Thank God it's Friday. Time to enjoy the weekend. So git yer drink of choice and let's get the ONT started.
OMG, someone Turned In Two Rocket Launchers for cash earlier this week in the Los Angeles gun buyback program. Funny thing is, those are empty, used launchers that are nothing more than nice souvenirs. They did publish an update after realizing how ridiculous it was to make it sound like folks are turning in live, ready to fire rocket launchers although they still try to make it sound like they could still be dangerous if only they were loaded with projectiles. These are fire and forget weapons. Once the weapon has been fired, they're discarded. They can't be reloaded.
Oh, BTW, you can Buy One if you want to.

Figured I'd change it up and instead of find the cat, Find The Giraffe, A Willow Ptarmigan, A Wolf, A Spectacled Caiman, An African Pika And More.
The Hobbit/Lord Of The Rings Metal Remix
Spiderman

So evidently Peter Parker will no longer be Spiderman and they've already tabbed who replaces him. I think I'd rather have Mary Jane take over based on these pictures.
Weapons
Just another reminder that evil deeds do not require guns. Tea Workers Burn Boss To Death.
On Wednesday, around 700 workers armed with bows and poison-tipped arrows surrounded the house and set it on fire, trapping the couple.
I wonder if longbows were used?
Enterprise vs Enterprise

So which is better? The Starship Enterprise Or The USS Enterprise (CVN 65/80)?
Crazy Lawsuits
Teh stoopid. It burns. America's 9 Craziest Lawsuits of 2012.
5. The frat brother injured by a rocket fired from a fellow brother's anus
A West Virginia college student is suing his fraternity, alleging that he fell off a deck when a drunken frat brother fired a bottle rocket out of his own anus. Louis Helmburg III alleges that Travis Hughes's bottle-rocket stunt so startled him that he jumped back and fell. "Firing bottle rockets out of one's anus," the lawsuit states, "constitutes an 'ultrahazardous' activity."
Yeah, being drunk had nothing to do with it I'm sure.
2012 US Army Photos
Some really great shots in the Best US Army Photos Of 2012. Alas, somehow SCOAMF friggin' made it into 2 pictures. Go figure.
Scientific Research
The 12 Dumbest Uses Of Research Dollars In 2012. I'm sure this is just the tip.
2. We all want to date a hottie-Both men and women unconsciously desire a sexually attractive partner, a study released in January found....and I thought Helen Thomas had a long line of suitors and Mila Kunis was lonely....who knew?

Well hey aren't reloded with the same rocket but the Viet cong would make booby traps from them since they were lying around on the jungle floor. They are the right size o keep the spoon in place on a grenade. They would load them with several grenades and hook a tripwire across the path that made he tube go from horizontal to vertical and boom.

IIRC, they will fire a 9mm blank. But no way can you use them with any projectile.

This is why you need to discuss all of this with your doc. He should have written you a scrip for a dosepak, which includes somewhat less meds but a serious early hard hit and then taper off. Your scrip sounds like about 12 times that dose, and it will cause all kinds of nasty to occur, like you won't crap for a month but you will retain water like the Hoover Dam. Next time ask the doc if he/she has taken that dose before and how he handled the side effects. Honestly.
Talk the to pharmacist and see if it should be somewhat adjusted toward reality.

I get to work at 4pm. The office is dark- lights off, TV off, everyone has already gone home for the holiday weekend. I have no assigned duties because the new office in Houston is doing everything. The phones are all forwarded to Houston. It's a 5 story building with me, a security guard, and the cleaning ladies.
I go out for a smoke after 90 mins and find I am locked out. My electronic key access has been deactivated, because it's my last day as an employee. At that point, I realized The Company already considered me gone.
So I walk all the way around to the front of the bldg and pound on the door til the guard lets me in. He escorts me to my office (cuz it's a secure area and I cant get in anymore). I log off, turn off the lights, give the guard my dead e-key and parking permit, and go home.
Anti-climactic in the extreme.

Well, I got the duck-hunting version with the long vent-rib barrel. That's not scary. With an 18.5" rifle-sight barrel, +2 mag tube and bayonet mount, it will be utterly terrifying. In stock form, it's a 12 gauge shotgun that would blow your head clean off, but with these Evil Features, it will be a 12 gauge shotgun that would blow your head clean-er off-er.

Muzzle loaders and replicas thereof would fall under the relics/curios classification. For a 105/155 or 5" Naval gun you'd need to jump through some BATF hoops, but they're legal if you got the right paperwork. There's specific ammo storage requirements though, and most residential homes won't meet them.

Its easy to quote lines from Star Wars. A lot of times it was someone saying 'I got a bad feeling about this.' Or the dialog was stolen from other movies. The entire trench run on the Death Star, go look at the British film 'The Dambusters' and you will literally hear the same dialog in some cases.

I'm giving Clarkson some leeway because he hates Piers Morgan with the heat of a thousand suns and he's saying so on Twitter.
The 84-86 Fieros looked a little too much like the Triumph TR-7 and weren't much better quality. The 87-88 versions were quite nice to look at however.
The Firebirds were quite nice looking and the Camaros weren't bad either, and the RX-7 was one of the better looking 80s cars
That said, most of the 80s vehicles of all makes looked boxy. I blame Lee Ioccoca and the K-Cars

I dislike the Chiefs perhaps even more than the Raiders, but this shouldn't happen to anybody's home town team. It's ugly here.

At least they have ownership that listens to fans demanding change. The Jets have to suffer with Woody Johnson probably retaining Mike Tannenbaum and Rex Ryan, which means busting the salary cap to sign a QB who they won't start because Rex doesn't want to admit he made a mistake drafting Mark Sanchez

Think about it. Put a 6 year old girl on the stand, even as video tape with a therapist, a jury of 12 will find for the plaintiff even when showed the girl's family is a bunch of heroin smoking demons from an Islamic hell. So I fully expect the sued parties to settle out of court. Which will breed more lawsuits. And more settlements because its not the government's own money they are paying out, but taxpayer money.

If my husband and I were rich, we'd love to have a business where we could hire all the teens from our church for the summer. Jackson, in a brief written statement, said Thursday she is leaving the EPA after four years on the job, for "new challenges, time with my family and new opportunities to make a difference."
The agency did not offer an explanation. But Chris Horner, a senior fellow at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, said the scrutiny over the alias emails is clearly a factor.
"Life's full of coincidences, but this is too many," he told FoxNews.com. "She had no choice."
Horner and CEI earlier this year had sued the EPA for documents pertaining to Jackson's use of alias email accounts. She was said to operate under the name "Richard Windsor" -- the use of those accounts has since drawn the scrutiny of Republican members of Congress, as well as triggered an audit by the EPA inspector general.
According to court documents, the EPA -- represented by the Justice Department -- two weeks ago agreed to release as many as 12,000 emails pertaining to the CEI request beginning by Jan. 14, at a rate of 3,000 documents per month. The court accepted the schedule last week.
Horner said the increased scrutiny on the alias account, coupled with what those emails might contain regarding the administration's alleged "war on coal," likely contributed to Jackson's announcement Thursday.

The insurance companies take money up front in exchange for promising to pay out later if certain contingencies occur. But like all other rich bastards, once they get the money, they don't want to part with it, even if those contingencies occur. They use all kinds of dirty tricks to try to weasel out of paying. In doing so, they're trying to weasel out of contracts. When insurance companies get away with it, they're undermining freedom of contract, which is repugnant to a real libertarian.

To tell you the truth, after owning a company for 25 years, I sure as hell like the insurance companies a hell of a lot more than plaintiffs' attorneys. When you get sued by someone because an employee did something away from work, on his own time, that wasn't even involving your company, but your company is a "big name" in town, and the plaintiff's lawyer knows that you will settle because it will cost X$ to hire attorneys, and they know you will settle for X-1$.

RT: It took both of you almost five years to produce this series. And in it you have a chapter called Obama: Management of a Wounded Empire. You give a harsh critique of the Obama administration. What in your eyes has been the most troubling aspect of his presidency, Oliver?
Oliver Stone: I think under the disguise of sheep’s clothing he has been a wolf. That because of the nightmare of the Bush presidency that preceded him, people forgave him a lot. He was a great hope for change. The color of his skin, the upbringing, the internationalism, the globalism, seemed all evident. And he is an intelligent man. He has taken all the Bush changes he basically put them into the establishment, he has codified them. That is what is sad. So we are going into the second administration that is living outside the law and does not respect the law and foundations of our system and he is a constitutional lawyer, you know. Without the law, it is the law of the jungle. Nuremburg existed for a reason and there was a reason to have trials, there is a reason for due process – ‘habeas corpus’ as they call it in the United States.

The lawsuit was filed in US District Court in San Diego last week against Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO), which is owned by the Japanese government.
Plaintiffs include the infant daughter of two of the sailors who was born seven months after the March 2011 disaster.
The sailors served on the San Diego-based aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan, which was carrying out Operation Tomadachi ferrying food and water to citizens in the city of Sendai in the wake of the earthquake and tsunami.
The sailors claim the Japanese government repeatedly said there was no danger to the carrier crew "all the while lying through their teeth about the reactor meltdowns" so rescuers would "rush into an unsafe area".

As the woman's family prepared to fly her body home from Singapore, Delhi's top police officer today urged people to mourn her death peacefully.
Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar requested people maintain calm across the city, according to a statement from his office that also announced that the area around the India Gate monument and 10 metro stations would be closed to the public.
The measures to limit protests came as Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said he was deeply saddened by the death of the 23-year-old woman and that the protests that erupted in the aftermath of her assault were "understandable".
"I am deeply saddened to learn that the unfortunate victim of the brutal assault that took place on December 16 in New Delhi has succumbed to the grievous injuries she suffered following that attack," he wrote on his website.
"We have already seen the emotions and energies this incident has generated. These are perfectly understandable reactions from a young India and an India that genuinely desires change.
"I want to tell them (her family) and the nation that while she may have lost her battle for life, it is up to us all to ensure that her death will not have been in vain."
India has been rocked by mass protests since the woman was assaulted on a bus in New Delhi by a group of six men.

The worst one happened a few years ago here. An elderly couple set up a day care at their house, the husband was out mowing the lawn, and while backing down a hill, ran over and killed a little boy that was at the daycare. The daycare owners were sued. Then Lowe's who sold the mower was sued. Then the manufacturer was sued. The daycare owner didn't even buy it at Lowes, he bought it from a salvage yard. At the trial, the lawyers said that the mower didn't have a safety feature that would disengage the blade when backing up, the manufacturer stated that feature hadn't even been invented when that mower was manufactured. And by the way, that mower had been salvaged and repaired by the owner and he made it dangerous.
Long story short, the daycare owners were a sympathetic older couple that the parents "loved", so they were dropped from the suit right before the jury's verdict. Lowes was dismissed by the judge because they were not even the middleman. The manufacturer had a $2 million verdict delivered against it. Every attorney in town was stunned by it, and after that the ones that I am friends with all say that they don't trust any jury to actually deliver the "proper verdict" anymore.

I'm surprised that doesn't happen more especially in domestic cases.
It does. The first job I got out off college was a law firm that had a partner killed by a disgruntled x husband who then committed suicide. Right there in the corner office. Then there was the wife beater, and on and on and on. An this is a fairly small town.
Posted by: Infidel at December 28, 2012 08:51 PM (QI2hh)
First, 2 serious questions: 1) how much, as a percentage, does your company insurance premium increase if you are sued and there is an out-of-court settlement, and 2) if you end up in court, does it matter if you win or lose?
Then some things, perhaps personal: If the plaintiff gets money, once their lawyer gets his cut, 1) do they ever feel like they've been ripped-off, and 2) do they ever come after you?
Posted by: Arbalest at December 29, 2012 12:23 AM (7tmA9)
Depends on the settlement. Ours went up, but it was close to what the annual increases had been. As for losing in court, that depends on the policies that you have in place for your company. When the attorney for the insurance company came in, she was quite pleased with all of our policies, and how well we had them spelled out. The employee "resigned" when we were sued, and the insurance company made some recommendations that we implemented.
As for the plaintiff's feeling like they got ripped off by their attorneys, yeah they did. Totally different company I was part owner of went out of business a few years ago. We helped the 5 employees still working at the time find new jobs. The manager had a one year contract that we told him we would honor. And we did. 2 months after closing, he demanded the full year right then and there. We said no, and by the way, we helped you get your new job. So we get sued, and we decided at that point, we would stop paying until the court decided it. We owed him about 50K in total compensation at the time he sued in November of 2004. The case was finally settled in May of 2008 for $5000. He lost all of it since the law firm just wanted something to get it off their books. I think he ended up getting nothing.
As for them coming after us, nope. Once their is a settlement, it is filed with the court, and judges get real pissed at things like that.
Bonus business legal tip for morons: Always be respectful and polite to judges in court. They do remember, and they appreciate it because most people act like shits in court.
Bonus legal tip #2, If you can't recall something, say that. Don't try to answer with a bullshit answer because that will come back to haunt you. When I went through the lawsuit with the employee, the company closed down 3 days after I had back surgery, so I was looped up on painkillers for a couple weeks after. At the depositions they would ask about things I had discussed with him during those weeks, and I had no idea, and since I was on pain killers, I wasn't liable for anything I said. When I said what I was on, his attorney stopped the questions, mine starting chuckling.

Sometimes they do, but in Virginia, appellate judges don't like to do it to jury verdicts. Most of the judges were appointed when the Dems had power in Virginia which pretty much just ended about 15 years ago.

But now we're told their expiration will result in a tax increase for **everyone**.
Obama is saying, "the most important thing we can do is make sure that **middle class taxes** do not go **up** on Jan. 1."
But if **middle-class tax rates** went DOWN under Bush, and middle class taxes will go UP on Jan 1, then why did the Dems lie in BushÂ’s day by saying only "the rich" benefited???
This will not end well. We should thank the Founders on bended knee for the 2nd amendment, for it is all that stands between a free republic and Obama's Tyranny---and the slimey little fuck knows it.

Juries aren't as bad as their reputation, at least in my experience. A lot of it just comes down to the quality of the lawyering.
The THREAT of a jury is a big incentive to settle, though.
Posted by: Cicero (@cicero) at December 29, 2012 12:34 AM (1bYaK)
The juries here are some of the most sympathetic in the country. A very big shitload of Norfolk Southern's worker comp cases are done here in Roanoke because of our juries' reputation for being anti-business and anti-insurance.

Wavy Arrows was the nickname for the unit (20th Enginners)--Wavy sounded better than "Crooked" (the engineers were experts at procurement and petty thievery, BIRM). My grandfather was in North Africa, Italy, Normandy on D-Day, the Rhine--I think about the only thing they missed out on was the Ardennes, but his brother was there in the 101st.

Had an 8 inch poisonous blue-black centipede crawl between my toes once in Japan, while I was sitting on the tatami.
I flicked it off, but not before it got in a quick bite. Not too bad, but a full load will swell your limb up. I was lucky.
During summers you would find them in sinks, soap dishes, bathtubs and damp places.
