Why Class Warfare Fails in the US
Because it turns out that a strong majority of Americans don't mind the rich and would like to join them one day.
And the percentages haven't really changed in over twenty years which leads to continual consternation among leftists who are always convinced there's a huge hidden appetite for class warfare among the American proletariat just waiting for the right candidate to tap into.

In fact I felt more or less the same way even when I was a 17-year old kid. Of course back then I knew a good amount for a youth-type but I also knew that there was A LOT I didn't know.
So I guess I was lucky that several of the adults in my life then were smart, very knowledgeable, and aware. Enough so that I never had the luxury of deluding myself that I or my friends somehow had special insights into life or politics not available to say those over the age of 30.

The Rise and Fall of Dark Warrior Epilepsy
Of all the names for a neurological disorder in the history of medicine, the most awesome has got to be 'Dark Warrior epilepsy'.The condition was reported in a 1982 edition of the British Medical Journal and was so named because the patient had seizures - but only while playing the Dark Warrior video game.
The patient was a 17-year-old girl whose father was a video game engineer. He fixed the arcade machines and so she got to play for free.
Curiously, the case report mentions that she had already mastered Space Invaders, Asteroids, and Lunar Rescue.
It turns out that this was caused by a case of reflex epilepsy - epilepsy brought on by very specific stimuli:
But actually, reflex epilepsy is very diverse. Some people will have seizures triggered by certain smells, or certain patterns, or certain emotions, or certain tunes, or even doing certain sort of problem-solving - like mental calculation.
Some of the early cases of computer-triggered epilepsy were caused by certain flash sequences in games, which are now not included by common consent.

The league is in its infancy and will start with a reality show pilot to gauge interest. So, for the moment, this appears to be an idea hashed on a night with too many tequila shots. They do have a website though and a Twitter and Facebook account, although, in fairness, pretty much any schlub could do that.

The final Flight Readiness Review has given SpaceX a GO for the Saturday morning launch of the Falcon 9/Dragon COTS-2 mission. If all goes well, it will berth with the ISS and become the first private space vehicle to do that.

Because I now routinely assume all "mainstream" media coverage is designed to serve an agenda, I'm wondering if the Trayvon case isn't some sort of very subtle sabotage by media people. After all, they have to live in the USA, too, and they can see how Obama is fucking up everything he touches. But if they come out against him, or even fail to praise him fulsomely enough, they get exiled to "right-wing extremist" country and never get invited to the good parties.
Hammering the Trayvon case is impeccably liberal -- not even BHO his own half-black self could criticize "journalists" for crusading to get justice for a poor dead black boy who never did any harm and totally never broke into anyone's house. But if it weakens Obama subtly, it's a win-win situation!

Last week I was listening to NFL radio and they started up a decent debate that I thought might be good to continue here. The topic was the blackout rules in an economic recession. There were three positions stated:
1. People cannot afford tickets at current prices and thus teams lose ticket revenue, ad revenue, and turn off the fans with blackouts.
2. There's no way to lessen the blackout rules without encouraging folks, especially those in FF leagues, to just stay home and watching it on t.v.
3. If you're winning, your fans will pay to see you play.
I see valid points in all the arguments. Buzzion states plainly, "If they can't sell out the stadium, the prices are too high."
What say you?

Seriously, the problem with a lot of the Liner Track Tables was that they required the dustcover to be closed for playback. This creates a ton of trapped static charge and also a heavy bit of sibilance as the stylus and tonearm act as a natural amplifier during playback.
Other probs can be low humidity in the playback room, built up charge on your Cartridge/Headshell, grounding issues, and the cleanliness of your power supply.

I disagree with the stadiums being too large. The Big House up in Michigan seats over 100,000 and I don't think they ever have a problem selling enough tickets that they would be at risk to blackout rules if college football had them like the NFL does.
If you can't sell out your ticket prices are too high.

Winner winner, chicken dinner. Very low humidity where I was at. Also, my cartridge picked up so much amplification, it would cause my Cerwin Vega's to bounce/distort. I basically had to ground my turntable and move my speakers several feet from the turntable. However, the noise reduction equipment I used which was the same as most radio stations used at the time was invaluable.

Jacksonville isn't exactly a high-dollar town and the stadium is built for one game a year: The Florida-Georgia game. Even under the best of conditions, it would be very difficult for them to well out the stadium.

Yeah I've had a few inexplicable game crashes. And definitely a broken game. I just got the Unofficial patch, the Better Dialogue Mod and the Better Followers Mod so I can actually have them level up with me. That's such an obvious busted part that its ridiculous. Also got the User Interface Mod that makes the inventory and magic menu's much better and cleaner.
And really that stuff with the Followers is pathetic. After Bethesda made a major improvement with Fallout New Vegas and the companion wheel to help with controlling your followers you don't include a similar type in your new that works in a similar manner?

Casettes take really specialized equipment to get to the realm of LP's. It can be done, but it's going to cost you and you aren't ever going to be able to buy Casettes that sound half as good.
You have to have a really clean source and a pro style deck to master them on.
After all that, their lifespan is really short before they start to deteriorate.

Just remember that your ears are not perfect sensors - so sounding better != higher fidelity. In fact by almost all measures vinyl has more distortion than high bit rate digital sampling. It's just that the particular distortion it introduces happens to sound good to human ears.

Good point. I was just trying to remember something i read a while back about the future of digital that was supposed to be able to compress down to mp3 size but still hold all the audio information of the original recording so no loss of depth, can't even remember what it was called though.

Oh and digital sampling is not the same thing as mp3. Mp3 encoding uses digital sampling plus tricks based on quirks in human hearing that let it throw away a lot of audio information yet still sound 'pretty good'.

When MTV was what everyone thinks of as "MTV", it's playlist was what could be considered "album rock", but with a little of a twist. It was huge in 81-83 breaking artists and musical styles not played anywhere. However, the usual suspects complained about the lack of black faces on the channel without realizing that one of the VJ's was JJ Jackson, that they were playing Prince, and they had other black artists on, but they were considered to be rock artists, not pop or urban. So, that is when the big Michael Jackson push happened and MTV stopped "breaking" artists and just became another music outlet.
As for my first concert, it was Elvis back in 75. My dad took the whole family to it, and it was a fun time. Plus, Elvis was still a hell of a showman.

When I saw Swervedriver, I went to see them even though they were the opening act for the Pumpkins (got free tix and got to interview a couple of the Swervies with other radio station guys). I still remember Darcy cussing out some of the assholes in the audience though: that was cool.

Perfect case of post-hoc mass hysteria.) They gave me blank stares. I asked them if they'd seen the movie of 'The Andromeda Strain.' One of them got an 'Oh Shit!' expression on his face and entered a whispered conversation with the other two while I walked away.
It may have been a very good thing for Nintendo's sake that the VB was a notorious failure.

Closer to twenty if you count the ones that were Japan only. They were actually starting to get the hang of it and doing some good stuff when they pulled the plug. The VB had two killer handicaps. Too high a price and no major must-play games at launch. You can survive one but not both. (Private space ventures have a similar set of issues: can it be done and can it make money? You need a positive answer for at least one to get started.)
Amazingly, Nintendo had forgotten how bad it is to launch a new system without at least one AAA game to go with it. Even a remake, like Mario 64 for the DS will do. But the 3DS launched with a horrible lineup. Some fo the games were blatantly overgrown demos, although that is a tradition for the Pilot Wings series. The first one on the SNES started out as a tech demo for Mode 7 when Nintendo was bringing in developers to see the new platform. Back then, it was shown with two cartridge slots to allow existing 8-bit games to run. But then Nintendo realized it would only serve to promote used game rather than generate new sales. (Backward compatibility makes sense when you last platform was not as successful as you'd like and you need to help the retail channel unload inventory and bolster the library. Thus backward compatibility was very important for the Xbox 360 but not really needed on the PS3 and soon dropped.)
I've still got a Virtual Boy and all the carts for it. When Blockbuster was clearancing everything related to it they sold the systems in nice carrying cases for rentals for $20 each, with the games going for $2 each. I bought close to a dozen of them and gave most of them as gifts.

First of all, it's not a "birther" thing. It's an eligibility issue. It's a serious sort of Law thing.
And if someone tells you he committed a crime, then even if you think he's a liar you have to investigate whether he did or not.
I understand how embarrassing it is to some "conservatives" to have to breathe the same air as people who actually take the natural born citizen foolishness seriously. They are silly ... I know. The Constitution put that in for kicks, of course.
And the question of his eligibility has never polled poorly, no matter how much people wring their hands - the same way many were scared of the Tea Party and Town Halls being so "loud and boisterous and making a bad scene that embarrasses us intelligent and rational people". The GOP bought into that one for a very long time.
Every poll that I've EVER seen has had a plurality, if not a majority, of people questioning most of the Dog-Eater's fables and people have long been ticked that we know nothing about him and every time someone tried to find anything out it was shot down by the MSM or by "conservatives" being so moderate and rational and fluffy and such.
He's ineligible for reasons other than being born out of the country, but since he, himself, has put forth several times (and his family) that he was born out of the country, who are we to brush it aside and declare that he's as eligible as any natural born citizen?
In future history books, when they look back on the insanity that allowed America to devour itself in plain sight, many, many people are not going to have very nice portrayals as they intentionally turned their heads and hoped that things would just somehow stop on their own - because they didn't want to be laughed at by, G-d knows who.

There's some GOP types who need to be replaced, too. Rather than just repeal Obamacare lock, stock and barrel, they want to keep the bits about 26 year olds staying on their parents' coverage and the no refusal for pre-existing conditions bit, apparent;y because some people are dumb enough to think they're OK on their own.
I don't think the pre-existing conditions rule would stand up to a serious court challenge. How can a business be legally required to enter a contract that is guaranteed to be a losing proposition? Suicide is illegal and corporations are legally persons for some purposes, so surely it is illegal to require corporate suicide.

Get serious. The birther thing has been a net negative with the moderates. It makes those pursuing it look like loonies tailor made for filling some time on the Daily Show.
Remember who started it. It wasn't conservatives. It was Hillary's campaign staff who tried to make an issue of it. If they had any serious evidence they'd have played that card while she was still vying for the nomination. That a certain type of person has stuck with it has only been fodder for the point and laugh crowd in the media. Not a plus for our side.
I know about the Constitution, thank you. But it is far past that point. Even if there were genuine evidence pressing the case now would just get very ugly. Recall how embittered some still are about the 2000 election. Through in racial animosity and a belief that 2012 was 'stolen on a technicality' and we could see LA after the King verdict times 100.
Recall that McCain's staff felt they had serious evidence of electoral fraud and were told by the boss to let it go for fear of the backlash. I didn't like that decision but I understand it.
This material should be used but trying to make it into an unprecedented legal morass is not the way to go.

Oddly enough, sleeves/cover conditions are the most important in regards to adding value. If the corners are straight, the graphics bright and clean and the spines readable and unworn, they are worth something.

And I believe there are provisions under contract law that even if the initial contract was somehow defective (and hence void), as long as both parties accepted it as valid at the time it's still enforceable.
So I suspect that the Supreme Court would rule that even though Obama was ineligible for the office since his election was upheld by the electoral college and accepted by the other branches of government, he was acting will the full powers of the office. At least until he gets impeached.
If you're looking for a magic bullet to make Obama and all his acts go away, the Birther argument probably ain't it.

A statement from the NJ SecState that she took the parties' word for eligibilty. Aside from that, the fact that an ALIEN was also on the ballot is pretty good fucking evidence that the SecState didn't do shit to check out anything.
Go look up Roger Calero. He was on the ballot. He's not American. How much more do you want? That was the operation that was being run in Jersey, and anyone who wanted proof that the others had been checked and verified was well within his rights and reason.

No, it means you have to get your shit together and win some elections. Shaking your fist and railing on about old crimes isn't getting us anywhere. Getting in power and then putting some real teeth in election law is how to do it.
One of the first things I'd like to see a new GOP appointed Attorney General do is issue the DOJ version of an RFC to each state asking what they like to be able to do to suppress voting fraud. Put an end to the nonsensical claims that a photo ID in the 21st Century is an oppressive requirement for anyone living in a nation where people who consider themselves poor have cable TV and broadband internet in their homes.
Eventually it'll be a serious biometric ID and there will be much whining but it's a form of ID you can always produce.
The leftists know they'll always lose a serious debate so they avoid it whenever possible and also cheat at any opportunity. Assume this is their default mode and act accordingly to tighten up the system.
But first you have to win some elections, even with them cheating. It always hits to have a really big margin on your side to make them lose even if whole cemetaries in your town vote Democrat.

Well Obama has produced a Hawaiian birth certificate that was verified by the state Dept of Health and the State Registrar.
Now maybe this was a fake and they're both lying for political reasons ...which is possible. But every court in the country is going to accept this as proof of being born in Hawaii. And if you're going to contest it, you better have more than arm-waving conspiracy theories - you need direct evidence that he was born elsewhere and/or proof that the officials were lying.
Quibbling over inconsistencies and details that don't fit isn't good enough in this case. So legally I think this tack is nearly impossible to achieve.
However that doesn't mean that a whispering campaign can't be conducted to cast doubt on his legitimacy and paint Obama as serial liar.

Of course it doesn't PROVE anything, but it is a rational basis for a court to examine and determine if the state for which the suit was brought was correct (as the ballots are state issues). BTW, It was 6 states that Roger Calero was on the ballot for.

Just last week I had to bring it to a BDS sufferer's attention that the recounts, conducted by parties hostile to Bush found the numbers in Bush's favor just the same.

And some crimes you just have to let go. The guy who murdered Jamil Shaw and is now waiting to find out if he's doing life or getting the death penalty, is very likely guilty of at least one other murder. Possibly many. They just don't have enough to mount a prosecution on.
The supporters of Reuben 'Hurricane' Carter like to believe he was vindicated but that isn't what happened at all. He was going to be paroled in two years and the State of New Jersey (IIRC) declined to spend several hundred thousand dollars to continue holding him. So they didn't fight the appeal. He had spent enough time inside that he was well into middle-age and far less of a threat to anyone. (Remember: if Bob Dylan writes a song proclaiming a person's innocence, they're almost certainly guilty.)
They'll probably never execute Mumia abu Jamal but he isn't likely to ever walk free, either.
If the nation fucked up and let a legally unqualified person take the Oval Office, there isn't much to be done about it at this late date. If a prosecution started tomorrow it probably wouldn't even change the election much and he couldn't be made to drop out until a ruling is made. How many years would that take? With no penalties to speak of, what is the point? Better to focus on not having it happen again and get on with things in general.

That was the D'Onofrio case, which you said (essentially) had no merit even though the SecState admitted that she didn't verify ANYONE's eligibility, which was her job. You didn't want any enforcement in the case where it was admitted that no verification was done and a voter wanted the court to make sure that only eligible candidates made the ballot.
You can't argue against enforcement in a case where it is admitted that the law (state law) wasn't followed and then claim that you want stricter enforcement. That's a farce.

I was in LA when the riots were going on. It was an incredible outbreak of stupidity and did nothing in the long term to makes things better. There was a lot of sensitivity training and diversity hires in the upper echelons of the LAPD but nothing really changed.
Just a lot of really expensive property damage and cold comfort in the knowledge that the rioters were WRONG and they were being BAD.
I truly don't give a shit if I make Democrats mad, sad, or catatonic. You could come up with evidence Obama is the reincarnation of Jack the Ripper and it would only peel off a small number of committed Dem votes. He'd probably get some goth kids who thought it was really cool to bother voting and make it a wash. They're mostly a hopeless bunch that has to be contained and adults put in charge. It's the people in the middle who don't identify for either party that matter if the numbers are at all close. Getting tough on voter fraud could change things but I've yet to see any evidence that Romney will tread where McCain feared to go. At best, I expect Romney to be a figurehead for Congressional will. As such, getting rid of a lot of the old establishment types will determine the nature of a Romney Presidency.

You aren't getting it. No matter what evidence you can come up with, the Obama Presidency is a done deal. Only a little over seven months to go. If a Congressional debate started tomorrow over what to do it would still be going on when the election comes. And a whole lot of people who might have stayed home as they usually do will turn out again like they did in 2008 because those nasty people are being mean to Barack.
Even if proving Obama knowingly violated the Constitutional requirements for the Presidency were a crime that carried the death penalty, what would that solve? What would that fix? None of the stuff that has happened under his rule magically goes away. Hell, we could line up Obama, Pelosi, and Reid for a gallows menage a trois and we still have to have some elections in our favor to fix anything.
Again, if there were any indisputable evidence that could knock Obama off the ballot, why didn't Hillary come up with it when it would have potentially put her back in the White House again? It isn't like she didn't have the cash to mount a serious search.
There is a strong probability that Bill Clinton is a rapist. Want to make odds on the chances of that case ever moving forward? After 1996 it just didn't matter any more. The best they could manage on some more strongly evidenced crimes was a wrist slap. Rendering him impotent as a President was the real win.
Not only will all of these people walk away scott free and wealthy to boot, they'll go to their graves believing they were right all along. don't care so long as they go away sooner than later. Hopeless quests for technical disqualifications is just a waste of time. Giving swing voters a reason to question the candidate's character has far more hope of delivering some useful results.
