on having the more conservative faction deal with their own. Neither is sustainable -- the funding for the great Socialist state must come from profits in the great Capitalist economy -- because otherwise there aren't any.

If you don't give a shit about politics, there's some great opportunities in the Russian Federation right now. They're still working on unwinding the old Soviet immigration and foreign investment apparatus though, but Putin seems intent on seeing that through.

Thank you. IMO, we have no choice, as no one will deal with it. We will lose our system of govt and our society and our way of life, if it comes tumbling down. We will not have the likes of the original Founding Fathers to put it back together. Doesn't really matter what we wish or do - no one in power will do anything about the fiscal/financial instability. If they do anything, it will be the wrong thing, such as grant more dictatorial powers to whomever is in charge. Funny how after 2008, nothing was done to deal with the financial system except to sweep the instability under the rug. Off to bed, I think.

As for the end state, it depends how fast reality asserts itself and how stubborn the status quo party folks are. Right now, we'd have to lose 40% of the federal government (and as a consequence 10% of GDP) to balance out. In 2000, that would have been 10% (and something negligible), so we're running out of time to salvage that government at all. What happens then is anyone's guess, but it's pretty much inevitable. And most of us have wasted enough time trying to warn the Obama voters in our lives what lay down this road, so it's pretty much time to move on anyway.

neway, here is a youtube video with noodling improvised on the fly. it's not very good -- the tone, especially, is really iffy ._. but then i couldn't hear it while i was playing, and i wasn't going to re-record something useless because the tone was off x.X

So apparently you have this amorphous, undefined fear of LIB without being able to describe what exactly about the idea makes you worry. Or even what the idea encompasses.
Now you are starting to sound like Tim Geithner, who when confronting with the Republican/Paul Ryan tax plan, said in essence "we don't have a plan, but we know we don't like yours."
So again, lay it on me/us -- what does LIB mean to you when you see that phrase?

lol, god, you're a shameless old cocksucker. in fact, people ask me to play on their records pretty often, but since i have far too much pride to put my work on a record that's just going to collect dust in someone's garage -- sound familiar? -- i inevitably pass on the requests.
let's have some perspective: what i just wiped my ass with for nine minutes -- totally off the top of my head! -- is FAR better than anything you have ever striven to play in your pathetic life. that was ONE guitar. ONE track. ONE take. you couldn't play anything like that if you practiced for years, much less pull it out of a hat without ever having played anything like it before.
but you're still going to insult me?
Posted by: jimi ray at November 28, 2012 04:47 AM
Hey, I said it was nice. Are you better than me on that sort of thing? I think so. But, that's not a particularly high bar, jimi. I don't play that style. What do you want? To be told you're fantastic, or something? You're ok. Not bad. But, not bad is pretty... ordinary. Lots of people can fiddle around on the couch and sound ok. Suckage and hackage is a big bracket. The video thing isn't that useful.

don't be so fucking jealous, grandpa. it really is a bitch emotion.
let's see: guitar talent that makes you look like a sideshow-circus clown? check.
Posted by: jimi ray at November 28, 2012 04:47 AM
You really should consider why others don't want to play with you, jimi.

you're a washed-up fucking nobody with a record you undoubtedly couldn't force upon relatives as a christmas gift.
i'm going to be exactly what i want to be: a house-"wife" with a job doing theoretical research and publishing papers -- maybe even make a little bit of difference in the science world! even if i don't, marriage is my american dream.
you, on the other hand, chased money and fame on a delusions-of-grandeur train of dreams...and ended up with neither fucking one.
not so much worried about being a loser so long as i have ROCK STARS to which i can compare myself, gotta say!
i understand why you'd be disappointed that someone with actual musical talent thinks your failed ambitions are a fucking joke, but by the time i was born, your musical career had long since landed in the gutter.
i've got my american dream.
thank god it doesn't require dealing with ego-ridden, delusional chumpfests like you pathetically hanging on to the tattered, childish dreams of awing adoring audiences with their transcendent stagecraft.
you're gonna tell ME what i "ought to" be doing with my throwaway six-year HOBBY?
laff. keep dreaming.
Posted by: jimi ray at November 28, 2012 04:47 AM
I'm delusional? I know I'm not much chop. You, however are fantastic, apparently. You insist that you are. You compare yourself to whoever it is you're comparing yourself to. Based on your stated experiences, I figured you might get something together, with a bit of adjustment. But, there's a personality thing going on, it seems.
I was wrong. You were right. Playing in bands live or for recording, is far beneath your awesome talent. Keep it to yourself. The world doesn't deserve you, jimi. You made the right choice.

Plus, they've been "educated" for decades that women have been oppressed forever and all over the world by a massive conspiracy that wants to stop them from having orgasms. They've been told this since they were little. It shouldn't be a surprise that they believe it. It worked with Eve.

Funny enough, it was written by Peter Mayle -- the same guy who later wrote all those books about living in Provence.
