Evenin' morons. Another Friday is upon us so grab a cold one and regale the horde with your tales of, well, whatever is on your mind. In China....

In China, A House In The Middle Of The Road. Poor guy didn't want to sell his house to the Chinese government for a new road. You can see how the government responded. I'm actually surprised they just didn't run a few tanks through his house and say oops, my bad.
AoSHQ Lifestyle?

Is Lindsey Lohan overdoing the AoSHQ Lifestyle or just not doing it right? Lohan Is Drinking Two Liters Of Vodka A Day.

Adult Industry & College Debt
Research by Dr Ron Roberts, of the University of Kingston, published in 2010 suggested that one in four students know someone who had worked in the sex industry to fund their studies – up from three per cent in 1990. Dr Roberts found 16 per cent would consider working in the industry while more than one in 10 were open to the idea of being an escort.

Study Of Dark Personalities
This might explain SCOAMF's popularity. Psychology Uncovers Sex Appeal Of Dark Personalities.
The findings reinforce previous research showing that narcissists are more popular than others, literally at first sight. Mitja Back and Boris Egloff of Johannes Gutenberg-University of Mainz along with Stefan Schmukle at Westfalische Wilhelms-University of Muenster conducted a study in 2010 where they collected information on studentsÂ’ personalities and then had them briefly introduce themselves to one another. After these brief introductions, the students filled out surveys asking about the first impressions made by each other. Students scoring higher on narcissism were seen as more likeable. People perceived the narcissists as more likeable and found that they had flashier appearances, more confident body language, and more attractive facial expressions. Together with Holtzman and StrubeÂ’s findings, this suggests that narcissists are more skilled at carrying and presenting themselves in a way that immediately impresses others.

My local Chevy dealer decided that I don't really need $1,100 and that his mechanic could fake some problems that require that much repair work. That doesn't include the brakes they claim I need.
My good friend who owns a Volvo performance shop fixed the problem for $1 worth of brake fluid.
Should I bring my H and K (fuck you Pixy for no ampersand) .40 to the dealer on Monday?

He finally burned out. His liver almost quit, he spent a week in the hospital and almost died.
The shit is cumulative. When you are young you can get away with a lot, your liver rebuilds itself if you give it six weeks, but after a constant assault, it will fail.
My buddy? Hasn't had ANY alcohol in two years. They gave him the choice, keep drinking, die. Stop, maybe you will live.

They are not hard, just google up shrimp and grits.
The key? DO NOT over cook the shrimp. If you do they will be tough as shoe leather. Do the grits and shrimp separate and do not put the shrimp in until the last moment before serving.

Teacher, conservative, very refined, very beautiful, someone I can at last commiserate with over the election results and also a news junkie.
Then I started wondering why said refined lady should be punished by going out with a low class trashy vulgar turd monkey such as myself. Sigh.

I thought the same thing. Doesn't pass the BS meter. She weights 100-120.
Two liters is what 66 ozs. that's 33 two oz shots.
She is awake 16 hours? That's two shots every hour she is awake. She would die of alcohol poisoning. Your body will dispose of a shot an hour, that would still leave 16 shots in her body or a quart of vodka. Assume it is 80 proof or 40% alcohol, that would mean she would have over 12 oz of pure alcohol in her body. Which would mean she was DEAD.

Nah, just call the Toyota rep and explain the situation. I know Hendrick, his dealers on the whole are honest. What has happened as sales went down a lot of the dealerships tried to squeeze more revenue out of the service department.
My wife has a GMC Envoy at the beach. She took it in two years ago to have them service it. They loaded her up with the "bad water pump" trick and hoses and belts. I said nothing, she was in charge. She went back a year later for a "free" checkup and cheap oil change. Guess what? They told her her water pump was bad.
She figure out what was up and pulled out her receipt from the year before with the life time parts warranty. Needless to say they were somewhat embarrassed to be caught red handed cheating. Always ask them to keep any old parts for you to inspect. NEVER give a dealer or shop a blank card. Demand an estimate BEFORE any work is done. Most dealers do that automatically to avoid trouble.

The Battle of Savo Sound was a disaster. Marines had just gone ashore. From Rabaul the Japanese sortied a strong force. At night this force slipped by the DD USS Blue and another DD. Both cans were at the opposite ends of their patrols and the IJN cruisers slipped between their radar scopes. So the first warning men aboard USS Vicennes, HMAS Canberra, and other ships was when the IJN cruisers opened fire. It was a massacre and start of calling it Iron Bottom Sound.
Oct Admiral Scott took a cruiser force to oppose the Tokyo Express and managed to derail it. In Nov Scott was involved in CA/DD duel with the IJN. This was the infamous call of cease fire because the US formation got messed up and Scott though US ships were firing on each other. By the end of this battle, Adm Scott would be dead and his flagship USS San Francisco had taken more than 20 hits.
Then there was the BB duel between USS Washington and USS South Dakota under the command of Admiral Lee. Prelude to this combat, according to one source, he told the Peter Tares to back off and his name was 'Chinese Catchee.' The two US BBs slugged it out with the IJN BBs Hiei and Kirishima.
There were also pure DD duels. Ainsworth, Moosbrugger, and Burke. From one of these combats Arleigh Burke got the nickname '31-knot Burke.'
As for USS New Orleans. IIRC from 'And Pass the Ammunition' which was written by New Orleans chaplain, after Tassafaronga, a temporary wooden bow was fitted in theatre before she returned home for repairs. The concussion of the torpedo hit that tore away the bow and No. 1 turret killed the entire gun crew of No. 2 turret. After the battle sailors from other divisions manned No.2 turret.

Total depends on what the computer is showing bad. I have an old BMW 740il that we drove for three years with the light on. Cat converter was bad and we were not going to put out $2K for one. Depending on the car you should be able to find a mechanic that will plug in your car computer to the diagnostic machine and tell you what it is for very little money.

Not a car show exactly, more of a cruise-in. First Sat. of every month. They happen in lots of places, might even be one near you. I know there's one in Charlotte in addition to the one I go to in Cary.
Yeah... Bronys. I would pay to see EoJ's take on bronys.

Sven- Hang in there Bro. I feel ya' man. It's really not 150 Million, it's the 535 + the WH, or so - inside the Beltway who have turned their back on the Constitution. The huge fault in all this is that it simply isn’t their place to be “benevolent” with other peoples money. All our benevolence is embodied in our Constitution. If they would simply abide by its precepts and manage the nation responsibly, “benevolence” would take care of itself – at a far higher level.

Tolerance is an amazing thing. When I diet I stop drinking totally. I go from at least two or three bottles of wine a day to zero.
When I start back maybe two or three months later, I can get totally bombed on two glasses on wine. I find that if I drink more than two, I get a hang over.
I have to work into serious drinking, which requires some pain in the morning when you have not been drinking. Worst hang over I ever had was after a birthday party when I had just started drinking again and thought I had my old tolerance. Bad idea.

An independent mechanic you can trust is worth his weight in gold (or at least silver dimes). I almost never take a vehicle to the dealer anymore. The guy I use now is a pain in the ass to get to, but he has been straight with me for years. On at least three occasions, he has solved a "major" problem diagnosed by other mechanics for hundreds of dollars less when he could have easily given me the same diagnosis and charged me the higher price.
Most dealers (I exclude GM and Chrylser) are tied in with the factory/manufacturer and would work with you on a bad estimate on a bad repair.

All the heavy alkys I knew are dead now. Most of them didn't make it past 40. The ones that did make it that far don't have a mind now. I had to take a serious look around and decided to leave them behind. I've got better things to do. Two liters a day? Just pr BS.

Don't know what course of treatment you have pursued so far. I myself would go off-label with a "cocktail" approach rather than try the conventional oncology approach. There is a quiet patient-driven revolution starting to happen in cancer care.

The sports channel's I have here (in Toronto) are showing junior league games like from the OHL; and classic games to fill the air time and stop hockey withdrawal symptoms from appearing.
Unfortunately for me I think the World Junior Championship (Christmas to around New Year) is on a network I no longer get so I'll be screwed out of that that's very popular here.

According to the flick, he cursed God for failing him. So, kinda hard to see how that works out.
For other reason I don't think the movie worked. It seemed too artificial, too artificial.
It really didn't sell the relationships very well. As in other Coppola's later work, the sets and costumes are the best parts. YMMV.

Meh. I was an arts and leisure major in college (I got better...), and when we got to 19th century literature, we read Dracula (and other vampire literature). Dracula is NOT a very good book, but it's a great story and has a lot of atmosphere. So, yeah, even though the relationships are fakey fake, as they are in the book, the movie gets the themes right, at least.
...and Tom Waits is Renfield!

It's a word I'd use, just not the only one. I think "cute" is a word that gets used for extremely good looking people when they still look like normal human beings (even if they're so far out on the right end of the good-looking bell curve they're outliers to the outliers). Kate Upton still looks like a (incredibly good looking) regular person, which is not common with the models in general. The others tend to be "exotic" in some way or another.

Ace's Prophesy from earlier this very week:
What I can't understand is the simple hate, the hate for hate's sake, the hate of The Other for the sake of Self-Affirmation. I especially can't understand the hate coming from the sort of people who will insist to you, quite seriously, that they have essentially purged all primitive and dark emotion from themselves and now exist on an elevated Oprah/Chopra plane of pidgin Zen harmony and balance... Likewise this sort of thing -- the "taking delight" or laughing at some kind of human flaw or sin -- is of such a de minimis or venial nature that I wonder if we overconcern ourselves with this sort of thing in order to avoid thinking too much about more serious things. See, it's a prophesy because you can see people gloating already on this here thread... one that had been completely and blessedly free of such until they showed up.

We're all still waiting for a politician to make the argument that once you've earned the money, what you do with it later is your own business. It will be a long wait. In my opinion, capital gains, dividend taxes, and the estate tax are all wrong, in both a fiscal and moral sense. So long as envy is the mood of the day, the above is a long time coming.

Simply put, Prop 13 said that property taxes were limited to 1% (plus fudging) of the last purchase price, increased by some minimal, below-inflation amount since the sale. It means that governments here have only partially been able to benefit from the huge increases in property values since 1978.
Now, for the first time since it passed, the Dems have supermajorities in both chambers of the California legislature. Unfortunately, you have to be an old fart to remember the reign of terror that pre-1978 homeowners faced -- I was but a lad of 16 when Prop 13 passed.
The problem is that property taxes ARE taxes on wealth -- not income. So if you're just scraping by and the state thinks you're "rich enough", they can hike the property tax and take a bigger bite. And if you don't pay, they seize your home -- which is typically the biggest asset in a household.
Besides which, you pay property taxes even if you don't live here. There is lots of Asian money coming into California real estate -- and buying rental homes, second homes, getaway condos.....which is keeping the market buoyed up. Having stable, reliable property tax rates is a major draw -- helping to counteract the huge number of foreclosures and underwater mortgages in this state. What happens when those opposing forces decide to join on the downside?

The CA real estate market collapses, and the rates go up and up as the revenue goes down, down, down. That is until the state decides to peg the "value" of a piece of property to some number that it was closer to when they decided to start raping everyone.
Then the state will become the largest property holder as it forecloses on home after home from people that either can no longer afford the taxes or people who have bailed because they couldn't sell their place anyways, again because of the taxes.
Or not.

That was one part of the development of my serious aversion to "lib science". So, the deal is, you've got these stem cells -- and just like the stems of a plant, you can get branches. Stem cells can continuously produce other cells, which can end up as heart muscle cells, nerve cells, liver cells, whatever -- you just gotta steer 'em right. So they can do all sorts of "magic" things -- in fact, a fertilized ovum is the ultimate "stem cell" because it can make all the cells in a functional human.
Every cell you have has all the DNA to be that first, basic stem cell. You could, in theory, reconstruct an entire person from any cell in your body (BTW, I have doubts about this in that I suspect that "being human" is not just nuclear DNA but also the related microbiome). The problem is, most of the cells in your body have been "trained" to be something else -- a skin cell, a muscle, an organ. So there's two ways of getting "pluripotent" (that which can be anything) stem cells -- grab an embryo that hasn't become anything yet, or reverse the training.
And here's the most important thing about this.....if you start with an embryo, you will get something to be transplanted -- that will have the usual issues of transplant rejection and you will have to be on anti-immune drugs for life....because it will have foreign DNA. But if you revert your own cells to stem cells and go forward from there, there is no transplant rejection and you can go forward as if it were internally developed by your own body.
In 2004, the State of California -- for entirely political reasons, mostly related to rubbing bloody aborted fetuses in the face of the GOP -- placed a $3 billion dollar bet on embryonic stem cells with Proposition 71. A more noxious mixture of stupidity and spite could scarcely be imagined. Essentially, it was also a bet AGAINST regressed cells -- because the final result of regressed cells was always going to be infinitely superior in application.
Now, the thing is -- if it had only gone so far as to say, "we'll work on embryonic stem cells to bootstrap applications, but we'll work with regressed stem cells on the production side", it might have made some sense -- and if it didn't commit the state to $3B in general-obligation bonds, it might not have been such a boondoggle -- but it put funds the state didn't presently have on a big bet for the roulette wheel to come up purple.

Prop 13 has been the Emmanuel Goldstein of the California left since it was passed. It will be ground into dust -- just not immediately. You're probably right that it will be eroded in stages -- first, property owned by corporations will be reassessed every 10 years....or some such malarkey. But once the libs sip from that nectar, they'll be hooked. I just hope I can be on another path and cash out of the house before people start to panic.

There's a lot of stuff in biochemistry that is currently understood at a "this does that" level where there are indications that a more ecological understanding is appropriate. There is a ton of "dark DNA" for instance -- and recent articles about it modulating mapped DNA. And there is evidence that the microbiome can modulate human nuclear DNA -- which leads one to suspect that human nuclear DNA might modulate the microbiome....and then, where the hell are you?
I'm kind of thinking that the human microbiome and nuclear structure are like DJ's swapping mixtapes. "Yo, check this protein!"

They also appear to be an infection. They have their own DNA (passed on maternally, instead of in human DNA) which is closely related to bacterial DNA. They have their own structure. They roam, fully-formed, inside human cells.
It's been going on for a long, long while. Plants have mitochondria, as well as all animals. Evolution decided to "sub out" energy management before it decided to produce roots and stems.

We don't have kids, but we have godkids......and we've discovered that they are their own people from a very young age. One kid can't be substituted for another. And, yet, at the end of the film, there's a detailed description of the kids that were in the alternate universe....when ejaculation deferred by a millisecond might have produced someone else. The kids in the alternate universe are gone.
The happy family in the alternate life had extra years and lucky rolls of the genetic dice -- the "maybe things will work out" ending in no way compensates for that.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations, plus China, India, Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand, will form a club and leave out the United States.
It is hard to fathom just what President Obama had in mind when he arrived in Asia bearing a Trans-Pacific Partnership designed to keep China out. What does the United States have to offer Asians? It is borrowing $600 billion a year from the rest of the world to finance a $1.2 trillion government debt, most prominently from Japan (China has been a net seller of Treasury securities during the past year). It is a taker of capital rather than a provider of capital. It is a major import market but rapidly diminishing in relative importance as intra-Asian trade expands far more rapidly than trade with the United States. And America's strength as an innovator and incubator of entrepreneurs has diminished drastically since the 2008 crisis, no thanks to the Obama administration, which imposed a steep task on start-up businesses in the form of its healthcare program.

Diplomatically, "Let It Burn" is moot. The house is on fire and there ain't no water round.
In the long run, as America becomes more like Mexico-plus-Detroit, it isn't going to get invited to clubs that Mexico (or a People's Republic of Detroit) wouldn't get invited to.
The America that held up the Western World like a glorious colossus, and that could shape world diplomacy in accordance with its preferences, is being wiped away through the replacement of its historically White and First World population, as a matter of deliberate policy, with the support of the anti-White elites of the Democratic Party and the Republican Party.
Again, "Let It Burn" is moot. The house is on fire and there ain't no water round.
I've got suggestions on what Whites, right-wingers, conservatives and the Republican Party should do to survive and potentially thrive. (Turning off the mass immigration tap, both legal and illegal; opposing affirmative action, quotas, set-asides and disparate impact; supporting home-schooling and all other assertions of independence from the cultural Marxist education system; re-invigorating Federalism as a conservative value and trying to woo heavily unionized Northern Whites; repealing the Hollywood tax cuts and following all Instapundit suggestions on taxes, student loans and intellectual property laws.)
I've got no suggestions on how a country that has a stable anti-White and liberal ruling coalition, that is rapidly spending itself broke, and that exports its industries while importing a new nation in obvious demographic conflict with the old one, can retain the diplomatic influence that it used to have when it was demographically and culturally solid, industrious, innovative and wealthy. That's not going to happen. That's a lost cause.
We're all going to find out what a post-peak-America Asia looks like.

Last time I took it to an auto mechanic not affiliated with GMC/Chevy and he fixed the problem for $25.00 it was a bad ground at the battery, something Chevy should have found the first trip to the shop.
Chevrolet and GMC and it's dealers are thieves and totally untrust worthy I'll never buy another GM or Chevy product even a used one.

He would work on a car (that the senior mechanic got paid for, while sitting on his ass). My brother would come to him for guidance, and be told to check off the work as finished, even when it wasn't. Many times, he would look at a part that had to be replaced, and it would be functioning perfectly. Other times, scheduled maintenance was never done, but charged to the customer.
He quit, and went through two or three other dealerships before finding one that was honest (a Lincoln Mercury shop). They unfortunately went out of business, so he opened his own shop.
