I have very limited bandwidth where I am so tonight's little shindig will mostly DIY.
Here Neo-neocon examines why supposedly conservative writers fell so hard for Obama in 2008 and stayed enamored for so long. It's also a good argument for why we should enjoy speechwriters' work but never trust them politically.
After taking a lot of criticism over his model Nate Silver has made a bet on the outcome of his model. But the public editor at the NYT is not happy about this and had a severe case of the tut-tuts. However Alex Tabarok at Marginal Revolution points out that putting your money where your model is actually results in better predictions. Even the most partisan still don't like losing money or a public wager.
One of the good things about professional baseball is that its open to anyone with the skills regardless of background. The downside is that it's a long hard rad to make it to the show.
Commenter stats will appear tomorrow night.
Tonight's post brought to you by always good advice:
That is all.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/ article-2227011/ BEL-MOONEY-My-prudish-husband-left-I-lied-sex-life.html
When I met my husband 40 years ago I knew he was ‘the one.’ He had firm opinions on sex before marriage (outdated even then) and was a virgin.
As
I got to know him, it became clear that heÂ’d never consider marrying
somebody with ‘history.’ He thought sex special and wouldn’t want to
imagine his wife having it with others.
But, by 22, IÂ’d been having sex for four years. Madly in love and wanting him to marry me, I lied.
Any thoughts, morons and 'ettes?

Pretty good. Tossed out my dinner because it was hospital meatloaf, and while I'm willing to try all kinds of nasty things, that was not one of them. Then an hour ago, they came and told me that surgery was a go in the morning, so no food after midnite. But Jets pizza delivers to the hospital--Score! So I'm dining on a small combo and watching this horrible football game.

Obama is a terrible public speaker.
He whistles like a tea kettle, his phony black shit is pathetically tranparent and, as for content and substance, he says exactly dick.
If he were white (which he halfway is, in any case), no one would say that he was worth a crap as a public speaker. It's embarassing to read some of this praise from libs and RINO conservatives.
After five years of his whistling and stammering and pandering and mediocre bullshit, I can't remember a single profound thing that he has ever said.

NEW CNN/OPINION RESEARCH POLL OUT
ROMNEY 49 OBAMA 49
ITS DEAD EVEN I TELL YOU DEAD EVEN
YOU COULDN'T SQUEEZE GREGS DICK BETWEEN THEM ITS SO CLOSE!
METHODOLOGY
A total of 1,010 adults were interviewed by telephone nationwide by live interviewers calling both landline and cell phones. All
respondents were asked questions concerning basic demographics, and the entire sample was weighted to reflect national Census
figures for gender, race, age, education, region of country, telephone usage and whether respondents own or rent their homes.
Registered voters were asked questions about their likelihood of voting, past voting behavior, and interest in the campaign; based
on answers to those questions, 693 respondents were classified as likely voters. Respondents who reported that they had already
cast an absentee ballot or voted early were automatically classified as likely voters. Among those likely voters, 41% described
themselves as Democrats, 29% described themselves as Independents, and 30% described themselves as Republicans.
BASED ON 307 REGISTERED VOTERS WHO DESCRIBE THEMSELVES AS DEMOCRATS AND 111 REGISTERED
VOTERS WHO DESCRIBED THEMSELVES AS INDEPENDENTS WHO LEAN DEMOCRATIC, FOR A TOTAL OF 418
REGISTERED DEMOCRATS-- (SAMPLING ERROR: +/- 5% PTS.)
BASED ON 293 REGISTERED VOTERS WHO DESCRIBE THEMSELVES AS REPUBLICANS AND 152 REGISTERED
VOTERS WHO DESCRIBE THEMSELVES AS INDEPENDENTS WHO LEAN REPUBLICAN, FOR A TOTAL OF 445
REGISTERED REPUBLICANS -- (SAMPLING ERROR: +/- 4.5% PTS.)
now look how they managed the likely voter breakdown
693 respondents were classified as likely voters.
41% described themselves as Democrats,
29% described themselves as Independents, and
30% described themselves as Republicans
-------------------
SO they have a tie among Likely Voters with a D+11 sample???
D + FUCKING ELEVENTY?

It's quite simple: Colin Powell is voting for Obama for President for the exact same reason that the members of the Alabama Citizen's Council in 1963 voted for George Wallace for Governor.
Powell is disgraceful, and, moreover, he's too fucking stupid to see that.

If a D+11 poll has Romney and Obama tied, we're looking an 1988-style landslide for Mitt.
My thought on the polls was less "tinfoil hat" than many conservatives, but now I'm starting to really believe they are actively gaming these polls and are being shameless about it.

The votes, the enthusiasm, the message from the Democrats is....FAIL.
The Republicans will retain the majority in the House (and may ever add a few seats), close or take the majority in the Senate, and win the White House.

As a writer, I don't look at it like that at all. I like to write because I like to share my experiences with others, hopefully in an entertaining way. Writing is a talent, just like playing the piano or painting or coaching in the Super Bowl. Some people have an aptitude for it and choose to exploit it. Sometimes it's a chore, but sometimes it just flows and your hands can barely keep up with the muse.
Besides, using your sports analogy, you've seen interviews with coaches and players, right? They are some of the most boring people on the planet--they are so focused on their craft that they never learned how to communicate properly (again, sweeping generalization, but just watch any sideline interview to for an example). For those of us that don't have the ability to play or coach on a major-league level--in any endeavor--writing lets us be near it and be a part of it.
I love me some St. Louis Cardinals, and even though I can't hit a 70 mph pitch, much less a 100 mph one, I'd *love* to be able to follow the team around and write about them every day. Unfortunately, somebody else already has that job. We writers need to find our niches.

A total of 1,010 adults were interviewed
693 respondents were classified as likely voters
41% described themselves as Democrats
29% described themselves as Independents
30% described themselves as Republicans
D+11
But if you look at the actual calls made and their breakdown:
307 R.VOTERS DESCRIBE THEMSELVES AS DEMOCRATS
111 R.VOTERS AS INDEPENDENTS WHO LEAN DEMOCRATIC
FOR A TOTAL OF 418 REGISTERED DEMOCRATS
293 R.VOTERS AS REPUBLICANS
152 R.VOTERS AS INDEPENDENTS WHO LEAN REPUBLICAN
FOR A TOTAL OF 445 REGISTERED REPUBLICANS
that's about an R+3
How do you get from R+3 to D+11?

All I can figger is that Rove wants to help boost the R turnout here to give Bammy a lower margin than he had in 2008 and/or help the local ballot measures.
The most interesting race in LA is between a couple of long time Dem reps who got redistricted into a race for the House: Berman and Sherman. It's turned into a steel cage death match. There was a pushing/attempted headlock by Sherman on Berman at a debate, some pretty nasty mailers, etc. Since I'm registered R, I've got several mailers from both candidates touting themselves as the most conservative of the pair!

Actually, that's the main thing that's puzzled me about those saying I'm a Dem plant. I predict a tight race. How would that discourage Republicans to vote?
And if it did, what would that say about Republicans?
Obviously in a tight race, there's more reason to vote.

Romney isn't only using the GOTV for himself, but he is also hoping to drag some R's across the line too. Barky was able to drag a few across the line in 08, and they were his most loyal followers in the House. If Mitt can help drag some Senators and Congresscritters across the line, they will line up with him for the next 4 years.
Plus, if Mitt starts sweeping the swing states, some of the west coast dems may start getting discouraged and decide not to vote, allowing the GOP to pick up some seats they may not have thought about picking up, especially if our side keeps getting their votes out. That is why you don't get our just enough votes, you get out every single one of them.

Yeah they are, Tammy.
And that Chick-Fil-A Day thing happened around August 1st, iirc.
The polls aren't reflecting the real sentiments out there.
People were pissed off in 2010.
They're still pissed off.
Things haven't gotten any better since the last national election in 2010.
If anything...they've gotten worse.

If you mean the sister, alot of commenters at Jump the Shark felt the same way although alot of the hatred seemed to be based on some other show she'd been in that I'd never watched. She didn't bother me in the first two seasons because I'd like to have boned her.
Re. annoying: I did learn to hate Diane in Cheers once it went into heavy syndication and I was watching her five or more times a day! She'd never bothered me for the fresh-run, weekly viewings (although I had a cousin who hated her even that infrequently) but daily viewings just drove me nuts.

California sucks. I'm entertaining recommendations for places $500K gets you a little land without a meth lab next door, first-rate schools, and tolerable weather, 'cause absent a plague of flesh-eating locusts in Sacramento I'm not sure what's going to fix this state.
Interesting...I'll note that I live in a solidly Dem district. Not Pelosi country but close. A local pol (whom I know personally, if not closely) has been sending out a bunch of mailers trumpeting his closet-GOP credentials - former Republican, tax sanity, etc. - in his effort to beat another barking-moonbat local pol from a bit further south for a state office.

If Obama wins, we look forward to:
20 trillion or more in debt, more crap from the UN, more health care crap, following international law not constitutional law, more disrespect for Israel, more PC crap, more cover-ups, more Benghazi style incidents, MSM and Hollywood become even more powerful than they are now, unions will continue to suck the life out of our educational system, companies will continue to leave America, small business won't matter anymore to this country, more than 60 million people will be on food stamps, Big Bird will be a mandate at all children's birthdays, we will have to pay for Sandra Fluke's sex life, and DWS will continue to rise in the ranks of the Democratic Party. How much suck can I get in one paragraph? Anything else?....
....God doesn't hate us this much. So Mitt Romney has to win this Tuesday. And if you haven't spoken to the Big Man upstairs in a while, it wouldn't hurt to do so before the election. Well, that is unless you don't believe in the Big Man upstairs. Then you're on your own with that one.

There were four black teens going to West Trenton, the end of the line, who were freaked out by all the noisy white people on their train. I don't think they were Romney supporters, but they were outnumbered 200 to four and didn't seem eager to debate.
Event was short waves of high energy music and speeches, broken up by long boring stretches of waiting for the tardy nominee. Everyone was cold but excited, and eager to greet. In an empty stretch, my new chum glommed on to a pack of Mormon elders who had skipped evening services to see Brother Mitt and Sister Anne, and we had a lovely chat about Jesus's visit to America, the Word of Wisdom, their lovely temples and missionary life.
I was mystified by the whole encounter until I learned that their chapel is mere blocks away from my own neighborhood. (My new acquaintance is quite the conniver.) From there, it was about sixty seconds to the offer of a free ride home, skipping the 1.5-mile walk back to Yardley Station, the cold wait on an open platform, a crowded train and a 20-block trip from Phila 30th Street to my house.
Cars had to be reconfigured to segregate these wanton Gentile women from the missionary lads, so we found ourselves instead traveling unchaperoned with two adorably wholesome teen Mormonettes. Decidedly unwholesome thoughts were flooding the back seat, but Nephi and Moroni gave us sluts gratitude, modesty and restraint. Talk all the way home was Electoral College strategy and how awful the press has been. In our parting prayer, Our Heavenly Father got a double dose of thanks for new friends Jo and Mike, and triple beseeching for the safety of Brother Mitt and Sister Anne.
I've never loved the nonexistent God more than in that moment.

Years ago I was on a date with a fundamentalist protestant. When I told him that I'm Catholic he said, "Don't you Catholics drink and gamble in church?"
I said, "No we drink and play bingo in the church hall. Oh, and that's real wine for communion, not juice."
Posted by: nerdygirl at November 04, 2012 11:13 PM (nPXok)
A friend of mine from college is a Catholic priest, and that is the only reason I joke about them. He pretty much would do anything, except for the sex thing. Today, he pretty much pours more wine at communion than is needed (you probably know why), and managed to get himself transfered back to the area where our college is. He is at the college every Friday and Saturday night having fellowship with the students.
I also grew up Episcopalian, and we drank the real stuff at communion too, but they didn't have bingo because the little old ladies would have had a heart attack having bingo in the church, not because of the gambling, but because those bingo players would be in their church. It was a real warm place to go to church.

Daily Kos is apparently pushing a story that they have "proof" that Romney paid no taxes for several years. Let's see if the media takes the time to fact check the story leading to it being debunked, or if they take it at face value and broadcast it with glee.

Subject: Every person with your name who's voted
Friend --
This is cool:
You can see exactly how many people named the same as you have already voted.
Take a look at that. Then share it with your friends so they can see how many people with their names have voted, too -- and look up their polling place.
Bottom line: We need every person with your name -- and everyone else, too -- to make it out to the polls to support President Obama.
So help get the word out -- and the vote:
Thanks,
Yohannes

Well seeing as how this here is an open thread, this here is my request to reopen the discussion. I finally got the perfect one.
The Battle - from the score for Gladiator. I don't know why I couldnt think of it before now. I frikkin love that movie and that score.
For those of you who aren't freaks for Gladiator, this is the music that is playing at the beginning of the movie when Maximus is demolishing the barbarian horde. See now? You got it.
How freakin perfect is this track for the situation we are in? We are the f-ing troops of Rome and we just need to be reminded of how mighty we are. We are going to kick ass and take barbarian names on election day dammit!
And seriously, take a listen to the whole soundtrack while you are at it. Remember what the movie was about? The Emperor had all the advantages but Maximus came back from supposed death to take him out without any advantages but his own courage and awesomeness. That is the American people folks. They think they got us pinned down. They think they are in control of us. Huh.

This is such a delicate dance. A little initiative is not a bad thing at all, but I recommend stroking her cheek or some other slight physical gesture first. And then just a gentle kiss, unless she is very responsive herself.
I've found that going for the deep hug and then giving a little resistance when she starts to pull away works. I don't trap her, but slow her down just enough that you can look her in the eyes when she's only a couple of inches away. If she's interested, she'll want to linger close to you, whereas if she's not you'll be able to tell right away.
But yeah, don't be afraid to just move in for the kiss. Never ask.

44 and 60 : GOTV has been the plan all along in all the battleground states. That is why they are battleground states. The advantage R/R have is in enthusiasm, but that enthusiasm is useless if those people don't all vote. Remember, this has been an uphill battle all the way to take these states. Obama started with huge leads.
The long primary season was the problem--Barry was running attack ads in Ohio on Romney when he still wasn't the nominee.

Yeah...asking for a kiss is not good.
It seems whiney and needy.
But telling her that you find her...kissable...is a compliment.
Telling her you "want to kiss her", is a strong statement of fact, and not whiney.
It's a show of self confidence.
It puts her on notice...and puts the ball in her court.
Something that many of us find irresistable.

623Great news about the military guys taking out the ad. At first I wondered why they waited so long as that could have beefed up Romney in Ohio, but it's probably been designed to be late so that the Dems couldn't charge Mitt with being a war-monger. It's obviously supposed to help him with military in VA and hopefully with vets in Ohio.
------------
Which Ad?
I thought that there was going to be one...tonight...during that "Seal Team Six" movie that aired on NatGeo.
So I watched it, just to see the Ad.
Didn't see one.
I don't think the movie did anything good for Barky, though.
It totally destroyed their excuses for 'not sending' anyone to rescue our guys in Benghazi.

I am assuming you mean detachable mag shotguns. Any pump or semi feeds from a magazine, it's usually a tubular magazine underneath the barrel. The only ones that don't use a magazine are the double-barrels or single shot breech-loading shotguns.
And I suspect the answer to be regulations regarding hunting that limit magazines to three shots for shotguns, no sense in putting a 3 shot box magazine in a hunting shotgun...and most of them are primarily hunting shotguns. The Saiga-12 is one of the exceptions.

Daily Kos is apparently pushing a story that they have "proof" that Romney paid no taxes for several years. Let's see if the media takes the time to fact check the story leading to it being debunked, or if they take it at face value and broadcast it with glee.

"Evangelicals are also not being accounted for - we're going to see turnout among that group comparable to 1980 and 84."
Well, surely the polls, including Rasmussen must call some of them, wouldn't you think? I am hoping that Ralph Reed has been successful in both registering the 2 million he sought to register and getting them to the polls to vote R/R.
I read an article that interviewed some big wig Baptist. Man, pissed me off big time. He was saying that it does matter that a man who might be President is a Mormon whereas it doesn't matter that a senator, like Harry Reid, is one. He said that a Mormon President would "legitimize" that faith in ways a lesser representative could never do. And yes, he called it a "cult" still. Come on folks, don't you'all fear everyone converting to Mormonism. I think these guys like that are just afraid of the competition from Mormons to convert others. I guess not even Billy Graham's ad helped this guy see the light.
I live in CA. I have known many Mormons--great people. When I read of a preacher, a big wig like that spouting such nonsense, I feel as if they live on another planet. I think he was from VA--whoops.

They were just a little bit upset with me, but to hell with them, it's about time for them to move out anyway (Daughter just turned 27 last weekend). Doesn't mean they WILL move out though...

Not so much. Curious would start with a self-absorbed anecdote from the previous day and then end with some question. "Do you think this could be true? What does everyone think?"
Sam is much closer to Jimi Ray; supreme self-regard, unearned condescension, sophistry piled on top of dilettantism, and, of course, the conspicuous contrarianism.

Thanks, PurpAV.....I'll take a look at it in the morning, to see if it's something simple.
Water isn't coming out of the dishwasher itself.
It's seeping out from the tiny space between the side of the unit, and the cabinet wall...where it is installed.
So maybe a leaking hose? I hope so.

I've got 22 people working for me who all seem to want to be there, the hours go fast, and the money is pretty stupid. Having been a high-school hockey coach for nearly a decade, adults are easy. They act like 17 year old boys sometimes, whereas 17 year old boys are what they are all the time. There are no hoses in that location. It is likely that if this is not a recurring problem that a dish is diverting the spray directly against the door seal. Look at how it is loaded and see if you change the loading it makes the problem go away. The seals degrade over time but you can nurse it along for awhile just paying attention to the ricochet of the water to the door.

Yeah, the crack between the unit and the cabinet wall...are where the hot water hose and the drain hose go through...to connect to the hot water line and the sink drain.
There are holes in that cabinet wall, for those two hoses to go to the dishwasher.
And I just looked...it could be the seal that's leaking at that side.
But there isn't any water underneath the washer door itself, it's dry under there...beneath the seal.
Water was seeping out on the floor...from that crack between the unit and the cabinet wall.

If its a few years old, the rubber seal washer on the water hose might just be whupped enough that its seeping (that you can replace yourself). Does it leak constantly or only when running?
If its constant, then its something between the units internal water valve and the water supply. If it leaks only when running, then its something internal on the unit side of its internal valve.

Yeah, the hoses are the same age as the unit...about 10 yrs.
Had a new water heater put in last year, and it's a good one...I set the temp up higher, to disinfect dishes and dirty towels and such.
The higher temp of the hot water might've aided in causing a hose to leak?
I dunno.

Water was seeping out on the floor...from that crack between the unit and the cabinet wall.>>
I based my assessment on the fact connections are at front center of the unit for hot water feed and rear bottom for drain (generally). to get a leak at the side other than on the floor should be a seal issue. Not there so don't know but I also can' hurt so it is what info that's worth the price paid.

Most exotic thing that's ever happened to me religiously is I was fishing in a trout stream in the middle of Missouri one summer weekend and a vanload of Baptists came by and asked if they could baptize a guy. It was apparently his preference to be baptized in his favorite stream instead of at his church. Really cool--they actually sang "As I Went Down in the River to Pray," like in O Brother Where Art Thou?
My grandfather was a southern Baptist, who eventually converted to my grandmother's Catholicism. The Baptist part of the family is still trying to "save" us, but since it's all done out of love, it's pretty inoffensive stuff.

Take a look under the sink and make sure the receptacle its plugged into isn't getting wet either. In my development almost every one of those dishwasher/disposal receptacles has caught fire and torched up at some point due to shoddy "backstabbed" installation, and water under the sink.
It looks like an ordinary duplex receptacle, but internally the halves are usually split with one half on one circuit, the other half on another and 240v between them -- IOW, there's 240V with in the wall box, 120V of that to one half, 120V to the other. 240V is enough for a self sustain electrical arc

Grew up Episcopalian - one of my cousins was dating a Baptist girl, who was always amazed at all the standing up - sitting down - kneeling going on at church. Then another cousin married a Catholic girl, which really freaked my aunt out (old South Episcopalians didn't care for the Catholics very much...). He had to agree to raise the kids Catholic, but then the kids all went to a private Baptist school - but I think they are still Catholic (or at the least confused...).

Hell, I can't get tinyurl to work so go to Hotair's greenroom and find the video of Mitt and Ann's arrival at rally in PA tonight.
Crank up the volume for the music and soak in the crowd's love.
There's a yearning in this country, the deepest of yearnings in the hearts our people. It's not for a man or for a woman, but for an idea. We yearn for one who is willing to protect it, to sanctify it with respect, the respect given it by our forefathers, by our mothers and fathers and grandmothers and grandfathers who sacrificed to make something of this land, this people.
As Mitt prays for worthiness before he goes before the people of this land, let us remember it's the idea we wish him to embody, to protect.
Take someone to the polls!!!!!

Not an overly hairy guy (no where near Robin Williams) but regularly showering and shaving my face was the limit of grooming I was taught to do. I also was fine with that for the women I dated. If going past that made them feel sexy so I might get it more often the extra work was not ever disparaged but also was never necessary.

858...There are no hoses in that location. It is likely that if this is not a recurring problem that a dish is diverting the spray directly against the door seal. Look at how it is loaded and see if you change the loading it makes the problem go away. The seals degrade over time but you can nurse it along for awhile just paying attention to the ricochet of the water to the door.
----------
Yeah, the crack between the unit and the cabinet wall...are where the hot water hose and the drain hose go through...to connect to the hot water line and the sink drain.

If this is the side of the dishwasher next to the kitchen sink, immediately take all the stuff out from under the sink and make sure that it's dry in the undersink cabinet. If your dishwasher is making that area wet, it will rot the cabinets in a not-very-fun way. Otherwise, you have more time.

Did that. It's dry under the sink...and dry where the hoses are coming in from the dishwasher.
It's one of those kind of installations, where the drain hose connects to the bottom of the disposal unit, beneath the sink.
Dunno if there is enough hose length to pull the unit out from it's space under the countertop...without yanking the connections lose.
That's beyond my upper body strength anyway, to do something like that.

car inspection! (And you can tell from what's driving on the TN
highways...). When I moved back to Texas, I had to get back into the
routine of the annual car inspection (and hope mine would pass), plus we
now have emissions inspections in the cities... but also no state

There are only a handful of counties that don't require emissions testing yearly; most are very rural and can't spare the expense to build inspection points. None in mid-TN since the late 80s. Neither good nor bad, just fact. You've been gone a minute, beagle.

Yeah, what's up with that??? In my youth I lived in Northern VA for about a year and had to pay "personal property tax" on my CAR... Having grown up in TX with none of that nonsense, I was totally confused - and then there was the state income tax in VA. Unwinding all that after I moved to TN was a mess, too - but at least I got a partial rebate (or something like that - it was over thirty years ago, so my memory is just a wee bit foggy...).

Used three towels...bathsize ones...one at first to sop up the water, then one after another, laid down to absorb what was still seeping out.
So it wasn't like it was a gusher.

It has to be the hoses, I think...because it stopped after the dishwasher stopped running.

I agree with Purp that you need to see if you can ease the unit out.
Unless this was installed at the same time as the cabinets (and even then good practice is to leave lots of slack in power/water/drain lines) you should have enough slack to pull the unit carefully out.
this will allow you to get a look at the connections.
At worst you might have to undo connections and add temporary extensions to do so. (if you do, and you had this installed, I'd have some words for the installer. This is not good practice)
Pull the unit out. Install extensions if necessary and put in a load and run.
You should then be able to tell WHERE the leak is originating.
Over half the work in find the solution to the problem is knowing WHAT and WHERE the problem lies.
This is what a good repairman would do if you called one in. (unless their experience with this brand has led them to see this before and know exactly why it's happening.
If you do put in extensions make sure your connections are tight and the power is grounded and has adequate size wire.
This is easy to do and may save you a ton of money. You may even be able to find out what's going on just by moving it out as far as you can so you can see what's happening.
Posted by: Jcw46 at November 04, 2012 10:31 PM (SP4jC)
If the water leak is only when the machine is running you can eliminate the connection to the hot water line. Your drain line should be at the back so you should only see it leak out under the machine. If the machine is 10 years old the best solution is likely just buying a new one and saving the $100 plumbers call to tell you that's the solution.

OK, so you might have some time to play with it. I would guess the hose connections at the dishwasher end -- which are pretty easy to redo.
I personally like to pull all the dishwasher hoses and its power cord into the undersink cabinet to start. There's usually about 4' of it stashed behind the dishwasher. That'll tell you if pulling the dishwasher out is going to be really bad. If you've got plenty to slide the dishwasher forward, then open the door and unscrew the screws holding it into the cabinet (especially the upward-facing one right in front of the door opening). Slowly pull forward as the hoses and cable slide back out of the undersink cabinet.....
If you're really, really, really lucky, you can then run a short cycle and just watch where it leaks.

Wheatie was sayng that it seemed to come from further back, and mentioned a couple of towels worth of water, but it only happened when it was running -- that sort of says drain hose. Usual point of failure is where it attaches to the unit, 'cause they use cheezy clamps, but there is an alternative explanation -- clogged internal air gap.

well the fastest thing you can do is take the lower front off the dishwasher. usually about 4 screws. that will allow you to see under the dishwasher. You will be able to see the hose and water line connections on the dishwasher end. The thing to check for is those lines leaking, OR the tank seal where the motor attaches to the tank, OR for any cracks in the tank around the motor, both which I have seen happen on older plastic tank washers. If you take the lower front off and run the dishwasher you should be able to see any leaks with a flashlight.
The other thing is to make sure the float isn't stuck. That part is inside the dishwasher when you open the door. usually on the floor of the tank, and looks like a little R2D2 thingy. It moves up and down. Make sure it moves freely, because if it gets stuck near the bottom of its travel the water level goes higher and can leak out of the door seal. Sometimes they can get sticky.

Have you run it while watching underneath? That may tell you enough.
If you have solid copper lines you should get that replaced with a braided line anyway. Ditto all the other lines.
By making all the connections after in place, they won't have a lot of give and drain/water/power lines can chafe or loosen causing leakage at connections or holes and should be replaced.
As to the Hobbit.
I was soooo happy to see that Peter Jackson stuck very close to the book for the movie. This is rare. It's why the movie was a success instead teh suck IMO.
If they start f'n with the Hobbit they will lose fans but they probably don't care as where can they go with the franchise from here? Most folks don't know about, don't care about and won't go to see any of the other works by Tolkien.
So as long as they can suck folks in to 1-3 movies, they're golden.
Cynical but then that's Hollywood.
I think that the Matrix suffered from the last two being overblown with poor casting, poor performances and too much PC.
they still made enough money so one of them got a sex change.

Wow. You guys are great.
This is why I love the Horde!
Okay...so I can get real intimate with the thing, and wriggle it out from it's cubby.
Use tools and shit too.
Possibly making it worse, and even pull a muscle in my back again.
Or I can keep stuffing towels up underneath it whenever I run a load of dishes...until the hubby says:
"Honey, why are stuffing towels under the dishwasher?"
At which point, I will pass on all this extremely valuable information on how 'he' can fix it.
And he will say..."Damn, sounds like we should get a new dishwasher".
Thank God this race is about over, and Romney/Ryan doesn't need anymore money.

I think it was a stroke of genius to "go overbudget" on the first film and do all 3 at the same time. Didn't give the studios a chance to fuck with it and didn't give them a chance to cancel the sequels.

I'm ashamed of myself for not being first at that.
Remember kiddies when exploring for answers to a mechanical/electrical appliance problem;
Make. Model. Year built. voltage. amperage. capacity
It helps your search for answers and keeps the parts man from wanting to leap over the counter and choke the living sh!t out of you.

1106 What brand and model is the dishwasher?
It's a GE Profile.
It's been a good one, too.
And still runs fine.
But now that I hate GE....because of Jeff Immelt...I wonder what kind of new one would be good.
I haven't been paying attention to dishwashers, since we bought this one.
What kind of dishwashers are good these days?

I believe your analysis is correct. '06 and '08 were wake-up calls to the GOP, a reminder that if we wanted politicians to spend money like a bunch of jackasses we'd just let the jackasses do it for a while. Hopefully they got the message, they're certainly talking a better show. I think this election is going to go more along the lines of 2010.

Truthfully they are all pretty much made by three manufacturers (Whirlpool, GE and LG) and re-branded by the rest. The list is here:

Ask your friends. Ask a repairman if you know one. Ask an appliance parts man if you know one. (they know ALL the dirty little secrets.)
Buy one that fits, that's cheap and can be self installed. Invest in good hoses/connections and that can allow easing the unit out for inspection.
Get one that installation is free. (if a reputable company with guarantee)

If you are mechanical enough to find the faulty part and replace it this is good advice. If not most appliances are disposable. The cost of a service call (assuming you don't pay for an insurance plan) will be close to half the cost of a new appliance. So Just coughing p for a new one is generally the most cost effective option. Installation is often free or at least subsidized with a new one and a service call is like a home visit from a Doc in price.

If they don't manage some degree of drawback from this fiscal and foreign policy cliff, I will work night and day to see a 3rd party developed.
I personally think a 3rd party is a suicide pact but if the parties that exist can't/won't face reality and get the job done, then they have to go. (someone said that recently)
The only response in that case is for them to find themselves marginalized and in time ignored.

I'm with you but for now him and boner are all we've got. so we'll have to somehow make them realize the error of their ways.
One way will be Romney getting elected. This SHOULD make them rethink their actions and attitude.
Of course Republicans/politicians tend to see results from a different viewpoint so they might not take the hint.
this is why, Sarah Palin, the moron horde et al will have to work even harder after the election to make sure that they realize they are on borrowed time and don't slip back into their old ways.
It needs to be brought home to them that we will not put up with anymore compromise on the security, liberty and financial stability of the US for any reasons of go along to get along or reaching across the aisle.

1154I would just take the lower toe kick panel off the dishwasher and look under it with a flashlight while its running, you can see everything that way without having to move the dishwasher. Like I said also, check the float, if its stuck down the water level will get too high and leak out the door seal. Its either going to be something stupid like the connections or the float, or something a little more serious like the motor seal, or a cracked tank by the motor.

Thanks, Berserker.
Sounds doable.

Problem is, "caring for the poor" is never described in the Scriptures as government confiscation of wages and property. It is never described as redistribution of wealth by government means. It is never described as anything other than a personal act done out of love for God and love for your neighbor.
I would postulate that the handing over of one's personal responsibility to care for the poor and the sick over to a government bureaucrat is the exact opposite of what Jesus commands. Jesus never once mention government agencies when referring to Christian compassion.
Nevermind the fact that the government doesn't do a very good job at it. In fact I could make a good argument for the case that government creates more poverty than it alleviates.

There is generally 1 place to early vote in town and many places to vote on election day. That is why the lines are shorter. Idiots.
