Since I'm travelling and kinda sick you're gonna get a hodgepodge of Le Suc. And like it.
This is the story of the great war that Rikki-tikki-tavi fought single-handed, through the bath-rooms of the big bungalow in Segowlee cantonment. Darzee, the Tailorbird, helped him, and Chuchundra, the musk-rat, who never comes out into the middle of the floor, but always creeps round by the wall, gave him advice, but Rikki-tikki did the real fighting. He was a mongoose, rather like a little cat in his fur and his tail, but quite like a weasel in his head and his habits. His eyes and the end of his restless nose were pink. He could scratch himself anywhere he pleased with any leg, front or back, that he chose to use. He could fluff up his tail till it looked like a bottle brush, and his war cry as he scuttled through the long grass was: "Rikk-tikk-tikki-tikki-tchk!"
It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen.
Someone must have slandered Josef K., for one morning, without having done anything truly wrong, he was arrested.
It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.
He was one hundred and seventy days dying and not yet dead. He fought for survival with the passion of a beast in a trap. He was delirious and rotting, but occasionally his primitive mind emerged from the burning nightmare of survival into something resembling sanity. Then he lifted his mute face to Eternity and muttered: "What's a matter, me? Help, you goddamn gods! Help, is all."
Many years later, as he faced the firing squad, Colonel Aureliano Buendia was to remember that distant afternoon when his father took him to discover ice.
Everybody with a gun has a check-point in Lebanon. And in Lebanon you'd be crazy not to have a gun. Though, I assure you, all the crazy people have guns, too.
On the morning the last Lisbon daughter took her turn at suicide - it was Mary this time, and sleeping pills, like Therese - the two paramedics arrived at the house knowing exactly where the knife drawer was, and the gas oven, and the beam in the basement from which it was possible to tie a rope
It was a dark and stormy night; the rain fell in torrents, except at occasional intervals, when it was checked by a violent gust of wind which swept up the streets (for it is in London that our scene lies), rattling along the house-tops, and fiercely agitating the scanty flame of the lamps that struggled against the darkness.
Just Another Word For Grilled Meat
23-year-old Shin Dong-hyuk is the only known person to have been born into a North Korean prison camp and escape.
As a prisoner, Shin was not allowed to eat the meat of any livestock on the farm. But he and other prisoners could sometimes steal. The smell of roasting pork on the farm would alert guards, leading to beatings and weeks of half-rations, so they ate purloined pork raw.
Much of what Park [a prisoner who had lived abroad] talked about, especially at the beginning, was difficult for Shin to understand or care about. What delighted him-what he kept begging Park for-were stories about food and eating. These were the stories that kept Shin up at night fantasizing about a better life. Freedom, in Shin's mind, was just another word for grilled meat.
The Great Gas Pump Post-It Note Revolt
Unhappy with Obama and his oil policies and got some post-it notes? Then join the movement:
Prompted by social media, some people are now affixing Post-It notes to the gas pump when they fill up, with messages like this one reminding anyone who reads it just how much the cost of gasoline has skyrocketed since Obama became president. It remains to be seen if that effort will truly gather steam. But if it does, it could be a game-changer in the campaign.
Located in the heart of the Southern Alps in New Zealand, the site offers luxury tented glamping amid a picturesque glacial valley. The remote location is only accessible by air, where guests are flown in by helicopter before being escorted to their luxuriously furnished tented suite. While the accommodation is constructed from canvas tents and the property classifies itself as a "camp," this nature retreat has little in common with the traditional camping experience.

But just as Teddy was stooping, something wriggled a little in the dust, and a tiny voice said: "Be careful. I am Death!" It was Karait, the dusty brown snakeling that lies for choice on the dusty earth; and his bite is as dangerous as the cobra's. But he is so small that nobody thinks of him, and so he does the more harm to people.

I know the feeling in part, we've been juggling care for my wife's disabled mother for several years now (she's only turning 60 this year.) Finally we couldn't work with her family anymore (my FIL is a bit of a..erg..hard nut to crack.) so we had to walk away for at least a bit, get on with our lives and such.

Actually, it's worse than that. Reductions in the marginal income tax rate result in increased revenue to the treasury. Tax cuts more than "pay for" themselves! It's been true every time it's been tried. (of course, at some point, revenue does decrease with a decrease in marginal tax rates, but that rate is lower than any we've had in modern times.)

---The problem is it's almost true. Which would be in italics if pixy's buttons worked. Tax cuts alone don't change the fact that the federal government still goes ahead and spends the money so your deficit still increases by roughly the amount of the cut.
The problem is we argue over tax cuts for us and more spending for Dems, but we're really arguing over whether the money they're borrowing is allocated to existing programs (diminishing the pain of the bloat to taxpayers) vs. more programs. The truth is we shouldn't be borrowing. At. All.

OK, I keep seeing all these articles about how e-books don't really save publishers money because they still have to pay for author advances and marketing and office space and yada yada and how the cost of the book was never really about the paper or shipping. Which to a certain extent OK. But, a large part of the cost publishers eat is their odd mechanism of printing a bunch of copies of books, sending them to bookstores and then allowing bookstores to return unsold copies and get money back for them. e-books alleviate that.
I just think that it seems like publishers should actually be able to sell e-books for less. And these days with social media and other types of marketing, not to mention the fact that everyone and their grandmother has a blog, that marketing shouldn't be a huge cost.
Oh and fuck them very much in terms of author advances because maybe if they weren't a bunch of star fucking whores who happily pay people like Paris Hilton way too much money for their stupid inane thoughts maybe they wouldn't be bleeding money out every opening.

What is my marketable skill? I provide world-class customer service in a variety of environments.
Also, I write a little. I'm not being modest, I really don't write all that well.
In some magical Bizarro-future, I would like to be paid for giving my opinion. In particular, I would like to work for a think tank or become a Congressional staffer, so that I can work to pass good legislation and stop bad legislation on a Federal level.
That's a wish.

That's the game that's being played. Oh, we charged him but that icky icky judge let him off! The thing is that the prosecutor may find herself facing some sticky ethical problems because, in theory, it's an ethical violation for a prosecutor to bring charges that are not well grounded. Violate Rule Number One (Never piss off the judge) hard enough and the judge probably has the discretion to press an ethics charge.
I know utterly nothing about Florida law and I suck at criminal law in general, but there may also be an issue with all the lesser included charges being heaved as well. Going for second degree only is a serious risk.

"One minute it was Ohio winter, with doors closed, windows locked, the panes blind with frost, icicles fringing every roof, children skiing on slopes, housewives lumbering like great black bears in their furs along the icy streets.
And then a long wave of warmth crossed the small town. A flooding sea of hot air; it seemed as if someone had left a bakery door open. The heat pulsed among the cottages and bushes and children. The icicles dropped, shattering, to melt. The doors flew open. The windows flew up. The children worked off their wool clothes. The housewives shed their bear disguises. The snow dissolved and showed last summer's ancient green lawns"

Good evening, good people.Fun time yesterday along with nearly 600 people stocking brown trout at the park.
There was a raft of kids and a miscellany of buckets, many of which actually held water. Each kid was given a trout and herded down to the small brook that flows through. Of course several dozen fell into the foot and a half of COLD water, resulting in much merriment.
We (grandkids and I) had 2 buckets, one that had a hole, and I watched older granddaughter do something that made me swell with pride. She gave her turn up so that her sister could participate. I do love that child.

Turned out not to be twins, just one girl, but she got one and my grandson here in NC that was born 2 days later got the other one. Shame they couldn't have had their picture taken together, but the one is here and the other is in Wyoming. They will both be 1 this year. Daemion is too big for his now, he's a big kid. Kind of spoiled though, I don't know how that happened...

We had a nice little chat, not about the recent craziness this time but rather about my employment history and management experience. I was offered a new job today, seems they were looking for a new daytime supervisor and decided I'd be a good fit for the position.
So, at 8 am tomorrow, I become che-boy's supervisor.
How's that for a kick in the head?

Well the MD and I talked about that a bit too, I expressed some concern given recent events that they might not be too thrilled with the situation and I didn't want it to have a negative effect on production.
Her thought process was pretty straight forward, we have a new training class starting next week and I'll be getting the majority of them when the graduate from training. So if che-boy and the bots don't want to work for me and keep their noses clean, they can be replaced. From looking at their numbers today they are all pretty borderline anyway in most categories and the company won't consider any of them to be a big loss.
From the looks of things the old supervisor loaded his team with a lot of people he liked personally and didn't really worry to much about anything else, so the standards have been pretty lax for a while now.
Guess some folks are in for a big surprise tomorrow. The MD more or less gave me a free hand in getting the team turned around and the numbers back up - that includes an envelope full of pink slips I can pretty much hand out at my own discretion.

Here are my reasons:
1) Obamacare- This is life or death and I don't want the government determining my health decisions.
2)Hillary Rosen's attacks on Ann Romney was an attack on my family. This is a red line the Left crossed
3) Gary Johnson has no shot at winning.
5) Judges
4) Obama is an all round asshole.
I still have my beefs with the Republican Party since it enables bigots, but they are like Chihuahuas and can't live out their genocide fantasies. I am armed anyway (Shhh, don't tell Rahm Emanuel), so if these inbred racists even try to go that route, they will be in for a shock. I was born here and can't be deported to Brazil or Italy as much as these white trash scum want me gone.
I am putting my differences aside and will vote against the Chi-Town hustler and send him back to Hyde Park. I am doing this for the greater good for America.
Down with Obama!

As the only moron who has actually had lunch with a Koch (in his office in Wichita, back in 1986), I'd be glad to put in a good word...
I got a oil farmout from him for 3000 acres in Winkler County Texas that his dad Fred (as Rock ISland Oil) had bought and drilled back in the 1940's. He invidted me to lunch and we just sat around for an hour, talking about politics. Very engaging gentleman.
btw - the wells I drilled were the best ones I ever drilled and they are still pumping out oil. Sad to say, I had to sell them when I sold my company back in 1989, but they did very well for me , nonetheless.
The Kochs are great liberty-loving people. Fuck the JEF cocksucker to say otherwise.

But you have one ear cocked to the door to the basement, because your mom's boyfriend might sneak downstairs (your mom is passed out drunk) and try to fuck you in the ass.

My job occasionally takes me to our long term care facility and we have quite a few Huntington's Disease patients. We are one of a handful of facilities that take them in California. Its devastating. What drives us crazy is we can have three generations of a family in the facility at once. They knew they had Huntington's but still had children. Its a early death sentence and it angers you and breaks your heart all at once.

That is tragic, mpfs. Yet one has to feel (or pray) that they are coming closer to a cure to these autoimmune neurological diseases.
And the prognoses are so varied. My uncle lasted 10 months from his diagnosis, his daughter, less than two years others, like Senator Javetz and Stephen Hawkings can have it for decades.
But most importantly, thank you so much. Be well!

Tell me about it. I've been registered as a Libertarian from when I turned 18 to 2009, 'cause I was thinking the purity of the vision would help lead people to real solutions.......
In 2008, we got Pelosi, Obama, and Reid. We weren't talking about the difference between Joe Lieberman and Zell Miller on one side, and Richard Nixon and John McCain on the other......we were talking about f'ing Pelosi, f'ing Obama, and the Undertaker.
I changed my registration to Republican because I'd rather contribute to the GOP and try to influence it, than see the statist Dems destroy the country while I was earnestly arguing about the way toilet paper should come off the roll.

Fair enough. But I do have 3 requests of you , if you don't mind ...
1) If you actually do go out with a bang at Hot Air, you'll post something memorable ... long enough to be noticed, nothing that will be immediately deleted, etc.,
2) If you actually do go out with a bang at Hot Air, you'll stick around there for a few comment exchanges, not just flounce and bounce,
3) With Ace's permission, you'll post a notice here, smetng that gets noticed by whomever is on-line (and preferably not between 12midnight and 8:00AM Eastern Time), perhaps 60 minutes befor you flounce at Hot Air.

I usually do vote Republican. But I was turned off to he demonization of Latinos as all being illegal and evil. So I drifted and was planning to vote for Gary Johnson. Then the attack on Ann Romney hit home. I want to make enough money so my wife doesn't have to work. The attacks on her were just so wrong, it shook me to the core. I will gladly vote for Mitt Romney in November.,
Oh, give it up. Want some advice? Write a three page essay on why your second sentence makes no sense.

Friendship with Blow requires patience for his rigid, often puzzling personal codes. He enjoys talking, but abhors idle conversation and is intensely private. He goes out dancing several nights a week, yet the suggestion of visiting the same club for a beer will elicit a lengthy anti-bar diatribe. “You’re poisoning yourself with alcohol,” Blow vented, as Hecker smiled knowingly beside him. “You’re kind of socializing, but the loud music prevents you from actually communicating. It’s all set up to help people socialize who don’t feel comfortable being honest about why they’re there. It freaks me out. Just understand what you’re doing, and do it.”
“Hold on,” I objected. “Are you saying people at bars should just walk up to each other and say, ‘I would like to have sexual intercourse with you’?”
“I think we could live a lot closer to a truthful existence and we’d all be better off,” he replied.

Posted by: Merovign, Dark Lord of the Sith at April 13, 2012 12:12 AM (bxiXv)
I stopped reading HA a couple years ago because their commentariat wasn't any better than you'd find on a sports blog, entertainment site, etc. The S/N ratio was about 0.05, with a mountain of misspelled emotional factless bullshit and anecdotal crap, when the yes-men weren't clapping like trained seals. AoS is home because the commentors are generally a cut above.
Regarding trolls, I can smell them a mile away, except Joe. He has talent and a unique style...on the occasions where I see a too-perfect troll post, I start looking for hidden letters. For whatever reason, I find his particular inanity interesting. Better than the cat lady or Ray, at any rate.

I actually gotta agree with Shockwave here, kinda sorta. I've noticed that the comments section at HotAir, when the topics refer to Hispanics (or latinos or chicanos or whatever the PC phrase of the day is), take a decidedly ignorant turn. I finally came to the conclusion that Hot Air commentors were bottom of the barrel low-lifes.

Ok. You might want to re-read the HotAir link you supplied ... after you've read up on the laws in, say Mexico, concerning illegal immigration, and specifically, how the Mexican government views illegal immigration across its southern border. You might also do a bit of research on how the Mexican government views its citizens moving to the US ... Don't forget to read up on MS-13, MEChA ...
You might want to get a thicker skin, learn to deal with intellectually-honest discussion and criticism ... and be able to face some self-criticsm as well. Read the comments as they are posted, not as you would like them to be. Admittedly, the comments at Hot Air are extremely short, but they are not racist ... not even a little.

I would think we'd string him along until he blurted out something like saying he “made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs.” That way, we could figure out his cause, ignorance, delusion, level of demonic possession, or duplicity.
I wouldn't go so far as to opine that all his particulars sound particularly genuine.....but I haven't seen anything that couldn't adequately be explained away.

Hot AIr is the GOP establishment blog. They allow racist coments towards Latinos. They direct it more at Mexicans, but to these bigots I as a Brazilian am not that far removed. I just hate it no one at Hot Air stand up to the racists.
It looks like the truth appears ...
I've heard words expressing beliefs and thoughts that are extremely similar to these few sentences .... where was it?
Ahhhhh, I remember... a couple of years ago, at a high school in Morgan Hill California, concerning a kid who wore a t-shirt with the American flag to school, right around the local Cinco de Mayo celebration. I think there's a thread or two on it at Hot Air.
Take-away quote, towards the end of one of the source links ... apparently, all flag displays were banned by the school, and one of the Hispanic students then called the American student(s) racists, his words written in the same manner as Shockwave's #753, and complained that they had nowhere to display their flag ... the Mexican Flag.
Shockwave, simply making assertions is insufficient, you need to make a logical argument. You have failed ... actually, you haven't even tried ... tell me that such an argument is not beyond you.
Name-calling is all that you've done, and pointed to legitimate comments and criticism and tried to de-legitimize it. It doesn't work here in the US; no one is buying.

What? Generalize much?
I had an Argentine painter working for me for awhile. No one worked harder or cared more about the quality of his work. Funny thing was one day he was bitching to me about a team of painters on some other project that he thought were pretty slow and worthless. He leaned over to me and whispered "I think they are Mexicans."
Up until then it had never occurred to me that one nationality that I think of as Latino might look down on another nationality that I think of as Latino. I guess I learn something new all the time.

However, I believe the comparison to Reagan 1980 is strained. Reagan won the pop. vote by 10 percent and the EV by a landslide. Nothing like that is very likely for a Republican now.
Look very carefully at the last five presidential elections. D won three comfortably while R won two relative squeakers. These more recent results are indicative of very real changes that likely preclude a 1980, much less 1984 style Republican victory.
Obama's floor is somewhere between 44 to 48. This is the "locked in" percent a Democrat now has due to being the party of government. This is the taking class, they range from the absurdly enriched to grubbing supplicants. And they are growing every day.
Until Republicans are willing to truly confront the Democrat regime of publicly funded spoils, they are on the road to extinction.

Thing is, coming over to the sensible side is a heckuva paradigm shift. You've been relying on the news since childhood -- oh, what, they're full of it? You went through years and years of school -- wait, you don't know that much that's useful, but a substantial part of what you think is indoctrination? And it can be touched off by a little thing after a succession of big things ignored -- one of them "preference cascade" doodle-ee-watchers. So as you try to fit things back together logically, you still follow illogical "rules-of-thumb" from your indoctrinated days. So the poor sap continues to spew "racism" or knee-jerk leftism or MSM talking points, even as he concedes that the people who told him these things are wrong and never held his best interests in high regard.
Again, I'm not saying I believe anything -- but there may be a moment in his future where he says something like, "wait -- I don't need to cling to bogus credentials here".......would that make him more or less credible?

Your concern is noted, but only Obama won "comfortably". Clinton won with less that 50% both times because of a strong 3rd party running on the conservative line. Obama won because the economy and the markets did a free fall the 3 months before the election, not because of the strength of the Democrat party.

Heh. Yeah, no one likes Mexicans.
Latino is a bullshit term anyway. Hispanic at least means "Of Spain". But trying to tie diverse nationalities together simply because they all speak the same language is BS. Mexicans aren't Cubans aren't Argies etc etc etc. Each country has different histories settled by different people over long stretches of time. This tends to be ignored by the left who love ghettoizing people for their own ends.

It's not a line in the sand so much as a blocking maneuver to stop a blatanly corrupt DOJ in it's tracks. If FL prosecutes on murder, while simultaneously presenting the case that it wasn't racially motivated, they protect an innocent citizen from an unethical federal prosecution.
It's like the navy Commander that gave the order to take out the Somali pirates. He was rumored to have used a "liberal" interpretation of Obama's orders to take action. Even if that story is apocryphal it applies here. The DOJ came down threatening to make a Federal case out of the whole ordeal based on race. So FL steps up the charge to an unprovable murder 2 after lesser charges had already been declined as an opportunity to showcase the lack of racial motivation and murder (or lesser homicide). Unfortunately, like the Commander, they have to walk an ethical tightrope to do it.
But from a standpoint of justice, they can either decline the charges and feed him to the federal wolves where he's set up as a scapegoat, or put him through a wringer where he has an opportunity to defend himself against somewhat reasonable charges.

I remember my manager of the time asking me about the wars in the Balkans, since he knew I was Croatian. He just couldn't understand what they could be fighting out! Weren't all the peoples pretty much the same? Didn't they pretty much understand the same language?
Well yeah, about the same as three different religions, two different alphabets, and histories that didn't converge until effin' 1918 could make you. Sometimes being mutually intelligible just means the argument escalates that much quicker.

I don't know FL law, so I don't know if a jury can choose to convict on a lesser charge. The overcharge sure looks like a way to let someone walk while pretending to do otherwise.
On another note, I have an enjoyable image in my brain where a judge calls that gaggle of press assholes into a courtroom and threatens them all with contempt for poisoning jury pools -- followed by locking a bunch of the assholes up for 18 months in pound-me-in-the-ass prison.

No special insurance expertise to offer here. If your equip is named specifically on a policy I would be pretty sure you are covered. I would suggest that you get photos (or maybe a video), write a list all the serial numbers, write a statement on provenance, and store the pix and writeups in a safety deposit box or something else that is secure outside the house. Actually that suggestion applies to all your good stuff musical or otherwise. It is a good idea to be able to prove what you own if anything happens to it.

One of those "true-life adventures" that make me laugh with just the memory......OK, so IRL, my last name is one of those classic Scotch/Irish ones that could be found on either side of the Firth of Clyde -- although my ancestry is very, very Irish -- evidently, I even had a great-aunt who fell out of a potato truck onto a pitchfork. One year, the BH and I decided to do a little vacay around Europe. We started out with a week in Firenze, but decided to reschedule part of our second week to Edinburgh -- so we called the Edinburgh Tourism Office to ask for help.
The deal is, they're only too happy to help us find a place to doss down, but we need to have 'em charge a deposit which gets credited back to our hotel bill. The hotel won't take a reservation without a deposit. So we go with a place called Jury's Inn -- a chain founded in Dublin -- and everything is settled. A week later, we get there, and we have a reservation.....but no deposit.
"You don't take reservations without deposits, do you?" "No, sir, we do not." "And you have the reservation booked, don't you?" "Yes, sir, we do." "So where's the deposit?" "Errrrrrr....."
So we ask when we check in, and they say they'll research it while we sleep. And as we head out in the morning, we ask how the research went........and they say, "what research?" So we explain everything from scratch and go out for the day to Loch Lomond while they research the issue. And we come back to the hotel at night and ask how the research went.......and they say, "what research?" So we explain everything from scratch and go to bed. And this goes on for three solid days.
Since we were going back to London the next day, I determined that things had to be settled this afternoon, so I decided to go back to the source and have a copy of my charge slip in my hand....and found out that the Edinburgh Tourism Office was about 75 feet from the lobby of the hotel. So I jaunted over there, and passed into the old-fashioned shop where a delightful Scottish grandmother was behind the counter. She had white hair, almost translucent skin, probably weighed 90 pounds soaking wet, and was so sweet -- I could have sat and had tea and biscuits with her forever.
So I go in, and she remembers me -- she had taken my information personally from Firenze and hoped that I've had a pleasant stay. And I explain that things have been very pleasant and we've seen so many things, but that the hotel had lost the deposit that logically must have accompanied the reservation, and that the morning and night staff of the hotel seem to commute in from different planets, and how I'd hoped to get some of the original documents to unravel the problem. And she turned to me and said: "well, I'm hardly surprised -- they're Irish, you know."
I've got to say that really changed my outlook on racism. I'm generations from the old country, growing up in California, and because of my name and that I'm visiting one country, I'm assumed to be enough "in the clan" for a sweet little-old-lady to disparage a larger part of my ancestors in an adjacent country.

I fear I am guilty of this to an extent with Yankees. Not ALL of them, but when I meet an especially nasty one, I blame it on that.

Perot got 19% in 92, and 8.4% in 96. Bush would have won in 92, and it would have been about 50/50 in 96.

either. I think Clinton woulda beat Dole either way, but I don't think
he had a shot at Bush 1 without the big eared munchkin making it happen
for him.
We'll never know, but I think if you look at the numbers Clinton 43%, Bush 38%, Perot 19%, and the electoral votes, Bush wasn't going to win that election.
Posted by: cm9000 at April 13, 2012 01:49 AM (MwTP4)
You do realize that the Dems lost seats in the House in the 92 election. A race that you say Billy Jeff would have won comfortably without Perot. The fact that the Dems lost seats in the House tells you that the majority of voters were Republican voters which means that Perot's vanity project gave us Cletus.

I never thought it would happen, but I have discovered that the combination of a digital piano, headphones, some determination, and some patience can actually cure that. Once you start to gain confidence that you will actually match tones when you sing the whole thing starts to just click.

Whatever the circumstances, Democrat presidents won "comfortably" in 92, 96 and 08 , relative to Bush 43 in 00 and 04. Look it up.

For me, yeah. But mostly it was just taking it slow and practicing scales along with the piano --- and by going slowly and listening carefully enough to really try to lock in on each pitch.

that is a real problem. a lot of good bass parts are hypnotic. my problem is they tend to hypnotize the bass player. too. But, we are not alone. I remember an interview where BB King said he doesn't play and sing at the same time cuz he has 'stupid fingers.'
Posted by: jc at April 12, 2012 10:10 PM (ufJKx)
Yea, I gotta admit, I can barely play and sing. I can strum a 3 chord wonder and manage it, but if I am signing for real, I can't play.
And even when I'm playing fairly hard, I tend to want to dance.

The real major expenses for publishers are the Manhattan offices and other perks, like hiring English lit majors at 80K a year to do proofreading any decent high school grad could perform for a few hundred bucks per book. (Also, an established author can easily crowd source a book's proofreading to a small group of fans. I was part of such an effort recently. We produced an almost perfect draft in less than 24 hours in terms of correcting basic text errors and continuity issues.)
The big publishers are going to die. It's that simple. There is simply no reason for them to exist any more. Many small agencies will emerge from the wreckage and earn their keep with meaningful service with a low overhead. A home office in the suburbs is just as good as a Manhattan skyscraper for this purpose.

Virtually everybody I ever met who expressed support for Perot was a GOP voter who thought Bush was the second coming of the Rockefeller country club branch of the party when they wanted more Reasgan. I find it very hard to believe Bush wouldn't have enjoyed a comfortable margin over Clinton if we had instant run-off voting as at least two thirds of Perot voters would have had Bush as their second choice.
