You Don't Need a Weatherman To Know Which Way the Wind is Blowing

But it sure helps if you have an animated map showing the prevailing wind direction and speed across the US as of 9pm EST tonight.

And it sure is windy in southern Nevada and Colorado - I wonder what that says about Utah? Hot smile

Tomasky: Dietary Freedom Is Slavery

Michael Tomasky of The Daily Beast, Newsweek's ugly sister, does not like fat people. He also did not like his father's 1974 Chrysler Imperial with a 7.2 liter engine. Abraham Lincoln also did not like his father's drunkenness and became a prohibitionist. On Sunday, Michael Tomasky took on what people eat. Apparently people eat too much for his taste. And he wants them to stop eating more than he thinks they should.

And the fact that people are allowed to eat as much movie popcorn as they want in this country drives him to anger and despair:

But the nut of the column is this, "Eating anything you want isn't a definition of freedom. It's just indulgence. And it says something depressing about our country that it is permitted to masquerade as the former."

Michael Tomasky had the temerity to write, "I do want us to understand how wrong and simple-minded our definition of freedom is today."

I've long argued with European friends that the freedom to be as 'stupid' as you wanna be is what real freedom actually is.

Does Your Vajayjay Need Rejuvenization?

"She must have a fat pussy," one of my guy friends said in between eating some french fries. It caught me a little off guard.  We were in the middle of a heated discussion about the Trayvon Martin case. I watched her pass and tried to let the statement go, but it bugged me. Eventually, I got the balls to just ask about his random and vulgar observation.

"What the hell is a fat vagina?" I said.

I was immediately barraged by a litany of vaginal anatomical descriptions and even a top 10 list of "celebrity bests" (Nicki Minaj got the number one spot). Supposedly, this "pussy fatness" specifically refers to the size of a woman's outer labia. I hadn't even known anyone thought so hard about women's vaginas, other than gynecologists. I had no idea that guys even considered vaginal appearance when rating a woman's beauty. After the discussion, I felt a little insecure. I wondered about my own vagina - was she "fat" or attractive enough?

Well puffy pussies do upset the Patriarchy.

46 The Finns are just crazy about music. They can't bang heads enough up there. I swear, odder people you will never meet. We had a couple of silly Finns stay at our place for a long weekend--they had come to sing in a choir concert--and they were so freaked out by the cheap availability of music and musical instruments that they spent their last kroner or whatever the hell they spend over there on sheet music and anything they could fit in a suitcase. And they did several choir pieces of head-banging metal, a capella. Nuts. The lot of them.

I would think America would have a greater proportion of metal bands.

And I think the scandis are overrepresented.  A lot of what they call metal seems more like an aggressive pop music.  Take Nightwish.  Kinda poppy but with the odd aggro crunch thrown in.  Mostly posing and shit like that.  Scowl, grimace, have long hair, ggrrrrr arg...

I enjoy being made aware of the insipid vulgarity of an intellectual nihilist like Michael Tomasky.  I enjoy knowing that such sanctimonius assholes exist to continue to torture the written word and wreak havoc on the weak-willed and feeble minded about us, sometimes called "progressives".

In the same weekend as the intellectual idiocy of Tomasky is published and promoted, John Derbyshire is brutally criticized for writing about the practical advice he has to offer his Anglo-Asian children on preventing them from a violent racial confrontation.

So the newest crime wave here in my previously fairly crime free suburb is criminals are waiting in the parking lot of a movie theater and when you go in, they are breaking in the car, getting your address from your registration, stealing your garage door opener and heading to your house to rob you blind while you enjoy your 2 hour show.

Fucking criminals. Someone is going to end up hurt, because someone is going to be home and not at the movies with the rest of the family. I just hope it won't be kids left home while their parents go see a movie that end up hurt or dead.

For a few decades now, that city's cultural movers have embraced rock and roll, some say as a means to bring two rival cultures together by embracing a "third way," while others say that as a predominantly-Christian region, Shillong is merely embracing Westernism in its most obvious form.  Either way, it's got to be one of the oddest places on Earth.

Why--because they have a reputation to protect they are nonpartisan, and even more importantly they make their money polling for businesses. Most polling companies that we follow are in the business to make "headlines"--they sell their services to the media. The Field Poll- does not. they also use large sample sizes and interview in twelve different languages. Their methodology if you look at their results is beyond compare. Historically their predictions--for elective offices-- have been amazingly accurate. Most often within 2% points , IIRC. Now unfortunately two things--they do not publish or conduct polls very often--and-- they only poll in California.

"So, is Zimmerman going suicidal, or just nuts?"

My guess is that Zimmerman received a threat that he believed from people he knew about, or were told about by credible people he knew ... Maybe he was located: his lawyers told him he was safe where he was, but they were wrong ...

... it could just be the strain. Some very powerful people (from Z's standpoint) want Z's head on a stick, and virtually no one is standing up for him ... the legal system is undecided, or, judging by the Grand Jury comment, considering an indictment. Z may have come to believe that innocence is no defense. But running makes him look "not innocent".

As I posted in FB, one good thing thing about the Ozzie Guillen kerfuffle is that it's probably educating a lot of Americans, especially baseball fans, on how Castro's Cuba is not the socialist paradise libtards (especially in Hollywood) make it out to be. And even though Guillen was a jackass and said stupid things, it's much better that he was only suspended instead of canned, because it offers him a teachable moment and keeps the story going.

I don't think any of us have walked in his shoes. I'm not surprised he is in a cave so deep that no one can find him. On the other hand, having your lawyers bail publicly is strange. No shoot-downs, no threats, just a phone call or two and a clear demonstration of Asia-Pacific power by the country that should, by this time, be starting to swing it's meat around in a big way in that area of the world. 246 One of the original DEAD END KIDS, HALLY CHESTER, who also produced “The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms” is dead at 91. Alternately known as HAL CHESTER, HAL E. CHESTER,  he was born Harold Ribotsky in Brooklyn, New York, on March 6 1921, the son of a real estate developer who went bust during the Wall Street crash of 1929. Chester wanted a career in show business and from an early age was employed as a magician’s assistant on Coney Island, He also earned money for his family as a runner on Wall St and selling newspapers. Adopting the stage name Hally Chester he became one of “The Dead End Kids” along with Huntz Hall and Leo Gorcey appearing in Sidney Kingsley’s hit Broadway play “Dead End” in 1935. 313 "Hahahahaha! Be sure to say hello to Marie Antoinette in the morning. I give it 2 days before he's demanding a transfer or quits." Well the MD and I talked about that a bit too, I expressed some concern given recent events that they might not be too thrilled with the situation and I didn't want it to have a negative effect on production. Her thought process was pretty straight forward, we have a new training class starting next week and I'll be getting the majority of them when the graduate from training. So if che-boy and the bots don't want to work for me and keep their noses clean, they can be replaced. From looking at their numbers today they are all pretty borderline anyway in most categories and the company won't consider any of them to be a big loss. From the looks of things the old supervisor loaded his team with a lot of people he liked personally and didn't really worry to much about anything else, so the standards have been pretty lax for a while now. Guess some folks are in for a big surprise tomorrow. The MD more or less gave me a free hand in getting the team turned around and the numbers back up - that includes an envelope full of pink slips I can pretty much hand out at my own discretion.

Well I have a team meeting scheduled for tomorrow morning, they gave me a conference room and plan to have the entire team off the floor for an hour. I plan on having a one on one with Che-boy immediately after the team meeting. I'm going to sit him down and explain to him that whatever happened before happened before and has no bearing on what happens next. The focus here is simple. All I care about is getting the production numbers where they need to be, nothing else really matters. As long as he leaves his politics at home and his numbers start improving we won't have a problem. If he needs my help he'll get it because he's part of my team. We don't have to be best buddies but we do have to work together. I plan on telling this to each of the che-bots in turn, and we'll go from there.

Well, as to how Machiavellian my firm is, as far as I can tell not at all. We all work in the same department more or less, my previous job function was to more or less handle problems that were considered too difficult for the average agent to handle. Their are only a small number of us that fulfill this function. Is it possible that might be their thought process? I guess it's possible. From what I saw today though if I wanted to clean house and fire the entire team I'd have more than enough reason to do so already. As a team and as individuals they haven't made the required numbers in months so I'd have a pretty solid case for firing any or all of them based on failure to meet standards with no other documentation needed. From what the MD told me they were aware the team had been under performing for a while and they have talked to the previous supervisor several times, they were trying to give them a chance to turn it around. So could this be an elaborate setup? Ok, maybe.. I suppose. But if such is the case I guess I'll just have to cross that bridge when I come to it.

I have not been getting enough sleep that it is worth moving to the bed and gettin resituated and falling asleep again so I was sleeping on the couch for about ten days. the couch is too short, too narrow, to hot, to uncomfortable in every way, and leaves lines on my face - and they do not correspond to the ones on the mirror. So, now I have time to sleep in our bed and I cannot sleep there any more. The worst week of sleep I can remember is the last week I slept in my bed. too hot, too cold, to crowded, I wake up tired and sore. Right now I am looking longingly at my couch knowing we cannot be together tonight an I will have to go into the bedroom and sleep in my bed. sigh.

I plan on having a one on one with Che-boy immediately after the team meeting.

I'd plan on having a witness or two there ...

I'm going to sit him down and explain to him that whatever happened before happened before and has no bearing on what happens next..

I'd really plan on having a witness or two there ... and be extremely careful what you say.

The focus here is simple.  ...

... I plan on telling this to each of the che-bots in turn, and we'll go from there..

I'd really plan on having a witness or two there ... like maybe HR.

And, yes, sharpening up your resume isn't a bad idea. I have no clue whether they want to lose you or not, but I'd err greatly on the side of caution. There may still be other players around, existing liabilities that the talisman of "your scalp" would ward off, etc. Moving on in a year might not be a bad idea anyway.

If it's a matter of they didn't do X# of jobs per week and there is no wiggle room for 'he hates me and is not being fair' accusations then it might be less worrisome. " Nope, most of it is pretty cut and dried really. You either complete enough cases per hour, or you don't. You either have a high accuracy rate, or you don't. You either have good feedback from customers, or you don't. You either have a good attendance record, or you don't. They handed me a team of 15 agents, of the 15 only two are meeting minimum acceptable standards in more of 2 of those categories. So ya, I've got my hands full.. lol. But on the upside Hummingbird got a serious giggle out of the whole thing when I told her what had happened. We went out to dinner with my Supervisor.. well I guess now my previous supervisor since as of tomorrow I won't be on her team anymore.. but at any rate we went out to dinner with her and her husband to celebrate. Got some good tips from her, a few ideas of my own, and I guess we'll just figure out the rest as we go.

379 This American Thinker piece ought to raise some eyebrows:

Most of us have heard about how the media won't report on black-on-white crime.  We also may know that authorities sometimes sweep it under the rug due to political pressure, usually with a wink and a nod.  But not so in rural Alabama, where the police actually told a white crime victim that they "don't mess" with a local black motorcycle gang.

http://tinyurl.com/csfn5y6

In short, this white guy driving a truck pissed off a black motorcycle gang member, a gang of 30-40 of them chased him down and stabbed him repeatedly, he lived, the cops won't do anything about it.

Where's Holder and the DOJ? Besides sucking some NBPP cock, that is.

But I guess my focus is going to be on turning this team around and pulling it out of the toilet. If this is part of some next level grandmaster scheme - well not a whole ton I can do about that anyway. The MD went out of her way for me and she just doesn't strike me as that sort of person, and honestly if that is something that is coming down from above her level? Well they can cook my goose pretty much anytime they wish so what the hell. I'll be mindful of it of course, but in the meantime the MD has asked me to turn this team around and get them back on track. So for now at least that will be my focus. If I end up pounding the pavement and looking for a new job, well so be it. I always knew that was a real possibility even when this first started.

399 " Just remember retaliation is a cause of action whether of merit or not." Ok, well not a legal beagle myself so I generally don't think in those terms. I can tell you that usually when they promote someone to supervisor it is normally from my section unless they find someone who is very highly qualified from the outside. Generally speaking though they generally take their best agents and move them over to do what I do and then promote from that pool when a supervisory position becomes available. So the promotion itself is not really completely out of left field. As to my team composition, well it's the team that the previous supervisor assembled. If I really wanted to I'd be willing to bet I could walk into the MD's office tomorrow and have che-boy and any of the others I wanted moved to another team. I really don't get the impression this is a setup, and if it is I just can't see that the MD is involved. She just really doesn't strike me as that sort. So for now I'm going to do the job she offered me today to the best of my ability and take it from there. Yes, I could be very wrong about all of this, but frankly even if I am it won't really matter. I won't live my life waiting for the next shoe to drop.

402 Big question is can I take a team of 15 and get their numbers where they need to be? Well, you do have 3 things going for you. The first two now relate to your team...namely 1) the economy sucks (and they know it) and 2) they probably for the most part enjoy collecting paychecks. Hence, despite all the past animous, they have a financial incentive to go along. The third thing is that you seem to have a good head on your shoulder and a good approach. It is always smart to get input and ideas from other like your now former supervisor....demonstrates that your not a "my way or the highway" guy and that you are a team player. As someone who used to be a trial lawyer (years ago.....I do taxes now...and yes, it is by far and away more enjoyable) a few suggestions. 1: someone mentioned this earlier, but it is probably best not to have any conversations one on one with che boy. Granted, his credibility seems weak, but always avoid the he said/he said bs. 2, Document everything. Set objective goals and note who does and does not meet them. 3. Document your own success. If your numbers go up 5%, figure out a way (discretly, of course) to have it noted. The best defense is a good offense. Posted by: Mallamutt, RINO President for Life at April 11, 2012 12:35 AM (OWjjx) probably not. if they were worth anything they would be doing better than they are now. under-performance is not exclusively a management problem

431 Kids grow up so fast these days. I had to take my wife to the orthopedist today, and there was a little girl, about 6. She had a naked Ken and Barbie, and she was putting them into rude positions. Her mom said, "You gotta be careful, or else you'll end up with little plastic babies!"

Without looking up, she replied, "Nuh-uh! He's doing her up the ass!"

My wife and I looked at each other to make sure we heard it right. What a trip to the doctor!

No matter what happens from here I'm good. I've got some great friends and the best damn woman on the whole planet (no offense meant to the other 'ettes of course) out of the deal. As a result even if I lost my job tomorrow it wouldn't matter one iota. The other thing of course is that my MD strikes me as being a real stand up gal, and I just don't see her being involved in something like that. Since she runs the whole facility, if this is happening above her level and she's not involved? Well then I'm already fried and there isn't a thing in the world I could do about it anyway. So I'm going to do the job she asked me to do, which is going to be incredibly ironic if nothing else. I figure what the hell, I could always use a little more irony in my life.. lol

other that CPU, no

Posted by: The Dude at April 10, 2012 09:06 PM (M8yfa)

455 "is there any advantage in going with a high end gaming machine for number crunching?" Kind of depends on what apps your using really. Intel I5 and I7 will give you the best speeds overall but as far as bang for your buck AMD is hard to beat. While they are not as fast usually as the top of the line intels, the price vrs performance is very hard to beat, the motherboards and processors are generally significantly cheaper. So for most general applications I usually recommend you go with an AMD system and spend some extra on memory and maybe a good SSD or hybrid drive. Just my 2 cents worth of course.

474 "The greatest triumph would be to win them over and bend them to your will rather than break them. And if it doesn't work out, shoot 'em." Well I'll double check the HR manual but I'm pretty sure they have a rule or a guideline or something in there that will prevent me from performing executions, even if it is to improve morale. If nothing else it will be interesting, the team I have is pretty much the bottom of the barrel. I'll be getting a lot of new hires in a few weeks, which is good, but it's also a double edge sword because I'll need to do a quick turn around on at least a good portion of the current team or I run the risk of having their bad habits contaminating the new folks coming in when they finish training. So ya, I'll be busier than a one legged man in a butt kicking contest for the next few weeks.. lol

I've been taking another look at the I5's myself, I'll be building a new system soon and I need an intel processor since it will be running Mac OSX. I haven't had problems with AMD and memory myself, but I generally buy the memory recommended for the motherboard and as such haven't run into any issues.

These days, yes. An increasing number of major apps know how to enlist the GPU for high performance computation. The tools for doing this yourself in your own coding have gotten pretty good.

There has always been a lot of crossover between high-end gaming and workstations but now the video subsystem matters for more than visualization.

507 "I still have the POS if someone wants to take a chance on it for cheap." Sorry to hear that, the AMD's I've built have all been rock solid with no issues at all, but the last one I built was a quad core. I do a lot of 3d work so I'm always looking to get something a little faster, etc - I was looking at building a hackintosh for my next go around so I'm pricing Intel's now. I'm sure if you part it out though and sell it on Ebay you could get a pretty decent return on your investment.

Sell them separately, and just mention in the ad the problems you ran into - I'm sure you'll still get a good price for both and you won't be "cheating" anyone as long as your honest about the issues you had.

Maybe it was simply a bad match. It very well could be that there is a motherboard made for your processor and a processor made for your motherboard, and they could go off together and each could set up in a case with some RAM, run a few cycles, and live happily ever after....

It very well could be that there is a motherboard made for your processor and a processor made for your motherboard, and they could go off together and each could set up in a case with some RAM, run a few cycles, and live happily ever after...." That would be my guess, not all motherboards will work properly with all processors even if they say they will. My guess is if you dropped a quad core into that MB it would work fine, and if you took the six core and used an entirely different MB it would be fine too. Other thing I would do is maybe check and see if there is a BIOS update available for the motherboard, dollars to donuts that's where the problem lies.

541 @546- True, but short of getting multiple processors, motherboards and sets of RAM, I have no way of knowing. Even if I did, I'm not going to put in the time. What bugs me is that AMD knew they had an issue with their memory controller, but many months later hadn't fixed it. Then again, it could've been motherboard related. I simply decided that my time and frustration wasn't woth it anymore. I hope AMD continues to compete, but not with anymore of my money till they get their shit together.

Some very interesting stuff there.  For instance, did you know the FBI had illegally obtained recordings of MLK and his top aides having sex parties with underage white girls? Allegedly.

Anyway, there's a bunch of interesting stuff in those letters. I started in 2006 and have been slowly working my way forward. He write looooong letters.

Here's where I am at right now -- you go to the top of each letter and can shift forward/backward from there:

Try this...

Build a giant trap.

While the bear is consuming the greentard, sneak up behind it with a knife.

Rape bear at knifepoint.

As word spreads among the bear community, no bear will ever seek to bother you again.

I bought a prebuilt system from Gateway years and years ago and it was the biggest POS on the planet. The only reason I went prebuilt was I wanted something I wouldn't have to mess around with, got the warranty, the whole nine yards. I had so many problems with that piece of crap and so many problems that Gateway never did resolve that I haven't purchased anything from them to this day. Had a chance to buy a gateway laptop used dirt cheap - and walked away from it because I was still that disgusted with the brand. So yup, I get where your coming from. I still have had good luck with the AMD's I've built and as far as price vrs performance they have been very good machines overall for me.

Yeah, there are some 180 grain loads for the 30 06 that are rated for brown bear. But if there's a chance you will run into a grizzly, that ain't enough. I'd prefer a tactical nuke for those situations.

616 My sister and her family left today.

They were here six days and I didn't want to murder anyone at the end.

I think that's progress!

Well, there was that one moment the first night.

And my nieces both seem to be entertained at the notion of pounding on the bathroom door while I take a shit.

Otherwise?  I breezed through it.

Thank God.

And my cat is fucking thrilled.

She hates them.  All of them.  I think if she were bigger and had thumbs she might murder them in their sleep.

She was running around all day happy as a lamb that she got her house back all to herself.

628 Scanning the blog (I do that occasionally) I read Ace's post about Ashley Judd.

Awesome.

And true.

But he didn't mention Ashley Judd is only famous because she's a Judd.  She's not even that good looking.

I think I've seen one movie starring her once.  My allergies were kicking my ass and I needed to get out.  Then an ad for some movie with Ashley Judd and Wolverine came on and she was in her panties.  Well, there ya go.

Fucking date movie.

And it was a piece of shit.

And the panty scene didn't actually last much longer than in the ad.

And so on and so forth.

I think I'd have just simply replied to Judd's inane ramblings with, "Fuck you, Puffy Face!"  That's why I'm not an in-tel-eck-shoo-uhl.

Also, Winona Judd?

Swollen like a fucking tick.

And too many facelifts.

Tick with a plastic face.

Ifill announced "Martin, who was black, was on his way to a convenience store in a mostly white gated community when George Zimmerman, who is white, shot and killed him after a disputed altercation." Martin was painted as “carrying only candy and a soft drink" and "was discovered by police lying face down in the grass.”
