I figure the ONT is going to be preempted and stomped on like crazy tonight but consider it your election night meet-up point, staging area for attacks as well as meta-analysis.
And should the lines break and we be overrun, the ONT will also be our rallying point. If you see 'Alamo' appear on the front page, make your way here, sock up, and hold the margins. There's a reason we've been stockpiling ampersands all these months. Also everyone take one of the red capsules, it'll be explained later.
UPDATE:
So What Would an Ohio Recount Look Like?
So what happens with the provisional ballots? According to Ohio law, the eighty-eight counties in the state are not even allowed to start counting the provisional ballots for ten days. In the meantime, those who cast provisional ballots are allowed to submit evidence that their votes should count-they can, for example, show forms of identification that they might not have brought with them to the polls on November 6th.
Bottom line is that if Ohio goes into extra innings, we probably won't know who is president until December. And that's if all the rules are followed and there aren't any court injunctions.
The Utter Madness of the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact
The Electoral College has its flaws but pretty much any other system has its own even greater flawa. In particular any popular vote-based system means that fraud and recount aren't short-circuited at the state-level. So crazy levels of cheating in Detroit, Cleveland, and Chicago could possibly tilt the entire national election and there's nothing the other 47 states could do about it.
The National Popular Vote idea . . . is not a national popular vote. It is, in fact, just a form of the Electoral College system in which state election laws have gone insane. On the NPV system, states would be committing themselves in the Electoral College to preferring votes elsewhere to those cast by their own citizens.
...Moreover, NPV guarantees that states with well-thought-out election laws and well-run election systems are held hostage to those without. When, for instance, we had the problems with the Bush v. Gore election, the problems were all with the popular vote count of Florida.
German Media: America Is Declining....And Always Will Be
The fact they've been reporting this for at least 3 decades now is a pretty good sign that US's influence hasn't declined. After all do we have continuous front page articles declaring the fading away of Japan or France? Plus even if we re-elect Obama, they will still be very disappointed in us.
The 7 Worst Democratic Ads of 2012
Ads with cursing grannies, talking vaginas, and Stepford children are no way to go through a campaign.
Anti-Mormonism that is.
Romney in carbonite iphone case. Thanks to John F.

Thank you Ace, and all the Cobs for you work here. You motivated me and i am sure many others to fight up until the final whistle. To go out and volunteer rather than simply cast just one ballot. I don't know if you knew Romney would come up short, but if you did then thank you all the more. Someone has to be standing there at the Alamo, or Bataan or Thermopylae leading the troops on because every battle must be fought. Every field must be contested. No ground can be ceded to the Statists and the Takers without a struggle.
We cannot win every fight, but if we do not fight every fight, we will lose more of them. There can be no dispair (OK maybe 1 day of dispair ya sissies), just the determination to return yet again to the field, bloodied but never broken. Our country, our way of life, our freedoms, i think even the fate of our children and the world depend on there being people who will oppose the gnawing away of our liberties in the land of the free.
And you Sir are a smoking-hot pointy-elbowed cleavage-oozing stompy-booted cheerleader in this game that never ends. And i'd do ya.

That's the real problem here. We seem to pick governors well and school boards and D.A.s Then we pick this king of D.C.!
But Congress will never take responsibility back, will they?
So now we are a banana republic.

SO here's a question:
Was Romney's uber-confidence before the election real or just political acting?
If today really was D+6 I can see him genuinely believing he had this in the bag....he'd be assuming a much better D/R split than that!
Still, take comfort people. Obama won pretty narrowly in the end (1% or so in FL, VA, OH) and he needed to repeat the greatest Democratic turnout ever to manage it. Rumours of the death of the GOP are greatly exaggerated.

so.... i have 2 new thoughts
1) when the dems nominate an african american they will have about 90% A-A turnout and therefore win
2) the gop needs to figure out how to win more than 25% of latinos or we are screwed.

I think him going into those blue states were him realizing OH was going to be sketchy at best, so he was trying to find another way to 270. I have no clue why he practically abandoned FL this last week or so, though.

Pennsylvania was supposed to be close. Obviously, the GOP poll watchers were kicked out in Philadelphia long enough for Team Obama to ensure 100% turnout breaking 99% for Obama.

It's not been a good day. I woke up to realize that I had been redistricted out of Republican Frank Wolf's district (Va-10) into Democrat Gerry Connolly's (Va-11). It was all downhill from there.
And it looks like there are no consolation prizes: Princess Lieawatha won. Akin and Mourdock lost, as did Allen in my state. And it appears that sodomitic pseudogamy has been voted into law in a couple of states.
Historians may point to this night as the beginning of the end of the American civilization.
Excuse me, my CO mask awaits. (I keed, I keed.)

For one thing, the trend of companies succeeding or failing not on their own merits, but rather by how well-connected they are politically.....will only accelerate. Corzine has shown how you can rip off customers for $1.2B and just walk away. Investing in the stock market is playing in a rigged casino.
The US government is now committed to $1T deficits as far as the eye can see, which they will finance by having the Fed monetize their debt -- since other countries would have to be stupid to buy treasuries themselves, and the stupid ones are broke. You can expect inflation.
Anyone counting on their pension having a return AT ALL, or even getting their investment back, needs to start doing a re-think. Look for private pensions to be run into the ground.....or, if solvent, nationalized in order to prop up government pensions.
Look for the black market and underground economy to grow -- you can't sustain yourself while paying the level of taxes demanded and jumping through all the costly hoops.

The coalition of the mobs wanting free shit and the progressive self appointed elites who think they are the ones to distribute it to them won.
The people who they TAKE the money from to get the free shit? Lost.
Parasites win!
I guess our only recourse is to make sure we don't have any assets for them take. Going Galt.

Or
Underground economy
it's what sustained the Russian people for 40 years after wwii.
it's who you know that will count. you gather contacts like rare coins or baseball cards and rent them, trade them or sell them.
Services will be big. it's easier to hide than physical goods. still selling some personal property can be lucrative just tricky.
the tax man will become more obtrusive. (you didn't think they're hiring 16,000 more agents to keep track of your health care, did you?)
don't keep much in the bank. New laws now allow them to track EVERY transaction you make. In real time if they like. and confiscate the funds on a moments notice. electronically.

The GOP should have taken a strong stand on immigration long ago. Instead, we had years of compassionate conservatism in the immigration department that have shifted the demographics of this country to the left. You can't win Latinos because they aren't conservative-minded. We heard for years about how Latinos had great family values from the likes of Bush, but the illegitimacy and teenage pregnancy rates of Hispanics should disavow anyone of this notion. They prefer Big Government policies so, unless you put the Republican efforts to win elections ahead of actual conservative policies, then you won't win them over. Just accept that pandering to Hispanics has been an electoral disaster: you didn't win the Hispanic vote and you alienated many white voters in the process.

Figuring out how to condense company expenses. My cousin-in-law is very happy with Obama's victory tonight; she won't be when she sees the hit to our paychecks in the next couple of months, nor when I inform her that we are downsizing and everyone is going to have to make do with less. (Malaise speech? Yeah, I have no choice anymore.)
I had entertained thoughts of selling my house and moving to the countryside, and was in the process of securing a loan for some renovations to that end. I am cancelling the loan tomorrow. >.> I am staying put, and staying out of debt.
I am also cancelling all of our ordinary yearly plans for equipment and vehicle trades, because the tax credit for vehicle/equipment purchases is indeed going away. I have no reason now to purchase trucks and skidsteers, I'll make do with what I have - and, incidentally, so will Detroit and Illinois, as I am relatively certain that I am not the only business owner looking to scrimp and avoid spending.
I am also strictly forgoing plans I had for breaking into a new line of construction work. Aside from lacking capital, I cannot deal with the healthcare fees that Obamacare mandate for companies over fifty.
In short, I am a microcosm of what is going to happen all across the country in coming months. It isn't pretty or pleasant, and it will cause a lot of howling by the uneducated proletariat who even now jockey for a place at the altar of the Traitor.
Dark times indeed. And, I asked earlier but likely missed the answer, when does Israel attack? Soon, I would assume.

I don't think our current neoconservative batch of leaders quite understands that Anglo-American conservatism is a different creature than conservatism in most other countries. In m,ost of Latin America, the government conservatives tend to emphasis their ability to run government more efficiently than liberals rather than necessarily getting government out of people's hair (i.e. valuing liberty). That's the kind of corporate conservatism is what we are drifting toward.

The Democrats are winning because they are playing the long game of changing society, and by doing so, they win elections by default.
They control our children through the colleges and public schools. They control the media and the news.
We must play the long game. As conservatives, we are disinclined to pro-actively change society, but we must do so now.
Protect by tooth and nail anything the left has not destroyed. Destroy what they have. We must take over and institute change gradually. It will get better before it gets worse.

Pistol, either a 1911 in .45 ACP, a Glock, or a Smith and Wesson .357 revolver.>>
All good choices but in a bind anything that spits lead reliably is the answer. Makarov 9mm pistol or AK 47* are worldwide favorites for their cheap delivery. Shotguns if your cash strapped any used pump.

Nope. I've been saying it all night. I just pray to Jesus that we have a candidate who will contest. McCain was alerted to voter fraud in OH and he turned a blind eye to it refused to contest the result. I pray Mitt will be Gandalf and have the guts to say to O "You shall not pass!"
Too much voter fraud and rumors of voter fraud across the country this last week. We had the enthusiasm and ever election after '08 has gone Republican ( the '09 governors' races, the '10 midterms, the '11 Walker recall). I don't buy this even a little bit. O stole this.

Example: My Comcast homepage has this headline: "Obama power to re-election despite weak economy."
That is the first time in forever that any headline about Obama and the economy has used a negative word with his---"weak."
No matter how bad the economic numbers were, my homepage spotlighted the silver lining.
I am distressed that even CO went blue---of course almost all the counties are red. CO has a lot of prog whites from CA.
However, if you look at vote totals in all the major battleground states, you'll see that Mitt lost by a whisker, with VA and Fla still out.
What other GOP candidate, with a complicit media, could have done that.
And FWIW, I sadly looked at a youtube of MSNBC telling me that 28% of Obama voters in an exit poll said his response to the storm was a major factor in voting for him with several more saying it was somewhat important.
Actually, I think such voters had to have been leaning Obama anyway, but what that storm did was take Mitt's surge and big crowds off the nightly news for 5 days, something the media loved, I suppose.
Face it, the enemy is the media.
We have to attack them and we need to choose 3 targets: the first, may I suggest, is CBS, the second is Steve Kroft of CBS, and the third, of course, is NBC and Brian Williams.

This America you keep talking about is just a memory you have. The name of the country may be the same but it is not the same country. The America you're talking about is gone. The sad thing is, we are the only ones that even remember it fondly. The people of the country now want nothing to do with the America of the past, they despise it. You got to learn to wrap your head around that, wishing for the past isn't any healthier then being bitter about the future. We are at the point where our success and happiness is for ourselves and family. It's the new reality.

This will get lost in the noise of tonight's chaos but I feel I have to post something, if only a scream in the night.
I've been lurking here since before the 2008 elections. The insanity of this place has been one of the few things that have kept my spirits up. Thank you to so many Morons that have made me laugh over the past 4 years.
Tonight has utterly destroyed my last hope of survival for this experiment called "America".
I'm totally drunk off my ass in the true moron way and find it hard to see the monitor through the tears as I type this, as I watched America die tonight.
I turn 55 in few weeks, divorced (2 grown kids) and weep for what lies ahead of them.
I went "Galt" back around 2005. Now it's time for me to simply vanish off the grid and let the chips fall as they may.
I soon as sober up in the next day or two, I will be getting rid of every piece of shit that I own that isn't vital to my survival or a keepsake that can't be parted with.
I will be putting my house on the market after that and taking whatever I can get for it.
Step two will be vanishing into the vastness of this country. I simply won't be a target for the onslaught of Government that is coming. I'll die a Free Man on my own terms before I'll become a slave to The State.
Dad was an Okie and I spent a quite a few of my younger years there. The state still has a tug at my heart. As Commander John Koenig once said "Maybe there".
Fuck Obama. Fuck Communists/Socialists/Marxists and whatever/whoever else seeks to overthrow the Constitutional Republic that we call The United States of America.
As Ben Franklin said "....if you can keep it". As tonight has shown, we've lost that ability. History has shown that ALL Republics/Democracies fall. I just never thought I'd live to see it happen.
We have become a pre-Civil War nation. We have become divided in a way that simply cannot be reconciled through normal political means. There are too many that will happily suck this nation dry, oblivious to the disaster that lurks ahead. We are awash is low-information voters and Useful Idiots. Sadly their votes count as much as those that take the time to become informed and educated about the true nature of this Nation and the World we live in. Tonight has shown that between them, and the complicit Mainstream Media, we are outnumbered.
As I'm fond of saying, I'm an Agnostic on a good day and an an Atheist on bad ones, but from the bottom of my heart, may God bless and protect those love this country.
Damn. All out of booze and way beyond safe to go out and get more. What am I supposed to do with the pudding I've stashed in the fridge?

Exactly. I don't give a shit if it's me against entire nation.
Half the country proved themselves to be greedy, small-minded morons who can't think ahead more than three seconds.
They'll be squealing like stuck pigs in about two years. Libertarians said it's better for us to experience the crash all at once than hire Romney to just slow it down.
Now we get to find out what it's like to have that crash. And all the Obama voters are in the same boat as the rest of us, so don't even bother to listen to their gloating.
They're basically people who've just swallowed arsenic and are going, "Whattaya think of that, eh, asshole?"
Well... I think, "Fine. Enjoy it."

Semi-serious: Thinking about packing up and leaving the Dakota Territory and moving to Texas. "But Al" I hear you say - "doesn't North Dakota have a wonderful, booming economy?" To which I reply "Yes, yes it does - for now. At least until the Obama weasels in the EPA create a regulation with the force of law that prevents fracking and anything else that is allowing North Dakota to pump oil out of the ground like there's no tomorrow." What they can't do by law, they'll do by fiat - and as we've seen, the Congress is gutless when it comes to standing up to an out-of-control Executive branch.
The big Q: Can anyone of the Moron Horde point out any flaw(s) in my current line of reasoning? Please?

Especially considering as well the threats to this state via sequestration and military cuts in general, which will destroy this economy not only for the military jobs factor, but also for the shipyards factor?

Hume on Fox said that many liberals as we would define them by virtue of their position on politics, were going around calling themselves moderates, not because they were lying, but because they don't actually think their politics are "liberal." That's how far to the left we've moved, that our definitions are screwed up, so pollsters might have mistook the meaning of "moderate."

America's system is biased toward two parties; since the GOP is the white male party, and since everyone else hates us, the GOP can't be that alternative. But an anti-Obama party not explicitly conservative has hope.
We'll still be socialist, but at least we won't be a tyranny.
I assume we'll still have a democracy by then; there "is much ruin in a nation", and it's probably safest to assume incomplete ruin in the next four years.

Really?
Want some scary analysis you won't hear as it's not politically correct?
'80 Ronald Reagan just lost tonight. Mitt Romney's performance among non-minority voters was roughly equivalent to Reagan's in 1980. The difference between an epic landslide of 46 states going red and getting beat tonight is that the country is 15% more minority, whose vote propensity maps all too well to welfare transfer payments provided by said party. Not to mention Romney was getting near pitch perfect at the end; think about it, Reagan himself would have lost in this electorate.
Chew on that.
It's a Brave New World...
Philip Klein wrote: "Romney has won white voters by the same 20-point margin, 59 percent to 39 percent. But the big difference is that in 1980, whites were 88 percent of the electorate, whereas in this election, they were just 73 percent." (http://tinyurl.com/alkhhwo)

Yup. But what is in our (any of our) power?
Romney did as best he could, with a GREAT disadvantage.

Right now I'm starting to think that the democratic process is a failed experiment. I get it, aye. What can be done? The electorate... doesn't care.
We need to understand this. Barack Obama is but a symptom of the problem. The country is ill and divided against itself. Even if Obama had been defeated, the lazy, apathetic, scornful half of the country that put him in power in the first place would still be there.
Several posters have correctly identified the problem, that is, approximately one out of two people in the United States are American in name only, but the solution still eludes us. Most of the posters here, God bless them all, are more generous of spirit than I, I regret to say. They say that we must work to change the country, play long ball.
I do not believe that we can coexist anymore, and that a schism must occur. When and how, I don't know, but there are indeed two Americas, and we must part ways before too much longer. Give them the Northeast and California/Nevada/New Mexico, keep Oregon and the Southeast so we have open water access on both sides of the continent, and split the damn nation in twain, we keep half, they keep half, and we bid one another adieu. It's long done in spirit, time to catch up with the zeitgeist.

I think the internals of the Romney pollsters told him he was going to win. They had the democratic vote too low.
The guy I saw last night in NH thought he was going to win and I knew it when I saw his wife. She was beaming, as if she'd been given good news.
I think the excursions into other states were because they had the money to spend and they had mined as many votes as they thought they could get in the battlegrounds and when I heard Marco Rubio interviewed by Hannity last night, he was beaming. He said he believed FLA would be called for Romney early, whereas all year he admonished us to know that FLA was always razor close. Last night, he said, Romney by 3.
This was clearly a year in which the Dem turnout was more than the GOP expected. However, I'd like to see the turnout of young voters, which can't possibly be as high as 4 years ago so I'd like to see where Obama made that up. I'll bet it's with some seniors who "get stuff." I know some.

If you've lived off the government your whole life, the last four years weren't any worse than the previous eight. Shit, if your government money is in the form of working for the government, the last four years were fucking awesome for you (on average; individual Morons may have other experiences but there's a reason DC never had a housing bust and the average household income there skyrocketed...).

First of all, Truck Monkey, I hope you don't mind I'm totally stealing "Benghaziquiddick."
Second, there's no, and I mean N-to-the-muthafuckkin-O way there wasn't some cheating going on. Obama's people have the motivation and the willingness to pull that type of shit. Just one example: the shit stains on twitter apparently bragging about how they voted two or three times. I'm hoping that's some type of hoax or sick sense of humor on their part.
So I'm not pulling the trigger on the gun in my mouth yet (though I AM cursing a whole helluva lot). I'll wait until the morning, when every last vote is counted, then recounted (please please please). Though if Romney does "the right thing" and concedes, I'll have to travel to Massachusetts, punch him right in the fleshy sac where his balls used to be, then eat lead, because the thought of this beautiful, amazing country simply enjoying its decline instead of trying to be great by living up to our founding, core principles sickens me.
Seriously, fucking enough. Enough with republicans/cons always playing nice while the other side has free reign to latch onto "but thaaaat's noooooot faaaaaaiiiiir!!!! NAZIS!!!1eleventy!" like rabid pitbulls. Obviously about half the country doesn't give a teeny flying squirrel shit about who's more gentlemanly and knowledgeable, just who can *compassionately funnel them the free shit they deserve*, so no loss there to show some cojones.
Romney better fight this fucker to the bitter end, if he truly cares about the country. TFG and his minions DO NOT in any way, shape, or form deserve to a) win, b) gloat. No "peaceful transition of power" until we know the war was won fairly.
Well, that's my rant contribution. At least I have you guys to keep me entertained. that should hold off the wrist-slitting for, oh, a year or two

One of the things we haven't mentioned is the fact we'll be seeing a lot more shari-like laws passed now.

WASHINGTON, DC – House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) issued the following statement regarding the results of the 2012 presidential election:
“The American people re-elected the president, and re-elected our majority in the House.
If there is a mandate, it is a mandate for both parties to find common ground and take steps together to help our economy grow and create jobs, which is critical to solving our debt.
I offer sincere congratulations to President and Mrs. Obama and to Vice President and Dr. Biden. I wish Mitt, Ann, Paul, Janna and their families well, and thank them for having carried the banner of our party and our principles with strength, grace, and courage.”
Why, I'm shocked? Boehner wanting to compromise?

It doesn't add up to me. I know what I saw on the ground in central and SE Virginia, and that was a huge enthusiasm difference from 08 to 12. Yet Romney does, so far, 60,000 votes WORSE than McCain? Especially considering as well the threats to this state via sequestration and military cuts in general, which will destroy this economy not only for the military jobs factor, but also for the shipyards factor?
None of this makes sense to me.
Posted by: VAgirl at November 07, 2012 12:54 AM (U9x6W)
Those were the numbers from about an hour ago, and I bet in the end, Romney's numbers are about the same as McCain's were in 08, but Obama's are down 150K. It doesn't make any sense when you see that Romney ran big down in coal country and the suburbs, but the rural areas seem to be where he dropped the ball.

Live Free . . . Or Die

As disappointing for me as Mitt losing New Hampshire has been the down-ticket races in the Granite State. In 2010, Republicans won both House seats, the Senate seat, three-quarters of State Reps, 80 percent of State Senate seats, and 100 percent of the Executive Council. Two years later, Democrats have taken the governorship and may well take both House seats, and the vote tallies theyÂ’re racking up in hardcore plaid-clad North Country towns far from the Massachusetts border are remarkable.
A lot of the telly chatter is about how Republicans don’t get the shifting demographics: America is becoming more of a “brown country,” as Kirsten Powers put it on Fox. But New Hampshire is overwhelmingly white — and the GOP still blew it. The fact is a lot of pasty, Caucasian, non-immigrant Americans have also “shifted,” and are very comfortable with Big Government, entitlements, micro-regulation, Obamacare and all the rest — and not much concerned with how or if it’s paid for.
If this is the way America wants to go off the cliff, so be it. But I wish we’d at least had a Big Picture election. The motto of the British SAS is “Who dares wins.” The Republicans chose a different path. A play-it-safe don’t-frighten-the-horses strategy may have had a certain logic, but it’s unworthy of the times.

So those reports of electronic machine changing the Romney votes to O votes (but never the other way around) were false? The stories and pictures of NBPP intimidating voters in Philly were made up? The Somalis being bussed in by Dems? The Chicagoans being bussed into IA b/c there's no voter id there? Romney winning indies by double-digits or being up 51% in Gallup. All fake, huh?

He still does not have the required 3/4 of the states for that, I'm pretty sure.
That won't stop him, though. After he packs the Court, anything he wants to do will be "constitutional".

I was just talking to people at work yesterday and I told them that as a veteran the single thing I'm most furious with GW about is that he made no real effort to fix the problems with Military Voting. It's the Military for Christ's sake. As commander in cheif order teh XO of every unit to sit down in a room with all their troops with a ballot for 30 minutes each election. You can't make them fill a ballot out, but by God as the Commander-and-Chief you can ensure they have access to one.
Posted by: Jaylord at November 06, 2012 09:28 PM (Y6qC4)

Tell you what you get me a green card and i will go happily. No pretense at a bill of rights, but a lot of resources and a genuine love for free enterprise this nation killed tonight. Get me a green card and in a New york Chris Christie style New jersey minute.
Barack obama just won reelection based on a hurricane, a blowjob from the MSM, and the American people playing Harlan roulette.
I am not wanting to go along for the ride, there are NO leaders in this nation willing to say "fuck you DC we'll leave."
Freedom dies when you keep caving, better to go to a nation never having made a pretense of having had guaranteed liberty.
We just "reelected" a guy who threw the 1st amendment under the bus. I hate evidently 50.2% of voters with a burning violent rage.

But now I don't believe there will be.
There will be no taking back America. Socialism has the country by the throat. Too many people have made the devil's bargain and traded their freedom for petty entitlements.
So long as they get their government-bestowed baubles for today, they are happy for government to rule their lives and ruin their and America's future.
O and co went micro in this campaign, targeting people with microsecond-long attention spans and memories going back no further than last week. That worked for the Democrats. It will continue to work, because their "target market", the coming generation--schooled by leftists from cradle through college--is superficial, vapid, greedy, and cannot follow an argument more than three sentences long.
America has changed forever. The rot started in 2008 and now it has free reign, with the full and active consent of American voters.
America was the hope of the world, once.
The Vandals and the jackals are already circling. Now, aided by O's kneecapping of the military, they will start closing for the kill.
And all those who love freedom and have looked to America to preserve it and extend it had better fend for themselves as best they can. Obama does not want America to be a great power. He never understood what that power has meant to the free world. He never understood how that power was achieved or maintained.
So now, little by little, the world will fall to the savage, the cruel, the liars and the sadists.
Still, we tried.

I'm done with national politics. From now on I'll only work within my state, convincing my government to reassert its power and eventually kick out the federal government and seize power over ourselves again. Sydney / Melbourne / Brisbane may as well be Europe but Perth is a 6 hour flight away and while they are part of the same country, the state of Western Australia is a frontier and anyone with skills who is willing to work hard can live like free men and women. I loved the place when I was there on business.

Syd/Mel/Bne aren't as bad as Europe. The living's easy, it's relatively quiet and safe. Overall it's not a hard right but it's not moonbat left either. There's plenty of places outside the 3 big capitals that are ok, if cities aren't desirable. Perth is a good choice though and not as hot as north Queensland and northern territory. The laws re rifles aren't as easy as the US, but they aren't banned, either.

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years.”

Australia's got a lot of things going for it and the US has a lot of things going for it. There is definitely an overlap in many regards. The US has greater opportunities and freedoms compared to Australia. But, I don't know how long the situation in the US can last. Australia is remote and a big island, plus it has a small population and a kind of built in cultural inertia that acts as a brake on the excess of the left. The US is in trouble. It's population is getting too big, with too many not helping. Plus it's getting seriously balkanised and has the shit border that is just going to keep acting as a turnstile. It's definitely worth fighting for and tunring things around, but, I wonder if the point of no return has been reached. Trouble is, if the US goes belly up, Australia won't be in a good position either. It'll do alright longer, but it won't be business as usual.
