With Barry It Was Always About Race
From a Illinois Daily Herald -Associated Press article on young Barack in May, 1990:
The charismatic 28-year-old, ensconced in the halls where tradition reigns, is taking aim at another custom: Obama’s sights are set on the South Side of Chicago, not on a U.S. Supreme Court clerkship or a fast-track career with, a cushy firm.“It’s crucial that people don’t see my election [to the law review] as somehow a symbol of progress in the broader sense, that we don’t sort of point to a Barack Obama any more than you point to a Bill Cosby or a Michael Jordan and say ‘Well, things are hunky dory,’” Obama said.
“There’s certainly racism here. There are certain burdens that are placed, more emotionally at this point than concretely,” Obama said.
“Hopefully, more and more people will begin to feel their story is somehow part of this larger story of how we’re going to reshape America in a way that is less mean-spirited and more generous,” Obama said.“I mean, I really hope to be part of a transformation of this country.”And the future of black people and of America generally? “It depends on how good I do my job,” he said.
So in his view we’re a ‘just downright mean’ country. But don’t worry – he’s probably ‘proud of us for the first time’ for electing him president despite our inherent national racism. And maybe after a third term we’ll finally be worthy of The Lightworker.

There’s a new crisis in town – Acid Ocean:
The authors conclude, “[T]he current rate of (mainly fossil fuel) CO2 release stands out as capable of driving a combination and magnitude of ocean geochemical changes potentially unparalleled in at least the last ~300 [million years] of Earth history, raising the possibility that we are entering an unknown territory of marine ecosystem change.”
And of course we must dismantle our industrial society, do everything in a new more expensive way and buy indulgences for our eco sins to prevent the average pH of the ocean falling from 8.4 to 8.3 or the Earth is DOOOOOOOOOOOOMED!!

Secretary of Education: Teachers Deserve $150,000 Salaries
Because the government is SO good at deciding who deserves who deserves money and who doesnÂ’t.
Secretary of Education Arne Duncan used his SXSWedu keynote address earlier this week to advocate for more professional development and higher salaries for teachers. Duncan argued that teacher salaries should start at about $65,000 a year and range up to $150,000 a year for highly rated veterans.
But even the liberals at GOOD arenÂ’t buying this:
But considering the draconian budget cuts that have led to thousands of teacher layoffs nationwide, every teacher who hears Duncan's suggested salaries has to be asking themselves where that money is supposed to come from.Â… If states can't afford to keep teachers at the relatively low salaries they're paid now, why are we even discussing the possibility of more money?

Should The Firearm Industry Back Obama?
Because heÂ’s been bery bery good for them.
- Since 2008, states with publicly available concealed carry records show increases 46% to 161% more licensees.
- The 2012 SHOT show was the biggest yet, with over 100 countries represented and a record attendance.
- 28 states reported an increase in hunting licenses.

4 Hilariously Unexpected Feuds Between Fringe Groups
Okay you’ve heard of 9/11 ‘Truthers’ but it turns out that they’re divided into two bitter camps who hate each other – ‘Planers’ and ‘No-Planers’:
"No Planers" believe that the travesty on September 11 was orchestrated by the U.S. government, but they also insist that the planes involved were actually holograms. That latter point has made countless other 9/11 conspiracy theorists throw up their hands and say, "Well that's just crazy." It forces everyone who believes there were planes involved into the awkward predicament of arguing against a group that fundamentally shares their beliefs. Planers and No Planers are so bitter about one another's existence that they use up all their energy trying to expose the other side as a bunch of fringe lunatics. By the end of each day, they have no time or enthusiasm left to proselytize to the masses about their common belief or, at the very least, to look up the definition of irony.

Best Headline of the Week: Busty Swede 'Loses' Boob in Mud Wrestling Mishap
Blogger Lina Hellqvist, 24, is one of ten "beautiful big city girls" competing on the "Djungelns Drottning" ('Queen of the Jungle') reality television show currently airing on Sweden's Kanal 5.
The show sees the women dropped "in the middle of the jungle" where they are faced with a variety of challenges as they fight to "find their way back to civilization".
But one of the show's challenges, a wild mud wrestling contest, proved too rough for Hellqvist's sizeable breasts

How A Fashion Model Is Supposed to Look
At least according to the models fashion houses choose to show off their wares.
High Street store H&M has come under fire today for its use of a model some have said is so thin as to be 'corpse-like'.
The model was used in PR material for the clothing giant's Marni campaign, the latest high profile designer collaboration to be launched by the firm. But some have complained that 26-year-old Aymeline Valade looks 'ready to collapse'.
When approached on the matter, H&M defended their position, saying that they do not work with 'significantly underweight' models. They told MailOnline today: 'We appreciate feedback from our customers on how we conduct our business. We think it is regrettable that some of our customers interpret our Marni at H&M PR images as unethical, and feel that the model is underweight.
The Treblinka Look – it’s the new black.

I'm a long time lurker but consider myself a member of the Moron Horde, without whose existenence I'd probably already be too depressed to get out of bed. And there's 7 1/2 months to go. It helps knowing I'm not the only one whose default waking state toward our adminstration and "leaders" is WTF? (And not in a Winning The Future kind of way.) So thanks Jane D'Oh, Truman, Empire of Jeff, Allen the 10th-er, Maet, SMOD, and all the rest of you. The Ewok's not bad, either. You're keeping people going.
Been wanting to say it for a while and now seemed as good a time as any.

I thought the "no planers" were called "pod people" -- because they got their start from the theory that the Pentagon security camera footage showed no normal plane, but rather some weird pod-like contraption.
But plane holograms? That just sounds like people fucking with truthers in a moby trolling manner. Nobody really believes that the tower planes were holograms, right?

That model is hideous.
When I broke my ankle a while back, I couldn't get into my walk-up apartment, so I had to live in an extended stay motel for a while. Cable options were limited, and I got hooked on America's Next Top Model (I'm a chick, FWIW). I guess all models are supposed to be about 6 feet tall and size 0 so they can interchangeably wear the clothes. A size 8 was considered a plus-size model. It's icky. I'm too heavy, and working on it, but I'd rather use Christina Hendricks as my role model than one of these sickly anorectics.

That's my point, packsoldier. There isn't one since Perry bailed. So, yes, I will vote for that fool. I would just like him to be a little more, uh, maybe confrontational? I hate to use the term fire and brimstone, but in my heart, I feel that is exactly what is needed. And all-out assault on the fascist fraud and his slimy minions. I don't realistically expect to see it and that gives me major sad-face (and possibly a drinking problem).

It's one of those stories that neither "side" wants to report on. The lefties hate the military, we know...under an R POTUS this would be Mai Lai part II. But as long as Obama keeps the troops there, the lefties have to cover for him.
And, admittedly generalizing, many on our side don't blame the soldier...most of us don't want this sort of thing to happen. We sympathize more with the stress these men must be under every day, and we're not going to score cheap political points on his back.

What's happening now is that in order to save money more and more butchers, meat processors etc. are cutting regular ground beef with the pink slime, but still calling it ground beef, the USDA lets them do that.
I don't know, I can't fully argue a cogent point of view on the subject, other than to once again voice the opinion that we are fast becoming a third world hell hole.

One thing I am confused about in regard to the soldier is why he has retained a civil defense attorney. Wouldn't he be tried by the military so wouldn't there need to be a military attorney?
So far here they haven't done too much about how crazy JBLM is, not sure if there really is something wrong with Ft. Lewis or if it is typical of any military installation. It does seem like every time we turn around another soldier has done something completely whack-a-doo (murder for hire, directly murdering spouses or lovers or spouses of lovers, supplying drugs to underage girls and then not intervening when they OD, robbing students at UW, just to name several of the more recent crises)

From the look on his face I could tell he didn't get whatever it is he wanted, and I certainly didn't tell him what he wanted to hear. Honestly, I couldn't care less at that point.
WTF? WTFF?
He wants you to believe that it's not the Che-boys, it's a marauding band of LGBT activists from the night shift that randomly fixated on you for a reason unrelated to the shirt incident? And he wants to call a truce with you when you're down several tires, auto glass, and your company's down some computer hardware? Why doesn't he go talk to the MD about calling a truce?

That, and what does that have to do with Che Guevara? Is he some kind of icon of the LGBT set in spite of his murderous actions? What about Jeffrey Dahmer? He was an actual gay murderer, but he murdered other gays. So many questions, so few LGBT activist acquaintances to ask.

A military attorney will be provided, but he is free to seek civilian counsel if he chooses to.
A lot of the stuff happens everywhere. JBLM is simply so large that it pops up often enough to be noticable. Any officer or senior NCO can tell you stories of the stupid crap that Soldiers (sailors, marines, airmen) do. Hell, it's practically required.

One thing I am confused about in regard to the soldier is why he has retained a civil defense attorney. Wouldn't he be tried by the military so wouldn't there need to be a military attorney?
Never tried by Courts Martial, PGiS, but probably should have been. Heh. The deal with using the provided military lawyer is that the Army pays the guy. He won't be a defense lawyer his entire career. Heck, the prosecutor and military judge and he might all work for the same person! There are quite a few civilian lawyers around the country who have experience, usually as a military lawyer, to properly defend this man.
The real military court system isn't Tom Cruise and Kevin Bacon.

(maybe not for summary courts martial, but definitely for special and general.)
They do need license and should have UCMJ experience but I don't believe it's required.
In capital cases, it would be advisable to hire outside counsel.
Let's be honest, can a defendant really trust a counsel selected by the command that is court martially them?
Me, I thought he got tired of the Afghan soldiers shooting up US soldiers. Decided he was going to get some payback.
Wrong, but I can see how his thinking led him to that.

Oh yes. Lets see, you have at least one soldier who wrecks his brand new $40k car the weekend he gets it, the soldier who gets in a fight with his buddy after inviting him over for a threesome with the first soldier's wife, the soldier who gets a massive Rx of narcotics and promptly sells them to half the barracks, and the private who gets married to his HS sweetheart and ends up with CPS coming to their house because the place reeks from all the dirty diapers, dog shit, backed up pipes, and dirty laundry all over the place.
Then you get a phone call on Saturday because some girl has been going door to door in the barracks "selling magazines".
God I'm going to miss the Army.

You asked someone not to wear a t-shirt. Since then you've had racist nailpolished on your monitor. You had death threats. You had your tires slashed. You've had a big gulp poured on the work pc. Your security guard was beat the fuck down and was hospitalized. You had to go to the police station to give a statement. You continue to have little leftists fucks get in your face at work and make snide remarks. And now your car was completely trashed. Again. Or something.

This sounds like some political cross over outside the org.
Either union or social.
Maybe they're all part of the same local Democrat (or socialist) org or they all particape(d) at some point in a political rally. Like maybe getting Obumbles elected?
Being a free thinker and willing to express your inability to accept their lies and fantasies about socialist/communist revolutionaries (murders, thieves and thugs) makes you a danger and a target.
BTW. Most don't stand up because they have too much to lose in their situation. SoS sounds like they know their rights, they work for a well organized org that has rules and regs and requires everyone to follow them regardless of the politics. That's rare. Most orgs either don't have the rules and regs or are too small to have to enforce them (most times unless litigation strikes) or they hide the facts too well and fire the "troublemaker" (i.e. the one not of the hive)
Good luck. Start refreshing the old resume and putting out feelers though as this could start to get on mgmt's nerves and you're an army of one.

One of my favorite stories from active duty was one from a good friend in Naples, Italy who was a Physician Assistant. Earlier in his career he was a Med Tech on a small ship. One of his duties was to make sure the water supply was safe. Before the ship left the dock he checked the water supply and the clorine level was low. He kept adding chlorine until the level was at the required amount.
Once out to sea sailors began showing up in sick bay with diarrhea and vomiting. As the day wore on more and more sailors came in. Finally he gets a call from the ship's Captain to report to the bridge. He knew he was going to get a commendation since he had helped so many sailors in a short amount of time.
Much to his surprise the Captain was very upset. It seems once the ship hit the high seas the chlorine he had been adding at the dock finally mixed with the water sending the chlorine levels sky high. He thought his career was over at that point or the Captain was going to have him thrown overboard.

SoS: creeper at comment#354 brings up an interesting point: "That night supervisor evidently had no direct connection to Che-boy and yet she targeted you. The most recent vandals (and BTW, that's three times...switchblade, nail gun, tire iron) are obviously not your garden-variety unruly teens. There are some nasty people looking to make an example of you."
How do these people know each other? I suspect a 6-degrees of separation thing.
The LGBT night supervisor strikes me as a lone actor; she might have known Che-Boy's supervisor, and decided to even the score.
Jekyl Sr. sticks out as a potential problem though, based on the crew that trashed your car and Che-groupie telling you he never figured things would get this stupid and wanted things to end. Sounds like he knows something, possibly about Che-Boy, Che-Boy's friend, and associates ... Maybe if HR leans real heavily on him, the pimple will pop.

To buy time and ventilate the fumes, DC hits the garage door opener. As the door inches slowly upward, the tension builds, until -- unexpectedly -- the beagle lunges toward the creature and bites the threatening paw off at the wrist. Being -- literally -- disarmed, the raccoon makes a break for freedom. DC grabs the beagle before it gives chase -- he needs to get that gas off his floor before another one comes by with a Zippo.

I don't doubt that HR knows the name, but that they are withholding it. It's a reasonable thing to do.
The more I think about it, the more likely it is that Che Douche has been putting out his side of the story, where SoS is portrayed as a racist bigot. It would explain the lack of connection: a couple of people are taking shots as SoS simultaneously because they think that they can without getting punished. Jekyll and his buddy are probably friends with someone at that office, who asked them to trash "that racist's" car.
Posted by: Alex at March 15, 2012 08:33 PM (XzxB+)
I used to manage an office with hundreds of people including many part time college students, and have seen similar situations though none that have persisted as long as this one. Even had an employee vandalize my car. From my perspective the company is doing everything by the book and firing wrongdoers as soon as they have the proper evidence.

This drove LGBT supe off the rails (a short drive, she could have easily walked). She doesn't know SoS from Adam -- she knows only that Big Brother has identified him as Emmanuel Goldstein, enemy of The People.
When SoS doesn't sign the HR confession, the Big Lie goes from an asset to a liability quickly. If people start learning what a ginned-up pile of crap it is, they might begin to doubt other things they've been told, and the liar's credibility could plummet. So SoS needs to be removed -- not for anything he did, but because the person who amped it fears a loss of status.

The SoS saga could be seen as being like the Ulsterman "Washington Insider" interviews -- fascinating, but too good to be true. It pushes all the right buttons etc. Like most sane people, I always take any uncorroborated story I see on the internet with a grain of salt. So I don't know for sure. If I hadn't seen some crazy shit myself, it would be easy to just dismiss it.
The following be instructive, in terms of how for lefties are willing to go for whatever sacred cause.
20+ years ago, I worked at smallish facilty in Maryland owned by the Gillette Company - the razor people. (The company has since been absorbed by Proctor and Gamble - products are still called Gillette.) Because the facility did animal testing (mandated by the FDA), it was a target for PETA. The facility did research on cosmetics, razors, tooth care, and more speculative work on suppression of beard hair growth. With a couple of exceptions, I did not work with animals
We had two probes because of the animal thing.
1. A young woman took a job there in the animal care operation. She often carried around a large bag with her at work. One day she didn't show up for work, and instead appeared at a PETA press conference in downtown Wahington D.C. She showed films (with sound) taken inside the animal rooms, apparently with equipment hidden inside the bag. The footage misrepresented what was happening - the persons sacrificing animals (all women) were portrayed as callous and basically, murderous. In addition, someone, presumably the bag girl, had gone through filing cabinets looking for papers. One of the documents shown at the press conference was an old form with LD50 testing as a category -- when the company had said they didn't do that anymore. In fact they did not -- it was an old form not removed from the system. This girl had made friends with people at the facility and yet she exposed them to public ridicule and possible danger without a thought. These were people I knew, and there they were on this shit-television show. Put yourself in their shoes for a minute.
2. This is worse. A year later or so I was coming back from picking up my lunch at the supermarket up the road one day and pulled into the parking lot. One of the other employees tailgated me into the parking lot. She pulled in next to me and I was about to say, very funny, when I noticed her face was red and she was in tears. She yelled something to the effect that "this weirdo has been chasing me for miles, he's been following me through red lights" and I jumped out of my car. There was a tiny economy car in the center of the parking lot lane, just sitting there about fifty feet away. The door opened and out stepped this skinny scabrous looking white boy with a really extensive spherical afro do.
He was about 6'5" and watching him unfold from that car was like the clown car empty at the circus. He approached and she rolled up her window. I blocked him by standing between her car and him, and he kept trying to flank around to the left and right. He didn't look at me, he stared at her. I asked him if he wanted to talk to the police, because they were coming (not true) and he mumbled "sure I'll talk to the police." I yelled to somebody walking in the front door facility to call the police. Eventually the weirdo left.
It turns out he latched onto her as he left a remote animal facility where Gillette rented space. He followed her closely, she got more an more alarmed, got terrified, and she actually went through red lights and he followed her anyway. She saw me and tailgated me in at the end ot the chase.
The police never did come except long afterwards after he was gone. A useless doughut-eater showed up, Gaithersburg PD, guy with a big soft gut. We gave him the license plate and name of the rental company for the weirdo-mobile. He said he might make some progress because he knew a guy at the rental agency. WTF?
Later somebody advised me that if you want the cops to come for sure, claim you saw a weapon. And I hear the young woman's husband was of the opinion that I was very remiss in not beating the shit out of the guy. I think maybe he was right. Ironically, I was sort of thinking while he was there, "sure why not, my life sucks anyway, let him have it." I think the thought that this would be somebody on which I could take out my frustrations, would not be an uncommon male thought under the circumstances.
I learned something about extremists and something about the police.

Hey, I have some genuine traveling side show experience. I spent most of 1981 traveling central and northern CA with the Butler's Amusements midway. This was for a guy I'd been working weekends for almost three years at that. His parents had owned a circus that wintered in Thousand Oaks where I grew up. (To the extent that I ever grew up.) Mostly it was selling balloons and other stuff at swap meets, parades, car shows, etc. John had grown up learning to do just about everything and was a big collector of freak show memorabilia. I had read a lot on the subject already when I first started working for him.
But that year John A.J. Strong Jr. decided to take his show out on the carny circuit and since I was exactly attending school in any real educational sense, I got permission to go along.
Very interesting year, including my only night spent in jail.

Lacey, I well understand -- and appreciate your judgment. I'm sort of in the "willing suspension of disbelief" camp, myself -- since being too harsh a skeptic would make my evenings more drab. Then, again, I can also follow along with things while keeping them in the "neither proved true nor proved false" category.
You're a real poster, not a troll, so stand on the soapbox and speak your pieces when you've a mind to. Maybe there needs to be an SoS skeptics' thread to put together rational arguments why this can't be happening....

No, what I'm saying is that it's likely that a couple of lefty idiots were told "so and so is a racist" and each decided to harass him. No communication necessary. They tend to think alike, as we've discussed on this site many times, so it shouldn't be too far a stretch to think that a couple of them might come to the same conclusion that it would be cool to do a little vandalism.

The whole business was a non-starter idiot trap. But it turned out there were more idiots than expected, including Obama's staff.
Think about it. The story came out of Hillary's campaign. Do you believe for a moment that if there were any truth to it they wouldn't have fully exploited it? Especially considering the Obama camp's history of dirty tricks in campaigns (7 of 9 sex scandal and more) why didn't they? Hiring a team of PI's to dig up evidence would have been cheap compared to losing the nomination.
Reaching for a technical disqualification only makes those people look desperate and incapable of offering any genuine argument against the opposition. Educating the electorate on the demonstrable history and results of bad policy are far more useful things to do.

Probably. What annoys me is that too many people on our side seem eager for it. The BC thing should be the last route anyone wants to take, because it would tear this country apart. Better to simply say that it doesn't matter anymore, and that the concern will be getting him out of office, and putting up restrictions that prevent this from happening again. I have no problem with imposing a law that demands a presidential candidate show proof that they meet the qualifications for office, for example.

i hear you that there seem to be people eager for something they have NO IDEA what the actual reality would be. And it would be horror. they also have no clue that a third party might step in to complicate things if things get good and stirred up, to take advantage of the disruption and confusion, and that this would be VERY BAD.

Can't find any of it on YouTube but if you watched Circus of the Stars back then, John supervised some of the acts, like William Shatner on the bed of nails with a slab of concrete on his chest that john breaks with a sledgehammer.
That was also when Brooke Shield did the Walking on broken glass' and managed to cut herself. When we did the live show we pulled women out of the audience and got them to do that with no more preparation than some fake hypnosis. The trick was that there was no trick. No sharp edge had enough pressure behind it to cause damage, just like the bed of nails.

It is horrible. I'm taking a long weekend. The poor kid doesn't know what to do or how to react, and neither do the adults running the school. The two boys tried to remove the bullet (from a 12 guage), then tried to tell the police it was a drive by. Being 13 year olds it was quickly debunked. The shooter supposedly has 90 days in juvenile hall. Shooter is also best freinds of my kid's love of life. 3rd love of life this year BTW. lib Che -- SoS is making me take off my t-shirt. My rights to free expression are being taken away by this knuckle dragging Bible thumper. He hate us and our Constitutional protections.
lib #2 -- this is just like when Bush invaded countries on made up excuses, just to kill brown skinned people.
twilight lib -- Ooh, I'm so proud of the both of you. Come over to my place tonight and I'll drain your balls and pump up your egos. Way to stick it to The Man.
Che Supervisor -- This simply intolerable. I will not be silenced. An injustice has occurred to lib Che and I can do something about it. I'll put out a memo outing his hate filled speech. Also, I've talked with the Night Supervisor (a good friend) and she is equally outraged. Maybe together we can shame him out here. Plus I've talked to the HR Director and she is similarly outraged at this asshattery. There is strength in numbers and we can run this intolerant creep out of here.
This dialog above likely happened in some form and led to the first vandalisms and firings. Afterward, some outside players were recruited for vengeance. They are basically incompetent and keep getting caught.
I tried to think like a lib to posit all this stuff and now I need some aspirin. Plus a well deserved beer.

that is funny. we have that problem a lot on the weekends. you will find guys in the emergency exit doorways, which are recessed into the facade of the building, relieving themselves. a couple of weekends ago I was walking the methlab and saw a guy doing it on our building and yelled at him loudly enough to get him to stop, zip, and leave. literally a limey bastard. admittedly he was about 5 inches shorter and 50 pounds smaller than me - and I had the methlab. on a couple of occassions the methlab has gone around a corner where a guy was relieving himself on the other side and scared the piss back into him.

One of my favorite anecdotes is about a guy in London who -- y'know, civilized and all that, but sometimes the call of nature is more like an air-raid siren. So, he's hurrying down the street, looking left and right for some sort of alternative, and it's not looking good.
So he goes up to a doorway, nervously unzips, and is tapped on the shoulder by a London policeman, who asks him just what he thinks he's doing. He replies, "I wouldn't, but it's URGENT", and the Bobby -- taking pity on him -- says, "Right -- quick, this way!"
The Bobby leads him just around the corner and down a little alley, where he turns and there's a very pleasant and private spot, with a bit of a garden, and no windows.....where the guy quickly does his business while the Bobby guards the alley they came in. Striding out with a bit more confidence than he darted in, he asks the Bobby about this secluded spot: "Was that some sort of tiny park or something?"
And receives the reply, "er, no -- that's the grounds of the French Embassy."

Santorum should have taken the time to prepare the intellectual battlefield. If he'd clearly laid out that there are things that he'd do personally, that he'd recommend for people, that *should* be government policy, and that can be accomplished by an administration, he'd have looked like he had his head on straight. 'Tis no sin to say something like, "I've mainly been monogamous, and have learned from the times I wasn't; I'd recommend monogamy; it should be government policy to favor monogamy without being punitive or violating equal protection; realistically, though, it's been pushed about as far as it's going to get." -- and note how this nuanced view will be portrayed as "flip-flopping" by the MSM.
But he has to maintain those distinctions. To pop out with some stuff about internet porn without specifying the role he is playing when he talks about it is stupid.

I could. Home Despot wanted $5 less per sheet for 2:4:1 (1-1/8") plywood than they did for 3/4". The assembly table and the outfeed table would both hold up a friggin' 747. They weigh a ton empty and I am gonna put a lot of metal away inside them.

When I was in Junior High / High School, my dad built 5 spec houses that furnished the money to put me and my sister through college. Naturally, I was recruited to assist with this, and -- naturally -- I was a whiny little spoiled jerk about the prospect of actually making a contribution.
Now, my dad tried to build all five houses with a little Black + Decker circular saw (using the same blade through most of them), doing stuff "on-the-fly", and over the time period in question, I developed a real solid terror of power tools. [True story: on the last house I worked on, he was shoving that B+D through a piece of plywood for the roof, getting it about 3" in and pulling back and pushing again, when *I* insisted on getting a new blade over lunch. That afternoon, on the next sheet of plywood, he set himself up to shove it 3" again and caught the plywood in the gut when the saw blade went 3' with less force than he'd needed for 3" before.]
Fast forward through college, and some years after, when I'm now a homeowner.....and can afford better tools. I've really had to reinvent the way I looked at this stuff.
Most recently, I've discovered the mathematical joy of clamping guides, putting work on sleds, using jigs, and spending more time on setup than actually making the cut. I just wish I could have done this way back when, 'cause it takes the fear of "what if I slip/stutter/shake/blink" away.

If you do, have him bring his friggin' shop elves. That bastard never has to clean up any dust. He doesn't have little bits of wood stacked everywhere, and nothing is ever in the way. I know he has elves working at night.

Thats why I build the guitars in pairs. The setup for each jig/operation is just short of ball surgery.

I hear ya JC,,, but it's a bit to clean.. if you have everything being sucked out of the machines how do you smell the wood?? It's all about the smelling in my book...and crunching shavings and little wood do dads you can think up things to use them for... that's wood working,, not for profit..

Only pairs? In my spare time, when I'm not BS'ing on an ONT, I'm an accountant, and there's the concept of "Economic Order Quantity", which basically says that you should order things where the setup is worth more than the thing very rarely, but when the setup is trivial you can order that widget all the time.
I'm surprised you don't build in quads.

Probably because it takes 150-200 hours to build one, and if you cut that much shit ahead of time you are babysitting it for a looong time. Also, they are all different. Somebody gets one, I keep the other, then on to the next one. If was doing them cookie cutter I would probably cut 12 at a time, enough for a year or 2.

There is nothing like the smell of heated rosewood. Bending the rosewood sides is almost a religious experience. lol

I am prepping up my cut sheets for tomorrow. I got a program from Romania that is pretty cool. It does trial and error optimization of materials and makes diagrams of how to cut down whole sheets into individual pieces. Spits out companion files in excel, too.

That sounds pretty cool. Is it a Romanian product? Is it in English?

Yes to both. It can be set to a lot of different languages. There are a lot of US competitors for a lot more money. 75 Euro. Really well done program, does 1D and 2D optimization, and keeps track of grain patterns, too. Can be used for window trim, brickmold, plywood, or just about anything else. Also, can be set for multiple chops like I have to do with wood, or for nested stuff that you could do with a plasma cutter or some other machine. Also plots out the codes for plasma cutters and the like. Lotsa bang for the Euro.

I can do things in smidgeons? Sounds great!
That looks plenty cool. I'll have to keep that in mind if I ever end up doing volume.

At the price of wood these days, it doesn't take much to pay for this thing. To me, the best part is Excel-in, and Excel-out along with bitmap diagrams out. Makes an easy way to track pieces --
It also will save a scrap list for you, and use the scrap list on your next job. And it will print labels, too. I don't have any need for the labels, but I would if I had customers.
