Lena Dunham Is Gonna Get $3.7 Million Dollars For This Crap

In case you've never heard of her Lena Dunham is the 26 year old Obama-loving creator of HBO's Girls - and pretty much the embodiment of everything Morons despise. It's like someone took the worst sockpuppet caricatures from all the comments and distilled them into one supremely annoying life form.

Here's just a sample from her Wikipedia entry:

Dunham was born in New York City. Her father, Carroll Dunham, is a painter of "overtly sexualised pop art", and her mother, Laurie Simmons, is a photographer and designer who creates "disquieting domestic tableaux" with dolls. Dunham's father is Protestant, and according to Dunham, a Mayflower descendant; Dunham's mother is Jewish. She has a younger sister, Grace, who is a model and student at Brown University and who starred in Dunham's first film Tiny Furniture. As children, both Lena and Grace were babysat by photographers Sherri Zuckerman and Catherine McGann. Dunham attended Saint Ann's School in Brooklyn, New York, where she met Tiny Furniture actress and Girls co-star Jemima Kirke. She graduated from Oberlin College in 2008, where she studied creative writing.

Recently she just got a $3.7 million dollar deal from Random House for a book of her musings on sex, travel, diet and pubic fat. And this deal was based on a 66 page outline consisting of instagram pics, her diet diary, and apparently a lot of 'nauseating and cloying precociousness'.

Well Gawker got a hold of the proposal and mocked it to shreds. When Dunham's lawyer threatened to sue them, they had to pull the proposal and edit her quotes into deliciously cruel fair-use versions. It's Gawker (I know I know) but this is some beautiful schadenfreudtastic blue-on-blue action.

lenadunhamxlarge

Fully 13% of the proposal's pages are devoted to reproducing a diary Dunham kept of what she ate in 2010. And she intends to devote an as-yet-unwritten chapter to "a collection of emails that screw the pooch, jump the gun, and terrify men." Also, Dunham thinks she has the "beginnings of a FUPA (fat upper pussy area)" and wants to write about that, in her book of advice for women.

I'm pretty sure you could get 66 pages of better material by cherry-picking the better satire in the comments here during any two week period. But then we're not "rare literary talents" with all the right connections, credentials, necessary politically correct views, narcissism and lack of shame to pull this off with a straight face either.

Obama May Hide Any Fiscal Cliff Tax Hikes From the Public

Because whatever the law says the person who actually collects the taxes from each paycheck effectively determines the tax rate.

The White House has the power to temporarily protect taxpayers from middle-class tax hikes even as upper income rates rise if Congress does nothing and all of the Bush-era tax rates expire in January.
Experts and lawmakers alike agree that Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner has the power to adjust how much is withheld from paychecks for tax purposes - for all taxpayers or just for some.

And if you make over $250,000, your withholdings WILL go up:

...Experts believe Geithner could even go so far as to adjust withholding to reflect the White House's preferred policy - higher rates on the nation's top 2 percent of earners and lower rates on everyone else. In fact, Minarik said the president could even use withholding as leverage in negotiations with Republicans if it came to that, using the tables to argue he is protecting the paychecks of the middle class.

Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle acknowledge Geithner has this power, even if they hope to be productive enough to make it irrelevant.

And lest you think Obama's tax hikes are just for the rich it turns out that they've defined 'rich' down to anyone in the upper 20% i.e. making over $75,000 a year:

Affluent people are much more likely than low-income people to have health insurance, and now they will, in effect, help pay for coverage for many lower-income families. Among the most affluent fifth of households, those affected will see tax increases averaging $6,000 next year, economists estimate.

Now Everyone Can Be A Sniper

Or at least a very, very good shot by letting a computer decide when to actually fire the rifle.

TrackingPoint claims that their patent pending Intelligent Digital Tracking Scopes (tracking scopes) will allow an unskilled accurately hit long-range targets. How?

Initially, the view through a tracking scope is simply a magnified view of the target along an axis parallel to the rifle barrel. The shooter first "tags" a target by choosing a desired impact point on the target's surface. An electronic display adds a red dot that indicates the desired impact point, which remains fixed on the target as the direction of the rifle changes.

...Now the riflescope computer displaces the aiming cross-hairs so that they indicate the bullet's impact point as predicted by the firing solution. If the trigger is now squeezed, the rifle will not fire until the desired impact point and the predicted impact point are sufficiently close together. At 1000 yards (914 m), most shots should hit within the width of a single hand.

Do NOT Talk About the War Child Rape, Women Beating, Sodomy, or the Taliban

Lest your Afghan allies get all stabby and shooty.

The soon-to-be-released Army handbook is still being drafted, but a mainstream newspaper got a sneak preview and published an article that should infuriate the American taxpayers funding the never-ending war on terror. The manual is being created because someone with authority bought the theory that cultural insensitivity is driving insider attacks on U.S. troops in Afghanistan. [...]

The draft leaked to the newspaper offers a list of "taboo conversation topics" that soldiers should avoid, including "making derogatory comments about the Taliban," "advocating women's rights," "any criticism of pedophilia," "directing any criticism towards Afghans," "mentioning homosexuality and homosexual conduct" or "anything related to Islam."

I'm torn on this - on one hand you do want to pass on info on cultural topics and actions to avoid in order to keep from offending Afghanis. On the other hand the very fact that our soldiers have to be so careful to avoid remarking on the barbaric, benighted practices of a backwards people or they might be killed makes me wonder why we're even there.

How Teddy Roosevelt Saved Football

In 1905 football was also under the gun due to injuries and deaths and there was widespread talk of just banning the game. Roosevelt decided something needed to be done to save it.

On October 9, the president summoned some of the game's most powerful figures, including Walter Camp and John E. Owsley of Yale, Princeton's Arthur Hillebrand, and Harvard's William T. Reid for a closed-door meeting at the White House. "Football is on trial," he declared. Then he tasked the decision makers with changing the sport to keep it alive. After several heated rounds of meetings, in early 1906 the committee announced new rules: First downs now required 10 yards instead of five, what ultimately became a one-yard neutral zone between teams was mandated at the line of scrimmage, and yardage penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct were instituted. But the most impactful change-ironically, one that Camp himself vehemently opposed-was the introduction of the forward pass, a mainstay of modern football.

1 "Food Justice" Coming To New Jersey? More: http://politicalhat.com/?p=776 Newark Mayor, and potential New Jersey Governor, Cory Booker has finished up the “SNAP Challenge.” “SNAP,” refers to the “Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program,” i.e. food stamps/EBT cards. Indeed, this challenge has many more elected officials involved, including governors and mayors. For Cory Booker, though, it is a matter of “local and national food justice initiatives and policy that will ensure that everyone can enjoy the freedom to eat enough.” While to many this sounds innocuous, it is really anything but. The blogger zombie has laid out how “justice” has been turned into nothing more than a Progressive dogwhistle. Pictured: “Food Justice” The first corruption of the word “justice” began with the Progressive’s mutation of St. Thomas Aquinas’ call for compassion for the less fortunate, to a call for a totalitarian redistribution of society to fit the left’s utopian fantasies. From Þe Olde Wikipedia: “A socially just society is based on the principles of equality and solidarity, understands and values human rights, and recognizes the dignity of every human being. Social justice is based on the concepts of human rights and equality and involves a greater degree of economic egalitarianism through progressive taxation, income redistribution, or even property redistribution. These policies aim to achieve what developmental economists refer to as more equality of opportunity than may currently exist in some societies, and to manufacture equality of outcome in cases where incidental inequalities appear in a procedurally just system.” While everyone sharing equally sounds egalitarian and spiffy, this state of things would require, in the words of former President Ford, a “government big enough to give you everything you need, is a government big enough to take away everything that you have.” When you are dependent on the state for food, it is the state that determines what you can and can not eat, to the point where one Chigaco school actually limited some lunches to less than 200 Calories! And the only choice is to eat what you are given or starve. That then is the crux of what the Progressive’s mean by “justice”: The destruction of prosperity and an “equal” rationing of anything and everything (though some are some who are more “equal” than others…). Perhaps the description of this “justice” can best be summed up from left wing lunatic John Rawls: “Rawls claims that the parties in the original position would adopt two such principles, which would then govern the assignment of rights and duties and regulate the distribution of social and economic advantages across society. The difference principle permits inequalities in the distribution of goods only if those inequalities benefit the worst-off members of society. Rawls believes that this principle would be a rational choice for the representatives in the original position for the following reason: Each member of society has an equal claim on their society’s goods. Natural attributes should not affect this claim, so the basic right of any individual, before further considerations are taken into account, must be to an equal share in material wealth. What, then, could justify unequal distribution? Rawls argues that inequality is acceptable only if it is to the advantage of those who are worst-off.” This ideology assumes many fallacies. The first of which is that it assumes that it is unjust for a person to have more than another. Just as long as the person who has more did not gain it by taking it from a unwilling person without, then there is no injustice; for wealth is not a zero sum game and one becoming rich does not necessitate taking away from others. To the contrary, those who are responsible for the creation of wealth create the conditions and money that allows the poor to rise above their previous station. To that end, the free-market economy, which has seen the greatest and broadest creation of prosperity the world has ever seen, is actually just, even under Rawl’s nonsensical philosophy. It’s been posted before, but it bears repeating: Baroness Margaret Thatcher said it best: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rv5t6rC6yvg Thus, the entire “food justice” initiative is based on the assumption that it is more “just” to ration breadcrumbs, than for an entrepreneur to grow more wheat and make more bread. Perhaps the most frightening thing is the Mayor Booker may very well become New Jersey Governor, or barring that, Senator. From there he could reach for the Presidency. With a demeanor that is less acerbic than that of President Obama, crypto-Progressive Cory Booker can truly force his unjust “justice” upon a trembling and starving nation.

The rancid bitch has managed to turn something sexy into something gross.

The pubic bone has a layer of adipose tissue covering it that grows during puberty. It is what is partly responsible for the very sexy look of a woman's pelvis (think bikini photos). it also makes intercourse more comfortable.

Lena is unaware of this because her sexuality is political, not physical and emotional.

That's why she is undoubtedly an awful lay, and will die alone.

94 There are multiple technology trends pointing to the era of insta-snipers. There's this trackingpoint tech, there are improved laser wind measurement devices for assisted aiming, and there's DARPA R&D on guided bullets. All this points to an near-future era of mass sniperization. I'm not sure what all will change in warfare. But I think this is kind of a big deal when anybody off the street can make trained sniper distance shots. This has been an elite skill that took constant training to learn and maintain. It's certainly doable where I live. The weather is perfect almost all the time. I have tents and can shower at work. Laundromats are everywhere. I'm doing it.

182 One time, I grossed almost $17,000 on a book that over four thousand people actually bought. (That's several multiples of the average major-publisher book's total sales, in case you don't know.)

Another time, I got sent to an article at Slate or at some other place that I can't tell isn't Slate, and I thought it was an amazing right-on down-to-the-last-adjective then-burn-the-ashes parody of people I know who are people like Lena Dunham. And then of course I noticed that her name was on it, and it wasn't a joke.

So...

My current working theory is that at the moment of my death, everything that ever ruined one of my previous days will be compressed into a single annoying event that lasts forever.

Turn it into an abode.  Look at what used to be known as "shotgun" houses for workable floor plans.  You can bolt and stack them like legos, torch doorways and window openings.

I recognized after disabusing my early-70s dad of certain notions regarding policies and politicians that I am now in the position of guiding the man who helped guide me out of libtard confusion. I listen to myself, and I'm having difficulty not feeling like some Soviet zampolit reinforcing proper thought, even though I know damn well I'm just dispelling bullshit. I hate the Left. I hate what they're forcing on us. I hate what they're forcing us to do in return. I hate how they're making me feel. All that hate hurts. It's not...well, it wasn't me, but now? Try as I may I can't let it go. I hope they all burn in Hell for it. And I hate myself for thinking it. I try to think of other things, but they just. Won't. Leave. Us. Be. They shove it in everything. There's fewer refuges now to catch a bit of a break and keep some sanity, and it's wearing on me. Thank God for my fellow Morons, my friends, and my family, enlightened folk they are (well, except my elder niece, but she's too young to know better!) Had to blow off the steam. Carry on, all.

Not when there's "toxic waste" suddenly "discovered" on it.  That's where you step in and magnanimously offer to "remediate" the "problem" if the unfortunate owners of that horrible liability sign it over to you under EPA duress

There's lawyers in cahoots with EPA who run this scam constantly to steal people's businesses and land.  I know, it happened to my dad and we lost the plating business over it.

The lawyer who took possession removed a single barrel of dirt and voila, the EPA's multi-million dollar "cleanup fines" just suddenly vanished and he's left with the business, buildings and land.

Playing fair, working hard, and believing "the system works", just makes you a fucking victim these days.

337 Anyone looking for cheap digs in NY state that has a portable or semi-portable job should look at rural upstate.

There's some pretty cheap houses up there in the little rural towns that even with insane property taxes would still be affordable.  If you buy a joint for $30k, how high could the taxes on it ever go?

If you were an author, software designer, webmaster, road warrior consultant in a different city every week, etc it can work.

> Indeed. It's certainly doable where I live. The weather is perfect almost all the time. I have tents and can shower at work. Laundromats are everywhere. I'm doing it.

Well, OK. I've actually done this, but taken to a more extreme level (think: mountain man packing all posessions, international hitchhiker, working skilled trades for cash only), but decades ago. Just post-Nam Carter Era.

Back then, there was much less Computerized Bureaucratic Red Tape.

Today, though,  let's just say you should forget about applying for jobs that require any kind of Clearance Levels for at least the next 7-10 years.

How do you list people you know for required interviews of neighbors?

How about supplying continuous street addresses that match residency records?

What about records of utility payments?

How about  any job applications that ask for personal references at a professional level.

How about your credit history?

Might not be a smart decision these days, living on the move to that extent.

Nah. The world has changed too much since I was in my 20's-30's.

You whippersnappers have it harder these days, so try to maintain a place of residence, or at least a close contact with a relative if possible, if you're actively looking for work.

If you are young, stupid as I was, and have itchy feet, though, forget all this crap, and go for it. Live it! Follow your nose, learn from your mistakes, and appreciate those things you get when the world so rarely smiles on you. Those few times will reward you all your remaining life.

404 Seriously, though... the reason the Mayan calendar ends next Friday is because the Mayan system of drawing calendars works on a 500-year cycle. Why would the Mayans of 500 years ago have even bothered drawing up the next calendar cycle, which wouldn't even start until 500 years later? They had the next 500-year cycle written down already.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and declare that the world will not end next Friday. If I'm wrong, nobody will know, anyway! And if I'm right, I get to gloat. It's another application of Pascal's Wager!

But how can you trust ordering pizza from a location that the web-portal singled out this way. So, OK, fine. I will order from Domino's, I suppose... Apparently, they have a new thing where if you want to order a Pizza, they charge you an extra $3 delivery fee which gets collected by some online company NOT THE DRIVER. Even if you order by phone you have to pay this internet company $3 to let your local Dominos Pizza shop make and drive you a pizza. There *is* a way to avoid this new "delivery fee" but that involves creating a Facebook account so that I can sign up for this new company, which I have never heard of before, so that I can get on years worth of free delivery from some outfit I STILL can't fucking figure out is now all involved in ordering a fucking pizza! "So, the delivery fee goes to the driver, right?" "No, that goes on your credit card and goes to the delivery company. You still need to tip your driver." "Uhm, I need to pay a new $3 delivery fee to a totally separate company that no one in your specific store will ever see?" "Everyone has to pay the fee M'am." "Understood. Not hungry anymore...."

523 Was in the mood for some Pizza... Hungry Howie's website says this local store is closed for 18 hrs. (Yeah, I thought it was a weirdly specific, message too!) Called them up. Not hungry anymore...." Posted by: Deety at December 13, 2012 01:11 AM (8eLGd) usually an 18 hour close, in the restaurant business, means they are closing on orders from the health department - 18 hours is how long it needs if it is being tented or equivalent level of fumigation.

They seem to be universally ignorant and awful and derivative. Mostly they mistake "worst" for unpopular, or just list the obvious cars that didn't sell well, or whatever. Not one of them so far even had an old Skoda or Trabant. I'm sorry, Fiero and Cimmaron? Not very popular but not even as bad as an old Fiat or Triumph. 590 The later corvairs that had IRS rear suspension were fine.

Even the swing axle was safe IF people followed the tire pressure recommendations and did the soft front, hard rear differential.  Reverse that by sloth/stupidity, and swing axles become wild over-steering beasts that'll kill you in a flash.

591 Okay, nothing wrong with that, Buzzsaw. I preordered a Tank Vixens comic back in the 90s, not expecting it to be as dirty as it turned out to be. I'm not a big fan of porn, myself, whether drawn or filmed. Nude photos and nude scenes in movies are cool with me, but I won't watch a shitty movie just to see a nude scene, even if it's someone I'd really like to see naked.

For example, as much as I'd like to see Rosario Dawson naked, I will not watch Alexander, because Dawson's nude scene is the only reason I'd consider watching that movie, which looks awful.

Claustrophobic? Nah.....but then, I was doing SCUBA before I got it and had many happy times while doing so. It's actually a plus that it ritualizes your sleep prep -- you become conditioned to go to sleep when the mask is on and you're settled in. The biggest negative is that it drastically limits half-asleep cuddling with your significant other.

Also a full-face user, 'cause I hiss like a teakettle all night without. I don't know about destroying teeth, but dry-mouth is real enough. A lot of 'em have humidifiers, which can help mitigate that -- but no matter how you slice it that's a pain-in-the-ass. I've sort-of given up on my humidifier for the time being.

614 Thus, my plan to get $4.67m USD by way of an advance on the deliberate application of my creative ouevre: If I have this straight, other than the fact that it forms part of a list found on one page, the subject of Ms. Dunham's upper pubis, including whether or not it appears to suffer from a distinct lack of exercise, and whether it's currently forming it's own Weight Watchers' chapter, does not appear to have exhausted any significant portion of said '66 page outline' (or "outline" ... or "66" "page" "outline"). So now, I think we all have to consider the parameters of discussion on said 'fat upper pube' region, in the sense of how many pages it would take to either exhaust the subject or the reader. Since this is already becoming significantly deeper and more involved than anything, and everything, found in Ms. Dunham's "66" "page" "outline", I am currently considering submitting it as a draft "idea for an outline", which final product, qua outline at least, can reasonably be expected to exceed that of Ms. Dunham in terms of organization, social utility (I envision my book, if not my outline, coming with it's very own Obamacare approved and papally [or Pay Pal-ly, I haven't yet decided on which] blessed heavy duty condom dispenser, currently on special order from Popeil's Pocket Products at an estimated retail price of 124.95 USD plus sales tax), tattoos only some of which move the typical observor to dry heaving, and hetero-sex appeal (which I envision achieving through regular bathing and dental hygiene, plus covering up the more prurient pre-existing tatoos ... sorry, Denise). I've already alerted my shyster and my bankster to make extra room for the royalty payments that will soon threaten to inundate my home quadrent.

You get two effects: moving air and air under pressure.

For moving air, your normal sleeping breaths tend to re-inhale some of your exhalation -- with CPAP, you're getting a fan blowing new air in all the time, so you re-inhale hardly anything. New air is more dry than exhalate.

Then you have the "under pressure" bit. If a liter of air can absorb 40cc of water by evaporation, 1.1 liters of the same air can absorb 44 cc. This is not as big a factor, being that the pressures aren't that much over the ambient air pressure -- but when it comes to oral humidity, every little bit counts.

Get a sleep test.

When you look at the list of stuff that sleep apnea contributes to, you wonder how anyone with it survives past 60......and then, you start to think that 60 was once a ripe old age. I suspect that treating apnea will probably add another decade to your potential lifespan -- and it will be a productive, alert, reasonably healthy decade.

IPA = India Pale Ale. England used to brew different beers for different purposes -- and you might have heard "a pint's a pound, the world around" and "the sun never sets on the British Empire." So they had a beer they'd brew in England for their boys in India. It had to survive shipping, so they'd boost the alcohol and hops (both being preservatives) but keep it light so you could drink it in the heat and dust. (Khaki, the color, means "dust" in some Indian language.)

Anyway, when the beer revolution started to get momentum, all these old styles got revived, and IPAs became quite popular.

656 644 Yeah being awake during the day after less than 8 hours of sleep is the best part. The machine is a pain sort of but you will come to love it for the benifits it gives.

......

I already have a sick heart, so any additional load is a very bad thing. Presently I am napping during the day just to get by. If that machine can help, I'll just have to suck it up.

Posted by: Niedermeyer's Dead Horse at December 13, 2012 03:22 AM (m4Ar0)

My gramps had congestive heart failure. I firmly believe that dipping his blood O2 every night due to apnea was driving a great deal of that.

I used to constantly wake up with sore ribs in the morning. After I got the BiPAP, the BH confessed.....she used to poke me in the side almost every night to see if I was still alive, 'cause I'd stop breathing for so long.

Posted by: Niedermeyer's Dead Horse at December 13, 2012 03:22 AM (m4Ar0) My docs said the CPAP (and the adaptation/acclimation from having Apnea) might have been the only reason I survived the virus that tried to kill my heart and knocked me down to 12-15% ejection fraction. They were shocked I walked into the hospital instead of being carried (at least when they finally figured out WTF was going on like 15 hours later). The machine takes a big load off your heart when you're sleeping, if you already have issues it might well save your life, depending on what the issues are.

Yeah, got mine about 10 years ago.....and I'm pretty solid about that because of the circumstances.

When I turned 40, one of the "presents" I gave myself was to actually find a doctor that wasn't an absolute waste of oxygen. So I asked people I knew and looked around and went through the process of finding a good one. He wouldn't take me if I didn't have a physical for a baseline......I was 40 years old and hadn't had one since I was in my teens. During this, I talked about my fatigue and sleepiness and fuzziness of thought....and got kicked over to a sleep specialist immediately who had me in a sleep study in weeks. Within a month, that was wildly improved with CPAP.

I turned 50 this year, and consider my 40th "present" one of the best I've ever received.

Yeah, there is immense amounts of obvious graft going on with this stuff -- I just ordered a mask 12/12 under insurance from Apria. I plan to order the same mask from cpap.com or cpap.net tomorrow, and another one from amazon.co.uk -- and we'll see which one has the best landed cost. It's scary what sort of market distortions are driven into the US medical field.

680 598 I think the movie that helped me decide it wasn't worth it to watch a
total piece of shit just for nudity was Sirens. It had Elle MacPherson

all sorts of naked, but it was a lousy movie apart from all that choice nudity, and
it felt overall like a waste of my time.

Been there. Hope you find you can start getting real sleep soon. Depending on diagnosis there are some good forums, like apneasupport.org and cpaptalk.com, and others. Good to do research, even though it's like any other subject - lots of chaff. cpaptalk seems to have more off-topic chatter these days.

Posted by: BignJames at December 13, 2012 04:11 AM (HtUkt) Test removing it using acetone (nail polish remover) first and then alcohol - if those fail, soap. Most of the pads use an acetone-soluble adhesive. If it's a big enough hospital you may be able to scam them into using the pediatric pads - they peel off with minimal hassle.

17: Big improvement

18: Does a bit

For me, the test machine at the sleep study ran out of headroom before the "big improvement" ended....and I had to go through some shenanigans to get a machine with more range.

695 Lena Dunham. Making even Megan McCain seem intelligent.

Posted by: J.J. Sefton at December 13, 2012 01:50 AM (XkWWK)

696 Lena Dunham. Making even Megan McCain seem intelligent. Oy, that's saying something. Though now that I think about it, my guess is that Lena is actually smarter than Megan. The problem is that, as the man says, she's has such a pretentious, nauseating, cloying precociousness that you just want to back-hand her pimp style. Megan on the other hand, is also a narcissistic, self-absorbed princess who's never worked a day in her life, but in the end is just too much because she's vapid and banal, and beyond reasoning with because she's stupid and, more importantly, doesn't have to be reasonable. Maybe you've heard her dad is a rich-ass Senator. But she is cute and has giant titties and I think I can safely say we all respect that. So, on balance, I take Megan over Lena because of her raw sexuality, whereas Lena has only the prospect of fat upper pussy fat to offer. I would suggest they be roommates except that people like that obviously do not have roommates. Having someone else around, even another dim-witted, naval-gazing twit like one of these two, would cut far too deeply into their "me" time.

699 With regard to Lena Dunham, her show Girls was promoted so heavily on cable that I thought I would watch it to see what the fuss is all about.  I don't know how I preservered through to the end of the season because it was so dreary.  Yes, it wasn't much about girls in general but a lot about skanky sex.  The show may limp for another season but I don't see it going on further than that, it's just too depressing.  It's nowhere near Sex and the City.
