Technology really is speeding up - and more importantly our adoption of technology is speeding up with it.
The color TV and microwave took about 15 years for full adoption (i.e from 5% to 80% of households) while the VCR and cell phones reached this in only 10 years. Compare this with the long gently rising slopes for electricity, cars, and refrigerators.
So based on how the adoption curves are steepening I figure whatever major technological appliance-thingy comes next - neural implants, nano augmentation, etc - will become standard in a mere 5 or 6 years.

Memos from Stratfor released by Wikileaks say that widespread voter fraud occurred in Ohio and that "black Dems were caught stuffing the ballot boxes in Philly." The McCain campaign knew about the fraud but feared taking action because of the "possibility of domestic violence" if they challenged the results in Pennsylvania and Ohio. The memos say campaign staff urged candidate John McCain to act in court:
"Staff felt they could get a federal injunction to stop the process."
One of the Wikileaked memos says: "Sen. McCain chose not to fight."
Why not? Well apparently he didn't want a repeat of the drawn-out 2000 recount and feared possible riots.
"McCain felt the crowds assembled in support of Obama and such would be detrimental to our country and it would do our nation no good for this to drag out like last go around, coupled with the possibility of domestic violence."
On the other hand allowing someone to get into the White House fraudulently severely undermines our democracy. And if preventing voter fraud leads to a few riots, well I'm okay with that. The alternative is far, far worse.
Quote of the Day - On Why Is Communism Still So Popular?
Thompson refers to Marx's "angry, spitting moralism" as a chief enticement and in this longer video he elaborates on its idiocies, referring to the result as "a philosophy of malevolence." It seems to me one can't explain the appeal of Marxism without addressing the psychological license that it offers, specifically for coercion and petty malice. It's a golden ticket for a certain kind of sadist. Why Marxism? Start with rationalised envy and a vindictive desire for power over others, wrap it in a drag of altruism, and then take it from there.
Maps For The Zombie Enthusiast
It's a simple enough concept that we're kind of envious we didn't think about it ourselves: take a Google Map and overlay it with markers for gun shops, grocery stores, doctors, and all the other kinds of places you'd want to loot visit when the crap hits the fan. It's the kind of thing thousands of camouflage-wearing "down wit da gub'mint" types already have bookmarked on their computers.
See how your compound's neighborhood stacks up over at the Map of the Dead.
You wouldn't like him when he gets angry.
Classic Amazon Product Reviews
Thanks to Monty for passing this on.
I like the clean shaven look down in my gentleman's log cabin, so for the past few years I've used a shaver. However the hair keeps growing back which means every 6 months I have to spend 20 minutes trimming again. As I'm sure you've realise this is valuable time I cannot waste. So I decided to get to the root of the problem and purchased this product. Probably the first thing you will notice after using this product is the pain. Although as a man I lack the required experience, I'm going to estimate that using this product is at least eleven times more painful than childbirth.
Imagine sticking a rusty razor blade into your favourite eye, before tying your hands behind your back. Then imagine that you use the entrenched razor blade to slice open a raw onion. All the while being butt naked. This product is slightly more painful than that.
And then you also have this from Amazon. I have no use for it at this particular moment but at $19 it does seem pretty cheap.
For most people the hardest part is step #0 - just getting started:
The hardest part is often just starting. I've found that it's especially hard for me to start when a task is difficult or complex. The more importance and weight a certain activity has in my life or business, the more I seem to put off starting. However, if I can just get moving on it, even for a few minutes, it tends to get easier.
Because I know this about myself, rather than setting the intention to finish something, I resolve myself to start. The more often I start, the easier things get finished. Overcoming that first bit of inertia is the biggest challenge (just like getting started on a run, or the first push of getting a car moving).
Once things are moving, momentum is on your side.
If You Really Really Need To Lose Some Weight For Your Wedding
Then get on the tube:
Jessica, 41, wanted to lose weight for her wedding, but instead of doing the typical thing that most brides-to-be do - hire a trainer, go on a diet - to make their perfect wedding dress a reality, she went for a more, oh, extreme solution.Jessica decided to put herself on a feeding tube.
She lost 10 pounds in eight days. Jessica actually went off the feeding tube a couple of days early because she was dropping weight so quickly. How does a feeding tube work? By restricting your calorie intake down to 800 calories a day. The cost of a feeding tube of your very own is not cheap - $1,500 for 10 days.
The Yahoo AoSHQ group. Bla bla bla.
And don't forget about the Job Bank.
And my twitter thang.

But Africa as a whole and the nations that make it up don't have to be shitholes. The continent is loaded with natural resources and potential wealth.
Parts of Africa are stunningly beautiful.
But it largely is. A shithole.
There is subtle lesson here (or not so subtle). People that live in DC, Detroit and East St. Louis could explain it. But those are just clues.

ALL were governed by Democrats in 2008 who would have turned a blind eye against tomfoolery back then.

Lt Commander Nevergiveup at 21:
There is only one true God and Mohammed is his prophet. Islam is hemaneutically sealed from reform, revelation or renaisance. Obama and his lackeys believe in all the bunkum of the non-aligned, third - world movements, and this is just another one that he wants the US to be "on the right side of".
Islam is what is always is and has been, a violent politico-religion of the Middle East Arab, constantly on razza to raid and plunder and pillage what it cannot build for itself, and try and terrorize the world with their fearsome devotion to the freaky god they have invented. They claim to be descendents of Abraham, and the God of the Jews, but their god is a pernicious and malevolent god, with no forgiveness or mercy. Fear, terror and doom drives them from the desert wastes to try and plunder the world for what they lack. And what they lack spiritually most of all.
To say this won't end well is an understatement. It won't end until they are solidly beaten and harried back into their desert countries and forced to deal with themselves and outgrow the madness that drives them.
Even if they win, they lose. The history of Islam is that they prey on each other when their is no outside foe to steal or raid from. The World of Islam is a Hobbesian nightmare of Rouseau's "nobel savages" being savages to each other and anybody else that gets in the way.
It will all be different this time. Right.

We've known that significant voter fraud has been going on for years. In fact, the Democrats have been caught red handed several times - remember the ballots appearing in Democrat poll worker trunks in the WA governor's election?
Now yes, the Democrats can only move a few percent without it being so obvious that even the State Media can't ignore it - but how many elections have been decided by more then 4%? And remember in presidential elections, that's 4% in every swing state.

A word of warning though people, PLEASE DO NOT Veet for men on your anus. I did this myself and learned the hard way.
Using veet for men has ruined my life, and I now can only walk with the aid of a walking stick.
It was a Monday evening and I was fed up of my anal bush, so I decided to take evasive action.
Before long my entire butt hole was plastered in the stuff. I thought everything was ok until I thought I could smell smoke, I frantically ran into the kitchen in case I had accidentally left the hob on, but to my horror I caught my naked reflection in the mirror and the smoke seemed to be coming from my arse.

"As a 24 year old male I suffer from having an incredibly hair anal passage, one could possibly argue that there there is probably more hair on this region of my body than my armpits.
I ran the tap until the sink was full and sat in it crying and sobbing from excruciating the pain, I then limped sheepishly into the bathroom to have a proper look and yes, it had worked, my anal bush was gone!
So yes Veet for men did everything it said it would do, but just to pre-warn any of you folk who suffer from an unusually hairy back passage, I would stick to scissors in the future."
Now, for a similar product from America, a similar warning:
"Be careful with this stuff! my nuts are now hairless but... swoosh, yikes im on fire, use the Salve right after the shower, and dont soap up the area after the Pawing."
I do not know what "after the Pawing" means.

Spot on. McCain may have demonstrated immeasurable courage as POW, but his inaction on this was pure, unadulterated political/personal cowardice.

McCain used up all his courage and principles outlasting the Viet Cong in Hanoi.
The belief that even though you may not like them you feel confident that your elected officials were actually elected legitimately is key to a sustainable Republic. It is not so important in a democracy which is why voter fraud is a good thing when done by liberals.

Posted by: Laurie David's Cervix at April 23, 2012 06:47 PM (kdS6q)
To set the stage, we have our two primary players whom we'll call Busty Babe and Captain Douchebag. BB is as her moniker implies (you're not getting any pics so quit thinking about fapping) and she and I have equal positions doing code enforcement. CD is of course, a d-bag, has always outranked me and BB since we've been there, has held a few local political offices and certainly aspires for higher, married, has kids, and is an all around skeeve.
BB and I both started working there around 5 and 6 years ago, hired by the Old Guard. BB started off in the same office as CD where he was always flirty with her. BB had to drive about an hour to work at that office for her first year or so, when a slot opened up at the office I've always been in, about a half hour drive from BB, the Old Guard allowed her to transfer.
About 2 years ago, employees were offered retirement incentives so as trim positions and balance the budget. The Old Guard, all with one foot already out the door, took the payout and were gone before the end of 2010.
Now out of the top positions, #1-4, #1 and #2 serve at behest of the exec. We'd gone without an official #1 until just recently, but the guy who filled the vacuum at #3 as the Old Guard left was quickly plucked by the exec to serve as #2. Shortly thereafter, #2's buddy, Capt. Douchebag, was promoted to #3. #4 was then soon filled by another chummy member, the three now known as the Boys' Club.
So not too long before CD gets his big promotion, I'm out in the field with him. He asks me what I think about some of the other more recent hires of mine and BB's generation. I give him my honest assessment of the members of our crew and it's for the most part high praise, the Old Guard did well in those final years. He asked about BB and I said she's reliable, gets her assignments done without any problems, and seems to have a good understanding of the job, very professional. To which CD added, "Yeah and you've gotta love those great tits, right?" Well, that sounded rather unprofessional to me, especially coming from someone who everyone knew was soon to be named #3, so I just kind of said, "heh, yeah" and let that conversation die. (Luckily, not too awkward as CD is always yakking on his cell when not to whoever's in front of him)
Few months after that, me and Busty Babe are riffing on what a total douche Capt. Douchebag is when BB reveals to me that one day she was out with him and they were in CD's town. CD says to BB, "Hey my wife and kids are out today, why don't we stop for lunch at my house and I'll show you around." BB wisely declines the offer and suggests they just grab lunch at a nearby deli. I tell BB about what CD had said to me and we both agreed, what a fucking loser. BB then goes on to tell me a few other very-nearly-over-the-line statements CD has uttered to her over the years.
So now, in a further effort to reduce costs, we're closing the two leased offices and taking over some of the owned space that has opened up in three new offices. We're now to have two main field offices, with a small field office in the main office which will also host the Boys' Club. Now of course we're all on pins and needles wondering where we'll get placed, but the expectation is that the Boys' Club will try to divvy up staff to which ever office is most convenient where possible.
FO1 where our current supervisor who we love will be presiding, is less than a 10 minute drive for BB, as the employee living closest to that office, she's pretty much a lock for it. I want FO1, but while it's closest for me in total miles, it's actually a slightly quicker commute for me to go to the BCHQ, FO2 isn't even that much further for me.
Our supervisor leaks to us the end of last week the "unofficial" staffing lists which should become official any day now. Basically, everyone ended up pretty much where you'd expect, I even get to go to FO1, yay! Well, all expected except for BB, she's going to BCHQ. We asked our supervisor why BB got singled out. She says they told her that the area BB is currently in charge of will be under the jurisdiction of the Boys' Club, and BB is the only one they can really trust there. Of course, that's provable bullshit as we rotate areas routinely. Coincidently, BB's area also happens to be where all BC members live, funny that.
Anyway, I came up with what I believe to be a guaranteed out for BB should she want it, no need to discuss those details, I'm certain she's at FO1 if she wants it. BB however, really fucking despises CD and wants him gone. Also, BCHQ will be taking one of BB's friends from her old office, and BB doesn't want to abandon her (Who in her own right should have ended up in FO2, though not as drastically a wtf as BB's placement is). She says she's willing to go to BCHQ with voice recorder at the ready, and try to nail CD making further inappropriate statements towards her, the occurrence of which we both agree is a nigh certainty.
Busty Babe wants to be a hero here and rid us all of Captain Douchebag, but she wants to know just what and how much she needs on CD, so I ask the Moron Horde to lend me their counsel. Like, does she need to establish to CD that he needs to back the fuck off at any point first? How inappropriate does CD have to be before he's truly crossed the line to harassment? Also, CD's position is union, and he's a political ally of the current exec. I explained to BB that she can probably win herself a nice early retirement package, but seriously ousting CD could prove to be more difficult. BB says she has no desire for the payout, only the elimination of CD, but she wants to know how high a hurdle she has, if it's too much she'll just take my out and Captain Douchebag will continue to drive our department into the ground.
So anyone out there have experience with this stuff? Can it be done?

I'll repeat what I've said for a while: The Chinese are going to focus their efforts on expansion into central Asia, especially towards the Caspian Sea and the resources in that area. Second will be Africa. Establishing Chinese interests in Africa provides them with needed resources, but more importantly it allows them to position military forces in such a way as to threaten the West if it tries to interfere. Imagine if the Chinese move troops into Turkmenistan or Kazakhstan and can tell NATO or the UN, "Don't interfere or our missles in the Sudan will be brought into play."

John McCain is such a wuss. He chose FOUR YEARS of "violence" against this country, its citizens, and the Constitution over the "possibility of domestic violence" in '08. Either he's a wuss or O threatened him the way he threatened Chelsea Clinton to shut Bill & Hil up (per the Hollywood producer/Hilary campaign worker who claimed that recently).
Once O is out on his jug-ear, the Congress had better still investigate him for his crimes. And every law he signed had better be nullified if he's found guilty.

Someone seems to have missed The Classic Amazon Product Review:
(How this review was missed is beyond me, as it seems to be the epitome of the AoSHQ Adventuring Mentality(c), for which we should all strive ... euphamisms used to reduce banning likelihood and to further suggest that the original reviewer is actually British, and actually intended to use euphamisms ...)
Being a loose cannon who does not play by the rules the first thing I did was ignore the warning and smear this all over the equipment . The twins I knew and loved are gone now. In their place is a maroon coloured bag of agony which sends stabs of pain up my body every time it grazes against my thigh or an article of clothing. I am suffering so that you don't have to. Heed my lesson. DO NOT PUT ON the equipment .
(I am giving this product a 5 because despite the fact that I think my twins might fall off, they are now completely hairless.)
... and the en result is, after all, the point of the product.
I, for one, salute you, Mr. Loose-Cannon-Who-Does-Not-Play-By-The-Rules Product Reviewer.

As you well know, some of us have been known to have had brushes with the authorities on our way home from the odd social session over the years.
A couple of nights ago, I was out for a few drinks with some friends at the Marriott Hotel and had a few too many beers and some rather nice red wine.
Knowing full well I may have been slightly over the limit, I did something I've never done before: I took a bus home.
Sure enough I passed a police road block but as it was a bus, they waved it past.
I arrived home safely without incident, which was a real surprise; as I have never driven a bus before and am not sure where I got it.

I like jerky. Was going to do some venison, but wound up eating it. We don't keep our deer around too long, I feel that freezing it for for than a couple months kills the flavor.

I agree big media pushed Romney into the nomination, just like with McCain last time. And they will rip his throat out for the rest of this year. Ugly would be better than what this will look like.
It's time to start internalizing "ABO".
If Romney turns out to be the worst Republican president in history, he'll be an order of magnitude better than the current.

"The danger to America is not Barack Obama, but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools, such as those who made him their president."

Choosing someone substantially to the left of Bush 43, to do what Bush 43 wasn't conservative enough to do - even when he had strong majorities in both houses - is folly.
Romney will not do what we need a president to do - and there is no serious disagreement about this.
The question then is can we sustain the status quo for at least eight more years. If you don't believe the answer to that is yes, you cannot in good conscience vote for Romney.

Anybody involved gets "tainted". 10 years ago at the company I was at, one of the managers came to me because he wanted to get rid of a guy, and one of the issues was sexual harassment. This manager was so giddy about the sexual harassment aspect because he knew that was something I didn't tolerate. (Not because of the Lib shit, I just don't want to be paying peoples' salaries so they can bang each other). We fired the guy.
Cue 3 months later, I fire the manager because of some improprities. A female staffer hired after the first guy was fired, comes to me the morning after we fired the manager to tell me that she had been harassed by the manager. The diference between what the two had done was that the employee was graphic in describing his sex activites with his wife, while the manager called the female employee telling her what he wanted to do with her.
I guess the point of this is that if you get involved in any way with this, your comment about her endowment will be brought up. Decent guys or not, when their necks are on the line, other heads will roll to protect theirs.

Yeah, it's really about getting rid of CD. I told BB a settlement for her was more likely than anything, and of course the problems that arise should CD remain in his place.
As far as I'm concerned in it, I'm just advising her for now, but am willing to go to bat for her against CD if we have a solid case. Interesting other tidbit, when I was discussing the strange placement of BB with our supervisor, who also hates CD, I kind of roll my eyes and sarcastically say, "yeah, it soooo strange that they'd want BB, right?" And supervisor mentioned that when she's in on the Boys' Club meetings, she's heard them say things in front of her, as if she were one of the boys, which she'd "admit to under oath if asked to". I suspect it's pretty similar to what I've heard but I didn't press her on it then. BB and I wonder if getting the super on board helps the case, I suspect there are other allies who have heard similar things as well, but I obviously don't want to go running around to a lot of people.

You will not be part of the settlement. You cannot "win more". Intentional involvement means you start losing, as others have posted, and probably big. Being called in and telling the strictly-relevant, terse, truth, is not a win either. It is a minimum loss, but you may have to do it.

And there is the reason why Obama embraced all those radical, socialist ideas. Oh sure he was surrounded by it fairly early on, and it was oh so chic in college, but without the even earlier aggrievement of being abandoned by father and jerked around the world, then dumped, by mother, he wouldn't have the gut-level connection with it. He feels the victim, he wants retribution and the power to prevent him ever being told what to do again.

So you think that in spite of Romney's record and rhetoric he will cut spending? That he has been lying for decades so that he can become the most conservative President since Coolidge?
People seem to forget that even Reagan didn't manage to cut spending. And Romney has consistently claimed to be far to the left of Reagan.
The absolute best case scenario for a President Romney is that we are spending $4t + inflation/year for the next 8 years. And more realistically a spending curve somewhere between Bush 43 and Obama.

Supporting BB is a Good Thing, in the Cosmic Order of Things, but Not So Good For You in the Company and Future Employers View, unless things are very clear and doccumented ... and you get lucky.
We've all read "The Exploits of Stuck", and applauded as he emerged victorious and triumphant ... but Capt. D. is far more of a threat than Che Boy.
Exercise caution. Privately supporting BB is good, but unless and until you've got a well documented case, both of you personally risk a lot.

Someone once said of Mitt that he's a businessman who listens to his stock-holders. If he's POTUS (please God), his stoc-holders will b "We the People"; if we hold his feet to the fire, make him keep his conservative campaign promises, and elect a conservative House/Senate, I think we'll be ok. And you realize the number of people who will be infuriated if the government really does cut spending is larger, right?
Almost every personal political incentive on dealing with the debt bomb is to do nothing. There will be no persuading Romney to the right of the issue once (and that is a big if) he wins the election.

Emotions do not work for you in cases like this. Passions can overwhelm us and make us do many things we regret later, and this is one. She is pissed, she wants others to be pissed. You should be a disinterested 3rd party. If the bosses call you in to ask you about it, be truthful and tell them what you know first hand, not anything that you have heard others say. Be disinterested, do your job. Remember, when it gets to this point, no one has any friends, even BB is not your friend, she is a coworker, and when push comes to shove, she will turn on you to protect her paycheck.

Which one do I vote for? The guy who wants to take away cetain types of firearms or the guy who actually did?

Nope.
We all go vote and work for conservative congress critters and vote third party for President.
The final tally is something like 45-35-20. The Republican party finally gets it - the establishment Republicans are more afraid of their voters, finally, then the State Media and the permanent bureaucracy.
The Senate votes down every SC nominee Barry puts up.
The House breaks the budget into parts and sends essential services to the Senate and then the President to veto or not. His choice.
Then they never get around to writing a budget for the rest.
Is it likely? No. Is it more likely then Romney suddenly becoming a far rightwing warrior after winning the election when he clearly promised to not govern that way? Oh hell yes.
But isn't saving the country worth taking a chance? We don't have eight years to screw around with Romney. And we all know it.

O voted to allow survivors of botched abortions to die alone in dirty lined closets. Mitt did not.
O is friends with Ayers, Dohrn, Wright, Farrakhan, and assorted other Marxists and Commies. Mitt is not.
O hates this country. Mitt does not.
O wants to start a race war. Mitt does not.
O loathes the Constituion. Mitt does not.
O has no respect for the SCOTUS (and scolds them in public) or Congress (and bypasses them every chance he gets). Mitt does.
O eats dog and signs bills to allow the slaughter of America's wild horses. Mitt's wife loves horses and competes with them.

No, I'm stating the facts.
If you want a Republican budget cutter you have to go back to Coolidge.
Reagan gave it a try, but he couldn't pull it off.
Romney has claimed, personally and repeatedly, that he is no Reagan, let alone a Coolidge, and his record puts him to the left of Bush 43.
So the most likely case is that Romney would be better then Obama, but still dramatically increase spending at least as much as Bush 43. But let's even argue best case. Romney ups Reagan and mandates no new spending.
In eight years he will have spent $32T in 2012 dollars - running the numbers roughly doubling the debt to something like $30T.
And in doing so, and remember this is Romney's best case, we collapse just as surely as we will under Obama.
So ultimately there is no different in voting for Obama over Romney. When you've got a gunshot wound and are bleeding out a bandaid is no better a solution then leeches.

I am not getting any part of a loaf. I am not dependent on the government. Society could crumble right now and I do believe that myself, my family and my friends would survive.
Mitt expects the votes of social conservatives like myself because he is the lessor of evils. I will get nothing in return for my vote other than an empty promise that he is not as bad as the other guy.

Social Security is actually in the least trouble, as it won't run dry until 2035. That's like forever, right?
Then there is Medicare. It's good until 2024, a whole 12 years from now. No change in projected bankruptcy date from last year was seen. But there is a minor little problem -- the Trustees assume that there will be no 'doc fix' this time, a 21% difference in payment rate to doctors. It also assumes that OCare will realize the full $500 billion in 'projected savings' from fraud crackdowns etc over ten years. Well, OCare has been in effect for 2 years now; anyone notice the big honking headlines claiming $100 billion has been saved to date? Er, Medicare spending went up 5% over the last year.
There is an entitlement crash coming and no one can stop it.

The Constitutional power is there, and there is a reasonable chance that a Congress committed to addressing our survival could win politically in pursuing such a line of policy.
The bigger problem is that the Republican congressional leadership is about as gutless as Romney.
However, the very real fallout of Romney losing preciously because the right abandoned him might have a positive effect on them. It certainly sets their incentives to get serious in a way nothing else will.
All said, I find this unlikely to succeed, but again, a small chance with rejecting Romney beats the no chance we have with him as our standard bearer.

It's a very familiar problem from a technologist's perspective. Communism scales very poorly. The only functional examples of communist communities have fewer than 100 members. They lie somewhere between an extended family and a tribe.
Above that level, normal biological behavior demands that subgroups or individual seek favorable conditions for themselves and their offspring. The communists claimed to embrace Darwinian theory when they required everyone to behave in direct violation of it.

The GOP only controls one chamber of the legislature, the Dems the other. If the GOP controlled the Senate, then they could set the agenda for the chamber, but they do not. That is why control of the Senate was a big deal in 2010.

Personally, I'd like to vote Mittens in and impeach and toss his ass out the second he looks askance at anything. But America HAS to get past 2012, if it is to have any chance, at all. It doesn't have much, anyway, but 2012 is a truly historic election. America's fate could be sealed by it. Badly.

about 4 or maybe 5 years ago is when the ONT's tone really changed
That's because, at least in 2006, up to 2007, politics weren't as extentially threatening as today; nothing was. Bart and Rosetta were the focus of "comments". Allahpundit commented here. JackM wrote epic poetry. WP was banned and un-banned. ..... JEF was unknown.
And in 2007, Larches Sojnnoh OD'd on Cheetos, and banned most of the blogosphere. An historical event happened: as a result of this bad trip, a self-made and very influential blog, that had brought down a network, did an ongoing face plant into concrete. Humor ensues, to this day.

Heh.
Just looked at polling data from mid-2011. Obama's OsamaBounce burnt out in three weeks, and he went back into negative territory. Accelerated drop in late summer...followed by stabilization by the OWS movement and D's getting excited...until the OWS movement became dirty, smelly and dragged on. O's numbers began declining again, all through November.
Now, if the #OWS folks decide to go "big" as they are threatening in the next few months, Romney can cut ad after ad showing them as "Obama's America".
Even the most squishy moderate grew grossed out over OWS. It has an incredibly negative approval rating. Tie the goofball protest lefties to Obama (forcing him to condemn them or distance himself from them, and risk losing some of his biggest supporters), and sink his ass like a stone.

Would it have been better, in the Soviet Union for example, if Classical liberals were put in power shortly before the polity fell?
And again, rather then just accept that collapse is coming and voting for Romney, why not try to use the few methods still left to us to avoid it?

Romney's policies might be only slightly better than JEF's, but:
1. Romney is unlikely to do end-runs (czars, EO, etc.) around Congress
2. Romney is very much more likely to work with, or at least acquiesce to, Congress.
The 2013, if things go as it looks like they will, will attempt to repeal Obamacare, and cut and control spending. Romney has nothing to lse by going along, and much to gain.

The primary problem is spending.
If even just the House is willing to put a stop to it, it can be done.
The problem then is how to get a majority in the House to do what needs to be done.
Giving Romney the keys to White House when he is promising to not seriously change DC is not an answer to the problem.

For all the talk of the need for total entitlement reform, it just isn't going to happen. You need to be in office to enact the reforms, and anyone who seriously enacts them will be voted out by those who want those entitlements. With the Boomers reaching retirement age, that's not going to happen. Deal with what is, not what you want it to be.
We're going to have to learn the hard way rather than from Europe's example of what happens when the trough is empty. An implosion is the only thing that can fix it, and then it gets dicey as there will be just as many, possibly more people who heed the disciples of Karl Marx rather than Adam Smith

And again, rather then just accept that collapse is coming and voting for Romney, why not try to use the few methods still left to us to avoid it?

You do know that every time some place has collapsed, it usually doesn't result in a place that most citizens want to live in. Usually people like Obama end up in power, kind of like FDR, but on steroids.

You still don't understand do you. The congress can't stop spending, they can stop borrowing and they can make a symbolic act to shut down the govenrment. If they do that the president has full control of all treasury reciepts. He can do whatever he wants with them. The president has full discresion at that point to keep the parts of government running that he deems neccesary with the money he has to work with.

The guy assumed his presidency eventually, and was completely ineffectual, but my reaction was never about him, or even the Presidency. It was the flouting and flimflamming of procedure that signaled the future to me. Fuck one thing over and you soon believe you can fuck anything over, and by God that's what happened with Serbia. The dissolution of Yugoslavia was inevitable, Croatia and Slovenia had already voted to secede, but there are ways and ways and this was going to be the worse way.
Obama has already been fucking things over. Obama believes he can fuck anything over...after he's won one "last election".
And here I sit with an oddly similar ache in the marrowbones while others speak according to their political tracts.

I can empathize with the way 18-1 feels, and I suspect that most here can. I was not for Romney in this election, because (as I told my Romney-supporting brother several months ago) I think we need someone who is at least going to stomp hard on the brakes, if not manage a full U-turn, and that with Romney we're likely to get a more well-managed and orderly plunge off the cliff.
But our system is based upon making the better of two choices, and there is absolutely no doubt that Romney is the better choice. Thus, as a responsible citizen I am going to support Romney without further public expression of reservations, and pray for Providence to lend a hand.

Looks like we are about to pay for that mistake within the next decade.

you can still get Tokyo Shock's dvd release but it's crap to be honest. And Classic Media didn't put out a better version before they lost the license to Criterion (which sucks as I doubt they will do much outside releasing Raids on blu-ray (though their Gojira is of their usual high quality)

Are you reading what I am writing? And why are you making my case for me?
Reagan made the last serious effort (as a President) to cut spending...and lost.
Romney has declared repeatedly that he is not as conservative as Reagan.
So if we need to cut the budget, how can we select someone that thinks trying to cut it is extreme and wrong?

We still ran up deficits, there was a large ramp up in Defense Spending. Reagan got hammered in the 82 midterms while Volcker ran interest rates close to 20 percent to wring out inflation. If he'd had to run again in 82 he would have lost badly. Tax cuts, regulatory relief, and taming of inflation brought a rebound in time for 84
Spending still increased under Reagan, it just did so at a slower rate than it would have if Carter had been re-elected
If you still insist that a Conservative Savior is out there to rally the American people to accept the huge spending cuts, I have to conclude that you're just being obtuse.

So you are committed to the idea of collapse and therefore supporting Romney. Interesting how most Romneybots argue for their man because not supporting Romney would mean a collapse under Obama.
Committing to collapse is a poor solution and in fact the worst of the one can imagine - as others have pointed out no one can see what is on the other side no matter what fantasy world you'd like to build up.
Anyway, if you agree Romney = collapse why not at least try something that might avert it?

No I am not. Reagan was a good man and a good president. You wouldn't vote for him today. Reagan ran on a platform of cutting government but he had no history of doing that. He didn't in California and before that he was an actor and a union boss.
Romney has a history of turning things around. That's what we need now, someone who has that history.
You may not like his social flip flops or the fact that he is not a trained actor like Reagan was and therefor not as charismatic but he is a smart fucker who knows how to make things work.
He is also a good man that I beleive loves this country and wants to save it.

There is no such thing as a "conservative" Savior.
Either we will elect men who will stop the tide before it is too late, create sufficient incentives so that lesser men will still vote the right way, or we face collapse under the debt bomb.
Romney, Boehner, and the rest are certainly not the sort of men to lead a real spending fight, let alone "conservative" Saviors so pick - incentivize them somehow or accept collapse. And keep in mind we've only got a few years to get said incentives in place...

Reagan advocated a consistent set of principles for decades prior to become president. In the same time frame Romney was arguing he was no conservative in his 94 election and opposed Newt's efforts to cut the budget in 95.
But it is an interesting point. In 1980 the primary issue facing the country were the Soviet Union and the collapsed economy. Part of the reason Reagan failed to cut the budget is he prioritized it below the other two objectives and correctly so.
The debt bomb is the issue now. Romney's record on this issue is poor, and his rhetoric is just as bad.
If I was looking to run a business for me, I'd hire Romney based on his record. If I was looking for a man to cut spending I would not.

You wanted a name. I put one out. Scott Walker would make one hell of a better president than Mitt.
Walker is a winner. A very good conservative record. Maybe the GOP is so caught up with its my turn type of candidates that it gets what it deserves.
Mitt is no guarentee in November. Mocking those that have reservations about Mitt will not win any converts.

Reagan didn't even run on cutting government, he ran on increasing personal freedom. There was no doubt that he was going to increase spending on defense massively. The left called him Ronny Reaguns.
He was just trying to reange the deck chairs on spending from social programs to defense.

The problem is that every potential candidate is ideal. Walker does look good, but I bet a deeper inspection of his record will show a lot of "non conservative" holes.
I agree that the "my turn" candidates should be done away with. So if that is the case, George H.W. Bush should have been the candidate in 80, right?

It's a quixotic run to bring his issues to the fore. In a way it's been refreshing because no one ever campaigns on issues like the Federal Reserve and yet, there he is. (It's also maddening since he can be so blisteringly wrong on issues of war and peace.)
He's run again this year because, I think, his 2008 run turned out to be pretty popular with the kids. And he really does seem to get a fair amount of money.
But he's retiring after this year.

I think he misses the point on money. Some metal (oooh, shiny) is not the point. Money is a representation of our willingness to give our time to please other people. It all boils down to time, and unfortunately almost no one keeps the focus where it really belongs.

See, back in 2009 I got actively involved and started doing things about elections besides just voting. I formed strong opinions and expressed them around, both my parents caught a dose of it too.
Well in 2011 there was a ballot initiative here blocking eminent domain abuses like the Kelo case. As a libertarian, I was strongly for this new restriction on the state's power; to my great surprise my mom joined forces and defied dear old dad. Hah.
The new constitutional restriction on eminent domain use passed easily in MS.
ESAD, Supreme Court. We just 10th Amendmented your asses into irrelevance. Smooch.

You're making a friggin' awesome show. I love it to death, really I do. The little girl who plays Sally Draper? Child actors have a harder time than most growing up, do her a favor and refrain from upskirt shots like you had in episode three. I think this kid has a future in show business so try not to help her on her way to a destructive coke habit and suicide with embarassing camera angles.
Thank you,
Robert

The reason I see that stuff now takes off faster in the tech market is price. Color TV's were expensive as hell in the early days and shows were not broadcast in color. When TV started switching to color and the price of the TVs came down sales exploded.
The vote fraud and McCain response is just more indication that he really did not want to win. Our primary system is broken.
Why is communism popular? In the US we have given the vote to the plebes. When any group goes to unrestricted "Democracy" it soon learns that bread and circuses can be had based on the sweat of others. IOW, Bastiat's looters gain control of the government purse. Our Consitution was designed to prevent that but FDR buried it in the 30s and we have never recovered.
Love those customer pics for the horse head mask.

I don't think there will be a lot of "sideliners" from the Moron crowd. maybe one or two at the most. What worries me is that Romney will go left during the general, more than he already is, and really piss off portions of the base, especially in the South. There are some key swing States like VA and NC where sitting it out by a small percentage can swing the State.
Elections are not won by "popular vote". They are won by winning States.

All we need is someone in the White House with some balls.
Yes, Congress spends the money, but the President gets to veto all spending. I don't know if Romney has that in him. But at some point, we're going to need an adult in the White House, because Congress will never willingly shut down this gravy train.

With a Republican President there will be no reason at all for the liberal Republicans to fight anything coming out of the WH or the Senate and vice-versa.
The vice-versa is largely what happened to Bush-II. The liberals in the Party pushed spending to the limits and Bush went along.

Face it. Being a RINO (liberal at heart) is just easier than being a conservative. The fawning press compliments you on how you have grown in office, and how you can reach across the aisle, and how you (even though your net worth has quadrupled since he took office) are really a man of the people. Better yet, the press never questions your actions and you don't have to explain yourself.
Contrast that with the never-ending barrage of underminimg attacks (both overt and subliminal) on conservatives of every stripe. No contest.
