Is It Time For Conservatives to Sit Down in the Snow?
At one point, according to notes taken by a participant, Mr. Boehner told the president, "I put $800 billion [in tax revenue] on the table. What do I get for that?"
"You get nothing," the president said. "I get that for free."
William Jacobson of Legal Insurrection argues that in the face of an Administration determined to run the country off the fiscal cliff and hang the blame on them perhaps it's time for Conservatives to begin acting like true dissidents:
Sharansky spend almost a decade in Soviet prison because of his activities on behalf of Jews who wanted to emigrate to Israel. Sharansky was subjected to torture and other indignities, but never lost his spirit. Sharansky notoriously refused to obey even the most mundane orders from his captors. Sharansky understood that to compromise even a little would lead to compromising a lot. Throughout his ordeal, Sharansky kept his spirits alive by reading a small book of psalms. As Sharansky was being led to the airplane that would take him from the Soviet Union to East Germany for the exchange, the Soviets confiscated his book of psalms. It would have been easy for Sharansky simply to keep walking towards the plane and freedom. But Sharansky understood that the Soviets confiscated his book of psalms not because they wanted the book, but because they wanted to show that even in this last moment, they were in control.
In front of reporters covering his departure, Sharansky sat in the snow refusing to move unless the Soviets gave him back his book of psalms. Here was this diminutive man, after 10 years in prison, on the verge of freedom, refusing to budge unless one of the world's two superpowers gave him back his book. And give him back his book of psalms they did. Sharansky proceeded to the plane, where he read Psalm 30: "I will extol thee, O Lord; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me."
...Isn't it time for conservatives and supporters of free enterprise, individual liberty, and capitalism in the Congress and elsewhere to do the political equivalent of sitting down in the snow? When told by the new administration, the majority party in Congress, and the mainstream media to walk straight, isn't it time to zig and zag?
The GOP could learn a few lessons from the Refuseniks.
Remembering the man and the legacy of viciousness against him created by the Democrats.
The vicious campaign waged against Judge Bork set a new low-possibly never exceeded-in the exhibition of unbridled leftist venom, indeed hate. Reporters combed through the Borks trash hoping to find compromising tidbits; they inspected his movie rentals, and were disgusted to find the films of John Wayne liberally represented. So hysterical was the campaign against Judge Bork that a new transitive verb entered our political vocabulary: "To Bork," scruple at nothing in order to discredit and defeat a political figure. Monsieur Guillotine gave his name to that means of execution; "progressives," those leftists haters of America who have so disfigured our national life since the 1960s, gave us the this new form of character assassination. The so-called "Lion of the Senate," Ted Kennedy, surely one of the most despicable men ever to hold high public office in the United States (yes, that's saying something), stood on the Senate floor and emitted a serious of calumnious lies designed not simply to prevent Judge Bork from being appointed to the Supreme Court but to soil his character irretrievably.
In any previous time Ted Kennedy would have been challenged to a duel for his libel.
Before lead was removed from gasoline, lead from car exhaust got into the air, was breathed in by kids, lowered their IQs, and increased crime rates (there is a very strong correlation between IQ and criminal behavior).Jessica Reyes regressed violent crime rates in all 51 state (including DC) between the years 1985 and 2002 against a number of independent variables.
She found three of significance (at the 5% level):
- average grams of lead per gallon of gasoline while arrestees were -1 to 3 years of age;
- whether or not abortion was legal; and
- beer consumption per capita.

Those Who Believe in "Soul Mates" Are 150% More Likely to End Up Divorced
Dr. Helen comments:
This makes sense as it seems to be that people who have realistic expectations of marriage and people are more likely to have better marriages. Those people who are picky and have "high standards" seem to do worse in the relationship department. Maybe a good question when trying to figure out if a date is a good marriage prospect is to ask him or her is he/she believes in soulmates. If yes, think twice, if no, see where it goes.
FWIW, I never believed in soulmates. My husband says that soulmates are made, not found. Perhaps there is some truth in that.
I've never believed in the idea of a soulmate either. There are lots of people who would make a good match in life - some fantastically great and some just pretty damn good. IMO believing in a soulmate is often an indicator of unrealistic expectations and over-idealization of people in general. And over-idealization inevitably leads to contempt. Danger Will Robinson!!

IIRC, a Federal law was passed that made movie rental history private because of Bork. After all, Our Betters didn't want their rental histories to become public.
On the soul mates thing, I've always found that to be full of crap. I mean, sure, I love it as a fic trope but in real life? Is this someone who I will not want to smother with a pillow in a month is a far better test.

Soul mates, nah.
Someone who can make you very happy in bed? Yes.
That doesn't always last, but if a man and woman can make each other happy in the sack, that can make a much happier marriage. Some people end up just "settling" for whomever is willing to go to bed with them a few times. That can make you very unhappy as the years go on.

I would rather watch spider clowns than see Les Mis. There are no words for how much I hate Les Mis no matter who does it or the format in which it is done. Even the interpretive dance of hatred cannot convey the level of my hatred.
Hugh Jackman could be bare ass naked standing next to a bare ass naked Anne Hathaway and I would refuse to see it. That's how much I hate Les Mis.

Isn't it time for conservatives and supporters of free enterprise, individual liberty, and capitalism in the Congress and elsewhere to do the political equivalent of sitting down in the snow?
Sure it is. Is it likely to happen? Erm...no. The Republicans have decided that there is no hill worth dying on. Not for the good of the Republic, of course, but for the good of themselves, and their own pampered existences. They will fall over themselves in a race to the cameras to announce that surrendering everything, and getting nothing is just the thing conservatives really stand for.
Obismal is only jetting back to town now because a 'deal' has already been decided on. A deal that gives the liberals everything they wanted...and probably a bit more, in exchange for nothing. Spending goes up. Taxes go up. Conservatives try to paint this as a winning compromise, where they'll really for reals tackle spending cuts next time around. Just you watch and see!
Gads...this country used to send men to the moon. It's sad to look back, and see how far this country has already fallen.

The Republicans should have Obama's comments demanding tax increases even though he knew revenue would go down. Back then, it was capital gains taxes. Now, it's taxes on the rich.
He told Charlie Gibson in a 2008 debate that he didn't care if revenue went down, he was only interested in "fairness".

Statement from the President and the First Lady on Kwanzaa
Michelle and I extend our warm thoughts and best wishes to all those celebrating Kwanzaa this holiday season. Today marks the first day of the week-long celebration of African-American history and culture through the seven principles of Kwanzaa: unity, self determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity, and faith.
To many, Kwanzaa serves as a time of reflection--taking lessons learned from our past and looking forward to a more promising tomorrow. It reminds us that though there is much to be thankful for we must recommit ourselves to building a country where all Americans have the opportunity to achieve their dreams.
As families across America light the Kinara today in the spirit of unity, our family extends our prayers and well wishes during this season.

Until that moment comes, we are just waiting. All of this talk of raising rates means nothing. To what end? So we can have a deficit of only 1.4 trillion next year? Or perhaps so we can slash the deficit by 2040? That'll show those rating agencies that we mean business!
This is a serious problem being faced by frivolous people. What else could one reasonably expect?

Dr. Maulana Karenga (AKA Ronald McKinley Everett) created Kwanzaa in the wake of the Watts riots, he intended for African traditions to pervade every element of the invented harvest celebration.
The vast majority of middle-class African-Americans initially viewed the holiday with tremendous suspicion, owing mostly to Karenga's unsavory reputation. Even those who supported his call for a violent overthrow of the government were troubled by his torture of two young women, which led to his imprisonment in 1971. Karenga was sentenced to one to ten years in prison on counts of felonious assault and false imprisonment. One of the victims gave testimony of how Karenga and other men tortured her and another woman. The woman described having been stripped and beaten with an electrical cord. Karenga's former wife, Brenda Lorraine Karenga, testified that she sat on the other womanÂ’s stomach while another man forced water into her mouth through a hose.
Karenga's well-documented hostility to Christianity and gender equality didn't help matters any.
So that's what's "A Charlie Brown Christmas" was missing, Linus beating Lucy with an extension cord....

I'm hearing from many that instead of Let It Burn or going third party, we work to reform or retake the GOP, especially since "we have no time" to form a third party
I figure it's faster to form a new party where you don't have an entrenched, corrupt, and well connected establishment fighting you at every turn.
When the early "favorite" is a BFF of Obama who can't be photograghed with a normal lens and is a RINO who cries when a leftist washed up rock star calls him, and whose main Dem threat is to the right of him on vital issues, this isn't a party that thinks it needs to change anything

I lived in Oakland in the '80s, and about half my friends there were the kids of the militant uncles. Nobody celebrated Kwanzaa. It got mentioned, sometimes angrily, around Christmastime. And then...it was Christmas.
Also, nobody I knew wore giant yellow clothes or leather pseudo-chains or had that Leaders Of The New School high-top-tiny-dreads hairdo that only black people on PBS still have. I think that's not a coincidence.
Kwanzaa is a tightly targeted sub-demographic thing. It's not for your randomly selected black American. They're pretty into Christian stuff. It's for...uh...you know...
...You know.

We need election reform in this country and we need it bad. We fixed the fraud in Oklahoma and now we have Conservatives running everything--Governor, both houses of the Legislature and everyone we send to DC...BECAUSE, when they can't cheat, the Dims tend to lose because people with common sense do not vote for them.

We put a cohesive set of rules/laws in place that controls the way the whole state votes. We all vote on the same machines, which are stored in various warehouses and are randomly sent to the precincts the night before an election. We have procedures in place with actual pictures as to what a valid vote looks like for recount purposes. You want more than one recount, you pay for it. We purge our voters rolls regularly--if you fail to vote in two consecutive major elections, you are taken off the rolls. It is all common sense, really, but, the main thing is the two big cities do not have their "own way of doing things" a la Chicago or NYC or SF or LA.

I see one guy frequently at the store I tend to shop at....he's about my age, but balding. He keeps his hair cut short, and it looks like he plasters what little he has left to his head with mud. Thick gooey brown mud, I'm guessing to hide the fact that he's 3/4 bald. He dyes it too. It's the funniest damn thing....you can't help but just stare at him.

olddog @ 213
I lost my Mom in 2010 to a stupid drunken jerk in an old Ford pickup that just about tore my sister's SUV apart (hurt my sister and her husband, and busted my poor old mother to pieces).
Something terrible has overtaken my oldest sister's daughter, and her life is frankly a disaster area. My sister is heartbroken. I feel terrible a lot of the time about something that I can do nothing about.
Losing your son had to be heartbreaking. I think if I lost one of my sons it would kill me. God be with you, He has not forgotten you.
And that should remind the rest of us to be a lot more damn funny here. We have standards to keep and people are depending on us to generate some big yucks.

The govt ramrod has been there for years. It won't change because the 250,0001st dollar is now taxed at 39.6% instead of 35%. That's my whole point. And if a business is paralyzed over it, the business owners are idiots. People lose money when they either panic or they freeze. I am ashamed to say that I do not remember exactly how it came to be. It just amazes me the voting messes that is allowed to exist in other states. But, it has been that way since the 80s. The 70s saw the last of our criminal Dims out of office. We actually had a Dim Governor who had been in prison in the early 70s. In the 80s, the state was flush with oil money and oil money tends to be Conservative. We did have some excellent Conservative Democrats in the 70s. I think the big money guys in charge of the state's economy said, "Clean this up. We don't want to be ashamed of the way we do things here."

The paralysis is over regime uncertainty, which is manifested in taxes -- which are comprised of several moving parts, including rates, categorizations, deductions, and even the AMT -- AND required business expenses, which would include general insurance (which is going up), medical insurance (which is going way up), compliance costs (payroll processors have NO clue how to prepare the initial payroll of 2013), employer costs (Obamacare kicks in at the 31st employee once you go past 50?!?), legal exposure (Lily Ledbetter act, anyone?), AND regulatory malfeasance, like the EPA's Cross-State rule ( http://tinyurl.com/7dtxw9u ), compounded by secondary effects (as the Cross-State rule will increase electricity costs markedly in most markets).
A single tick might seem insignificant, but when they totally cover an animal the results are very significant. Ask these guys http://tinyurl.com/cq3v7wk if it was the regulations or the taxes that did 'em in.... Surprise! It was neither -- it was just the government being capricious and fickle. Regime uncertainty.
And all of which interferes with the business' primary aim -- to please enough customers that they are showered with money, at a cost where the customers think they got the best of the deal.

I'd rather have a high sales tax and no income tax since I live close to Idaho and do most of my shopping there
So Idaho has a 6% income tax and a 6% sales tax. We have an 8.7% sales tax (in my county) and no income tax. That's a much better deal IMO. Now granted property tax is much higher on the WA side than the ID for a similar house. But even so, not having that 6% income tax still leaves me better off over all. Everyone's situation will be different of course. In general though for an evil rich white person like myself who makes a lot, doesn't spend too much, 0% income tax is a better deal.

As for payroll....for fuck's sake it's a few keystrokes to change the withholding amount. Again, if this is paralyzing companies, these companies are going to go under tax increase or no tax increase.

But rates are the same. On a 500K house the tax bill is about $6500-7000. But again, I'll take that vs. paying an income tax of 5% which for me would mean well over $10K.

Dude, I'm a CPA -- are you? I've done hundreds of returns, mostly back in the dark ages of the 80's but to some degree up through the present. This is a clusterfuck of epic proportions -- and not entirely due to the "fiscal cliff" or "Bush tax cuts" nonsense or even Obamacare, but because of the huge decoupling between things they are trying and things that have ever worked.
They are seriously proposing to have the IRS set up tax forms for policy decisions that they made after the blackletter law they crammed through in the middle of the night failed to work. That way lies madness, and -- believe me -- I know madness.

The "paralysis" from the unknown taxes about to be levied are again a major reason that capital intensive businesses (like manufacturing) are exiting the US and going to someplace in Asia or Mexico. And have been for a good long time.
We keep punishing capital formation and the government wonders why the rate of investment and capital returns don't get better. Obama and his gang of loons are an either an inumerate bunch of ninnies or a malevolent cabal of Marxist demogogues.

Companies are leaving for an overall lower cost of doing business. They're not leaving because of uncertainty. If you think the fiscal cliff is "uncertain" you've obviously never done business in a 2nd or 3rd world country. You want to see uncertainty? Open up a plant in China and within 3 months every contract you signed is renegotiated or ignored completely. And yet your premise is that companies are going there to avoid uncertainty over the fiscal cliff? Hilarious.

I don't like musicals myself, but I liked the book, with reservations. Biggest reservation was the 30 page digression into some war scene that you actually had to read because at the very very end was something crucial to the plot.
There is a story that a French person into culture was asked who was the greatest French novelist. He answered: "Alas! Victor Hugo." Anyone who has made it through his books can identify with that, the good and the bad.

For those just casually watching this, it cost a guy $120.55 for his wife to have a baby in a hospital, with a four-day stay, all in.....in 1963, when you had to write a check for it. Now it's an employee benefit, or has to be done by an emergency room under EMTALA, or is mucked with by the Feds.....and costs much, much, much more than the $908.95 2012 dollars that 1963 would have indicated.

You missed my point completely. I'll try again....
Companies are moving to Asia because Asia is a cheaper place. It has nothing to do with the uncertainty of the fiscal cliff. And you have proven my point by saying this has been going on for as long as you've been alive. And sure companies to well in Asia. But that's DESPITE a lot of uncertainty and risks. I didn't run a company, but I worked for a bank that loaned companies a lot of money. And my job was to analyze the worthiness of these loans. Looking at the books was pretty much worthless. The true value of a company was how well it was connected. Bribes, kickbacks, payoffs...that's how it works. You think 35 vs 39% taxes is a big worry? Try worrying if the son of the minster of such and such that you just paid $250K is really going to come through for you or not and on time. Will that building permit have all the ts crossed? Or will there be another $250K needed. That my friend is uncertainty. Not a fucking AMT patch.

The MSM constantly says that conservatives are heartless -- and here I am in an airplane coming down with one stuck landing gear trying to convince the guy in the next seat to get into the crash position. "Oh, no -- been through this dozens of times.....it always comes out better than they describe." "It doesn't hurt or even cost much to assume the worst, prepare, and be thankful later."

Of course the technology has improved, and costs money. But that's not the main issue. The main issue is government. First, liability. Trial lawyers and unions own the Democratic party. How often do women give birth conventionally these days? Second, Medicare. This one is complicated. Basically Medicare pays a pittance for medical care, by statute, so they have to make up for it with the paying customers. The insurance companies get a discount too, but not as good a one. If you pay for what you get with a check, the rates will be insane.

The New Iconostasis : a term from the early Soviet Era, where the portraits of the top figures in the regime were seen to replace the Orthodox icons that Russians historically venerated. The AMT and the so-called "patches" that are apparently annually applied to sooth the upper middle class are not the reason for any exodus of companies to Asia. And there are certainly uncertainties to doing business in parts of the Third World (such as Sri Lanka and Viet Nam) that are unknown in countries with a stronger notion of the Rule of Law.
But again, the Rule of Law is a part of any design margin to make a country's legal, banking and governance predictable and understandable.
The point that others seem to be trying to make is that the present Regime is making a hash of the predictability of tax law in particular. The "Fiscal Cliff" is just so much media gobbledigook that glosses over a lot of unknowns. The Senate has only passed continuing budget resolutions for three years. There has been little or no debate of Federal budgeting and practices. The Obama Regime has stymied Congress in their basic duties in oversight, and has no explanation (and won't give one) as to where all the money actually went.
The Obama Regime has been doing their level best to destroy the design margin of the function of many parts of the Federal government, and even the basic understanding of how taxes will be levied for 2012 and into 2013, still up in the air. The Commerce Department has been sitting on the business that my company is in because we import large amounts of a certain commodity from China that has been accused of "dumping" so we literally have to spend hundreds of man hours justifying to the ignorant government hacks who dreamed up this nightmare as to how we are using this commodity. Just one example.

Posted by: Mr. Moo Moo at December 26, 2012 11:44 PM (HDgX3)
Holy shit, you don't think kickbacks, bribes and payoffs are done here? You don't think you are at the mercy of some gumhead up in city hall that got the job because daddy was in the state house or a judge?
Fuck it, I would rather worry about if I was going to get a building permit from some foreign prick than hoping the US one would actually get out of the car and actually count that we had the correct number of shrubs and trees around the building so that I could get the occupancy permit.
If you think our government isn't corrupt, you need to really look into it and actually deal with the government.

On coaching the kids - was an assistant coach for 8 years of t-ball through age 12 ball on the small field. We had very supportive parents who often expressed their appreciation for our time. His last year, I was standing in the first base coaching box giving my son a high five for getting on base, then talking to him about running on a grounder, waiting for my signal if the ball was in the air, etc., etc. Head coach was clapping and telling him, "Nice hit, good job, now stay alert out there." My son was trying to look as serious as a major leaguer in a playoff game, but with a huge grin he was trying to conceal. I remember the evening breeze blowing a little dirt around and thinking "Save this moment, it does not ever get any better than this."
On Bork - less pleasant memories. I recall how stunned I was by the viciousness of Kennedy's opening attack against a decent man who happened to differ politically from him. But what really struck me was how none of the MSM (they didn't have the nickname back then) even batted an eye about the rhetoric and vitriol. Kennedy's attack was pretty much portrayed in the media as speaking truth to power; basically a tough, blunt spoken Senator's speaking up for the little guy against the malignant forces of the Reagan administration. Sounds melodramatic, but sometimes I think that was really when we began to lose a part of our country's soul.

A three inch barrel is probably too short to hit anything reliably. I could be wrong about that, but I doubt it, especially in the hands of a woman who probably does not have as strong a grip as a man typically does. Not trying to be critical of your wife at all, just the norms of such a discussion. Your wife could have a stronger grip than I do, which would make all of the above total bullshit.

Wait a sec , moo----- that's not all that's going to happen in 2013. There are all the other taxes, from phase-in of ObamaCare mandates to increases in taxes on dividends and sale of real property, to possible new energy taxes and stringent EPA standards, and higher payroll taxes (half borne by the employer) that are all effectively additional costs, that go into small businesses being paralyzed.
You also blithely assume that the market for the products and services offered by small businesses remains unaffected by all these new taxes and regs. Suppose you're a b-to-b seller, and your customers' profit margins decline? What happens to your business when they can't afford to buy your stuff in the amounts they did previously: do you thrive, remain static, or decline?

I used to hate the parents at the game when I was playing. My parents didn't know much about sports, but they went and cheered and cheered appropriately. Other parents, holy shit. They would bitch and complain because their little snowflake was on the bench towards the end of a tied game. They just didn't believe that their snowflake wasn't the next Jerry West, Jim Brown, or Johnny Bench. So the ones out there catch shit from the parents of their friends because they didn't get the game winning hit, make the last second shot, or score the game winning touchdown. They were not in the game because the ones in the game had done that all game long and all season long and not sitting in the field chasing butterflies when they were playing.

I like the 686 -- seven shot revolvers win a lot of gunfights! -- but it is a little "meaty." Great for .357, maybe just a tad more mass than is really necessary for .38. My favorite revolver is my grandfather's Model of 1899 (the other model called a Military ampersand Police). They were later known as a Model 12. It's point-and-squirt. Know how in Dick Tracy movies cops would shoot like a kid using his finger, bang-bang-bang? With this one, you can do that and get hits.
They are often available as used police or agency guns (some of them from second owner, now) and don't wear out easily. Double action pull is substantial but uniform and predictable, unlike many modern DA's. Firing target-style, all are capable of respectable groups at 50 feet.
The Colt Python is also a very good pistol, with enough mass to handle .357 but not overweight. I have not priced one for a while; they tend to be a little overpriced because they have such a sexy name and history. Worth checking; I doubt you could lose money on one.
Biggest problem with revolver frame size is the gap behind the trigger guard where the bird-finger must rest. If the butt is a little small, or the action a little snappy, a painful first impact will occur there with every shot. I can handle heavy but simple recoil, and can learn to manage the barrel rise of real big rounds, but I resent it when a pistol bites me. I can't use the Smith mod65, or the cute light little Taurus products. Small frames are often recommended for women, with the assumption of small hands, but the result is too often a nasty little piece that is unpleasant to shoot.

Morgan keeps digging that no one in America even knows who Clarkson is. I think that's his Pauline Kael moment

Snub nose good for not much really, and I'd be ashamed to be seen with one. Four to 4- 1/2" is about ideal for carrying, but yes 6-inch for a target pistol is definitely better. Beyond that, unless you're hunting deer, you're getting into the Buntline stuff and a lot of "compensator" jokes.

Nope, no one came to his defense, but back then, something like this had not happened. Supreme Court justices were somewhat routinely confirmed, but all the now usual suspects came out of the woodwork to savage him.
He didn't go after Kennedy and Biden because he still appeared to be on his way to confirmation, but then the leftist GOPers decided that he wasn't going to do, so they scuttled his nomination.

What a legacy. I'm sure the morning news shows will love him when he retires.
If he had something other than ME On TV in mind, here's what he should have done.
Offered a plan with 10 percent cut in all taxes, across the board. 10 percent reduction in government spending, every department. 10 percent reduction in welfare payments.
When Obama rejected that, offer the same plan, with 15 percent in each place.
But no, he wanted to be loved on TV. So in 2014, we get to hear over and over and over how Conservatives and Republicans and Tea Party members RAISED your taxes, and how Obama and the Democrats fought for your rights.
And you know what? It'll work. Democrats will win back the house, keep the senate, and go on blaming Bush. Because why change a formula that works.
I'm gonna buy ammo. And hey, what's a good rifle?

I suspect it was no accident that Tarantino declined after the Avary partnership ended. That guy seemed to be able to construct a good story and reign in Tarantino's excesses. "True Romance" was the best movie done and led to the eventual split, apparently, although Avary got paid off later, with "Killing Zoe" (according to scuttlebut/rumour). TR, Dogs and PF were Tarantino and Avary together. "Jackie Brown" was an adaptation and not bad at all, but a little clunky. After that, it's all shit city.

Yeah its only common sense to have guns that use ammo that can be captured, liberated, scavenged, or even gotten from "friendly" troops. The way I always thought about it is that historically it seems that personal arms are really just a stepping stone to eventually capture better ones. You have to figure if shit really...really hit the fan you'll be looking to pick up serious shit at the first opportunity. If it ever got that ugly I think the term "raiding party" is going to reenter every day usage.

Weird thing about True Romance, is that IIRC, Avary's story was scripted by Tarantino to play out like Pulp Fiction, all flashbacks and flash forwads. Tony Scott was dubious about it and went with Avary's layout, but retained the basic dialogue. The movie version is much better than Tarantino's Pulp Fiction style structure. Jackie Brown has some great parts, but the film doesn't quite come together well.

So it looks like the holiday retail season was a bust. That is in line with what I observed over the last month or so. About three weeks before Christmas Mommy and I went to the mall to hit up a sale and there were 50-60% discounts up then. We went out again the weekend before Christmas and the mall was a normal Saturday busy, most sales were at least 50% off and after we left Mommy commented that people weren't carrying many bags. Our family Christmas was normal but that's because we've agreed to a budget and stick to it.

This country is headed toward deflation like Japan or hyper inflation like Argentina. We all know what needs to be done. Cut spending. They control the House. Why not write a bill that cuts spending, eliminates some federal departments, eliminates deductions. Has the Department of Energy ever produced any energy; has the Department of Education educated a single child?
Republicans suck at negotiations. They walk into the room giving President Obama half of what he wants. They effectively surrender before the negotiations even begin. Why not do the right thing and actually address the problem facing this country. Spending.
What are they afraid of

If this is what you're suggesting the Republicans do, it won't work. The Republican Party is either too lazy to bother being an opposition party, or forgot what it entailed to be one.
