The Hidden Link Between Medieval Land Parceling and Modern American Psychology

Did land division rules drive culture?

The flight from Boston to Chicago isn't the most scenic, but if you're lucky enough to snag a window seat - no mean feat these days - study the patchwork landscape with a discerning eye. About 40 minutes into the flight, you'll notice something a bit peculiar (at least for North America): Instead of the usual tableau of square or rectangular farmsteads, you'll see ribbons of agronomy.

These ribbon layouts are a ghost of geography: a relic from when France parceled land in Canada back in the 1600s. What's most intriguing to me, though, is how ribbon farms - or rather the lack thereof in much of the United States - shaped attitudes toward modern transportation, and continue to shape our psychology as a nation today.

Because with ribbon farms, the expectation is that transportation is king.

farmswestofmontreal-timsatellitegooglemap

So when the U.S. started with square farms, the process and the results were the exact opposite from ribbon farms: We plotted the farms first and then pondered the logistics. It's therefore no surprise that Americans feel transportation should come to us instead of the other way around. We pick a place to live and then figure out how to get where we need to go. If no way exists, we build it: roads, arterials, highways, interstates . and so on.
We pick a place to live and then figure out how to get where we need to go. If no way exists, we build it.. It's the American way.

And it's this quirk of geography - the shape of a typical American farm - that I believe influenced the development of the entire nation.

...The fact that the farm, not the transportation, came first is important. It was a geographic case of the tail wagging the dog.

Well I'm not so sure the specific differences in land parceling were quite as psychologically significant as the author claims or that the Canadian/French way is clearly superior.

The French ribbon-farm layout may optimize for ease of transportation but assumes an existing road system and minimizes any choice in how to layout a farm. But the American system let people choose the locations to farm in and then roads were built based on demand and farm location.

So I would argue the latter system was optimized for the greatest local personal choice and maximum agricultural output over central planning and easier transportation. And these differences in choice and priorities behind the systems do reflect different cultural values and traditions that are still visible today e.g. Anglo-Saxon capitalism versus Dirigisme.

It is remarkable the amount of ire you collect nowadays, like lint, simply by being insufficiently worshipful of the State and its gentle intentions.

Ken Burns: Leftist Cockholster

Ken Burns is one of those people who become more unlikeable the more they open up.

The filmmaker, who works primarily on projects for PBS, says there wouldn't be a birther movement with a President Joe Biden in the White House. Burns then turned his attention to the Tea Party, saying a friend who attended a Tea Party event told him "almost every one she met there invoked the 'n-word'" about the president, he recalls.

That friend isn't the only one hearing that racial slur of late, he alleges.

"I have heard in last four years the 'N-word' used more often than in the rest of my life," the 59-year-old filmmaker says, adding Obama's detractors routinely call the president "un-American," the "other" and a Muslim.

Adam Carolla had Burns on his podcast last year and it was one of the few episodes I've ever turned off mid-cast and deleted. Burns insisted on making every single topic political and humorlessly spouting far left talking points until it was simply unlistenable.

It's Transgressive Radical Sex, Not Ordinary Mortal Sex

Nadia Cho, a student at UC Berkeley had sex in the campus library and wants all you close-minded squares to know about her super-edgy radical act.

We decided that, out of the millions of books in the library, the shelves full of books on religion seemed like the best place to fuck.

...Berkeley is the best place to explore your sexuality. Our school is a predominantly safe and accepting space with many places, people and resources to help you discover your sexual self. It is the place where I learned what it means to be queer, to recognise the presence of patriarchy, to attempt polyamory and to become more confident in my sexuality so I could go ahead with new experiences - attending naked parties and orgies and writing a sex column, just to name a few.

David Thompson snarks:

The studiously uninhibited Ms Cho is keen to educate the rest of us in matters sexual and political. She tells us, for instance, that, "Sex-positive isn't a term that most people are familiar with. Look it up, learn and be amazed."

Suitably amazed and quaking with excitement, Ms Cho shares her insights: "Sex-positive is a concept, a culture and a state of mind. It is a view based on acceptance, communication, zero judgement..." Judgement is recurring motif in Ms Cho's sexual sermons and we are told, more than once, that, "It's extremely insensitive to berate a person's intimate experiences," and that, "It feels good to internalise the belief that you deserve to be respected for your personal decisions and that you're not doing anything wrong in doing what feels right for you." And hence, presumably, the shagging in public libraries and issues of tissue.

...Ms Cho's previous contributions to human knowledge include, "The thought of being in a [monogamous] relationship scares the living shit out of me," and a stern reminder that while having "fucking intense, mind-blowing sex," her partners "need to acknowledge and understand their positions and privileges relative to mine." Which sounds like a recipe for the hottest, edgiest, most radical sex ever.

Well as we all know hot sex was invented circa 1970 so this isn't quite as an amazing of a discovery as  Cho thinks it is. And she's not quite hawt enough to be this tedious and annoying.

The Problem with the Homeless

By now most people have heard about the NYPD policeman who gave a shoe-less homeless man a nice pair of boots. Of course a few days later the man was spotted walking around barefoot and couldn't quite explain where the shoes went.

This is a classic example showing that the problem with the homeless is in general not the lack of a home but the underlying mental illness and/or drug abuse that resulted in them being on the street. But Bookworm explains this far better than I could.

8 "Compassion" Under Socialist Healthcare: Dying "Like A Battery Hen" More: http://politicalhat.com/?p=722 The husband of British MP Ann Clwyd, “died like a battery hen.” The horrid conditions that people, especially babies, have to endure have already been touched upon here, but what her husband went through bears repeating here: “I stopped one nurse in the corridor and asked why he was not in intensive care, and she said ‘there are lots of people worse than him’ and she walked on. “I’d previously stopped another nurse, and asked when a doctor had last seen him, and I was just brushed aside and told a doctor had been to the floor but had not seen my husband but she said ‘we know what to do’. “Well, I feel we know what to do meant ‘do nothing’. “I’ve tried in the past to get bills on the welfare of battery hens. My husband died like a battery hen. He was six foot two, he was cramped, squashed up against the iron bars of the bed, an oxygen mask that didn’t fit his face, his eye was infected “Because the air from the oxygen was blowing into it, his lips were very dry. I used my own lypsyl to try and moisten them. There were no nurses around. “Just at eight o’clock, just before he died, all the lights of the ward went on, and somebody shouted ‘anybody for breakfast?’” What makes this to frightening is that the man who dies so horribly was the husband of a Member of Parliament. If this is the care given to the well-connected, just think of what the average British commoner has to deal with! Sadly, British doctors can not only withhold treatment, but do so according the Orwellian named “Liverpool Care Pathway” which involved having patients, both elderly and infants, die a horrible and tortuous death. Perhaps the late Robert Calvert said it best: “O for the wings of any bird, Other than a battery hen” To the victims of the British NHS, may you find peace at last.

It was actually the storage room within the computer room where the computer paper (yes, computer paper) was housed. I was a student at the time.

Thankfully, a lot of the terain in No. America does not allow for being chopped up into 'ribbon' shaped parcels.

There are some boneheaded developers these days, who will take an 80 acre parcel and carve it up into 5 acre ribbons instead of squares.

Argh.

There is no privacy to be had, living on a thin ribbon shaped piece of land.

But people buy them anyway.

81 NW Oh. As soon as you depart the city, the land is cut up in 1 Square miles, with roads exactly 1 mile apart, and its rare for it to be any other way. North/South roads will jog over about 100 feet every 10 miles or so to make up for the fact that longitude comes together the further north you go. So when you come to a stop and have to turn left and then right again to stay on the same road, its called the longitudnal correction. Just a little tidbit.

82 Those "ribbon" farms are actually pretty common in rural New England. It has nothing to do with the spirit of liberty or any of that. 95 My limited understanding of the old French land grants in Quebec is that these "seigneuries" were originally rather square, and were bounded on one side by the St. Lawrence River, which was the only transportation artery at the time.

When the seigneur died, and he had two or more sons, the property would be divided. Since both sons wanted river access, it would be split on a line at right angles to the river.

Do this generation after generation, and ribbons result.

Re: Agriculture and land use.  In our area, in Washington state, our farms are parced in that exact 'ribbon' looking pattern.  However, historically, it came about this way:  The section of 640 acres was homesteaded and the county ended up with road right aways before the land was parceled out and sold to people to make farms - originally it was wooded.  The road right aways were rather square and skirted the land and crossed through it like graph paper, but in the end most of those rights were abandoned prior to the original owners selling off the ribbon parcels to prospective farmers (c1950s).

These people, the doctors, who seek to do good, do they do it for the good? Because it seems they could do an awful lot of good in much less dangerous places that don't require another American risk his/her life to save them if the situation goes bad. 186 @82 Bingo. It's all about the plows. Medieval plows were all wood and weighed an ancient amount called a "fucking ton." It took all afternoon to "turn one over" to go the other way. An acre is what a team of oxen can plow in a day; a furlong is one "furrow long."

FWIW, any bovine animal used for work is an "ox." We are used to seeing bullocks in that role, but if you plow with the milch-cow, she's an ox right then.

My grandfather homesteaded and worked as a farm laborer in the Dakotas just before WWI. He told of plowing with steam tractors, going one way all day -- miles and miles -- then putting a crew on to turn the plow over, and go back the next, day after day. They would plow right through the roads (and the excavated rises they sat on), and go back and rebuild the road later. It was that hard to turn the plow.

So, the surveying story is almost pure bullshit.

209 this is a bit pedantic of the usual overnight thread, but allow me to defend the practice of ribbon farms, under certain circumstances. Look at land maps of the lower Mississippi River, and you will see all of the old plantation holdings were parceled out the same way. Simple reason: the River was the one overwhelming, unchangeable mode of transportation, and ribbon land allocation maximized the number of properties that had access to the River while also raising the value of lands some distance from the River that would have been cut off from access under the square-style land layout. When the avenue of transportation is fixed (as with the Mississippi) then ribbon-farming provides the greatest and most broad-based amount of access to that avenue.

It's got Jason Bonham on drums, Derek Sherinian (ex-Dream Theater) on keys, Joe Bonamassa on gee-tar and the mighty Glenn Hughes (ex-Deep Purple) on vox. Some amazing old school hard rock. Check it out, I think you'll be pleased.

A lot of the really old neighborhoods in Los Angeles are like that. Right up until the late 20s, as can be seen in the areas around the older studios. A friend of mine bought a place with an absurdly deep and narrow yard but it was very close to his studio job and there was a good gym nearby where he use the showers until his renovations on the plumbing were done.

303 @209 Servo, I don't think that's overly pedantic. But it opens the very ugly can of Riparian Rights, the teeming legal battleground of the middle ages. The reason everyone had to cling to their bit of riverbank in Yon Olden Tyme was that post-Roman societies failed in working out a way to share access to docks and quays.

The feudal levy had a means by which to provide roads between estates and depot points, but it was inefficient and expensive. I'll throw in "labor intensive" so you and I can share that little joke.

In a feudal or slaveholding economy, getting the grain or cotton from the (very) far end of your estate to the transfer point was your problem, which you took care of with your people. As markets developed, social functions got more efficient. Well, that's theory: internal improvements, "the American system," homesteading, and Huey Long all played a role too, and none of those are particularly capitalist at all.

339 So Cracked has an article on "celebrity scandals" that should have thrown the celeb out of the public limelight and the first one they pick is Rush Limbaugh, because;

Prior to 2003, the war on drugs and its various casualties were a target that Rush Limbaugh set his sights on regularly. He built his career on lecturing those who lived outside his rigid moral code. This drug scandal was a fundamental breach of the informal contract Rush Limbaugh had with his audience

This line of attack has always perplexed me. I listened to Rush off and on for years and could never remember him caring much about the WoD, let alone people who use prescription drugs illegally.

I *do* remember a president that ran on a strong feminist platform...after he raped a woman, and then sexually harassed several more after being elected. Too obvious I guess?

Posted by: Jenny Tries Too Hard at December 09, 2012 11:48 PM (b+8h9) Beetlejuice was great because is was DIFFERENT. Wonderfully surreal and goofball. Yet Keaton at the time was already famous as a screwball, mouthy comic actor, so there was a grounding in the familiar to offset the strangeness of the film. Yet getting back to my list of starmaking roles, in two of those movies, Die Hard and Escape from New York, Willis and Russell were already pretty big stars. The starmaking part was that each of them was known for roles that were NOT tough-guy heros. Willis was the goofy TV comedy guy from Moonlighting and Russell was a popular Disney child star.

367 The way that land is divided up changed back in the 1780s.  The original 13 colonies and "states" that weren't states yet, WV, TN, KY, Maine and VT, and land was divided in the "metes and bounds" system.  When land is conveyed, it is described legally as:

"beginning with a corner at the intersection of two stone walls near an apple tree on the north side of Muddy Creek road one mile above the junction of Muddy and Indian Creeks, north for 150 rods to the end of the stone wall bordering the road, then northwest along a line to a large standing rock on the corner of John Smith's place, thence west 150 rods to the corner of a barn near a large oak tree, thence south to Muddy Creek road, thence down the side of the creek road to the starting point."

Canada and the later states were set up with "Lot and Block" system. All land was broken up into counties, then some smaller blocks, then smaller, etc. When you fly over the midwest, you can really see this system in place. If you see the counties of the later 33 states, all the counties appear to have straight lines for county lines, and the original 18 states have counties that look like a 3 year old drew them.

Especially with the advent of Craigslist.

496 so, current television has a show called "prison smugglers". some girl named janet choi goes prison to prison investigating how stuff is smuggled into prisons and then tries to use some of the techniques discussed to smuggle stuff into the prison to fool the guards. commonly repeated phrase - "this here package is ready to go, little bit of lube is all you need and it is good to go." "some of these guys are veterans and can smuggle pounds and pounds of stuff." fyi al gore is a creative guy.

497 Leo McKern , the guy laughing manically in "The Prisoner" clip, was a great British (born Australian) character actor who appeared in everything from the Beatles movie Help! (as a Hindu), to Reilly: Ace of Spies", and most memorably --- at least to me ---as "Rumpole of the Bailey".

"Rumpole" lasted  five seasons on PBS.  It was a hoot.

If you've heard the phrase, "She who must be obeyed", it comes from Rumpole referring to his relentlessly formidable wife, Hilda.

And so to bed.

503 I watched The Prisoner when it first came out on broadcast TV when I was six. It was, shall we say, a bit different from the usual fare.

I was a bit of a handful for my folks. "Little Shop Around the Corner". Jimmy Stewart, Margaret Sullivan. Great chemistry. Let me add a few more: " The Man Who Came To Dinner" with Bette Davis, Monty Woolley , Ann Sheridan, Jimmy Durante. Still hilarious after all these years. "Christmas in Connecticut" with Barbara Stanwyck. And my favorite: "Remember the Night" with Barbara Stanwyck and Fred MacMurray. 516 50 (making notes) Be sure and visit the bathroom at the public library next trip. Bring a camera.

My 'town' of 150k residents has no library right now. The new one is built, but won't open until the spring. The old satellite one closed a month ago to get ready to move. Our other one washed out during Katrina.

Note to public officials -- putting a library 60 feet from the shoreline is generally NOT a good idea.

************

Another note to public officials:  building a new library when the internet increasingly  puts every single book ever written on-line is a huge waste of money.   ESPECIALLY given the proliferation of smartphones, tablets and the like.

New libraries are just holding pens for after-school teens, and places for "the homeless" to warm up and take a dump.

Otherwise they are useless.

525 Leo McKern played Socrates in several dramatizations of Plato's Dialogues. Damn they were good. They made me realize that Plato was a playwright first; he was writing these very clever drawing-room comedies, based on this character who'd been around Athens years before.

There's a lot of jokes in there if you have the right translation. He only found some of them. And it's all timing. McKern made lines that would put you to sleep in Phil 205 come off as snappy. Short pieces, well worth watching, and McKern acting his very considerable ass off. "The Drinking Party" (1965)

542 ItÂ’s all pray and no play.

The Islamic cultural center near Ground Zero that opened with great fanfare a year ago is now an empty space with no community programs.

And while the developers behind Park51 insisted for two years that the project was more than a mosque, it now appears to be just that. Dozens of worshipers gather at the site on Park Place Friday for prayer services — but that’s the only activity in the building.

Gone are the Arabic classes, workshops in calligraphy, talks on the genealogy of Muslims in America, film screenings and art exhibits. The sole community event is a class in capoeira — an Afro-Brazilian martial art that combines dance and music. The teacher of the twice-weekly class said she has five students.

555 From TVTropes -------------- Some have even theorized that both characters (Secret Agent Man and The Prisoner) are also the same person as the secret agent McGoohan played in the film Ice Station Zebra. Certain small differences in behavior between the three characters (for example, Drake does not drink, the Prisoner drinks occasionally, and the Ice Station Zebra character is a borderline alcoholic) have been taken as hints toward the reason Number Six resigned his job (his refusal to divulge this reason is the MacGuffin for the series; his antagonists figure that if they can break him enough to get that information out of him, the rest will follow). -------------

I was big into model rockets when I was a kid.  Two Guys was going out of business in the early 70's and was blowing out everything in the store at give-away prices.  My brother and I got hundreds of 3-packs of engines for $.05/pack.

Rip up some 1/4" square sticks on the table saw, tape an engine to it, then tape a M80 to that and drape the M80's fuse over the rocket's exhaust port.  Made for a cheap "super" bottle rocket.

571 When Trent Reznor was asked if Cash could cover his song, Reznor said he was "flattered" but worried that "the idea sounded a bit gimmicky." He became a fan of Cash's version, however, once he saw the music video.

"I pop the video in, and wow... Tears welling, silence, goose-bumps... Wow. I just lost my girlfriend, because that song isn't mine anymore... It really made me think about how powerful music is as a medium and art form. I wrote some words and music in my bedroom as a way of staying sane, about a bleak and desperate place I was in, totally isolated and alone. [Somehow] that winds up reinterpreted by a music legend from a radically different era/genre and still retains sincerity and meaning Â— different, but every bit as pure."

572 How can anyone possibly hate Johnny Cash? Posted by: otho at December 10, 2012 01:59 AM (yBF/9) I don't know. Trent Reznor might be kind of ticked at him for being an old man and singing one of his songs better than he could ever hope to. But I kind of doubt that actually. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l95D7leeU3w Posted by: buzzion at December 10, 2012 02:03 AM (GULKT) Actually, when Reznor first heard that Cash was going to cover one of his songs, he thought that it was a cheap and stupid marketing schtick. When Reznor heard Cash's version of "Hurt" he was so moved that he signed over the rights to the song because he felt that Cash owned the song in a way he never could. One of the best and most moving videos ever.

573 In Johnny's day, the only ones who really scored were the record labels.  There wasn't much in the way of separate endorsement deals, having your own clothing brand, etc that all the big names are pimping today.

He died seven months after the video was shot, and his wife died three months after the production. So I doubt money was on is mind.

He would make money on sales of his version and Reznor would draw royalties from that.

Oh I'm sure he got something from it.  I mean there are plenty of instances of other musicians writing song for others or them doing the same song, especially a few decades ago.  So he likely got some money out of it.

Cash would have gotten performance royalties out of it. Not nearly as much as lyrics/music, but, even a figure in the low single digits, %age wise from that release would have been decent liquor money.

Yeah and they actually thought that the episode with Terrence and Phillip would be the last one they made since it was the last of their original run.  I think they also thought that Bigger Longer and Uncut would be the end too.  If you see that original Terrence and Phillip episode it kind of follows a very similar plot to the movie.  Shows what those guys know huh.

And yes the live action episode was hilarious.  I still think their ultimate linecrossing was the Woodland Critter Christmas.  It was awesome when they returned in Imaginationland, and were almost too evil for the likes of Jason and Freddie Kruger.

Whats to get? John Belushi was already too big a star to do a TV version of Animal House, so they got Josh Mostel to play Bluto's younger brother, even though the actor far more resembled Stephen Furst as Flounder. Anyway, they needed a name the audience would key to, so they gave him the frat nickname of Blotto.

599 Aside from being a shitty wannabe guitarist, 58.2675% of my entire understanding of the music business is based largely on the following depressing, possibly-not-accurate anecdotes of music industry perfidy:

1. Sting getting the majority of the royalties from "Money for Nothing" despite singing a tiny bit, and none of the important part,  of the song.

2. The Rolling Stones getting most of the credit, pecuniary-wise, from The Verve's hit "Bittersweet Symphony".

Recall that the original title for the movie was 'All Hell Breaks Loose.' They were told this was unacceptable for an R rating and would get an NC-17 kiss of death because of the word hell.

So instead they submitted a dick joke as a title and that was OK.

607 There has been a historic shift in the UN climate talks in Qatar, with the prospect of rich nations having to compensate poor nations for losses due to climate change.

... but if you look at the Copenhagen Accords, it was more than compensation for damage from climate change.

The Copenhagen Accords are an international industrial policy statement.  The compensation is really a payoff to the Third world not to develop and challenge the First and Second WorldÂ’s position.  To prove this point, look at who doesnÂ’t want to sign aboard .. China and India.

The problem is that there will never be enough money to keep the Third World as the Third World .. to keep them undeveloped.

Doha has proven this point.

And they also learned it was very arbitrary.  They got a lot in with Bigger Longer and Uncut and it was only an R-rating.  As opposed to their movie "Orgasmo"  which received an NC-17 rating.    Having Paramount backing you up let them get away with a lot.

617 Re. the linked excerpt from the article about land divisions and American psychology blah blah bullsh*t . . . the author apparently begins with a decision by one of the french kings named Louie and Cardinal Richelieu.  That is stupid.  The author should have noted the difference between the Continental tradition of partible inheritance versus the British tradition of primogeniture.  That's where the difference in land divisions arises, from cultural traditions in the Old World, not from arbitrary decisions made in a vacuum in the New World.  Has anyone else noted this problem?  I just jumped in, haven't read all the comments.

Some movie character who thought Minnie Driver was attractive to heterosexual men certainly imagined as much.

Did Howard Zinn BLOW YOUR MIND, Matt?

Was that before, or after, the syphilitic dementia set in?

I'll give you two, nah, four, guesses as to what my bet would be.

You retarded fucking dilettante.

650 Bizarre attraction to lantern-jaw Minnie Driver? Check.
Retarded dilettantism to mask mental inferiority? Check.
Syphilitic dementia?...

Get outta my mind!!!

651 Hell, I'll give you ten.

Do you remember The Count on Sesame Street, Matt?

Possibly a bit beyond your mental abilities, but The Count, he could recite numbers up to ten.

Try to count to ten, Matt.

That's how many opportunities you have to discover whether or not you're a puny imbecilic dupe of Howard Zinn.

One retard ... ah ... ah ... ah.

Are you capable of independent thought, Matt?

Mattt! DAAMON!?

Two! Two Communist fuckknobs, manipulated by Howard Zinn.

Ah... ah... ah ...

652 Syphilitic dementia is probably a lot of fun.

In 1990's Oscar-land, it's enough to get you a shiny golden figure, to which you can cravenly genuflect forever after.

Even if you never produce another remotely-interesting piece of art in your chosen medium again.

*cough*

Mr Damon.

*cough*

653 Big Bird was an oppressor. He kept Oscar in a can! The Count knew enough to tow the party line with natural numbers; otherwise, his loved ones would become "negative".

654 "Big Bird" was a CIA spy satellite!

Fuck, Matt, why aren't you blowing the fucking whistle on this?! The CIA! Monitoring good-hearted Soviet citizens' purchases of ZIL sedans and occasional loaves of bread.

Matt! THIS STORY MUST BE TOLD! Some Soviets got to eat FUCKING APPLES, as if they were the King of France! Fucking anti-proletarian assholes! Blow the story, Matt! BLOW IT!

655 KH-9 HEXAGON, Matt.

I can't say more, or the Capitalists will be after me, with their polonium and gulags and guillotines.

Fight the good fight, Matt.

I trust you. You're a Hollywood Star.

658 Only a yankee would make such a statement without pics (of her) to back it up, turncoat!

I listened to the Adam Carolla podcast with Ken Burns. You should have listened to the whole thing. Towards the end, Carolla destroys Burns. Maybe "destroys" is not the right word, but he gets in a funny little dig undermining Burns' liberal preaching on race, which is all the more effective for it's wit and subtlety and the fact that he patiently tolerated Burns' opinions for an hour before offering just one, well-timed retort.

Going from memory, I recall that  Burns was interesting on the topic of making documentaries, but he threw in a lot of annoying opinions and a lot of white guilt stuff. He's very ostentatious with his anti-racism. Carolla didn't offer much response and continued to kiss Burns' a$$ on the topic of his documentary-making skills. But at the very end, Carolla zinged him with a good one. Earlier in the interview, Burns had talked about living in rural New Hampshire - how nice it is, etc. etc. Later on, when Burns was going on about America's on-going racial problems, Carolla jumped in with a quip about all the minorities in Ken Burns' town. Burns laughed and acknowledged that this town was nearly all white, then continued with his sermon on race as if this emphasized his points. But in reality, Carolla undercut his whole point with one friendly joke. It made the whole interview worthwhile, despite Burns, annoying ideological assertions. I think it's available on YouTube.

Hello from Down Under

Obviously you're all still asleep, here it's almost 10.30pm Monday night and I'm just putting off cleaning up cat poop and vomit from the garage - my oldest kitty is a bit crook it seems...oh well, better get the rubber gloves on and get the cleaning upper stuff ready..

BTW that recipe upthread for those orange ball thingies sounds really delicious and I might just give it a go for a Christmas treat

662 Well, if Ms. Cho had dreadlocks, she'd look like a rabbit-toothed version of The Predator, so she's got that going for her. Besides her naturally lubricated p****, which was only invented in about 1998.
