The worst part of the whole "fiscal cliff" nonsense isn't the increase in taxes.
It's that Barack and our idiots in Congress will do next to nothing to cut spending.

Being an NRA member infuriates all the right people, but their constant marketing of all kinds of other stuff (selling your name into mailing and mass marketing lists) is kind of annoying to the members, so I am told.
My ex-BIL told me that had a great rate for Life Insurance (term life) for members. But that was about 30 years ago.

If you can swing both, I'd go that way. NRA is much bigger, and has more clout, even though they did endorse Harry Reid. This was done, I believe, because they see issues, rather than politicians.
Goa seems to be the prime challenger here, so membership in both orgs in my opinion would be desirable.

The English think that Americans are all "Yanks", which notion will certainly amuse all the Southrons out here.
The English also think that Americans are stupid, ignorant and "insular" (seriously, I heard this exact insult in public school, spoken without irony).
This juxtaposition amuses me on account that the English actually created the Yanks and the Southrons as separate people (exiled Roundheads and Cavaliers-by-way-of-Caribbean, respectively, leaving aside the Scots-Irish). So if anyone should know the difference, it is the English.
I actually agree that (most) Americans are stupid. But most English are at least as stupid. Your shit is all retarded, true, but the English talk like fags and their shit is all retarded.

I've read that the closest modern accent to English of 300 years ago is the modern southern accent.
After the Revolutionary war the American south had fewer connections to England then most of the parts of the Anglosphere, and as the English accent evolved it influenced the British colonies and the American northeast more.

My biggest beef with Idiocracy is that it seems to pin the blame on genetics - the productive don't have kids and the incompetent do.
The problem is the culture. Instead of lionizing the productive, we demonize them. Modern American culture glorifies rap thugs, pedophile Hollywood elites, and corrupt "populist" politicians.

OK, I don't do the public much. So a 10 day trip to S America was an eye opener.
People in Argentina are a lot more polite that here. There are NO thugs, AKA democrats with hip hop shit. Their kids don't cry or run around like unleashed dogs. It is America 1960, before everyone was only interested in themselves and no one else.
I get back to USA, flying out of Newark. I really wanted to puke. EVERYONE was rude. The TSA, the airline staff, the flight attendants.
MOSTLY the fucking people. When did we stop having any sense of politeness?
Why do people think I want to listen to them talk on their phone? Why do people that buy cheap tickets get upset when they have no space for their carry on. Grown men should not get upset over $50 for luggage.
Why do people go out in public looking like they just got out of jail, OK it was Newark, so many halve of them did just get out of jail.
Babies? So why can parents in S America keep their fucking kids quiet and no one in the USA can?
We are so boned. We are tolerating such anti social behavior that it feeds on it's self. He's an asshole, OK I'll be an asshole.
There are NO grown ups to stop this. Sure wouldn't want to be accused of racism or something because I told the thug to STFU.

But...when, or if the shit hits the fan, dropping by your favorite gun store to pick up some brass and powder will be a thing of the past. You'll be scavenging burned out APCs and digging up craters to find ammo.

Yeah, I fly a lot lately, and you can tell when it's a business flight (certain times of the day) and when it's full of "normal people" traveling.
Most regular business travelers are fairly polite, more "normal" travelers are a mess. Yeah, and people dress like slobs, too.
I was on a long international flight home to the US a few months ago, and sat near the back of the plane. When I walked out (nearly last one), it was unbelievable what a mess the rest of the passengers had made of the plane. It was a pig sty.

Oh, the idea has been around for a while - it seems to have cropped up with the Progressive movement - see Oliver Wendell Holmes's comment in Buck v. Bell that the state can sterlize people against their will because "Three generations of imbeciles are enough".
The idea leads to repugnant actions when put into practice as both the Western and German Progressives showed.

My wife and I shake our heads every time we go out to do our shopping on Saturdays. We usually hit the grocery store at about 5pm, and the amount of people we see in their pajamas is fucking unbelievable. Almost as unbelievable was seeing teenagers and young adults in their pj's on Christmas Eve at our church's Midnight service.
But sadly, I saw this kind of behavior 20 years ago when a dj I worked with at a radio station would wear the same shirt every day for a week. Not washed, just picked up off the floor and put back on. By Friday, he had crumbs and shit on it from the previous week, and his sloppy attire was definitely a reflection on his sloppy work ethic.

I can't find a reference that it is a remake of Led Zeppelin's song; the initial lyrics don't match at least. They did perform as Zep's warm up band in 1970 or so.

So endeth a rock history lesson.

Don't get me wrong, I'll wear some permanent press khakis for three days or so.
Usually the smell of beer on them makes me wash them.
I don't know if you remember the story about German soldiers. NATO required them to change their underwear every week. That was thought of as a real improvement. Da Huh
Posted by: Billy Bob, the 1% at December 29, 2012 11:22 PM (wR+pz)
I have some micro fiber khakis that I can wear for over week, and the damn things never get dirty or smell. BUT, this guy would wear a shirt that he spilled his food on, constantly. So by the end of the week, it was covered in food. And he ate constantly. He was the morning DJ, and he was never asked by the salespeople to do paid appearances because of his appearance.
Wearing a 5 day old shirt on a body that hasn't showered in 24 hours doesn't make for a pleasant experience in a confined radio control room.

Back! Sorry for jumping in with my own shit, but had another Tale of the Supermarket, yesterday afternoon. 5 pm, rush hour at Safeway. Fuckin' white trash baby momma (sans baby) using 8 different coupons, EBT card, what-the-fuck-have-you. The people behind her back out of line when they see what's up, but I, as usual, figure this is gonna be better than the 6 deep lines elsewhere. WRONG! Holy hell. Each transaction takes for fucking ever. Already had my stuff loaded on the belt, so I stayed, and gave the glare. She looked totally upright and able-bodied to me, albeit morbidly obese. Why can't people feed their own GD kids, anymore? Oh, and BTW, the last 6 transactions were for 8 each of strained baby foods. Which would have cost about 5% of the price if she had just bought real food and mashed it up. Oh for fuck's sake.
Sorry. Had to get it out! Thank God I didn't follow her out to her Escalade, like last time this happened to me. I can imagine that she climbed into her beater Tercel. Yeah.

Important safety tip for those going out on New Years Eve from a friend of mine who is a State Trooper. When you are on a divided highway at night, stay in the right lane, do not stay in the passing lane. He told me almost every drunk driver fatality he sees are from the drunk going down the road in the wrong direction without his headlights on. By the time you see him/her, it's too late.

Plenty of drunks out at noon on a Monday. I meet my mom for lunch every week, and at one of the places we eat there are always a group of older women having a few glasses of wine with lunch, and these are big glasses of wine, and women in their 60's and 70's. I have a hunch that's why Piers wrote that. If you read the article its chock full of the leftist bullshit and PM claiming that he's not really against the Second Amendment. Then he plays the military relatives card, galling in that he was fired for publishing fake pictures claiming atrocities by Brit troops.
If Piers Morgan and The Truth were in the same room, they'd have to be introduced.

One of the last times I went out partying on New Year's Eve was about 22 years ago. I was double dating with another couple and he was driving. He made the turn onto a divided highway but didn't make it to the correct way, he went the wrong way, but he realized in about 20 feet into it and drove across the median to get to the other side. Since that night, if we go out, I don't drink at all, and we are at home by about 11pm.
Sorry if I freaked you out, but in the last few years, I have had to start doing all the defensive driving techniques that I was taught 30+ years ago. People have gotten real bad driving especially ignoring traffic lights, stop signs, and "directional arrows" painted on the pavement and on signs at stoplights.

Posted by: kbdabear at December 30, 2012 12:48 AM (wwsoB)
I think if Piers and The Truth were in the same room, Piers would go running out of that room like a little bitch.
I love that Clarkson is calling him out on his bullshit since it appears that Top Gear seems to be the only "conservative" show on BBC.
I may have to rethink that and add Gordon Ramsey to that because he doesn't give a shit for people's excuses and seems to reward those who work hard.

Flew out to Boston for a class. Picked up the rental (not a drop to drink) well they have six lane fucking city streets and I went the wrong way. Saw headlights and jumped the median. The point is they cut curbs from granite and it cut the tire so there was heavy drinking once I arrived finally at my hotel room.

That flesh is heir to, 'tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish'd. To die, to sleep;
To sleep: perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub;

If I let the Dems be the reason why I am happy or sad, I would have been miserable my whole life. Dems have been in control of my city for about 40 years, they were in control of my state for most of my life, and have been in control in DC for about half of my life. I do not give them control over my emotions, so they do not have control over me.

I saw a show yesterday called The United States of Bacon. Wow. Had to change up the dinner plans.
And I have been neglectIng the Kroger card at the pump. Had to fill up the other day and used it. I paid 99 cents a gallon. Bill was $15.65 for a full fill up. Remember those days?

Did almost the same thing today, but I only got the gas for $1.35. It has been many years since the gas digits were moving at the same speed as the dollar digits. $25 bucks to gas up the Grand Cherokee felt awfully good.
We have gotten to the point where we go to Kroger and get the gift cards for dinners, shopping, and other things so that we get the 4X gas points. That was how we were able to get the $1.80 a gallon off this month. Used the cards for Christmas shopping and Christmas gifts.

there is no telling how much longer QEinfinity will be able to mask our true economic weakness. when it does, then we will be truly boned. if we don't have anything solid to fall back upon, then we won't even be the world's reserve currency anymore.

Not everyone gets to witness the death of an empire. In my lifetime, I've seen the final nail driven into the British Empire's coffin, the collapse of the Soviet Union, and the USA effectively switch places with the Soviet Union.

1. Japan has been able to pull off this trick since about 1990. They have a debt to gdp ratio of about 200%. The point being, the Fed will probably be able to work their magic for a lot longer than people expect.
2. The US has quite a bit to fall back on: the USG has about 650 million acres of land it can sell, over 8 thousand tons of gold, some 750 million bbls of oil.
3. Not being the worlds reserve currency might not be all that bad. If the US wasn't the reserve currency, trade flows to the US from ROW would be more balanced. I'm skeptical though that it would happen without opec seriously moving in that direction, which would include liquidating US based and US dollar denominated assets in their sovereign wealth funds.

It is less than meets the eye. It'll be back.
@PurpAv-
I have a searching criticism of that. One the US hasn't "switched" places with the USSR. The USSR exported terror and misery in full measure worldwide and its collapse was one of the best things to happen to this world. The world is still suffering from the wounds of Cold War. The US is going through a period of economic and political weakness as we have done though other periods of our history. Just because the fashionable elite opinion today is decline and weakness doesn't mean that we can't or won't change course.
