USA: The Least Racist Country in the World
If you were to poll the average American, they would likely rank the US as one of the most racist countries on Earth due to of course slavery, Jim Crow laws, Rodney King, OJ, and everything else that we're rhetorically beaten up with ad nauseum. But as any American who has ever lived abroad well knows - the opposite is actually true: We're the least racist country in the world.
But the Left and the MSM are obsessed with race and continually dwell on racial relations in the US. So it's not hard to come away from the media and educational system convinced that we're irredeemably racist and xenophobic. Now of course we're not without any sin but unlike nearly every other country in the world we are quite willing to air our dirty laundry publicly and positively delight in critiquing ourselves.
So it's nice to see Dennis Prager point this all out:
In light of the tragic killing of black teenager Trayvon Martin -- and the manufactured hysteria surrounding it -- one thing needs to be stated as clearly and as often as possible: The United States is the least racist and least xenophobic country in the world. Foreigners of every race, ethnicity, and religion know this. Most Americans suspect this. Most black Americans and the entire left deny this.Black Africans know this. That is why so many seek to live in the United States. Decades ago, the number of black Africans who had immigrated to the United States had already surpassed the number of black Africans who were forcibly shipped to America as slaves.
And members of other races and nationalities know this. Even Muslim and Arab writers have noted that nowhere in the Arab or larger Muslim world does an Arab or any other Muslim have the individual rights, liberty, and dignity that a Muslim living in America has.
Europeans - in particular the Germans and the French - love to smugly lecture Americans over how awfully we treat blacks here but are blind to the motes in their own eyes.
And when any of these people come here - from anywhere, speaking any language, looking like a member of any race -- they are accepted as Americans the moment they identify as such. He or she will be regarded as fully American. This is not true elsewhere. A third-generation Turkish-German, whose German is indistinguishable from the German spoken by an indigenous German, will still be regarded by most Germans as a Turk. The same holds true elsewhere in Europe.
But just start asking them why it is that 3rd generation Turks in Deutschland can't ever be German or how come no Arabs happen to live in the 14th arrondissement of Paris and after a little hemming and hawing and throat clearing you'll start hearing raw talk that would make even a jaded Klansman raise an eyebrow.
But of course we - with our own black president, judges, cabinet members, and congressmen and myriad other minorities integrated into our society - are the racist ones.
Obama: We Blame Counter-Revolutionary Speculators and Hoarders For High Gas Prices
Under pressure to take action on rising gasoline prices, President Barack Obama wants Congress to strengthen federal supervision of oil markets, increase penalties for market manipulation and empower regulators to increase the amount of money energy traders are required to put behind their transactions. The White House plan, which Obama was to unveil Tuesday, is more likely to draw sharp election-year distinctions with Republicans than have an immediate effect on prices at the pump.
Which has also been their go-to excuse every other time oil prices have peaked. Because it could only be due to evil speculators and never, ever bad energy policies from the White House.
Worthwhile Canadian Currency Initiative
Another measure of intelligence: you can count neurons. The common octopus has about 130 million of them in its brain. A human has 100 billion. But this is where things get weird. Three-fifths of an octopus's neurons are not in the brain; they're in its arms."It is as if each arm has a mind of its own," says Peter Godfrey-Smith, a diver, professor of philosophy at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, and an admirer of octopuses. For example, researchers who cut off an octopus's arm (which the octopus can regrow) discovered that not only does the arm crawl away on its own, but if the arm meets a food item, it seizes it -- and tries to pass it to where the mouth would be if the arm were still connected to its body.
"Meeting an octopus," writes Godfrey-Smith, "is like meeting an intelligent alien." Their intelligence sometimes even involves changing colors and shapes.
Mmmm tasty fried aliens.
Apparently pancake making could happen at any time in the 70's which gave photos from then a rather p0rny vibe:
As I've mentioned before, you'd be hard pressed to find a picture of people in the seventies in a social setting NOT within minutes of pancakes. Combine (1) the sexual revolution, (2) drug experimentation gone amok, (3) women's liberation, and (4) tens of millions of Baby Boomers all in their prime, and what do you get? All you can eat pancakes.

Today, Microsoft revealed that they would be releasing Halo 4 (which will likely be the most hyped title in gaming history) at midnight on November 6th, 2012. Yeah, THAT November 6. Better yet, the sequel to the fastest selling game of all time, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, will also likely be bowing on election day.

Armored Saint had reunited in about '99 and released a new album in 2000 when Anthrax was on a hiatus. Ian announced an Among The Living era reunion without informing Bush which was Ian's backhanded way of firing him.
When Belladonna split after that they brought in a guy named Dan Nelson, recorded an album, had some kind of blowup and Nelson split and the album went unreleased.

Spent a couple years in Europe, and some of it in France. Paris, aside from the city itself, pretty much sucked in terms of the people. If you got out into the farm areas, the people were downright nice--especially when the discovered you were a GI. Wasn't THAT far removed from WW2. so the acceptance was good. Plus the food wasn't half bad.

For me the rudest contact I had overseas was with a Frenchman, storekeeper. Pretended not to speak or understand English when we asked questions. Then when we brought our purchases to the counter with francs in our hands he became midwestern fluent. Bastard. On the way out he told us goodbye and I told him to kiss my ass. Mrs L Rob felt I had misbehaved.
Best overseas contacts ever were in northern France, specifically in Normandy. They have streets named after GIs, we were in uniform. It was nearly impossible to buy beer - they didn't want to take our money. The older gents (this was in 1989, 45th anniversary of D Day) all wanted to have their pictures taken with us.

That was just a normal afternoon for old Calypso Louie. The MSM covers this shit up all the time, kind of like how they cover a group of Dems and a group of Republicans.
If they cover the Republicans, they find the craziest person in the same area code to interview instead of the little old church ladies that make up 95% of the crowd.
If they cover dems, they interview the little old man and lady that happen to be in the crowd with the leather clad, dildo shoulder padded, ball gag wearing crossdressing midget tranny Indians.

Oh shit. You've all probably heard about the shootings in Tulsa a while back. All victims black, the shooters white (but one of them was initially reported to be a native american). Both arrested within about a day and a half; both essentially admitted the shootings. One of the shooters posted some incriminating stuff on facebook related to his own father's shooting in the past, by a black. Pretty well open and shut, one might think.
Not so fast. Today, who shows up? Jesse F'n Jackson. Saying the shootings amounted to a "terrorist attack". That's a quote.

You bet we saw the beaches, irongrampa! We stayed in a hotel right in the Omaha beach gap. The tides on 6 Jun in '89 were essentially the same as in '44 at the same time of day. I walked out to the edge of the ocean an looked back. It was a very long way to a little ledge of sand. It gave me chills.
I have a plastic water bottle of sand I picked up that day.

During the early years of the German Republic, or First Reich, from 1870 to 1920, Germany was actually the most tolerant country towards Jews in Europe. The most anti-Semitic were the Slavic Europeans. It must be passed down through generations because fourth generation Poles from Chicago make yechy faces when Jews are mentioned

It is already here. My 76yo mom broke her shoulder on Easter sunday, and the ER turfed her out within 2hours without a cast. She has advanced senile dementia, and we were cool with the incontinence until one day she added violent hydrophobia to that. That's when we failed and pulled the trigger on the long term health care. If you don't have it, buy it. My wife and I tried very hard to keep her at home, but we nearly died between the waking up twice a night to change her diaper and bedding and losing sleep, and trying to work full time. I am not nearly as tough as I thought I was. Buy the long term insurance. It will save your life and health.

Let's not forget that Persia became "Iran" - a loose Farsi translation of "Aryan" after the Third Reich took power. On the other hand, they never asked for ID from voters, though that's likely because there was no voting. Either way, we're so terribly awful and stuff, and need to be more like people from the other 180-some countries whose lives are worse on average.

Germany was the most pro-Semitic country in Europe for centuries. After the Spanish Inquisition, Jews fled Spain, but neither France nor England wanted them. Germany (then a series of duchies) accepted them without qualm.
Poles and Russians hate Jews in part because Jews were tax/rent collectors for the landowners.

Honestly, I think a certain amount of this goes on everywhere, across all racial lines. I think a certain amount of what we call racism today is somewhat hardwired in humans. People are more comfortable around people who look like them and speak their language.
I kind of resent that we can't even notice and celebrate our differences these days.

I'll tell one story of my friends. They were having a celebration, some holiday or just a party to get together, about 50 of them, first generation immigrants from Sierra Leone.
Well in walks some gang bangers, bad dudes I wouldn't ever mess with. They want to crash the party, join in the fun with their guns and drugs and attitude. Up to them walks some of the ... bigger fellows from the party, and I mean BIG, one of them looks like a damn pirate, with the head bandanna and all.
They have a little talk with the bangers and they meekly turn around and walk away apologizing. The folks from Africa have no tolerance for those punks, absolutely no respect or patience. I love em, but damn their food is inedibly hot. Tasty but holy crap, talk about the ring of fire a few hours later.

He told me that he noticed early on that African Americans seemed to have high blood pressure even when sleeping, whereas Caucasians bp stabilized at night. Made a HUGE difference in their meds and overall treatment, and yet he got lambasted for thinking there could be such differences.
I believe it's been proven, now.

Having studied Islam considerably, I can say there's nothing innate about the Koran that requires people to be murdered or subjugated, most of that came from later interpretations by clerics and the Hadith.
The passages that call for conquest and domination came from the conquest period of Muhammad's life, and they are "abrogated" by later verses that tell how to rule (its a principle of Islam that if an earlier passage conflicts with a later one - and it happens more than a few times - then the later one is used, because it was a more current revelation from Gabriel).
But 1500 years of what essentially is a family feud, the real kind, not the game show... that doesn't go away so easy.

It was a true story that happened in 1939. Germany allowed Jews who paid a large passage and turned over whatever property they held in Germany over to the Reich.
They boarded the liner St Louis without a destination, but hoped that America or some other nation in the Western Hemisphere would give them sanctuary.
The St Louis was denied entry into Havana, and while it idled off the coast of Florida, many influential American Jews appealed to the State Dept and FDR himself to let them in. They were denied entry, and was forced to return to Germany after no other country would allow them to enter.
The captain of the St Louis hated the Nazis and said that he would intentional ground the ship in English waters to force them to take in the refugees. The British, Belgians, Dutch, and French agreed to take in the refugees.
FDR refused to take them in, and there are other instances of him turning his back on European Jews, yet to this day most of the old American Jews think the man was a near god

Historically pharma was loathe to include women in drug trials because statistically a certain proportion of them were likely to be/become pregnant during the trial, and a (small) proportion of them were likely to bear children with birth defects, which would inevitably be attributed to the drug trial. Bye bye, several hundred million dollars.
Once, during the silicone breast implant bullshit, I was involved in a research program that produced a cardiac stent that eluted a drug that impeded restenosis (a big problem with such stents). Top management was impressed, but said, "An implanted device? Nope. Forget it. Don't want the liability. No implants of any kind. Period."

No, you misread, and misunderstand the FDA procedures. A drug approved for any indication can be prescribed by any physician for any purpose that he deems appropriate (an "off-label" use), but he's on the hook for that decision. FDA approval for an indication means that the drug can be marketed for that purpose. If a drug isn't approved for that indication, physicians can still prescribe it, but the manufacturer can't market it for that indication.

Um, how exactly does quoting what PBO (ostensibly) wrote in a damn AUTOBIOGRAPHY that the liberals pointed to as PROVING his superlative talents and genius constitute "accusing"?

BiDil IS FDA-approved for blacks for heart treatment. It was the first "racial drug", so to speak. It didn't receive approval for anyone else. As Jay said, doctors can still prescribe it; I'm not sure insurance would cover it, though, as it is against FDA guidance. I don't know about that, though.

What is the plan for getting us out of the U.N., Mitt? They help our enemies, or at least everyone that hates us, everywhere. It is a failed institution, no less so than a Solyndra, and a tried-and-failed idea, no less so than Socialized Medicine. Why are we funding it, listening to it, obeying it, cooperating with it and hosting it's subversion here on our land. Out, Mitt! Out! "If it didn't work in other groups, why should it be approved for anyone?"
You misunderstand. A drug is approved for a given indication. If it is not indicated for a given patient population, it is not approved for use in that patient population, and cannot be marketed for use in that population, because it has not been shown to be efficacious in that population. (Sorry for the repetition of the p-word, but I'm trying to be clear.)
Once again, think birth control pills. They are FDA approved for use (i.e., marketing) in fertile females of childbearing age. They are (I assume) not approved for use in prepubscent or post-menopausal females, nor in males of any age, until and unless they are shown to be of benefit to them. The logic is that every drug has deleterious side effects, and thus some efficacy must be shown in the target population to warrant assuming that risk.
By the same token, thalidomide - which by the way is in many respects a wonder drug - is FDA approved for some indications, as long as the patient is not a fertile woman of childbearing age.

"As a vet I can tell you its actually quite dangerous. Think of the little rocks and flying debris that put dings in our windshields and front fenders. Now think of what those bit might do to a dogs unprotected eyes. Nothing wrong with letting them hang out the window through the neighbor hood or get a good whiff at stop lights, but put the window up (an inch or so to keep the air moving is fine) but no “scent buffet” is worth losing an eye."
These two bits were cribbed from a post yesterday at mental_floss. So it looks like big ol' meanie Romney's windshielded carrier-on-top method of dog transport might be the canine idea of Las Vegas with loving safety measure added.

Definitely my parents were such. Too bad the 3-year old grew up to be my brother the insane progressive, proselytizing for a sort of Star Trek Socialism where the genius of the technocrats would create a world of endless supplies of goodies and money would be abolished, where noone has to work and could just suck up anything and everything they desired. Remember the "Zeitgeist" stuff that Jared Loughner was said to follow? THAT crap he loves. Sometimes I wonder if the refugee flight at that crucial time of life established a thought pattern that the "golden land" is always over the next horizon, and being always dissatisfied with what is.

I lived in Japan for a year, but as a little kid. One of the few things I remember is taking the ferry across some bay ( where there's now a long bridge ) and my cap blew off into the water. Freaked out, I did.
My father calmed me down by telling me that a fish was wearing the cap. Apparently I though that made it okay--or tolerable

you don't have to go to Russia to see Soviet propaganda. It is all around us now in real time. Apparently, the reason we fought the cold war is so we could make all their propaganda become ours instead. Victory!!!

All the more reason to consult Dr. Tits!! He has expertise in both ovals and conic sections. Hell, he could probably even invent an Edith Head style 60's movie pointy bra for the fair lass. Although I think that could cause a shortage in several important defense materials.
