If You Make Less Than $60,000 and Have Kids, Quit Your Job!
Because you'll actually live better on the dole:
You can do as well working one week a month at minimum wage as you can working $60,000-a-year, full-time, high-stress job.My chart tells the story. It is pretty much self-explanatory.
This is in Mississippi but I'm guessing the numbers are similar in other states. The really depressing part is that if you work hard and double your income from $14K to $30K, you actually get poorer.
Update: Dead Parrot points out that this chart has been critiqued for using inflated numbers. I haven't calculated with the new numbers but I suspect that there's still going to be little incentive (maybe $600 more a month?) to work 4x the hours.
Newt: The Most Unpopular Man in Politics?
There is, I think, a cautionary tale here, although it probably comes too late. It was obvious to everyone who remembered the history of the 1990s that Gingrich would be a disaster as a presidential candidate, however much we may enjoy his repartee and respect him as a thinker whose ideas are often good. Yet millions of Republican activists, heedless of the past and ignoring Newt's obvious weaknesses, enthused over him as a candidate and made him the man of the hour. Or the man of two or three weeks, maybe.
Well I did try to warn people about Newt but was mostly ignored. But hey what do I know - I've only been following him since the mid-80's and politics since the late 70's.

The most interesting man in the world?
At 9, he settled a dispute with a pistol. At 13, he lit out for the Amazon jungle.
At 20, he attempted suicide-by-jaguar. Afterward he was apprenticed to a pirate. To please his mother, who did not take kindly to his being a pirate, he briefly managed a mink farm, one of the few truly dull entries on his otherwise crackling résumé, which lately included a career as a professional gambler.
And that doesn't even cover his rowing across the Atlantic and the Pacific nor his truly epic whore-mongering.
John Fairfax, RIP at age 74.

5 Great Love Stories That Weren't Really All That Great
The fantasy version: Edward gave up the British throne to be with the women he loved.
The reality:
Wallis Simpson didn't really want to marry Edward. Sure, she might have given in if there were a crown involved, but she did not want her boyfriend to abdicate. By then she was sick of him, but knew she was pretty much trapped. ...The newly dubbed Duke and Duchess of Windsor stayed together until Edward's death. They indulged in their hobbies of throwing house parties where they screamed at each other in front of guests, having affairs, and talking about how great Hitler was, an opinion the Duke aired in public until at least the late 1960s.

Ok, onto Newt. Seriously? Ok, look, I like Newt well enough as a person. But you know what, I like my neighbor Steve well enough as a person too, and I wouldn't elect him president. Newt's campaign has been a disorganized mess from the get go, so much so that he's not even on the ballot in a lot of states. So no matter how much I enjoy watching him slap the snot out of some idiot biased reporter in a debate setting, frankly he's never had my support and never will. Stick a fork in him already, he's done.
Much like Ron Paul, I have no idea why so many folks are wasting so much time talking about him because there is no chance in hell he can ever win the nomination. It's a total waste of time and energy. Look, again, I like Ron Paul well enough. I think he's one of the few candidates out there who actually understands the real picture of how much fiscal trouble we are actually in - but lets be honest, he has zero chance of getting nominated and honestly his ideas on foreign policy are beyond reckless, there completely insane.
And of course, as to the Duke and Duchess of Windsor:
"They indulged in their hobbies of throwing house parties where they screamed at each other in front of guests, having affairs, and talking about how great Hitler was, an opinion the Duke aired in public until at least the late 1960s. "
Which, sadly, was sounds leaps and bounds better than my own previous marriage. At least they got to indulge in their hobbies and throw house parties.. lol..

You might check out Richard Francis Burton. Largely self-taught, fluent in over 30 languages, considered to be the finest swordsman in the world. Infiltrated different cults to learn religion, he wrote Tales of the Arabian Knights from stories collected in Mecca, wrote the Kamra Sutra while a member of a love cult in India. As a child actively tried to kill any teacher his parents would hire.

I haven't taken any government assistance since my daughter was an infant (WIC, 20 years ago). I've always wanted to make it on my own. Hmm I'll have to read that critique closely. I figured there was some padding in the numbers, but even with Singal's lower numbers I suspect that the end result would be mostly just a matter a degree.
If quadrupling the amount of time you work plus added stress and hassle only netted you say an extra $700 a month, well I suspect a lot of people would decide that it's not worth it.

The company kicks in a few bucks if I take the insurance, but it most certainly does not give it to me as a "benefit", as in I get it for free. Just not how it works. Rotfl.. you've never actually lived in an area where most everyone is on food stamps, have you? I've lived in a couple of cities in some rather rough areas of town where almost all of my neighbors were on welfare.
At the grocery store they would be spending there food stamp money on steak - I'd be buying hamburger helper with cash from my job. If they need cash for clothes, or more to the point drugs.. guess what? They'd sell their food stamps for 60-80 cents on the dollar.
Need more food stamp money? No problem.. have another kid out of wedlock. Problem solved. Ok, I know, going to have the PC police jumping all over me for this, calling me racist, etc..
But thing is, I lived there. I watched it happen day after day. The folks in those neighborhoods lived in run down houses or housing developments but had brand new escalde's with 2,000 worth of rims and 5,000 dollar and up aftermarket stereo's in them - and no, that wasn't just the ones dealing drugs.

“Independent reports confirm that speculators are driving up the cost of oil, hurting consumers and potentially damaging the economic recovery. Wall Street profiteering, not oil shortages, is the cause of the price spike. In fact, U.S. oil production is at its highest level since 2003, and millions of acres have been cleared for additional development.
“We need to take strong action to protect consumers from this speculation. Unfortunately, Republicans have chosen to protect the interests of Wall Street speculators and oil companies instead of the interests of working Americans by obstructing the agencies with the responsibility of enforcing consumer protection laws. They have also repeatedly opposed our efforts to end billions of dollars in outdated taxpayer subsidies for oil companies enjoying record profits.
“We support efforts by the Obama Administration to expand domestic energy resources, including natural gas and renewable sources like wind and solar that create jobs in America and will end our dangerous dependence on foreign energy supplies. This can be achieved because today, the United States currently has more oil and gas rigs at work than the rest of the world combined, and imports of foreign oil have decreased.
“We call on the Republican leadership to act on behalf of American consumers and join our efforts to crack down on speculators who care more about their profits than the price at the pump even if these spikes harm the American consumer and our economy.”

Nominating a guy is only the first step.. and honestly, if you can't even put a campaign together that can get you on the ballot for the primary in more than 4 or 5 states, then your odds of beating an incumbent president are pretty slim.
As to Newt's big ideas, ya, he has some. Sadly though today they are big conservative ideas, tomorrow they'll be big liberal ideas, and he can't seem to differentiate between the two. Newt is all over the map, always has been since his days in congress.
Like I said, I think Newt's a smart guy, and a good debater. I like the guy well enough, as a person. Couldn't support him for President though, he's just too damn erratic and anyone who knows him well will most likely tell you the same.

Ace covered the dude a few years ago, it's the guy who said horrible things about a blogger's wife shortly after she had died and also the guy who published Michelle Malkin's home address, phone number, and an areal view of her house - just two of the many rotten things he has done. He has resurfaced and is causing trouble again for anyone who is not aware of his history. So I have compiled a handy dandy dossier with everything that needs to be known about the guy who Ace called "Milk tits".

Douchebag central (at least where I live). But some of there stuff is good and some is actually well-priced (their 365 brand is a major bargain). Mostly, though, when I go there, I have the strangest urge to stand right outside the door and burn a Parley, just to watch them freak out. Customers and staff. Maybe it's worse in California, everything else seems to be.

Well, the British and the rest of the Europeans never recovered from the traumas of the two world wars they started.
We never recovered from it, either. Millions of troops came home and used the G.I. Bill to go to college and then become workaholic, absent fathers obsessively chasing material wealth. They spawned the angry Baby Boomers, who turned into values-hating hippies and took over our education system, our financial system, our manufacturing, and much of our politics, and we've been in decline ever since. Everything in the U.S. after World War II has been a big raised middle finger to Daddy.
Current-day Americans are the final casualties of World War II.

It's a white crowd at the Whole Foods here, too. Hadn't really thought about it, but generally the only nonwhite faces in the one here are the Mexican dudes in the produce section. They're mega-competent like everyone else in the place. The produce is unmatched, so I can't stay out of the place, crunchy lib enclave though it is.
Interesting, though, how libs treasure isolated, elite white enclaves like Whole Foods and Vermont and Oregon. I guess the diversity thing only goes so far.

Interesting theory, not quite 100 percent on board however. The hangover of the Kennedy assassination, invention of the transistor, import of Eastern Europeans who didn't want to live under a dictatorship, but didn't have a problem with the basic tenets of communism. Johnson's great society which precipitated the nearly decade long recession of the 70's. An extreme mistrust of our elected officials which was deserved. Women being forced to go into the workforce so that their family could survive and no-fault divorces have pretty much fucked America up. I'll stop there because it will take all night to finish. Something about lawyers.............

What a fucking jejune "analysis". Funny, innit, how
the millions who fought in that war, and who made great sacrifices, suddenly became "workaholic, absent fathers obsessively chasing material wealth."
Funny also how we've had tens of millions come here legally and otherwise, since that war. What a hellhole those immigrants chose to move to, from the comfy, un-driven lives they left behind.

Consider yourself owned:
YouPorn, a top 100 website, has had its data exposed after it was discovered that one of its public facing servers contained a list of usersÂ’ email addresses, passwords and dates of birth.
According to NakedSecurity.com, the credentials of over 1 million users were found on a public facing server and are now being spread across the web. This is surely a case of where a usersÂ’ email is more valuable than the password itself as linking a login to an individual could impose significant personal damage.
To make things even worse, all the data was stored as plain text, so there is no hiding behind an encrypted email address or password.
So there you have it, one of the largest porn sites on the net just shared over 1 million usersÂ’ email address and passwords with the world; so much for the private browsing session.

For people who don't game the system, your most likely right. Unfortunately at least during the years I was living in larger cities in .. ok, well let's call them what they were, ghetto's - A good portion of the people I knew who were collecting from those programs did pretty much everything they could to maximize the amount they could get from the system, whether it was legal and ethical or not.
They didn't give a crap about how much they took, or how much they scammed, nor how outrageous or over the top they had to be to get more. Didn't matter to them one darn bit.
The few people I did know who were basically decent people who had fallen on hard times - they were the ones who found it almost impossible to make ends meet because they actually tried to follow the rules.
Sad, but true.

Oh ya, the character that was written in solely for merchandising purposes... yikes.
The special effects were of course better in Episodes 1-3, with all the new CGI stuff they could do.. but funny how the better the special effects got, the worse the storyline and character development became.
Honestly by episode 2 I was just really hoping Anakin would quit the incessant whining, grow a pair and go dark side already. Anything to shut him up. "Obi-wan is like a father to me.. and I hate him! I hate him.. I'm going to use my mastery of the force to stomp my foot and throw a tantrum. Oh crap.. were on tatooine.. again? Really? Ok.. another tantrum.."

Technically I am far old enough to be a grandfather. It just really hasn't sunk in yet. Can't freaking wait. Irongrampa, I will spoil that child beyond spoiling. And since his dad is a Chiropractor, (busy all the time) I will be the one to teach him the fine art of fishing as well as (with their permission) how to handle various firearms once that certain age is reached.

Never really thought about it but ya, that is kind of icky. The thing I had the biggest problems with about the whole Padme thing..
Ok, number one - she got elected Queen. How does that work exactly? But wait, it gets even dumber. When she dies at the end of the 3rd movie because she can't be with Anakin anymore, with of course no thought to her newly born children at all - who gives a crap about them when you can't be with your whiny ass Jedi gone darkside boyfriend after all? Ok.. sorry, so she dies, and Leia goes to live with Senator Bail Organa - but later on Leia in the next movie will be referred to as Princess Leia.
Ok, Organa isn't a King, and nobody is supposed to know that Leia is actually Padma's daughter, so why does everyone call Leia Princess? Also, even if you know she's Padma's daughter, is she still entitled to be called Princess since her mom was only Queen for like 4 years and then had to step down because apparently that's as long as you can be Queen on Naboo since your democratically elected to the position? And if so does that mean that all of the daughters of former queens on Naboo are called Princess? If so I'm guessing you can't swing a dead cat on Naboo without hitting a Princess of some sort.
I've also wonder how difficult it would be to get a dead cat through customs on Naboo.. but, I digress.. lol

Yeah, its really confusing with just the movies only. Because Lucas is an idiot and had a bunch of stuff in notes that don't get added in to the movie but still get a sort of official canon in the Star Wars universe. One being that Alderaan has royal lines. So yeah Bail Organa is not a king, however he is prince so Leia is entitled to be called Princess through him and not Padme. As for Naboo and its queen being elected... Lucas is a fucking idiot.

Lol.. my dad taught me how to shoot, and I went deer hunting with my grandad once. Just once. We went out that afternoon, caught sight of a 14 point buck in a clearing quite a ways off. I got all excited, grabbed my rifle.
Grandpa just laughed. He tried to explain to me that it must be at least 750 yards out.. no way we were going to hit it at that range. I took my shot anyway. Since I didn't know it was nearly an impossible shot, wouldn't you know it dumb luck took over.
We came home that afternoon with that 14 pointer strapped to the hood - My dad was blown away - he kept telling grandpa how great it was that we gotten a 14 pointer, biggest deer that grandpa had ever gotten, was going to make a great trophy.. All the guys down at the legion would be buying him beers for weeks..
Grandad didn't want to talk about it at all - needless to say he didn't take me deer hunting for about a year afterwards.. lol..

My daughter and hubby had their second son Friday a week ago. I didn't go to seem the little guy and proud parents for 5 days because I had a cold and was hacking up iridescent green goo. I'd put up a link but links no longer work here.
Our Russian friends, Grandma, Daughter and two grandkids came and visited for 5 days. Basically manic insanity ruled our life for that time. Glad to see them come and relieved to see them go.
I pulled the heads on a friends truck as he didn't have the money to get it done to replace the head gaskets. I'm waiting on them to get serviced before reassembly.
Most disturbing is I applied for VA medical benefits because the economy has my businesses down about 90% and the $1000 a month premiums I have been paying are killing me. I'm qualified for them but still feel dirty. I don't want to be on the government tit.
I have to come up with $6k for property taxes this week.
I was interviewed by an AP reporter on the primary. He liked my statement of being "Hoinked off" at Romney for the smear campaign. He asked me to spell hoinked but went on to spell it himself.
The actor I told you about last year that sat next to me in chemistry class tried to blow his brains out with a 38 but didn't quite pull it off.
Quite a week huh?

True, plenty of oil in supply here, but I heard from someone in the industry that the refineries aren't all that busy. We're not using the supply we have
What no one in the Baghdad Bob Media or Washington is pointing out is that the chief driver of skyrocketing prices isn't even Iran, it's the Fed and ECB with their nonstop printing of funny money to keep the banks from going tits up

Well, biggest problem is that a lot of people don't understand that a big part of gas prices is not whatever the oil supply happens to be at the moment.
A big problem with gas prices is the government, it mandates certain blends for different regions and different seasons - so gas that you can legally sell in the winter is not refined to the same standard as gas you can legally sell in the summer, and gas that you can legally sell in Nebraska is not refined in the exact same way as gas you can legally sell in New York, or California, or in some cases Iowa...
So as a result the government has so many regulations, taxes, and extraneous BS going on with refined gasoline that it really screws the price curve, hard. Something Bill just doesn't seem to get. So much easier to take the easy road and blame the Oil companies for making a profit, after all.
I've also noticed that for all the bitching he has yet to even mention the environmental lobby, the fact that Obama and his band of merry butt pirates are not allowing us to drill for shit but investing in Brazil's oil industry, etc.. No, none of that matters, it's just those damn evil oil companies making an evil profit, there the problem...
Sheesh.

Yeah. I hear tell that's what businesses do: they forgo the opportunity to make money. Then again, I'm a rube.
After all, no one could make money by producing/selling more , so there's no incentive for anyone else to get in and undercut current prices, until there were too many new producers/products and the prices went down until there were no profits to be had ...thus stopping the cycle.
Except that's the way it always works in the oil bidness.
OTOH O'Reilly was just on tonight complaining that refineries were working full tilt, but selling their products to China and elsewhere abroad. That make more sense than an idle refinery scenario.
Look: winter demand for oil in America isn't as high as in the summertime. But gas is a global commodity, and our slack demand here is boom demand elsewhere.
AND current pricing to gas stations is based on forward pricing, the amount the refiners anticipate having to pay for crude for their future supplies of gas.
What's the current worry?-- that Iran will close the Straits, get into a war, and disrupt the supply chain for much of the world.
So prices go up now, in anticipation of future events aka major increases in the price of crude oil.
Pretty simple.
For O'Reilly and other conspiracy types, the challenge is to explain why oil prices FALL, not why they rise.

Also O'Reilly's premise is that you could take that gas refined for winter use and keep it here and then sell it in the summer.
Whoops. Try again Billy. You can't. Try it, and the EPA would be all over your asses and your refinery would be shut down in a heart beat. Might as well sell it overseas, otherwise you have to hang on to it until winter time again. Do a little research Mr. O'Reilly - before you embarrass yourself so badly again.
As to refinery's working full tilt, ya, they are.. they always are. We haven't built a new refinery here in the states in over 25 years.. thanks mostly to the econuts. Small wonder gas is so pricey. Between that and all the government regulations, it's a wonder it's not $10 a gallon by now.
And that has absolutely nothing to do with the oil companies, something O'Reilly would be well aware of if his staff had done even 5 minutes worth of research on the subject. Seriously Bill, shame on you.

Just the way they used 3D to stage the dancers was something else, never experienced anything like that. Only 3D movies I've seen involved explosions and action scenes and things; having a beautiful dancer being lifted towards you is a whole different ballpark. over $15k economy cars, and O'Reilly joining OWS, what else is
happening? "
Well the taxpayers are footing the bill for all of the millions in legal fees that Freddie and Fannie execs are forking over to some high dollar law firm to defend themselves against allegations of fraud and misuse of tax payer dollars.
Michelle Obama apparently has billions of dollars of oil in her ass, a well that no one wants to tap.
Apparently being unemployed helps the economy, We went to war for oil in Iraq but somehow forgot to bring any of that oil back with us (just a minor oversite on our part, I'm certain), and of course the new Chevy Volt will save our entire economy and make sure were no longer dependent on foreign oil, despite their tendency to explode and the fact that they won't run more than about 10 miles on a full charge.
Other than that, same shit, new day pretty much. I wonder if maybe when the bus shows up to take me to the re-education camp if I can avoid going by protesting the fact that it's diesel?

The example that always stuck with me was Robert Nozick's takedown of 'just' redistribution using Wilt Chamberlain. Imagine you redistribute all the money in society according to your conception of justice, whatever that may be, so that everyone has exactly as much money as you believe they deserve. Then Wilt decides to put on an exhibition in Madison Square Garden, anyone who wants to can come, but it costs $100. So a hundred thousand people freely decide to come, freely decide to pay him that money, and to enjoy the exhibition. Every step of the process was made freely, no coercion involved, and everybody came out of the deal better off (or they never would have entered it in the first place, such as those people who don't care about basketball and who thus didn't buy a ticket). But, suddenly, your just distribution is gone, and here is this tremendous inequality, with Wilt becoming a multimillionaire overnight. To return to your just distributive state, you would have to take all that money away by force and return it to its initial owners, and then you would have to keep intervening this way over and over again after every single economic transaction ever. Point being, such justice is absolutely incompatible with freedom, it cannot exist without an all-powerful state. scary stuff.

I can't believe the stuff they are eager to politicize, groups and events that it would never occur to me in a million years to even want to politicize, and yet they just can't help themselves. In the meantime Hollywood and their ilk wouldn't give dime one to anything that Jeff Foxworthy and his friends on the blue collar comedy tour wanted to do, and yet they make money hand over fist. Crazy world.

I explained it to my daughter this way, when she was still pretty young. I used a simple analogy.
Ok, you've got two farmers, both of whom have chickens that lay eggs. Farmer A takes real good care of his chickens, feeds them everyday, works very hard making sure they are clean and well taken care of, and his chickens lay 100 eggs.
Farmer B, well he's not a very good farmer. He doesn't take very good care of his chickens, doesn't really clean up after them, doesn't feed them regularly, so his chickens only lay 20 eggs.
Now, if Farmer A and Farmer B are both in a capitalist system, then Farmer A can use as many of his eggs as he wants, and sell the rest. So can Farmer B. But of course Farmer A is going to have a lot more eggs to sell, so he's going to have more money that he can use to buy more chickens, build a bigger chicken coop, buy stuff his family needs or wants. Farmer B.. well, not so much. Farmer A gets more reward because he worked harder and deserves it.
Under a communist system? Well the government steps in and says that it isn't fair that Farmer A has more eggs than Farmer B. So they take eggs away from Farmer A, and give them to Farmer B. So when it's all said and done Farmer B ends up with just as many eggs as Farmer A, because according to communism that's fair.
So guess what happens next year? If you were Farmer A, would you work your butt off, taking real good care of your chickens, doing all that extra work, knowing that at the government was just going to come along and take most of your eggs and give them to Farmer B who does pretty much nothing?
Or are you going to say, you know what, I'm not going to put in all that extra effort. Why bother? The government will just take eggs from Farmer C, or Farmer D, and give them to me. Well, under communism that's how it works. And eventually even Farmer Z catches on, and then nobody has any eggs for the government to take, because nobody wants to be the guy working his butt off just to have all his eggs taken away from him and given to someone else.
So the government has to step in and tell all the Farmers, if you don't produce at least 50 eggs then you'll be arrested, jailed, maybe even killed. Well, then all the farmers will either produce 50 eggs or be jailed, but you know what? None of them will ever produce more than 50 eggs again, they will always do only what they have to do to get by and nothing more. Nobody will come up with better or easier ways of producing eggs, because they won't be rewarded for it, so why bother? Just produce what you have to and keep yourself out of jail, that's all you worry about. You can't make your life any better, you will always be a farmer, your kids will always be farmers, and you will all have to produce 50 eggs. That's your life, like it or not.
My daughter got it right away - and I think she was 8 at the time.

Lol.. nope. My middle girl is finishing her college degree and just recently married a very nice young man who is in the military.
I remember when she was about 10, she was always a pretty sensitive kid and she came home in tears one day. When I asked her what was wrong, she told me she was upset because we were all going to die and probably very soon.
Well turns out the teacher at her school had convinced her that global warming was going to kill us all in a matter of days, probably weeks if we were lucky.
So I had to sit her down and explain to her that it was all nonsense. I explained to her that mother nature puts more CO2 into the air than mankind does, by a huge percentage.
I showed her that all that nonsense about the polar icecaps were melting was just that, nonsense. I sat down and walked her through it, step by step, and showed her that most of what they claimed was total crap.
Then I had to drop the big bomb on her, when I told her that when I was her age, the same people who were screaming about global warming now were the same folks that were telling me that we would be in the next ice age by now when I was a kid.
I pulled up some old articles where the same "scientists" and "scientific" institutes who were screaming global warming at the top of there lungs now were the same guys that were warning of the next global ice age not so many years ago.
The girl was relieved at first, then she actually felt betrayed. She trusted these people.. thought they were telling her the truth. Was quite a revelation for her to find out it was all crap.
Since then she's got a really nasty habit of researching stuff for herself before making up her mind.. lol.. a habit that doesn't sit all that well with many of her college professors I'm afraid.
Got an email from her just the other day, some prof of her's went off on the abortion issue - she said "God Dad, I just wish you had been here to debate her.. you would have ripped her limb from limb. Her arguments were just so idiotic."
Lol.. love that kid. I'm sure she did just fine on her own.

However, I believe I can demonstrate mathematically why the left is always doomed to failure, and defend the math. Like you, I don't believe it is possible to make the willfully blind see, but I do believe it possible to get the skeptical to do their best to try to find a hole in someone else's math. The question is -- what will they do when they cannot disprove the math that shows the left to be all screwed up? Some will change their views, some will not, and some changes will only occur when the stagnant die and newer more open minds take their place.

Even the Hollywood leftists understand profits. FREE MARKET LIVES!!!!

Posted by: Some guy you don't know in Wisconsin at February 22, 2012 11:01 PM (0aByc)
You can't communicate anything to a leftist when it comes to rational political thought, because they are not rational. You cannot reason with unreasonable people.
You need to understand that there entire identity is tied up in there political outlook. They honestly believe that their political views make them compassionate, make them enlightened, in short make them better than you.
So whenever you tell them anything that might show them that their basic premise is wrong, in there eyes your not disproving their political belief system so much as you are attacking them personally and destroying there self worth.
As such, any argument you make is pointless. They have to reject it, immediately and without thought, because anything else and they might be forced to realize that they are not enlightened, not compassionate, not tolerant.. in short that they are not the good people they believe themselves to be.
So no rational argument, no amount of fact, nothing will convince most of them to turn from this path. You have to understand that for most of the hardcore liberal crowd, their politics is their religion, and they will cling to it with a fundamentalist zeal that one can scarcely imagine, trying to destroy anyone or anything that doesn't agree with them in all respects.
Sad, but true.

Gushka -- and I mean it in the most compassionate and helpful way -- you're a whack-job. Nutters. Several sigmas off the mean.
And, y'know what? -- so am I. And so are most of the regular crowd here. And we're oddly happy about it....
The US was founded on the principle that you could be weird. There would be no state religion, no suppression of inconvenient opinions -- you could find and use any sized megaphone that you could pay for. And in 200 years -- a blink in the scale of civilization -- we became the most successful nation the world had ever seen.
It's not because -- as many suppose -- being weird is its own reward. It's because diversity give you two bites at the apple. It's like allowing you to go both ways at every fork in the road -- with nuggets of success distributed randomly across the landscape, you can't help but discover more if every stone is uncovered. You still need some facility at discerning success and failure.
You and your neighbor could go north and south at the junction -- and shout "Eureka" when one hit paydirt -- and both could succeed.....and still be neighbors. Strong and confident people tolerate difference, embrace difference, and can be different -- and thrive. Compare this with "one-size-fits-all" Statism.....like Statist solutions forcing people of conscience to act against their fundamental tenets.
I don't do pinups......but applaud Gushie's pinup project. I'm allergic to cats......but appreciate CJ's cat posts. I can't see why women put up with much of what is male....but want to give Gabe a hug to help "buck him up" for all the unwarranted sh*t he gets. I'm downtwinkles on the head Ewok's NY-centric bipolarism......but celebrate the freedom we find at the AoSHQ. In short, you're all freaks, whack-jobs, nutters, and morons -- and it'd pain me greatly to go a day without you.

I wish it wasn't so, I truly do but those in charge in DC have (with our willing participation) already changed the US. Barack Obama didn't do it, he just shined (racist?) a spotlight on it so we could see the reality of the policies that have taken over in the last 40 years.

One of the first tenants of liberal philosophy is that anything that makes you feel good or anything you like is right, no matter how perverse or sick such behavior might be. As much as they try to sell liberalism as a "it's all about the downtrodden" philosophy the truth is at it's core liberalism is all about "me". The first step towards liberalism is to reject traditional religion and morality, as it must be, because so much of traditional religion and traditional morality teaches things like personal responsibility, an antithesis to liberal thought. It teaches absolutes - again, not something that can coexist with liberal thought - liberal thought requires all morals to be relative, or it can't survive.
So naturally anytime a liberal runs into a fine, upstanding, moral citizen it simply serves to remind them of all the flaws in there own personal philosophy. And as liberalism teaches, anything that denies liberal thought must defacto be evil, thus it must be attacked and destroyed.
Stupid, twisted, sick.. but true.
Sigh

Bill, I've read some of your books. They are well researched and well
thought out. Normally your commentary is too, but honestly, your
rants against the Oil companies obviously are not. You should be
ashamed at the lack of research obviously done by you and your staff
in this regard. The basic premise behind your rant is that gas prices
should be going down because we have a supply large enough to meet the
demand.
However what you fail to realize is that refineries will not
keep the gas they currently have on hand here in the United States
because there is no reason for them to do so, in fact it would be
extremely foolish for them to do as you suggest. Had you researched
this topic, you and your staff would realize that the gas they have on
hand now is winter blend - not summer blend. Very soon the refinery's
will be required BY LAW to change over to summer blend, and will not
be allowed to sell winter blend. So quite harassing "the evil oil
companies" and start blaming the real culprit in all of this, the EPA.
If the oil companies were to do as you suggest, and keep that
gasoline on hand, it would be useless to anyone including them in a
very short period of time and gas prices would not go down at the
pump, because they couldn't legally sell it here in the US anyway.
I won't bother providing you folks with a discussion of the
differences between winter and summer blend, butane, it's effects on
gas prices and the rest - the point should be crystal clear and any
further research is easily done with an internet connection, something
you obviously didn't do before you started this assault on the Oil
companies. Frankly I'm disappointed.
I've always found your talking points to be fair, balanced and reasonably well researched. But sadly Mr. O'Reilly you really missed the boat on this one. I can only hope that you set the record straight now. You might want to start with the fact that one of the reasons refining costs are so high to begin with is thanks in most part to the environmental lobby, since we
haven't been able to build a new refinery here in the United States in
over 25 years. Something that never gets mentioned. It's much easier
just to blame the oil industry, just as you have. Hopefully you'll be
bold and fresh enough to set the record straight.

Best wishes to Karen on her upcoming trial of will and pain.

If your going to lurk I would suggest a late model sedan or maybe a Toyota, something not so noticeable. Park in a Peterbuilt or a Mack outside some girls house and believe me, the cops will get called, restraining orders will be issued, charges will be filed.. lol

=========
lately, I have been pondering a coincidence -- no conclusions, just pondering.
I got curious once and tried my google-fu on the question: "has there ever been a language on planet earth that did not have a word for slave?' Well, I didn't get a direct answer to my question, but I got a history of slavery that covered the whole planet, and missed nowhere (with the possible exception of aboriginal Aussie -- but that is only a lack of info, not a definite no). And, if you throw in the variations of serfs, peasants, fellas, peons, etc. -- slavery was essentially the universal human existence for about 5000 years at least ---
So? Well a group of Christians basically brought slavery down several pegs. Enough so that open, unabashed slavery was no longer acceptable in society. Coincidence #1 -- not long after that, all these "isms" started popping up -- Totalitarianism was actually popular until people recognized it, so was fascism, marxism, communism, socialism, liberalism, progressivism, etc. In short, a new "ism" rises in popularity -- then people see it for what it is -- then a replacement "ism" comes along. At the root of all of them -- someone else owns the time of your life.
So, it seems to me that the left -- the slavery party -- is always just trying to return to their roots, and they can't say so out loud. Odd coincidence #2 -- the attacks on the Christians -- the people who actually succeeding in making slavery unacceptable in the open -- is it just a coincidence?
Now, let me acknowledge before someone blows a gasket -- the Jews tried more than once to overcome slavery -- they just didn't have the power to pull it off and the Romans made them pay dearly for trying. Other groups may have tried as well, but it was the Christians who pulled it off.

A major upgrade here is getting ampersands back.

Now you must restate this in the form of a complex equation.

I leave you with a thought exercise...
Does a clown's vagina feel funny?
Good night, ya'll.
Good morning, Vic.

Ahh crap. I was all set to blow a gasket. Now I can't. Oh well.. lol
It's a very interesting line of thought though, one I hadn't really considered before myself. Most of liberalism (and the vast majority of the other ism's you mentioned) are indeed based on the idea of making someone a slave, taking the fruits of their labors without their consent.
I think the thing that makes liberalism so insidious is this notion that those who do produce are morally obligated to become slaves to those that do not, and that should those that do produce object they are ridiculed, belittled, and attacked mercilessly. That somehow these attacks are morally justified. It's really an abhorrent philosophy when you stop and think about it.
As to Christianity, I think your quite correct in this regard. Personally one of my favorite takes on Christianity was offered by Douglas Adams.
""And then, one Thursday, nearly two thousand years after one man had been nailed to a tree for saying how great it would be to be nice to people for a change, one girl sitting on her own in a small cafe in Rickmansworth suddenly realized what it was that had been going wrong all this time, and she finally knew how the world could be made a good and happy place. This time it was right, it would work, and no one would have to get nailed to anything. "
Granted, Adams wasn't a Christian himself but every time I think about that it makes me laugh.

Lol.. well, as long as it doesn't involve another restraining order, I'm all for it..

I just checked at about #550. Someone about there used the word "gumption." One of my favorite words.
