It's the chart that makes liberals cry. They say it is unfair.
They say it proves nothing.
They say it is racist, sexist and taken out of context.
But mostly, they cry because they made the chart up and the chart is being used against them. Conservatives are making them eat the chart of "Unemployment Rate With and Without the Recovery Plan," which Barack Obama used to sell the $787 billion stimulus - the largest gamble ever made in the history of the world.
This was their chart.
Well I'm guessing a lot of people who voted for Obama now are wishing they could have foregone the entire Obama Recovery Plan - which has failed even by Obama's own standard - and just had a normal recession minus the $787 billion in new debt.
FemiNazis So Outraged at Limbaugh That They Act Like... Nazis
Jane Fonda, Gloria Steinem, and Robin Morgan want the FCC to take Rush Limbaugh off the air because they're so concerned about freedom of speech or something.
This isn't political. While we disagree with Limbaugh's politics, what's at stake is the fallout of a society tolerating toxic, hate-inciting speech. For 20 years, Limbaugh has hidden behind the First Amendment, or else claimed he's really "doing humor" or "entertainment." He is indeed constitutionally entitled to his opinions, but he is not constitutionally entitled to the people's airways.
Nope - it's a mystery why Rush would imply that they of all people might be like the Nazis. It's not like Jane's ever supported fascist national socialists before - oh wait...
And speaking of Nazis - nothing escaped their grasp and control - even the playing of Jazz:
1 Pieces in foxtrot rhythm (so-called swing) are not to exceed 20% of the repertoires of light orchestras and dance bands;
2 in this so-called jazz type repertoire, preference is to be given to compositions in a major key and to lyrics expressing joy in life rather than Jewishly gloomy lyrics;
...
5 strictly prohibited is the use of instruments alien to the German spirit (so-called cowbells, flexatone, brushes, etc.) as well as all mutes which turn the noble sound of wind and brass instruments into a Jewish-Freemasonic yowl (so-called wa-wa, hat, etc.);
For years the standard media (and liberal BIRM) critique of Ike was that he was 'dumb' and 'lazy'. But in fact he was quite smart and handled many issues quietly and without fanfare, demonstrating that competence and lack of ego can be mistaken for being boring and stupid.
He took over a nation at war, a people fearful of atomic holocaust and poisoned milk. He left office to a man who cried for more missiles and for shock troops to fight guerrilla wars by helicopter. . . Eisenhower had the true professional's instinct for making things look easy. He appeared to be performing less work than he actually did. And he wanted it that way. An air of ease inspires confidence. The singer's hard work should be done at home. On stage, the voice should soar as by natural gift.
The answer is simple: Eisenhower didn't conform to the post-Wilson, post-FDR liberal model of ideal presidents as "miracle workers," relentlessly "leading" the American people to new and distant places according to some abstract and ambitious "vision." In style and conduct (though not so much in policy), Ike was the anti-Wilson, the anti-FDR. Eisenhower conducted the presidency much more like a 19th century president, that is to say, more like how the Founders intended the office to be conducted.
Akrasia (ancient Greek ἀκρασία, "lacking command (over oneself)" ), occasionally transliterated as acrasia, is the state of acting against one's better judgement. The adjective form is 'akratic'.
Doing something bad for you even when you know it's bad for you.
Well thanks to a 2002 California state voting rights act judges will get to decide if Compton City Councilwoman Janna Zurita is 'Latina-enough' to represent her district.
In January, a judge ruled that a trial would be necessary to figure out whether Zurita could be considered Latina and whether that means Latinos have a voice on the council. The city settled the suit late last month. The legal gymnastics in Compton illustrate California's far-reaching law, which bars local governments from diluting the voting strength of minorities. The law has become the foundation of a burgeoning onslaught of legal threats that could upend the racial makeup of elected bodies throughout the state.
The U.S. Census doesn't provide clear answers, because it considers being Hispanic or Latino separate from race. On government forms, Zurita sometimes marks black, sometimes "other" and couldn't remember if she ever marked Latino.Adding to the confusion, Zurita later referred to her Spanish grandmother as Mexican. The attorney sought to clarify: "So she was from Spain, but her heritage was Mexican?"
Beyond Spotted Dick: The Story Behind English Cuisine
How, for two centuries, has a country with so many resources-creams and butters and handmade cheeses, a practice of grass-feeding sheep and cattle, wild fish, abundant game-produced such a spectacularly loathsome fare? ...The simple good ingredients were there: why weren't people using them?
English food didn't always suck. In fact it was considered quite good until the Victorians got hold of it.
Garlic fell out of fashion. The wonderful spices that had been a mainstay of English cooking since medieval times fell by the wayside. Instead, Victorian cooks, armed with their copy of "Mrs Beeton's Book of Household Management," came up with dreary dishes of brawn (head cheese) and mock turtle soup made with a calf's head, ham and a pound of butter; vegetables were over-boiled and limp.
Well it is a slippery slope from possessing a vajayjay to being a full citizen of Slutsville.
The Yahoo AoSHQ group. Bla bla bla.
And don't forget about the Job Bank.
And my twitter thang.

I made the mistake of looking up Act of Valor reviews yesterday after watching it.
Some of the libtard comments got me pretty mad - and the scary thing is that I'm not sure which of them are trolling, and which are sincere. I wish it were all trolling.. at least you'd have the comfort of knowing they're just being jerks to get a reaction and that they don't actually believe what they're saying.

Oh, hate is such a strong word. Hate Jane Fonda?
Deported is a better word. She should be deported to Hanoi, where she can live out the rest of her natural life. Or maybe Myanmar, another authoritarian hell-hole. That's what she prefers. I say give it to her, as much as she wants.
And Valerie Jarrett should be deported to Iran. That's so much more authentic for her.

This is Jane Fonda speaking from Hanoi. Yesterday evening Â… I had the opportunity of meeting seven U.S. pilots. Some of them were shot down as long ago as 1968 and some of them had been shot down very recently. They are all in good health. We had a very long talk, a very open and casual talk. We exchanged ideas freely. They asked me to bring back to the American people their sense of disgust of the war and their shame for what they have been asked to do.
"They told me that the pilots believe they are bombing military targets.
"They told me that the pilots are told that they are bombing to free their buddies down below but, of course, we all know that every bomb that falls on North Vietnam endangers the lives of the American prisoners.
"They asked me: 'What can you do?' They asked me to bring messages back to their loved ones and friends, telling them to please be as actively involved in the peace movement as possible, to renew their efforts to end the war.
"One of the men who has been in the service for many, many years has written a book about Vietnamese history, and I thought that this was very moving, that during the time he's been here, and the time that he has had to reflect on what he has been through and what he has done to this country, he has Â… his thought has turned to this country, its history of struggle and the people that live here.
"They all assured me that they have been well cared for. They listen to the radio. They receive letters. They are in good health. They asked about news from home.
"I think we all shared during the time I spent with them a sense of deep sadness that a situation like this has to exist, and I certainly felt from them a very sincere desire to explain to the American people that this is a terrible crime and that it must be stopped, and that Richard Nixon is doing nothing except escalating it while preaching peace, endangering their lives while saying he cares about the prisoners.
"And I think that one of the things that touched me the most was that one of the pilots said to me that he was reading a book called The Draft, a book written by the American Friends Service Committee [Quakers], and that in reading this book, he had understood a lot about what had happened to him as a human being in his 16 years of military service. He said that during those 16 years, he had stopped relating to civilian life, he had forgotten that there was anything else besides the military and he said in realizing what had happened to him, he was very afraid that this was happening to many other people.
"I was very encouraged by my meeting with the pilots [because] I feel that the studying and the reading that they have been doing during their time here has taught them a great deal in putting the pieces of their lives back together again in a better way, hopefully, and I am sure that when they go home, they will go home better citizens than when they left."

I saw Jane Fonda on some talk show a while back (it was probably on CNN or something), and I watched for just a few minutes to see what it was she was up to these days.
She's 74 years old, and still trying to pretend she is still the hot starlet of the 60's. Too much eye make-up, covering her wrinkles. Still the smarmy condescending attitude. She is so full of her own bullshit and self-importance she will never change.
When I think of those poor, gentle people that escaped from South Viet Nam and have made a life for themselves here, and then think about what she said about the boat people......well, I certainly hope there is some kind of retribution for a life lived walking all over other human in their high-heeled Pradas. I frankly hope she lives to be very old, and sees everything she's believed in come to be ridiculed, and dies a lonely painful death from some incurable debilitating disease with no one around her that gives a tinker's damn about what she once thought she was.

So, after spending all day Saturday and Sunday morning in a theater looking at powerpoint slides, we were split up into our assigned task forces. My TF rep was late, then pulled out all of the intel guys and told us to report to the headquarters building today at 0900. We show up and waited around in a conference room for an hour until another officer from JRTC shows up, apologizes for making us wait, and tells us to go home until they call us. Apparently they haven't figured out what they want to do with us for this rotation.
F it. I'm going to my dental appointment tomorrow morning, and I hopefully have an answer after that. If they are going to screw me out of terminal leave days, the least they could do is give me some sort of schedule to work with.

Probably a good idea to limit outrage to what's canned hyperbole. But at a minimum, the movie critic reviews with names behind them are genuine, and you definitely see some screwed up thinking. "propaganda"?
Personally, I enjoyed it because it's a war movie that does not have narcisstic navel-gazing, sophomoric "war is bad" rambling, and combat scenes that don't invoke Hollywood tactics.
If that's propaganda, we could use more of it over the typical Hollywood fare.

If you are a little young to have recollections of the Vietnam war and the fate of the POWs, go find John McCain's book (and various others) to find out what their lives were in the prisons. Jane may think they were reading Quaker books and writing reflective letters back home, but they were more often not merely mistreated by literally tortured, usually for no reason. Many suffered broken bones (some had the same bones broken intentionally more than once), they were beaten, often on a daily basis again for no particular reason. They had shoulders and elbows intentionally dislocated. They were malnourished and provided little or no medical care. Escape was nearly impossible (but read up on the case of Lance Sijan).
The North Vietnamese did not treat our people well until it became apparent they would be released. Jane Fonda was on their side.
Never forget.

Funny you should say that.
One of the running family jokes is that between the time I was baptized and the time my cousin was baptized, the Catholic church switched from Latin to English -- and, among other things, everyone found out what was being said. Turns out there's a lot of "get thee, Satan, away from this young lad and stay away" in there....fast forward a couple of decades, and my parents wryly note: "it looks like it worked better in Latin."

Practice, practice, practice.
And that means not only at the range, but in the house. Practice finding, cocking and dry firing in the dark, with your off hand, rolling out of bed, etc. *
Non-standard situations are pretty much all you will get when you need your weapon.
* Safety first of course.

What does it mean
that syndicator tells Rush's news/talk affiliates not to run barter spots for 2 weeks?
I have never listened to the guys
show, but this doesn't sound good.
http://www.radio-info.com/
Posted by: Tammy al Thor at March 12, 2012 10:32 PM (SsG4J)
Doesn't mean much. Barter spots are what a radio station runs in exchange for syndicated programming, which Rush's show is. The spots are delivered to the stations weeks in advance and scheduled according to the contract EIB has with the radio station. Since there was a change in some of Rush's sponsors, then those advertisers probably had their barter ads pulled too.
For example, since Carbonite pulled their ads from Rush's show, and EIB's contract with the radio stations calls for the barter ads to run during the 6a-9a time period, the Carbonite ad would that was part of the barter deal would run during that time period. Carbonite bails, so EIB is no longer contractually liable to run the spots.
Long story short, when Rush's new advertisers come on board, the EIB barter spots will be back.

Rabi received almost no attention relative to other Nobel Laureates, but made a huge contribution.
I'm not surprised that Eisenhower was highly intelligent. Imagine the balls it took Stevenson to run against him; doing so in essence said that Stevenson thought his judgment was more sound and more tested than that of the architect of D-Day.

My turn to play.
The Mossberg 590 series is nice, but it has one problem: it comes with only one barrel, the 18.5" cylinder model. The Mossberg 500 barrels will fit, but the tube mag must be changed, and it's usually installed with thread locker. Swapping tube mags makes the 590 a 500. It might be cheaper to buy a 500 (I did),and then pick yp the 24" rifled slug barrel, 18.5" cylinder (or 28" with Accuchoke, if the 500 came with the 18.5") .... and a .50cal RML barrel. If people need to know that you have something, a .50cal minie ball delivers a certain message that is rarely ignored. Naturally, the 18.5" cylinder bore barrel is the one kept on by default.
Automatics are nice, but there's something to be said for a .357 snubbie DA (use .38+P JHPs): it can be loaded, then stored for "later". Use is simple: grab it, aim and squeeze the trgger. No safeties to fool with, no springs to take a set, no racking, etc. "Later" can be seconds later, drawn from a belt holster, or maybe 30 years later (ammo life), drawn from a shelf in an emergency situation. No need to remember how to load or use the item ...

So, how unhinged are these people doing the property damage and attacking Wolverine? They obviously weren't there when the instigating events with Che's t-shirt began. Seems strange to me that people who weren't directly involved would be the ones doing the most vicious damage.

Penetration. Steel loses velocity quicker than lead. Candidly, though, the shot size is not critical at ranges under 10 feet. The pattern is so tight that it's like getting hit with a subsonic sledge hammer.

SOS:
Just passing the wisdom from my Field Training Officer (many moons ago) on to the next generation. As I mentioned to another member of the Horde, a newly minted police officer is given a badge and a gun and told, "Go forth and do great things."
However, the beat cop is given a great deal of authority and discretion; but, very little personal supervision. It gets easy to act like an a$$hole.
Well, signing off.

That makes sense.
And of course you are 100% correct about pattern size at short distances. There is probably some difference in energy between shot sizes, but a clump of shot is a clump of shot, regardless of how small or large the individual pellets are.

210 I guess tonight's episode would best be titled, "When Twilight Falls".
When I arrive at work this morning I find my cubicle already filled with a gaggle. We have representatives from Maintenance, the IT Department, my supervisor, and the Managing Director.
None of them look happy. Seems over the weekend someone took what looks to be the entire contents of a big gulp and poured it all over my monitor, my desk, and of course my computer.
The monitor and computer were completely fried. No hope of salvaging either. The managing director is there, she asks if I have time for a quick meeting. I look at her, look at my cubical, and say, "Yes, as it turns out it looks like I will have some free time this morning."
So we head to her office. She apologizes profusely, says she had thought she had made it clear to security to keep a closer eye on my cubical, but apparently they dropped the ball. I just shake my head. "Can't really blame them, they have a lot of ground to cover and unless they post someone there odds are good whoever is doing it will just wait till they leave."
So we chat for a bit, and she says, "Perhaps the best thing to do for now would be to move you off the production floor."
My response was simple. "I realize that this vandalism is costing the company money, and I do feel badly about that, but if at all possible I don't wish to be moved. Not off the floor, not even out of my cube."
She's a little surprised by this, and asks why. "Well, if I do get moved then whoever is doing this wins. I'd rather not see that happen. So if maybe IT can give me some of the old equipment, the stuff they were planning to surplus anyway - a CRT monitor, etc.. Well if at all possible I'd really like to stay right where I'm at. "
She gets it, right away - smart lady my MD. She says I'm right, I should stay right where I'm at. So we chat for a bit more about my Saturday at the police station, Wolverine, and a few other topics of interest. She's already sent an email to the security company praising him so much you'd think she wanted to adopt him. She showed me the email, I was quite impressed.
After a while I head back to my cube, the IT guy is still there - he's just finishing setting up my new system. Ok, for comparison purposes my old system was a 1.8 ghz dual core with a 17 inch LCD.
The one he's just finishing installing is an I5 with a 23 inch brand new LCD. I looked at him like he'd lost his ever loving mind.
"You do realize odds are good that someone is going to come along and trash this, right? I mean I'd be perfectly happy with something off the surplus shelf and an old CRT for now."
He just shakes his head and smiles. "Nope. Trust me. There is a method to my madness."
Ok, well, he's the IT guy. I think he's off his freaken rocker, but, he's the IT guy. So I let him do his thing, and about 15 minutes later I'm up and running. Rest of the morning is fairly uneventful, and thus we come to what has become my favorite part of the day, lunch.
As usual I find a nice secluded spot at an empty table and begin to enjoy my repast. I can see Che-boy and the che-bots at another table, close to the vending machines.
I'm too far way to hear them of course, but I can't help but notice that an argument ensues. Twilight Fan stands up, is waving her arms about in a very animated fashion, and apparently arguing with che-boy. I can see him shaking his head, not certain what the kerfuffle is all about.
She finally throws up her hands and leaves their table, making a bee-line straight towards me. She marches up to my table, and with no preamble says "I saw what they did to your computer. I thought it was funny. You deserved it. You know what? Your an ASSHOLE!"
I looked at her for a moment, then I tried my best to sound hurt when I responded, "Do you really think so?"
She stomped her little foot for emphasis. "Yes! I really think so - I really think your an Asshole!". A cold, vicious smile crossed her lips.
I paused for a moment, then smiled back. "So... I guess that means were not on for the prom anymore then?"
Her jaw fell open. I would describe the look I got as "deer in the headlights" but that really wouldn't do it justice. I would have to say it was more like "dear in the headlight - of an oncoming diesel train".
She stood for a moment longer - flabbergasted, then finally screamed at me in front of the entire lunch room. "You.. You FUCKING ASSHOLE! I FUCKING HATE YOU!" - then she turned and stormed out.
Just before she reached the door I called after her, "Ok. Nice chatting with you then. See you tomorrow."
She let out one of those frustrated, guttural noises that I've heard some women make on occasion and stormed out. It's not really a full fledged scream mind you, more of a cross between a scream and a grunt. Hard to describe, but funny as hell to see in front of a lunch room full of people. What can I say, she wasn't wrong. I am an asshole.
So I finish my lunch, che-boy and the rest of the che-bots stay firmly rooted at their table. I must admit I'm a little disappointed. Our little lunch room chats have become the highlight of my day, after all.
So I head over to the vending machine right next to wear they are sitting, grab a Mt. Dew for my afternoon, turn to che-boy and ask conversationally, "So, how's the petition going?"
He looks up at me and says, "What?".
"Your petition, you know - the one you were circulating here at work. Just wondering how it's going."
He gets a cold smile on his face as well. "You wouldn't believe how many signatures we have."
I smile back. "Well, that's great! Congratulations. You'll be Queen of France at no time at this rate. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help."
Then I turn and walk away to a table full of stunned silence.
So, afternoon goes fairly smoothly, no problems. New system is faster than hell and the monitor is huge, reminds me of my home setup. The thought of it getting trashed makes me sick - but not my call. I'll just have to leave that in IT's capable hands. Even if they are out of there ever-loving minds.
So my last break comes, I head outside for my customary afternoon smoke. As I'm out there a young lady comes up to me that I've seen maybe once or twice, I know she works the second shift but I don't really know her name.
"So your the guy, right?"
I smile. I know what she means. "Yup. I'm the guy. Might not want to stand too close."
She laughs, a little nervously. Then she lowers her voice and says, "You know, my husband and I are both registered republicans."
I smile again, and let her continue. "I have to be honest, before all of this I didn't really even know who Che was - I mean I've seen the T-shirts, but I really had no idea."
"I know. A lot of people don't. What's worse is the kid wearing it had no idea who Che was either. If people really knew, they'd never be able to sell one of those things again."
She nodded, turned as if she were going to head into the building, and then she turned back again and asked, "I know that you eat lunch alone now. That most people don't even talk to you because their afraid to get involved. I hope you don't mind if I ask, was it worth it?"
I just smiled. "For me? Absolutely it was worth it. See, last week a great man named Andrew Breitbart died. I could spend hours telling you about him, you may have even heard of him already. But one thing I can tell you is that if Andrew had one goal in life, it was to make so people like you and I would never have to lower our voices in public when we say that were conservatives, or republicans. So yes.. for me, it was worth it."
She smiled, grasped my hand, and then hurried into the building.
So, back to work, I finish up for the day - I've got about 5 minutes left and a security guard shows up at my desk.
Wolverine of course has the day off, so I get this guy. I'm going to call him Guido - trust me, it will all become clear in very short order.
Guido is about 6 feet tall and apparently spends every waking moment either at the gym, or preening himself, or perhaps preening himself at the gym. He has the spiked hair, the gold chain around his neck, a security shirt that's about one size to small so he looks appropriately bulgy.
Worse, yet, he insists on speaking with a fake Brooklyn accent.
I look up at him, and he asks, "Are youse ready to go?"
I give him a look that will melt steel. "No, I am not. And I suggest you go to the security desk and wait. I refuse to be perp walked off the production floor."
He looks at me, a little surprised. "I'm supposed to take youse to yer car."
If anything, my look darkens. "I will meet you at the security desk in 5 minutes. You will not escort me off the floor. That is final."
So, Guido finally gets the hint and leaves. Five minutes later I'm down at the security desk, the security supervisor is at the desk and so is Guido. I get there, and in what can only be termed as a completely oblivious fashion, Guido pipes up with, "Well, I guess youse probably feel a lot better having me walk you out than Napoleon."
I looked at him and said, "Who?"
"You know, Napoleon. I call him that because he reminds me of Napoleon Dynamite." Of course, he's referring to Wolverine.
Ok folks, I'm known for being a pretty cool customer, but I must admit it, I lost it.
I turned to Guido and explained his situation, in no uncertain terms. "If I ever hear you, or anyone else call him that ever again, the only thing that is going to beat your sorry ass to the hospital is the headlights of the ambulance your on."
Then I turned to the security supervisor at the desk, and explained his situation to him, "Don't you ever send this Jersey Shore reject to escort me anywhere, ever again."
Then I turned back to Guido. "You can park it right here, I'll escort myself to my car."
And thus ended my Monday.

236 "Twilight has admitted to you (with other witnesses) that she witnessed the vandalism. Sounds like something the MD ought to know about. Name names or it's walking papers time."
Well she admitted she saw my workstation and it was vandalized, she hasn't really admitted she was there when it happened. Truth is I doubt she was, she works pretty much the same schedule as I do, M-F days, the vandalism happened sometime either Saturday night or Sunday - As it was fine Friday when I left.
But no worries, I have a feeling her days are pretty numbered as it is, which is fine by me, because apparently I already have a date for the prom.
Lol

237 "SOS, were there no repercussions from Twilight Fan's lunch room tirade? She said she was happy your computer was destroyed. Surely HR can't be pleased that she approves of destroying company property?"
Lol.. well I didn't really report it to HR myself, someone else may have, who knows - but I haven't as of yet. Honestly the last thing I want for right now is yet another meeting with HR - it would be nice to get through one entire day this week where I'm not in a meeting discussing this shit with somebody.. lol
Posted by: StuckOnStupid at March 12, 2012 10:00 PM
263 "The company has got to be getting pissed about the property damage. I hope there is a camera in your new set up and I hope the vandals strike again. It's really amazing that they are stupid and brazen enough to keep trashing company property given the high visibility (MD send out an email to your entire group), police involvement, Wolverine sent to the hospital in an ambulance, etc. "
It is a bit bizarre, but when someone suggested Twilight Fan might be the culprit I realized that both times - first the monitor and then the monitor and workstation both - well both occurred over a weekend. I work days during the week, and so does Twilight fan, Che-boy and the che-bots.
You have to swipe your security badge to get onto the production floor, so if they had come in over the weekend, well there would be a record of it - and I'm assuming that the company would have caught that already. So it has to be someone that works over the weekend, and on the evening shift.
No clue who that might be - maybe some friend of group I don't know about perhaps? But if folks are right and that new monitor has a webcam, I have a feeling someone is going to be in a world of hurt real quick.

Back when pistols were made of metal, Beretta made the sweetest little ones, except for a few very old Colts. The finish is like jewelry. Now, almost everyone will tell you that no .22 makes it as a defense round, but I have the even more laughable .25 in a tiny Beretta, because I'm an Ian Fleming fan, that's what he had Bond carrying originally, and I just wanted to have it. It's like a tie clip, or cufflinks. Elegant, reliable, accurate as any tiny pistol can be, and I'd never stake my life on it. It's the gun you carry to places where you can't carry a gun.
The Beretta .32 noted above is just as well-finished. There is also a .380. If you practice quite a lot and still find you can't bear any recoil at all, I'll commit the heresy of saying the .22 long is better than nothing. The usual compromise is the KelTec PMR-30, .22 magnum, that has a lot more power and very little more rebound than .22. It's ugly, though.
Once you get past the flannel and chewing tobacco, shopping for a used gun is not unlike shopping for shoes. You should poke around gun shows -- you really do meet nice people there -- and get a feel for what's available in used Berettas in .32 or .380. All newer pistols lack the tuxedo appeal of the older, smooth-finish semis. Styles change.

I'm with you. The Mossy is certainly capable, but the 870 is a better manufactured piece of hardware. The Mossberg is totally capable for anything involving home defense, but cannot be a great clays / wing-shooting shotgun. The 870 can, and can do anything the Mossy does.

The high point pistols are reliable... I prefer the simplicity of a revolver as someone said above pick it up and pull the trigger. If it misfires pull the trigger again.

When I look at equipment that I'd consider purchasing, assuming that it meets whtever minimum specifications I set, I sometimes look more at reliability than performance.
I'm inclined to believe that the Remingtons are perhaps better performers, as they do seem to have slighly better fit and finish. But for reliability ... the AK-47 is built to much looser tolerances than the M-16, but it also jams less easily, and requires much less maintenence. The M-16 is a bit more lethal: more accurate, better ballistics and terminal ballistics, etc., but ... it it jams ...
I also limit what I can have ... 5 shotguns,8 rifles? Money, storage space, ammuition, ... maybe 2 and 4 are better numbers, so no Weatherby, no M1A, ...

For all around reliability I don't think you can do better than the M-1 Garand or it's sister, the M-14. Carried both and loved them.

Money, storage space, ammuition, ... maybe 2 and 4are better numbers, so no Weatherby, no M1A, ...
Posted by: Arbalest at March 12, 2012 11:59 PM (ESP4W)
The mini 14 will shoot forever without jamming and the newer models are better in the accuracy dept. That's my SHTF gun.

Someone really should explain to Fonda that people in the entertainment industry are the ones who have turned our culture into a sewer. So for them to demand that people who call others "slut" shouldn't be allowed on the airwaves is disingenuous. Her own industry is a big part of the problem.
This is on a par with people in the entertainment industry being anti-gun. I mean, who has made more money glorifying gun violence than the entertainment industry?

so, holy ****, i head over to the ONT for the first time in a while to see what's happening, and I start reading about this SoS saga ... an hour later, that's all i have to say, holy ****. SoS, you're amazing!
Oh, and evening, all!
Chemjeff, I feel your pain about the texting stuff. I can't believe I'm at a point where I actually miss the depth of meaning one could convey via email... if it were up to me, we'd still be writing letters. I love those collections of yellowing love letters from their youth you see some older couples keeping, what are we gonna have in fifty years, thumb drives?
I also have a relationship question if anyone is still around. This is more of a general question, and it's kinda racist so it's perfect for the ONT. It's sort of a 'you always want what you can't have' type thing, so I think I know the answer, maybe I just need to hear it from smart military commenters. So, I kinda have a thing for strong independent conservative women (shocking, I know), and these are few and far between when dealing with 22 year old blue state city girls (even more shocking, I know). Add in the desire for a Jewish girl (so my mom doesn't kill me), and the odds go down to near zero. In my class of 160, there's exactly one openly conservative girl, and she's engaged and very not Jewish, so yeah. But, and this is weird to say but I swear it's true, the Asian girls, they really like me. You know the type, write emails full of emoticons and little hearts, but very decent and kind and devoted, strong family values, and completely apolitical. So my question is, I'm 27, still young but not getting younger, should I abandon my quest for the great white whale and embrace my eastern destiny? Maybe I can brainwash them with Breitbart videos. And yeah I know Rum is the answer to all my prayers but I don't make enough to be a sugar daddy.

Related rant: looking at my parents' and grandparents' generation, it was pretty much taken for granted that everyone was at least centrist, and generally most people were right wing in the whole 'hating commie guts' sense, and if for some perverse reason you wanted to get involved with a very liberal anti-American girl, you pretty much had to go to communist summer camp. But today, probably not an exaggeration to say that 90% plus of the girls I know are currently convinced that the republicans are waging a war on their birth control and that Obama is dreamy and here to save them. F-ing liberal culture and its march through the institutions drives me up the wall sometimes. God Bless Breitbart.

Darth Vader was entirely correct when he said that. The Empire came into being almost simultaneously with Leia's birth. It was the only Federal-equivalent government she'd ever known. Whether they were nice guys or not is beside the point. Although Lucas never gave much in the way of any reasons the Empire was bad. Nobody seemed particularly oppressed or deprived.

What actually happened to Owen and Beru.
The deleted scene you might be thinking of didn't really say much about the Empire. It established that Luke was very low on the pecking order of the local youth, who nicknamed him 'Wormy.' In spite of this, BMOC Biggs is Luke's friend and confides his intent to join the Rebellion. Lukes whines a lot about not being able to go.
This was left out of the original theatrical release but was included in Marvel Comics' adaptation drawn by Howard Chaykin. So in the theater you have no idea who this Biggs guy is who greets Luke on his arrival on Yavin and it doesn't mean all that much when he dies in the Death Star assault.
Alderaan was established as a center of Rebel activity, with its leadership in deep. On the scale of the Galactic Empire blowing up Alderaan was on the scale of reducing a village harboring VC in Vietnam. Not nice but a good demo for the Death Star. The same thing could have been done with a small fleet of Star Destroyers but the DS zapper was so much more visceral. (Did the networks have any stringers on the Death Star? That would make a hell of a lead story on the Galactic New at 11 broadcast.)
The Empire was ruthless but no more so than the Brits or Romans at the height of their Empires and they were hardly a great evil upon the world compared to what arose in their respective collapses.

Naw, it was R2-D2. Threepio rarely has any idea what is happening around him but Artoo seems to always know.
I strongly suspect his memory wasn't wiped after Episode III and it was no coincidence he was available to carry the Death Star plans. A bigger mystery is why Obi-Wan didn't recognize him, unless it was to maintain cover for both. Artoo probably didn't need to go to Kenobi's location to give him the plans. His job was to deliver Luke to Obi-Wan.

I hate 3D. Very, very few movies worth the 3D. I've seen two movies that were worth it, the stop-motion animated movie Coraline (which was fantastic in 3D, by the way) and Transformers: Dark of The Moon.
Clash of the Titans? Sucked.
Avatar? Sucked.
Tron: Legacy? Sucked.
Thor and Captain America? Added very little.
With that I passed on John Carter in 3D, opting for 2D instead. Never felt like I was missing anything.

It was worse than that. 3 dB is double the power. Whatever noise you had before, you have twice as much after doing something twice, thus........3 dB. It's not just a good idea, it's the Laws of Physics. 2 @ 67 dB hops cannot do better than 64 dB without Lieutenant Uhura's subspace radio being involved.
